hypotheses about le retour [SPOILERS]

a shivers and a perception check one after another in the final scene of the game show us a newspaper in the wind, informing about more workplaces launching strikes in solidarity with the Union

from the Moralist route and particularly from the talk with the Archer radio woman we may find out that an election for a "transitional advisory council" is coming up in Revachol as the next "stage" in the Coalition's plan for bringing "real democracy" to the city. the candidates have been selected by the Moralintern, and it looks like the window for any type of insurgency against the current status quo is visibly coming to a close

sooo:

- if the Pryce's/RCM's revolt is aimed at the Moralintern, their first and most immediate goal would probably be tied to that election: maybe encouraging a boycott so it's not legally binding due to low turnout, maybe sabotaging or going for armed action to stop it from happening, maybe some other way; add to that the fact that Revachol may be headed for a general strike

- for any of these you need funding, and you need organized, trained people - all of these in debatable degrees are in the posession of the Union. in this light, the scuffle of 57 vs 41 over who gets Martinaise may well have been, at least in its last phase, way beyond just a "pissing contest". i don't think it's that improbable that not all of the RCM is on the same page regarding Le Retour and that scramble for Martinaise was a way of settling that, especially since despite appearances Martinaise is in a lot of ways crucial for a potential revolt - the Union has enough money to hold a strike (not without losses, true) for months, so they will be a valuable ally + at least some weapons (+ whatever the parts of RCM that are in on the Return have amassed, if anything) + a twist-information about a hole in the world to be found in the neighbourhood [NOTE: the Claires are not showing all their cards here at all, the Hardies are not Evrart's main "boys" and he mentions his "real boys" that have the entire Martinaise tapped]. Whoever gets Martinaise, gets the Union, and with the support the Union seems to have received in other parts of the city, they may well have a standing chance of getting Revachol too. And with how secretive Pryce and Gottlieb are with their list of all the captain's men, I'd guess Pryce didn't correct the officers about the true nature of the pissing contest on purpose

- which gives even more extra spice to Harry poaching Kim from the 57th. "look, not only we get Martinaise and the Union and we're going through with the revolt, but we're taking one of your best officers with us too." still, this type of intra-RCM antagonism wouldn't fare well for their role in Le Retour and could signify an exploitable weakness.

harry being the came back wrong trope if you play him in a way where hes trying to be a better person is so interesting to me. idk theres something in playing him as a man desperately attempting to be helpful and kind and generally half decent and how uncanny that would be to anyone who knew him. theres something there
