Hi, I saw your post about people saying that Enji stans were blaming Touya for his actions, and like. Do you mind if a rant a bit? Because being abused does not make you exempt from responsibility for your own choices. It might explain what drove Touya to them, but the blame for the crimes he chose to commit falls squarely on his shoulders.

I wouldn't consider myself an Enji Stan. I do love him, and I'm a sucker for redemption arcs so I'm enjoying what Horikoshi is doing with the character, but I don't think he'd even make my top ten. And Toga is in my top three, I understand loving unrepentant murderers. I don't want her to change for the world, but that also doesn't mean I think there shouldn't be consequences for her actions.

My point being is that, to say that we shouldn't blame Touya is to say that his actions are justified. And they aren't. That also doesn't mean we can't have sympathy for him, or that he can't be your favorite character. But fans need to realize that it's okay to love the villains, as villains. You don't need to make them "really the good guy" to justify liking them. Or even relating to them, you can even fantasize or write about joining them. As long as it's always with the acknowledgement that in real life what they're doing is not okay. Because when it comes right down to it

Ranting is always free on this blog, and your take is very nice and I appreciate it very much! Enji is not free of consequences to his actions. People are just upset he isn’t receiving the consequences that THEY want for him, but they don’t seem to realize that it isn’t THEIR story, but Horikoshi’s, and he’s going to give Enji the story HE wants. 

The same thing with Dabi. Dabi will receive his consequences in time, I’m sure. He is responsible for the actions he’s chosen to make since becoming an adult and a villain, none of those are on Enji. While he turned Toya into Dabi, he stopped being responsible after a certain point, and Dabi will have to face the consequences for his actions at some point, definitely. 

I’m just gonna leave it in Horikoshi’s hands and let the man work his magic.

For those that might see my ‘Enji loved Toya’ take and get the wrong idea, I’m not blind to the fact that Enji neglected Toya emotionally, while also instilling all of the baggage of needing to be strong and to be number one into him as a child. 

That doesn’t take away the fact that in some manner, he still loved his son. People can love their family and those close to them and still end up hurting them. That’s where Enji’s blindness to his obsession with beating out All Might and being the best comes in. His greed to be number one outshined his care as a father, and it twisted his mind. 

Seeing Toya hurting himself while trying to be strong, his care as a father told him to make his son stop, but his greed as Endeavor the hero pushed him into wanting more opportunity to be the best, to create someone who could be the best, which was where Natsuo and Shouto came in. 

Which left Toya to feel abandoned and neglected, because he was no longer needed for the purpose he felt he was created. 

But this is why Horikoshi has made the fine distinction between Endeavor the Hero and Enji the father. They’re within the same person, and yet not the same person.

We’ve had a lot of focus on Endeavor, and now it’s time to see Enji. The humanity within the monster we’ve come to know.

Y'all should really find a new fucking manga if you can't understand why Hawks would feel compelled to continue supporting Endeavor and that it doesn't make him this terrible abuse apologist y'all so eager to call him.

We just got an entire chapter pointing out the PHYSICAL and MENTAL abuse Hawks suffered as a child by the hands of his parents, and ya still gonna say he's an abuse apologist for wanting to help the one hero who gave him hope as a kid.

Sure!

I like to imagine that Shinsou used to be a loud extroverted kid, he’d be the kind of kid to have lots of friends and be very outgoing. But that changed when his quirk manifested and he grasped the idea of how to use it. He is so excited to let all his friends know that he has a cool quirk and he can become a hero!

But kids are ruthless, and as a kid himself, he can’t understand why everyone starts treating him differently, just why people are suddenly avoiding him and giving him weird looks. That’s okay though, he still has his friends and they have his back.

Or at least, that’s what he thought.

They don’t ditch him, that’s true, but they never really treat him the same, making him almost wish they did ditch him. They always joke about how ‘hey, you better not brainwash me’ and ‘you could brainwash anyone into doing whatever you want’ and ‘that’s a scary quirk, heroes are not supposed to be scary’.

