I get that the pain scale is subjective and therefore you should ideally choose a number that is in reality between 1 and 10. I know. it works better that way. whatever.

but you know what else

if someone is saying their pain is an 11 or 12 that usually means they are trying to communicate something to you, and is actually useful information regardless of if arbitrary rules were broken to communicate it
