And I say general because they don't have a name to what they are, nor do they care enough

They don't fall in love perse, but they have times where they crave the others presence and other times where the feelings go dormant

To be honest, either Japan or Canada could win on being the saltiest-closeted-passive-aggressive nations in Hetalia.

so I think they each have their own ways that they're so salty.

Matthew is salty with his looks. He'll roll his eyes. He'll scowl. He'll immediately make a disgusted face in response to something. Absolutely no filter on his expressions. And no one sees it coming.

Kiku is salty with his words. He prefers to be collected most of the time, so his saltiness comes out in quick verbal jabs. Sometimes if you're not listening you'll miss them. Or sometimes if you're (Alfred) not smart enough, you'll miss them.

"Are you afraid?" He questioned as he over you, one of his heavy and thick arms resting on the wall behind you. Instinctively, you swallowed hard and peered up at him with wide eyes, "No. 'm not."

The way your heart beat against your chest would say otherwise, but you were familiar enough with Ivan to know that you had no real reason to be afraid. Your answer seemed to please him because the tough demeanor he was playing at faded into a sweet smile. Before you could blink, his arms were around you, plucking you from the floor like you were a couple of grapes. The action made you squeak and though you knew he would never drop you, your arms instinctively held onto his broad shoulders.

Even through his soft jacket you could feel his muscles, built and thick from all the years of hard labor he endured. From the outside he looked like a tall mountainous cloud, but you knew underneath it was all solid foundation, that once his clothes were shed he was sturdy and thick. The reminder underneath your hands made your stomach flutter. In contrast, you looked so small in his arms he couldn't help but hold your closer.

His warm breath fanned against the skin of your neck, sending a shiver down your spine. "Ivan..." a quiet pleading of his name told him everything he needed to know, yet he smirked sweetly. "What is it, my sunshine? Tell me what you want. Use your words."

Just to add on to that Quebec ask since I’m Canadian. Quebec has had a kinda long history of wanting to become its own thing from Canada (like the referendum in 1995) so I’m wondering if that could possibly be an interesting thing for Quebec

Or imagine cooking with him! I just love the idea of Francis meeting a new country and falling in love.

He does everything he can to get to know about their culture and them as an individual.

Even if they are shy or feel like Francis would find them boring all of that disappears when they hear him talking so passionate about their desire to meet them.

Oh gods you already KNOW Francis is a hopeless romantic. He's already imagined your wedding in ten different versions and what your kids would look like!!!!

He's a firm believer that getting to know a person is such an intimate thing and that goes for meeting countries as well. Also Francis just loves romance??? And finding out what makes you blush/shy makes HIM blush.

Romulus has a shit sleep schedule so chances are he's awake in the den reading or watching some mindless show he's already seen when you shuffle in, rubbing at your sleepy eyes. You sniffle, causing him to look over and stiffen as he sits up, "What happened, my little star?"

Another sniffle and a pout of your lip had his chest tightening before you answered "Had a nightmare..."

If he could fight dreams your nightmare would have been cowering in fear, "Come here, love."

His arms are outstretched and his face sympathetic, though he offers a soft smile as you shuffle quickly towards him. One your arms wrap around his neck he's holding you tight on his lap, rubbing one large hand up and down your back slowly. Burying your face in his neck, you sob a bit, remnants of the terrible dream and it tears at Romulus that he can't completely prevent such occurrences. Once your sobbing has calmed down he'll coax your face from his neck and wipe your tears away, once again giving you that gentle smile.

"You are far too pretty to cry, but if you need to let it out anymore go ahead, darling."

Though it's quiet, his voice conveys everything, he hates seeing you cry at the same time understanding sometimes crying is the best medicine. His hands will find yours, thumbs rubbing along the back of your hands before kissing each one. After he cleans your face with a tissue he'll carry you back to your shared room. Since the bed is cold now he'll lay down with you on his chest so you can keep warm. Pulling the covers over you both, Romulus tucks you in, giving a kiss to the top of your head, rambling in a quiet whisper about all the ways he's going to take care of you once you wake up again.

It might be a bit ironic, but on nights you have a nightmare, Romulus sleeps best. Perhaps because he feels useful in aiding you, or perhaps because the feeling of you on top of him is soothing. Regardless, he sleeps with you until morning, keeping true to his promise of pampering you the following day.
