Cases of Fandom Annoyance and Awfulness: My Thoughts
-Just because a superhero movie has humor in it doesn’t make it something for little kids.
-The Last Jedi will never be stricken from Star Wars canon.
-There is no Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, and there is no plans for one.  If there will ever be a new cut, it very likely won’t be Snyder’s.
-Solo’s underwhelming box office has more to do with bad release timing, late-in-the-game hype, and not very well done marketing in general, than some massive fallout to The Last Jedi.
-Most film critics are not paid shills for a studio.
-User Ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb and Metacritic are never a good indicator of a film’s quality.  They are rating systems that can easily be abused.
-In fact, Rotten Tomatoes itself shouldn’t be taken too seriously as it’s just an aggregate of positive/negative reviews removed of context in terms of how heavily they weigh in on that scale, another reason not really indicative of what the quality of a film is.  The Average Rating, as well as Metacritic score are better indicators of critical response.
-Having a non-white, non-male, non-straight lead in something is not a bad thing, SJWs are not ruining your entertainment.
-There is no such thing as “Forced Diversity.”
-Harassing creators and actors for things they’ve worked on is NEVER okay.
-Harassing people for fan art they’ve drawn is NEVER okay.
This isn’t all that is on my mind, but I feel like with some dumb things I’ve seen and the growing toxicity in fandoms, I wanted to get things off my chest.  And I haven’t quite covered all the stuff about the video game industry.

Some of my board panels from ‘Single Pale Rose.’
I rarely get episodes with Rose and, needless to say, Pink, who is legit new to episodes, made drawing for this board a bit of an adventure for me.
Real talk- I didn’t understand what Pink’s shoes were yet so they’re drawn more like feather poofs here. I am very into the final version of them.

So somebody, so upset that The Last Jedi tried a direction that by and large had a polarizing response, started a petition to strike the film from Star Wars canon and some people have actually signed it.
*sigh*
To those specific set of fanboys...
Tumblr media
I’m not saying everyone should just love the film without question, but for the love of Lucas don’t think that this film should be completely disregarded because you were upset how Rian Johnson chose to continue to the story.  It’s not a universal thing where it’s like everyone hates and rejects the film, no matter what easily spammed user review scores can tell you.
Personally I actually enjoyed it and found it very interesting how it deconstructs a lot of tropes Star Wars is associated with.  It was certainly a bit long, I felt like maybe there could have been some little trims with the whole casino segment, but I don’t see it as something that betrays Star Wars or betrays a lot of the set up that was given in The Force Awakens.  But that’s how I feel.
And there are still quite a number who enjoyed the film as well.  Are you going to say that they are wrong and that they should be ashamed for enjoying something you don’t?  You think they don’t deserve to call themselves Star Wars fans?  Many people would love to see how the story goes from here off of the way things end with The Last Jedi, and I really don’t think that should be taken away from them because of a very vocal section of the fanbase felt the film was a betrayal.  Or do you think all of them are just paid to like it by Disney?
*sigh*
These types of fans, each piece of media has.

Okay, I do understand some of the cringe-worthy material of Justice League can be attributed to Joss Whedon.
But if you think Zack Snyder is incapable of doing films that objectify women or give female characters problematic plots, I think you might be a little biased.
If I can list a few non-Sucker Punch examples: Queen Gorgo’s subplot in 300 that doesn’t contribute a whole lot to the overall story and at one point involves rape for instance, one that wasn’t even in the comic.  Oh and the one shot in Batman v Superman where Wonder Woman splayed out and shot at an angle where people could see up her skirt?  Whedon sure as hell didn’t touch that one.
And I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but I’m just awfully sick of the narrative pushed that everything wrong with Justice League can just be solely put on Whedon.  I’ve seen Zack Snyder’s films enough to know he has his own problems as a filmmaker in depicting women.

Lapis: been through a lot of trauma, got poofed in the middle of a horrible war, trapped in a mirror for thousands of years, and would very much not like to experience any of that again.

Went through Five Volumes of “TMNT” IDW Collection, Have Some Thoughts
Tumblr media
Since I have fallen way behind on the IDW TMNT comics I thought I’d catch up with the hardcover IDW Collection that has not just the main comics but the one-shots and mini-series’ included as well.
SPOILERS up to Issue #44 after the cut.
-Artwise I think the series has had some stellar work though at times seem to make the Turtles give off goofy faces, and as much as it was nice to see Kevin Eastman come back for artist duty the Annuals and one issue, it kind of seemed like an odd clash with the storytelling with the new characters and I feel like the thick lines don't work as well with color.
- You know how sometimes you are so used to a voice for a certain character you read the comic in their voice.  I ended up hearing the 87 voices for Donatello, Leonardo (Though at times 2003 does creep in), April O'Neil, Krang (Even if it's a less silly version), Bebop and Rocksteady, 2003 voices for Raphael and Casey Jones, 2012 voices for Splinter, Karai and Shredder, Michelangelo kind of switches between 87 and 2003. -I kind of like how they seem to be serving up a solid concoction of a lot of the Turtles canon blended together for some entertaining storytelling including much darker interpretation of stories and characters from the 1987 cartoon, though I still like to read General Krang as Pat Fraley's voice. I don't even mind too much the additions like the aspect of reincarnation, nice fresh spin on existing lore, as well as interesting new characters like Old Hob and probably my favorite new addition Alopex. -Though having said that they do stuff a lot into this new series, and in turn it kind of makes things drag out a bit even considering the IDW Collections also collect the one-shots and mini-series in chronological order with the main issues, and at times it feels like it takes a bit too much focus off of the Turtles. On the other hand, the Collection at least makes things feel a bit more complete so don't have to buy completely different trades or individual issues to keep up on all the details of the comic. -I had a lot of fun with the TMNT/Ghostbusters cross-over if anything to see both sets of characters interact and see how both of them are used without one overshadowing the other. Just before you ask, I kind of read the Ghostbusters a combination of both the film and The Real Ghostbusters.
-I wish I really wasn't spoiled the fact Donatello was going to get a fatal beatdown, but it was still brutal if anything, coming to mind how Jason Todd was killed.
Well that's my immediate thoughts anyway and I know I am still a bit behind but I am contemplating whether to wait for Volume 6 in February to continue.