Little by little, everyone gets wary of each time he tries to utter a single word, a hello, a good morning.

It starts by him limiting his speech to just greetings and no questions, thinking that it will make him more approachable, less scary. Less dangerous. But it doesn’t work, people start just walking away, even covering their ears every time he greets them.

So he stops. He stops talking, stops trying to make himself seem non-threatening, he stops seeking out his friends, or any friends. He decides to just disappear from everyone’s perception, even when as a bit older he received anonymous roses on valentine’s day, even though he attended an all-boys’ school (yes, my head is full, so many thoughts, let me be-).

He always thinks that the new kids just haven’t caught up with his quirk, and it’s better to not have any expectations rather than indulging in worthless crumbs of hope. He starts abandoning his dream of becoming a hero, if his childhood friends are so scared by his quirk, then what’s the point?

He throws himself to video games and reading and studying, sacrificing his sleep because he can’t be bothered, the bliss of being immersed by a screen or some pages is way more comforting than the dread of falling asleep and be haunted by memories or scenarios that his anxious brain generates.

His sleep is a small price to pay for numbness. And while shutting down his emotions wasn’t as easy as shutting his mouth, he managed to do it.

Because what’s the point of speaking when everyone hears, but nobody listens?

this is what I imagine Aizawa and Shinsou's relationship: Aizawa returns to his home and sees a passed out Shinsou on the couch. He smiles fondly and puts blanket over him. A few hours later (at like 4am) he wakes up to Shinsou trying to make bagel and coffee smoothies by putting bagels and coffee on the blender. He sighs and sits on the table waiting to taste the atrocity

Oh you bet your ass Aizawa comes back from a tough day at work, looking forward to collapse on the couch just to see a smaller version of him sleeping in his favorite spot. He can’t even be mad, he just smiles as he remembers his own youthful days of falling asleep on that very same couch (moving out was never an option for him, that house was filled with too many memories he was not ready to say goodbye to, no matter how many times he told himself he would).

He always worries for the young boy, Shinsou reminding him of himself way too much for his liking, Aizawa doesn’t want him to overwork himself like he did years ago, although he knows that the harsh truth is that Shinsou needs to work ten times harder, especially if he wants to get in 1A.

But alas, every time Aizawa gets the softest blanket he can find (Shisnou’s favorite) and throws it on the kid that he cares about a little too much, way more than he’d ever admit. He obviously rants to Mic about him falling asleep on the couch again, but  no matter how much he tries, it never even sounds like he’s mad or slightly annoyed, he just sounds fond and Mic lets him know every time.

When Aizawa wakes up on the same armchair he fell asleep in, it’s by the loud, obnoxious sound of the blender trying to grind something that doesn’t sound like it should be grinded. He stretches a little to find the purple bush of Shinsou’s hair in the kitchen, trying to make something. He asks him what he’s doing, not really expecting an answer because that’s just how Shinsou is, he doesn’t say much.

Piggy backing off of that, I headcanon Shinsou as selectively mute, especially when he was younger, (it got better over time and over therapy, but he still prefers being quiet even though he is comfortable enough talking most of the time, especially to Aizawa) so he’ll just smile at Aizawa, pointing at the bag of bagels and the pot of coffee, and then at the puree looking monster he has created, but he’s goddamn proud of it because hell yea, he managed to combine the perfect breakfast into one! That’s super cool, okay?

Aizawa of course asks for a cup, that’s his son student, of course he’ll try it out, he worked so hard on it, what kind of dad teacher would he be if he didn’t even give him a chance? So he does try and he almost forgets he’s supposed to pay attention to its taste, because Shinsou smiling like that is a rare occurrence and it reminds him of his old friend a little too much to look away, no matter how his heart aches a little and his stomach ties itself up in a knot.

Surprisingly enough, it didn’t taste that bad.
