Slugcat Designs Pt. 4

uhh woops I forgot to post this part! i have not done inv or watcher designs yet sorry chat :[ explanations under the cut !!

Hunter :

Underrated very much I think! Obviously I had to include some visual Rot ™️ representation on their back. I imagine it’s mainly like the feelers that grab and hold the spear in place when needed.

On the topic of the turbocancer, I determined that it works with Hunter in the beginning— or at least, they know how to control it to their advantage before it inevitably takes over, allowing it to function as another limb and increasing their lethality.

As for the patterns, I still feel like there’s too much yellow-ish color than I would have liked but I’m satisfied for now. They’ve got the Hunter achievement on their fur, naturally. Genuinely this might be my favorite design in the lineup.

Spearmaster :

Absolutely one of my favorite scugs!! This design is Tall and Lanky and honestly more doglike than I intended, but I guess that helps to emphasize the freak of science aspect. I imagine it gives the Uncanny Valley effect to other slugcats if they were to ever meet.

In terms of the thought process, I have no idea! I went based on vibes more than anything and wanted to distinguish him farther apart than the rest, though I feel like Inv might also end up taking on an uncanny appearance when I actually remember to draw them.

Obligatory SRS symbol on its chest of course because what’s a genetically engineered animal without a logo??

idk who needs to hear this but it’s okay to create for yourself. stop feeling like you need to draw a certain way or stick to a certain thing to appeal to an audience. it’s gonna do nothing but burn you out.

draw your ocs, doodle little things, experiment, have fun with what you draw. i feel like there comes a time where artists feel pressure to draw in a certain style or stick to content for the long run. stop catering to viewers, humans are ever-changing and your art will be too.

Slugcat Designs Pt. 3

Artificer and Gourmand’s turn woohoo!! Explanations under the cut!!

Artificer :

Buckle up because I have a LOT to say about them.

First and foremost, I headcanon that like many real life creatures, slugcats can physically adapt to their environments and living situations (e.g, hens growing to appear like roosters when no male is present in a group). Consequently, after Artificer lost their pups, their killing nature made them adapt and grow tougher, more muscular, and thicker fur to resist fire.

As a result of this transformation, I imagine they aren’t as built to slink around as much as they used to be able to, less capable of squeezing through tight spaces with their size and muscle mass.

I included two pearl earrings on their ear, each representing a pup they lost. Their tail has a representation of mother achievement symbol on it.

Gourmand :

Love this fella, hate their play style.

Right off the bat, I knew to include scars. This scug is a warrior and a leader and is Tough, so they’re obviously going to be a little roughed up. On their arms is the karma symbol for gluttony / greed / indulgence.

They, too, have the whiskers present on Monk and Survivors designs! Perhaps they’re descendants of the same colony, perhaps not, I haven’t decided that yet so it’s up to you.