To anyone calling Connie a certain b-word in light of “Dewey Wins” clip
Tumblr media
Here’s the clip in question
The reaction of some people to Connie’s attitude is being selfish, unreasonable and calling her a bitch.
Just what even the hell?  Have they truly paid attention to how the Steven and Connie have developed up to this point together and how would you feel if your best friend just decided to leave to a hostile planet and you might never see them again?  Think it’s selfish to be suddenly worried for someone and want to be there with them and for them?  And that his upbeat attitude is only exasperating things, he’s not giving the best support to her feelings.
I just can’t even comprehend how people are reacting this way, even with their explanations it rings entirely false to me.

Thoughts on the new season of MST3K
So a few days ago I finally finished the new season of MST3K and have formulated a few thoughts on it: -The makers made a really good selection of films ripe for riffing, while movies not quite on a terrible level as Manos: The Hands of Fate or Monster A-Go-Go, still plenty of cheese to go around particular highlights being Cry Wilderness, Starcrash, The Loves of Hercules, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom 1 and 2, and Carnival Magic. Avalanche and The Beast of Hollow Mountain though I feel the pacing kind of kills the momentum of both films, even when they are edited down versions. -It took me a while to warm up to Jonah and the Bots, and while I feel like there needed to be a few kinks to work out I thought did very well. I really enjoyed Kinga Forrester, Felicia Day looked like she was having a blast playing the villainous part. -I don't mind the riffing style, but at times they do run the riffs together which feels like it doesn't give a lot of breathing room to take the jokes in. The moments where the bots show their articulation while a bit showy I think do lead to some pretty neat sight gags. -Host segments are too short, while there are a few grand highlights like the Kaiju Rap and a few of the guest spots, they don't feel really all too polished and I get the feeling the makers of the show just wanted to get them out of the way to leave more room for film riffing. -The inclusion of bumpers are kind of confusing. -Speaking of guest spots, my favorites were probably Neil Patrick Harris and Mark Hamill. Pearl, Observer and Bobo's appearances were nice, but I kind of wished more of some the old cast, for instance Joel had made an appearance as Joel Robinson as opposed to just other characters but I guess that was his decision.

I guess I’ll have to face That in this awful place I shouldn’t show a trace of doubt
But pulled against the grain I feel a little pain That I would rather do without

How easy it is to predict fanboy  outrage
When a piece of media has central characters that aren’t
-White
-Male
and/or
-Straight
It will be decried as SJW propaganda and ruins the medium forever!
See: The last two Star Wars movies, Ghostbusters (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming, Star Trek: Discovery, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, the 13th Doctor of Doctor Who, a few video games like Horizon: Zero Dawn... just to think of recent examples.

Re: “Wonder Woman” Acclaim
Look at that Marvel Bias!
Tumblr media
Critics are being paid to give negative reviews and scores for DC movies!
Tumblr media
Y’know, it’s actually nice to be excited, to see Diana get her big chance on the big screen and directed by Patty Jenkins, a woman no less.  This is good especially considering what has come before, I felt left a lot to be desired.
I am not going to lie, even for the fanboys who would be reading this, but I will keep things short: the previous three entries in the DC Extended Universe left me empty inside and the fanboy responses to criticism of the films only make my feelings worse.  Extreme fanboyism in general is what I really despise of any property, trust me it makes it hard to be a Steven Universe fan at times when I see other fans act in a reprehensible manner, like threatening someone over fanart.
Admittedly too I wasn’t actually the biggest fan of Diana’s inclusion in Batman v Superman, just felt more of a big teaser to the rest of the DCEU and Gadot didn’t leave that much of an impression on me.  Her theme did kick ass though.
Then of course, there is the big misfires of trying to get a female superhero on screen, movies that just felt like half-hearted attempts or done by people who just didn’t seem to care what they were putting on screen.  Helen Slater wasn’t too bad as the Maid of Might but she couldn’t save the poorly-plotted Supergirl, I haven’t heard anything really memorable for Elektra and I don’t even comprehend what the hell they were thinking with the Halle Berry Catwoman movie.
But if anything I do hope this does open a bit more possibilities, eliminating the stigma of female-led superhero movies being doomed to fail.  And I really would like to even see Captain Marvel succeed and be good as well.  For that matter that Silver Sable and Black Cat movie I hope something good comes out of it too (Even if it feels like Sony is knee-capping both it and Venom by not tying them to the MCU).
I’ll definitely have more thoughts when I actually see Wonder Woman, but I got to say, I am glad to have some optimism for a DC movie.
