@momschap of Cakes with Character had me so inspired with all her adorable Kawaii creations that when I decided to make Christmas light sprinkles they HAD to have kawaii faces! I was so happy with how these guys turned out! The Cakes by Kristi Bright Lights Sprinkle Mix is literally the most perfect mix for a little tree cake like the last pic! I used circle cutters to cut out my cake layers (from 4” wide to 1”) and used @satin.ice buttercream to fill and frost! This cake has always been one of my favorite cakes I have ever made. I made it because I have always loved Star Wars, because I wanted to try something new, and I made it for no one but me. I made it before I figured out how to do nice crisp fondant edges and before I had really any experience recording videos. One of my favorite things to do is work on dummy cakes for photoshoots, and this one was no exception! When @ecbg_studio told me about this @modluxweddingschi photoshoot, she told me she ordered some edible images of a lemon pattern because the theme was citrus, and then we threw some ideas around. Later I sent her a basic sketch (swipe to see!) and she gave me the go ahead! I was really excited to make some gumpaste lemons and lemon blossoms for the first time, and I can't wait to make more in the future! 》Cake covered in @satin.ice fondant with @renshawamericas gumpaste arrangement dusted with @thesugarart dusts. This past month has been a total whirlwind, but for some reason I feel like today is the start of getting back to some kind of normalcy. So here's a big shoe I made for @ecbg_studio last week. Surprisingly, I don't think I have ever made a big shoe like this- only little baby fondant ones. This guy was about 8 inches long and made from sculpted rice cereal treats and covered with @satin.ice fondant. For my last contribution this year to our #PetrifyingPlantsSugarCollab I of course made such a weird flower that I had a really hard time getting a decent picture of it. Basically, swipe to see the video because it may be a bit better than the pics 🤷‍♀️ For this week I wanted to do an anemone inspired flower that was almost done devouring someone. One of the best things about collaborations is that you get to try to make things that people wouldn't usually order, and that usually pushes you out of your comfort zone. This one certainly did that for me. Arm, jaws, and teeth are made with @satin.ice #chocopan. Petals and leaves are made with @renshawamericas gumpaste and colored with @thesugarart dusts. Teeth and gums are shined up with @poppypaints red and super shine! Working on cool things for @ecbg_studio 🍋 • People often underestimate how long it takes to create gumpaste floral arrangements. This lemon ring was the first time I ever made lemons or lemon blossoms, and the first time I got to incorporate a ring into a cake design! I had to look at tons of pictures, as well as my own lemon tree, and tried a few different things before figuring these out. All together, it took me about 8 hours to create these for a cake. Yea, it took a *bit* longer because I had to figure out to make them look as realistic as possible with the supplies I had, but it still would have taken at least 6-7 hours to make even if I had known how to do them. Why? There is SO much you have to do to make these happen: Prepping, cutting, and taping wires. Making Branches. Creating buds and lemons. Cutting, veining, and softening petals. Adding stamens and applying "pollen". Dusting everything. Spray glazing. Taping everything to the ring. Oh yeah, and all while not breaking anything (crucial). Basically, this is why gumpaste stuff is expensive. BUT you can basically keep them forever with the right storage.
