Root Rot 🍁

She grows quietly through cracks in the gravel.

Her limbs ache, reaching for the sun.

Here she cannot thrive.

A fungus grows close to her roots, the soil overflowing with contempt for the nonconformity of nature itself.

And her roots,

their roots,

our roots,

his roots,

my roots begin to rot.

Until he is torn from the soil, and through grit he is reborn.

But the Fungus blames him—

"He must be twisted,

born fron evil."

Yet he still follows his own nature,

pruning sickly branches from his trunk.

Admiring the scarring on his bark,

he soothes his festering roots

and returns to the dirt.

A once delicate sapling,

swaying peacefully in the wind, with pride.

My mom in law passed away last November, and it’s been pretty hard. She was a kindhearted soul and I miss her so terribly. I’ve been planting trees and flowers with my partners to make our home feel bearable. Pictured is a Sycamore Maple tree we spread her ashes in, and a Tulip Poplar Tree from my work!! I hope to post more updates about myself soon.
