Not quite the Shawshank Redemption
Life has not been much fun of late. I have discovered that there is one thing worse than being disabled and the wrong kind of sick in a country that is trying to intentionally impoverish you and that is writing and illustrating a book about said atrocities at the same time. Like any occasion in history when a government slides toward fascism, it is very tempting to wear a blindfold, stick your…

Because I'm worthless.
It seems that in terms of Britain’s new government, I have committed the worst of sins… I am ‘Economically Inactive’. Being disabled by a dodgy heart, knackered lungs and the wrong kind of autism that makes me hopeless at tech and maths and brilliant at being utterly bemused and even terrified by the world, I am neither use nor ornament in the beancounter terms of my toxic neoliberal government.…

What is worth defending?
The British government is planning to spent billions on ‘defence’ with a vast amount of the funding being directly taken from the budget earmarked for supporting the sick and disabled. The justifications for both choices are thinner than cheap toilet paper and just as unpleasant and as Starmer, Reeves and Kendall use wording that was once attached to swasticas and jackboots to take vital funding…

Picking up the pieces again.
My life has been hell for the past couple of weeks. I have barely slept, barely eaten and each time I wake up I have to drag myself back up the day as a gibbering wreck whilst I take on the latest horrors drip fed through the media by my own government… again. No one chooses to be disabled and I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy…. I’m sorry, that’s a lie actually. I would wish it on the heads…

Joyful Revolution
It’s been a difficult few weeks in the UK. When your own government launches an all out attack on its poorest and most vulnerable and starts using words that would not look out of place in 1930’s Germany, you know there is something seriously wrong. Suffice to say, I haven’t had much sleep or any peace of mind during the many waking hours I have experienced since then and my physical health is…

Save the Chris! (and others)
I am currently being bullied by my own government… As are around a million other disabled people. In a completely pointless exercise that will only serve to tip many with severe disabilities into extreme poverty and as, under the tories, many will die. Labour are planning to change how disabilities are scored so that many conditions that massively limit peoples lives no longer count… Their…

That 1930's Feeling...
My country is governed by evil people. I sort of want to leave it there but part of the reason that I am writing this is as a testament to history. My government is trying to put through a raft of insane measures that make no sense. They don’t have to take vital support from the poor, it will cost more to clean up the human carnage than it will ever save. I can see two reasons for this; the…

A Reality Check.
I try to find humour in most things but with this I am sadly coming up short. A group of right wing Labour MPs (work that out) have called for massive cuts to the British welfare that has already been described as woefully falling short financially and to have “grave and systemic failures”. The letter, headed by a chap from a wealthy family with a ridiculous double barrelled name that would not…

Extinction avoidance (mine!)
As you may know I like many of Britains sick and disabled are in danger of being made extinct by our own government. If you would rather myself and all the other wobbly people to remain alive I would appreciate if those residence in the UK would sign this petition from 38 Degrees. Thank -you in advance for my continued existence. 😘 BTW in case you a curious, that is (was) a Baiji a blind river…

Help!
This is a call out to my British readers. Vulnerable people in Britain are being attacked by our own Government. Vital money will be cut from the sick and disabled unless enough pressure is put on them to stop this dangerous There is time to act but you need to do it soon and best of all, it won’t cost you a penny. Please can you to sign the charity Scope’s open letter? Here. and if you have a…

Help! I'm Just Hanging on.
For those not big on exposition, feel free to skip to the end paragraphs marked * You can make a difference! At 6.30, last Friday night. My life went off a cliff. There was a story on the news about how disabled people like myself were going to lose between a third to a half of the money that we rely on to survive. This is not the first time that my world has collapsed from beneath me but for…

One
Today was a shameful day for the once proud British Labour party as supine MPs did the rounds of the UK’s complicit media explaining their intention of cutting a support network that was once a source of national pride. One particular no mark,‭ Shabana Mahmoud, clearly has an axe to grind with those that have the barefaced cheek to become sick or disabled in smugly pointing out that it’s the…

Difficult Decisions
I am sick to death with, Prime Minister, Kier Starmer’s use of the phrase “difficult decisions”. In the past week he has described many things thus. Cutting Britain’s overseas aid budget, pledging troops to Ukraine and now the cutting of billions of pounds of welfare support to the United Kingdom’s most vulnerable have made their way onto his hard choices list for one reason or another. My…

A tale of the heart.
This is nothing about romance. Sorry! This is a story about autism and the NHS. I haven’t been well for months now. Being forced to undergo a farce of a medical just to keep a roof over my head and being told about it two days before Christmas, just as all the support services were closing, doesn’t help if you are prone to stress issues. Add months of living in a too cold flat and a constant…

Calling all luvies
Trigger warning. I read about a tragedy today. Back in 2023 a man walked into a job centre and set himself on fire. Much of his desperately needed state help had been removed and he saw no other option than to end his own life. This struck a chord with me as I had planned to do the exact same thing had my recent application for support gone the wrong way. I had foolishly imagined that with such…

This is what you want. This is what you get.
Ever since discovering about my autism at the age of fifty, I keep getting hit by waves of regret. Sadly, much of the nearly five years since has been filled with putting out metaphorical fires and trying to deal with bereavement, eviction, health scares and an all-out assault from Britain’s punitive welfare system has left me little time to ponder over the question of ‘What could have been?’…

Just because you can...
In a week of hideousness , two things stuck out. My soulless prime minister pretending to understand the intricacies of artificial intelligence and today’s new Chinese contender in the race to armageddon that is the latest piece of machine learning tomfoolery. Hopefully I don’t need to point out that one of these events scuppers the other and the pompous oaf that is Keir Starmer’s attempt to…
