Now that Rainbow Cookies has reached chapter 4, here the profiles of two other pretty important characters that had been introduced and will play a big part in Leo’s adventure.

AA Superhero AU: The First Turnabout

So, I want to start with the retelling, and even if there are a lot of interesting things to talk about for this AU, I decided to start from the beginnging of the games, and Phoenix Wright’s first trial.

...because it’s probably the event that changes the less from canon, and I’m still new to this whole... you know... retelling thing.

I never invented an AU this complicated ever.

So suggestions on how to do it better are greatly appreciated.

Anyway... let’s start!

Quick summary

It’s pretty much similar to canon, to be honest. No superheroes are involved, except Mia Fey and Phoenix Wright, who don’t use their powers during the trial. One thing that differs is Phoenix’s relationship with Larry, who’s not (one of) the reason he became an attorney, but just an old friend, and Maya’s presence on the scene, as she and Phoenix are already close friends. 

The rest is basically the same: Larry gets accused of murder, Phoenix defends him, and proves that the witness, Frank Sahwit, is actually the culprit of the crime. It all ends with Larry gifting the Thinker to Mia.

Pre-crime

Larry and Cindy’s relationship is just like canon. She broke up with him, who didn’t realize, and tried to reach out to her. Larry gets accused of her murder, and asks Phoenix for help. 

Phoenix and Larry know each other ever since they were very little, and Phoenx owes Larry, since he helped him when Phoenix’s ex-girlfriend accused Phoenix of murder (one day I’ll get to Turnabout memories). That’s why Phoenix helps Larry, taking his case. Mia offers her support.

The crime

Like canon, no major differences.

The Investigation

They do an investigation, obviously, where Phoenix and Mia examine the scene of the crime, and quickly figure out this is a pretty common burglary gone wrong, and there are not enough evidence to accuse Larry of murder. Too bad Mia can’t figure out who the true culprit is by touching the victim, because Cindy didn’t see her aggressor.

Even if this is a murder trial, it looks pretty easy.

But the defendant is Larry, and when something smells, it’s usually the Buts, in every universe! Phoenix interrogates him, and Larry is not really useful, too heartbroken to give information, and lamenting his fate. 

The Trial

Since this is Phoenix’s big debut, Maya is there to cheer for him from the audience, and Mia is his co-counsel. Phoenix is pretty confident about the case, and tries to point out that there are no evidence that put Larry on the scene of the crime, especially as the murderer.

One thing he didn’t know, is that there is a witness who saw the whole murder happening. The prosecution didn’t inform him.

Things proceed as in canon with the cross-examinations, and both Phoenix and Mia realize the witness is probably the true cuplrit.

Thanks to the Thinker, they are able to prove it swiftly, just like in canon, and Larry is declared not-guilty. Mr. Sahwit gets taken away, and he will face another trial, that will probably be even faster than this one.

After-trial

After the Trial, Maya cheers for both Mia and Phoenix, and Larry offers Mia his copy of the Thinker, that Maya likes it a lot. He then thanks Phoenix for the help (but doesn’t pay him, stingy) and goes off to other troubles.

Mia, Phoenix and Maya gets dinner to celebrate Phoenix’s first victory. Phoenix is really happy about it, but hopes that in the next case he will be able to defend a superhuman, since that’s his specialization.

Maya, jokingly: You can defend me, when I’ll kill my boss for giving me insane work hours!

Phoenix, jokingly too: Oh no, please! I can’t take your case, you are undefendable! Clearly too guilty to be defended!

Mia, rolling her eyes: No offense, Phoenix, but I’d rather defend my sister, when she’ll surely get accused of murder.

Maya, offended: Et tu, Mia?!

Phoenix, laughing: I could never compete with the chief. But let’s hope that day, that will definetely come, will be in a long long time

Maya: If my boss doesn’t stop with the unpaid overtime, it will be soon

Angel Starr, aka Maya’s boss: You are aware that this is your workplace, I’m right here and I’m a former detective, are you? 

At the end of the day, they had fun, everything was right, and Phoenix started his career with a good victory.

So, that’s how I plan on retelling the cases, with a quick summary, pre-crime, the crime, investigation, trial and after-trial.

There will probably be little dialogues, and pictures where needed. This was a pretty easy retelling, since almost anything changed, but some cases will change completely. And I’ll probably divide some cases in more posts.
