i love it when characters are unfair, actually. i love it when they’re uncouth and cranky and hypocritical, i love it when they have cognitive dissonances, i love it when they make good and bad choices for the wrong reasons. i love when they’re short to anger and hard to understand. i love it when they’ve destroyed themselves for nothing but can’t even see either part of it yet. i love it when they’re messy and selfish and bad at communicating. i love it when they get convinced of their own ego and stuck in a feedback loop regarding their own warped paranoia. i love it when characters actively make their lives unknowingly harder for themselves. i love it when characters don’t know they’re in a story. i love it when characters are like real people

characters have to be a little bit awful in ways that you cant defend. its good for the ecosystem. your honor he did do that. He did in fact do that

i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever

Ayyy, who remembers Sebastian from DA2? Yellow Dafodil’s are actually a metaphor for Chivalry. The kiss however also comes with thorns~

Another bittersweet conclusion! This is the last cover for Knight Errant’s five issue series. All five issues are out now so check it out if you haven’t already. Thanks as always to AD Dave Marshall!

I had the wild opportunity to work on a MTG card a few years ago and it came out a few months ago. My take on the classic card Relentless Rats. It's borderless and holographic. Card number 0754. Rarity R

The card depicts wall to wall rats devouring a person whole. And I didn't even have to train 5000 live rats. The first image is my original art with placeholder text, but in the final print they added a flavor text quote, "if you starve them, they grow voracious." Isn't that sweet~

THE ADVOCATE

Cover art I did for 'The Advocate' written by Daniel M. Ford, and published by Tor Books. This is the third book in the swords and sorcery series following Aelis De Lenti. Aelis returns home to Lascenise to clear the name of her mentor, accused of murder, and unravel a conspiracy of wizards and assassins. With no one she can trust Aelis enlists the help of old friend Miralla and old enemy Amadin. I didn't get to this one either but this time around I got very detailed descriptions to work off of. They are all at a dinner party where a fight breaks out, hence the formal wear. Aelis' motif is skulls and daggers, and Miralla's stars and eyes. Miralla is a diviner which is why her eyes are glowing white as she guides the other two. Amadin's main stand out comments were 'arrogant enough to fight with a glass of wine in his hand' and 'very punchable face' lol Other than that everyone's looks are pretty straight forward, verbatim as described. There was always a certain shift that happened in Batman whenever he talked to kids that were hurt or scared. He would speak more softly, maybe even kneel down in front of them to personally assure them that they were safe now.

I really like this russian edition of classic books. Letting famous artists do the covers in YA style was such a simple but clever decision. According to the recent study the number of teenage readers increased, possibly thanks to these covers. I own traditional classics with blank covers but if I ever see one of these in the wild, it’ll probably make me go feral.
