One of my Antique pieces needs a bit of restoration, she came from North Hampton MA. Made from cast plaster, some time around 1890- 1920. Unfortunately she suffered a catastrophe quite a few years back, dropped on the pavement...ouch! A line up of pieces getting ready to finish. For those looking to do metal finishes here's some clues....I mix up an antiquing glaze for going over the base of bronze paint, to build up a nice patina. dry brush iron metallics with some matte varnish mixed in for the Blackened Iron finish, building up several layers. The icing on the cake is to dry brush clear satin varnish on highlights only. (at Niantic, Connecticut)

Faces on places...I think my interest in sculpting these kinds of things, began with seeing ancient Celtic carvings in book's when I was in middle school. This eventually lead to me spending vast amounts of time in quite a few library's, exploring the world's past through books and discovering the art of Egyptians, Japanese, and Europe, and others! At some point I started noticing victorian designs, like Art Nouveau, Gothic Revival. I especially love carved furniture and sculpted details on buildings. Ok, here is the Gothic door back plate in a Vintage Bronze finish. I took these photos yesterday, made a listing for my Etsy shop, CastShadows. Notice they look like completely different finishes, but these are the very same object! photos were taken in different parts of the house, with different with backgrounds. It amazing how a piece can look when in place or In person....it's between the two, but closer to the image with the dark green backing.
