Hi, I'm Rhys. I have a great interest in so called 'celtic' cultures especially that of the British Iron Age and the Roman invasion. This blog will mainly consist of words from the language of the Iron Age Britons and Gauls known as Gallo-Brittonic, Brythonic, Gaulish, common Brittonic and ancient British. (I am for the Gallo-Brittonic theory not the Insular Celtic view). This language is extinct and not much is known about it. Gallo-Brittonic is the ancestor of the Brythonic or P-Celtic languages, Cymraeg, Cumbric, Kernewek and Brezhoneg. The Goidelic or Q-Celtic languages Gaeilge, Y Gaelg and Gàidhlig are related to Gallo-Brittonic. Although there is debate about how exactly the Goidelic languages are related to it as a lot of words seem to derive straight from Proto-Celtic rather than having Gallo-Brittonic influence.If you see the letters U̯ V W in a Gallo-Brittonic word always pronounce them as a W but Don't get it confused with U as it has the same sound as it does in English and Gallo-Brittonic J is pronounced as a Y!

Sorry I haven't posted recently, I have been doing a load of research learning to reconstruct the language myself! I will be making some changes in the next few days. I now prefer the term Gallo-Brittonic rather than Brythonic as I fully support the Gallo-Brittonic view and am completely against the Insular Celtic idea. Most "Gaulish" and "Brythonic" words I have found are close to exact to each other. Ceaser himself says (not exact quote) the language of Britain and that of Gaul are almost identical.
