Visions of Eternity
oh my…
An Inquest centred expansion YES PLEASE!!!
And this means that - hopefully - Gorrik will at least be mentioned if not reintroduced into the main story plot. Since he used to work for the inquest he is perfect for being the lead sort of scientist or investigator. (Also I just want my fav bug boy back xD) Rytlock was seen in the trailer as well so ANet are already bringing back some older characters, why not add Gorrik as well?
I saw someone post on discord a picture of ‘an inquest golem’ or what everyone is hoping for, the return of Blish!!! Admittedly the inquest are going to be the villains of this story and so it could just be one of their golems but there are many possibilities of how he could come back so let me be delusional and believe that they are bringing him back. There was no lab coat but technically he could have lost that in the mists or something else happened to it that we don’t know about. It always bugged me that the commander never made any attempt to go back for Blish despite the fact he isn’t dead, just trapped inside his own body.
Now, there was definitely a version of scruffy at the end of that trailer but more of an inquest, evil version… So, that poses the question, how did the inquest get the ideas for that golem design??? Me and @levy120 have been discussing theories about this and we think that Taimi has to be involved in some sort of way since it’s her golem’s design being used. Levy also wrote a mini ficlet earlier on Tumblr for a possible outcome of what could happen with Taimi’s golem design…
Overall, I’m very excited for this expansion and to try out the beta testing soon (like what do you mean we are getting a bard class omg yessss) so I can’t wait to see where they take this release, sure it will be amazing!!!
Feel free to leave any other theories you have (I want to collect them all like a lunatic and then see what happens in October xD)

Visions of Eternity Theories
After the preview on the next expansion dropped yesterday, I was doing some brainstorming with @boredasexualarse, and one of their theories kinda stuck with me xD
While I don't think we'll be so lucky in canon to actually get this, the brainworms have been worming regardless, and I really really want to belieeeeeve
...so here's a little hypothesis/ficlet/prompt/conspiracy theory - what have you - based on what was discussed and supposedly spotted in one of the promotional posters ~
“Commander! Commander wait! It's me!”
The old honorific just barely gets you to stop your slaughter on the Inquest base; it's the voice that stops you in your tracks, weapons held aloft as you stare down the hooded figure.
“Gorrik?”
He removes his disguise to reveal a tussled mop of blonde hair to you. By whatever is holy to you, you would not have recognized him in this Inquest garb.
You sheath your weapons silently as you try to process that information. Most of the other Inquest have fled by now anyway.
“What are you doing here?”
Your voice is calm, but the adrenaline still pumping in your veins gives it a bite. Gorrik's reason had better be good.
“They've got Taimi!”
Shit.
“They leave me no choice. I know their machinations, so figured I could maybe sabotage them from within, but the risk is too high… I don't doubt they’re extorting Taimi much the same.”
That would at least explain the copy of Scruffy you’ve run into earlier.
“Why didn't you say anything?”
“I was the one putting the issue on the map!” Gorrik counters not without pride.
“For Taimi's sake, I had to be cautious about not blowing my cover. But truth be told, I feel a lot better knowing you're on the case now.”
Well, at least one of you is relieved.
Gorrik's ears flick up, and he casts a nervous glance about.
“Maybe we can continue this conversation elsewhere? I can't allow myself to dip out as a casualty.”
“Yes,” you agree and give Gorrik the coordinates for your meeting spot.
—--
“Feels good to be out of this garb!” Gorrik remarks as he stretches out his shoulder. “I've kept my head down for too long, my neck is celebrating!” he says and cracks it to make a point.
“But let's not celebrate too much,” he corrects himself, “There's still trouble to be dealt with.”
“Do you have any leads on Taimi?”
“None,” Gorrik shakes his head, “She's off the grid. And my own access has been rather restricted.”
That doesn't come as a surprise if they're keeping Gorrik under duress. They don't trust him, rightfully so, as it turns out. But that makes you worry all the same. A part of you doesn't want to send him back into the lion's den.
“What is it they have you working on?”
Why did they want Gorrik - specifically - so bad to take this kind of security risk?
And why does he look so hesitant to answer you?
“Commander, don't be mad,” his choice of words sends a chill down your spine.
“I want to work on this project. Part of it anyhow.”
—--
You can't even blame him.
The inquest don't want his expertise, but Blish's.
And they lured Gorrik with remnant backups from his brother’s initial transfer. Data protection protocol had never truly been an option to snooping overseers. In either case, a lot of their ploy hinges on Gorrik's cooperation, whether that be in bringing back Blish by uploading him into a fresh new golem or deciphering his notes.
Your stomach sinks at the choice Gorrik would make if the success of your mission meant dooming the outcome of his.
Gorrik’s been loyal for sure. For years. And he's the one who'd been sending the anonymous tip, but to check the area…
And still…
Knowing what you know now, you can't be certain.

bit of OC commander art I completed earlier except my face shapes are less consistent than my grades xD
You can’t really see it in the photos but I have the arcane infusion on this character so that’s why the eyes are like that.

Since I'm thinking about it, I want to talk a little bit about my theory that the Uncategorized Fractal is the remnants of the lost city above Thaumanova, lost to the mists. And I want to address two things first: Dessa's knowledge of this strange place and the Raving Asura you encounter at the end of the fractal.
First, Dessa appears uncomfortable, ducking out of the comms once you enter Uncat, like this place holds some kind of relevance to her. Second, if you're working on Dreamer, you can find the letter meant for Dessa written BY the raving asura for "Dessa's Sadness." Neither of these things remove the viability of Uncat being the lost city! The reason being?
Dessa is (at minimum) twenty years out of sync.
Dessa as we know her in the fractals is from roughly twenty years at least before the events of the Personal Story. Which means she wouldn't know about the destruction of the city. She sees two people in Thaumanova that she recognizes as friends, but they "seem different" (likely because the actual reactor explosion happens the year before the personal story and people age in twenty years).
So to break it doesn: Dessa originally came from that city (though she studied in Rata Sum), and it's also where she met her partner/Arkk's father... the Raving Asura. But she left, and she's been gone for 20 years. She recognizes the city as "home" but doesn't realize how it wound up there. To her, it's an echo. And she leaves from observing immediately upon us getting there.
The Raving Asura, of course, being her partner/Arkk's father.
So why then would she express discomfort at seeing the city like this? Easy. When she left, it was a bustling city. There were people living there. This is the city she knew, but not how she remembered it. It's wrong somehow.
The Raving Asura had the misfortune, on the other hand, of still being in the city when it was destroyed. This resulted in him getting trapped in the mists as well, doomed to eternally loop the same terrible day, surrounded by his golems and the remnants of the people he knew (I think the harpies, for example, are residents that were transformed- something we know happened talking to survivors at the Refugee Encampment in Metrica).
His experiences, and his time trapped in an endlessly looping cycle, wound up driving him mad.
But he remembered Dessa.
Anyway obviously it's all conjecture but in my heart I'll always think about Uncat as being that mysterious lost city.

I’d never thought of this and am now laughing at what an Asura’s reaction would be going to Kryta for the first time xD
You ever think about how asura have the technology to fucking upload consciousnesses into robots whilst a few maps away queensdale is like. firmly your standard medieval fantasy. not a sniff of “modern” technology in sight.
I genuinely love the contrast and how anet has managed to make the asura, whose tech is very much at home in sci-fi (and sci-fi horror honestly) feel so congruent with the rest of Tyria. It stands out but it doesn’t stick out if you get what I mean.
