File 01: The Longing [DECLASSIFIED]

The Longing. It's like the dirt under your fingernails. The plaque between your teeth. It builds and builds, and every time you try to get rid of it it just builds back up again. It bubbles in the back of your throat at all times of day. It shines in the rims of your eyes, the curve of your mouth. In your attempts to hide it all, it continues to glow bright, like an ember in your chest. This longing is starting to turn your fingernails black, starting to rot each tooth one by one. Your eyes are beginning to water, and soon, much too soon, the longing will escape past the curve of your mouth. That ember will consume everything you touch, until you're nothing but ash.

Before there was Moo Deng, there was William.

This little blue hippopotamus, known affectionately as William, has been a fan favorite at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for over a century. Dating back to Egypt’s Middle Kingdom (c. 1961–1878 BCE), William was likely placed in tombs to offer protection in the afterlife.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

no fr like i fully believe that edmund must have looked very feminine and thats the only reason goneril went after him. like she HATED her husband, lowkey hated every man she had an interaction with (except oswald who was her lesser and did everything she asked) so how the fuck is she swooning for edmund??? like yeah it's cause he displayed traits that goneril found attractive like ruthlessness but also, respectfully, no.

so I went to see a production of King Lear today and in this particular production Edmund was played by a very butch woman with dark eye shadow and uhhhh.....

do i think goneril was a horrible human being and that we would probably never be friends in real life? yes. is she also my favourite character from king lear? also yes.
