However it originated, though, the usage of “because-noun” (and of “because-adjective” and “because-gerund”) is one of those distinctly of-the-Internet, by-the-Internet movements of language. It conveys focus (linguist Gretchen McCulloch: “It means something like ‘I’m so busy being totally absorbed by X that I don’t need to explain further, and you should know about this because it’s a completely valid incredibly important thing to be doing’”). It conveys brevity (Carey: “It has a snappy, jocular feel, with a syntactic jolt that allows long explanations to be forgone” “It has a snappy, jocular feel, with a syntactic jolt that allows long explanations to be forgone”).
But it also conveys a certain universality. When I say, for example, “The talks broke down because politics,” I’m not just describing a circumstance. I’m also describing a category. I’m making grand and yet ironized claims, announcing a situation and commenting on that situation at the same time. I’m offering an explanation and rolling my eyes — and I’m able to do it with one little word. Because variety. Because Internet. Because language.

i understand from an artistic perspective why the four nations are color coded but imagine if that was just like...a thing in real life. like if you went to canada and everyone was wearing purple and you just had to live with that.

I know it’s 2020 but Merlin AU where Uther notices a bunch of problems that could only be solved by magic ~spontaneously~ getting solved around Arthur, and concludes that this must be a side effect of Arthur only existing due to magical intervention. An intense bigotry-versus-parental-love internal conflict commences, followed by some that’s-pretty-hypocritcal-of-you-isn’t-it-dad screaming external conflict, generally upending everything. Merlin is standing in the corner the entire time holding a serving jug of mead and sweating.

Hi, thanks for your time answering questions, I appreciate the work you do, and I have a question 🙂
Do you know if it's ok for one person to have multiple accounts on ao3? I don't mean different pseuds under one main account, I mean completely separate accounts linked to different emails that are in no way connected to each other?
I've been trying for a while to find an answer to this question directly from ao3 but all my research takes me to places like reddit instead of an actual official answer from the mods on ao3 and I couldn't find anything on the subject in the ao3 terms of service. If you can help thanks, if not thanks anyway and have a good day 😀
Yes, it is totally okay for someone to have more than one AO3 account, and it is even encouraged in situations where a pseud is not sufficient.
From the FAQ about Pseuds (edited down to the main points):
Can I make an anonymous pseud?
Pseuds currently can't be made anonymous. To help differentiate between identical pseuds, Archive of Our Own (AO3) has to connect them to a username. However, there are several ways you can post a work without associating it with your Archive account:
You can add your work to an unofficial anonymous collection, like Fanfic Anonymous.
You can set up a second Archive account using a different email address. This option is the most secure.
The only time when it's not okay to create an additional AO3 account is when you've been suspended or banned from the Archive. If you've been refused permission to post then that means you've been refused permission to post, no matter what email address you're using to log in.

Yami: I don't trust birds, fuckin hollow bones, suspicious, what are you hiding in there.
Nero: Love.
Yami: Fuck, shit, you're right, fuck.

What they don't tell you about writing is that as you write, you discover scenes and entire plots that you hadn't accounted for that need to be written. So you can spend two hours writing and editing only to realise you're further away from the finish line than you thought you were when you started
#writing problems#yes but consider the opposite#when I start drafting and solve a problem I had in my outline#just by doing the thing#and taking the plunge#that's a funny expression#“plunge”
