My brother low key had the police called on him today for being autistic. He was walking around town while singing to his phone and was reported for disorderly conduct.

Nothing is better than finishing a big project. I used the Emma the Bunny pattern from Edward’s Menagerie by Kerry Lord. It’s not my best quality work but it is the most impressive and largest piece. I can’t wait to ship her to my cousin for their new baby!

We got two concrete castles made by an eccentric millionaire in the 1900s. One is a seven story museum about pre-industrial trades and labor.
Your hometown has “culture,” but does it have a 13 foot, bright orange, bug-eyed t-rex with weirdly human teeth

Classic novels with problematic characters, messages, and plots are extremely valuable since they show a mirror to the society they were written in. They make you take off your rose colored glasses about your perceptions of that time period and understand the issues at the time and how far we have come since then.
For example Pamela by Samuel Richardson, was considered a romance when it was written, now it reads as a physiological thriller involving Stockholms syndrome. So this transition in how culture can change what genre you would consider a book is an interesting concept and is horrifying when you realized people loved this book. Ben Franklin worked hard to make a book about a 15 year old being kidnapped and sexually harassed by her boss to be the first printed novel in America.
Also without context, some books might seem problematic when really they are pointing out issues at the time and are being misinterpreted due to not having proper context.
Huckleberry Fin having the n word in it was a huge conversation years ago when people were trying to remove the n-word from the book to make it more comfortable to read in classes. Many schools even banned this anti-racism book for racism because it had the n-word in it.
Another example, Clotel: the president’s daughter by William Wells Brown is about Thomas Jefferson’s daughter he had with one of his slaves. Repeatedly the book states how pale and white Clotel’s skin is. This could be read as since she was pale skin, she is the main character and deserved a better life than her darker skinned peers, which is colorism. Though the book was actually trying to state through this was that race is a cultural construct and regardless of skin color slaves were cruelly treated. Due to both the rampant rape of slaves at the time and how any child of an enslaved woman became a slave, some slaves were mixed race which blurred the lines on what race a person was. Also it is argued that at the time the book was written having a white passing character would elicit more sympathy from white readers, which could have been another reason to emphasize Clotel’s pale skin. All of this discussion is lost on a casual reader who picks up this book without context, like I did years ago.
“Authors should not be ALLOWED to write about–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative
“This book should be taken off of shelves for featuring–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative
“Schools shouldn’t teach this book in class because–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative
“Nobody actually likes or wants to read classics because they’re–” you are an anti-intellectual and an idiot
“I only read YA fantasy books because every classic novel or work of literary fiction is problematic and features–” you are an anti-intellectual and you are robbing yourself of the full richness of the human experience.

My bathroom has an interior window too, except mine leads to a storage area. There is a light in the storage area that shines into the window so it looks like daylight. It has low visibility, so you can only see blurry silhouettes behind the glass.
The old owner was obsessed with adding molding everywhere and made the bathroom western themed, so we just assumed it was another design quirk. Maybe this was a small trend back in the day?

My house was built in 1958 and only one person has lived here besides me. For some reason she got a stain glass window installed between the two restrooms. It’s pretty tho

I know phone anxiety is a thing but sitting down and writing down your key talking points makes a huge help when talking on the phone. The number he gave is the capital switchboard. They are nice people who are going to transfer you to your senator. They are going to ask your state, senate or representative, and then they are going to ask you which one. Choose the one that represents you from the list above.
If you are calling outside of 9-5 or they aren’t available you can sometimes leave a message. When leaving a message you need to give your name, phone number, address (including zip code), and optionally your email address. It may sound silly but writing this down also helps, since it helps you keep track of what information to give and if any word should be spelt out.
Also don’t feel the need to be so formal or perfect if that is giving you trouble. They are going to be nice to you no matter what since they need your vote. If they try and give you a wishy washy response or defend the bill, you can just tell them, I am against this bill and will know what you voted for, while I vote in the 2026 primaries.

Congress is back in session this week. If any of these Republican senators represent you, let them know in no uncertain terms that they must not enact Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that would make devastating cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs to finance tax cuts predominantly going to the super rich.

Here is a map of all of the protests happening, there is most likely one near you if you live in the US. I just signed up.

Donald Trump is NOT our king — and on June 14th, it's up to us to prove it. Trump is throwing himself a $45 million dollar birthday party — a big military parade like some of his authoritarian idols have done. The White House says the parade is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, which just happens to fall on the same day as Trump’s birthday. Rubbish. Trump wants a big military parade on his birthday and is using the anniversary as a pretext. How ironic that the Continental Congress originally established an Army, headed by George Washington, to fight against the very tyranny that Trump espouses. Trump is acting like a king by defying the courts, issuing arbitrary decrees, disregarding checks and balances. On June 14th people all over America will gather peacefully to protest Donald Trump’s authoritarian spectacle. You can find out more at www.nokings.org. Find a gathering near you. Get involved. Stand up for democracy. Donald Trump wants a military parade so he can feel powerful. But you know something? In America, we don’t have kings. On June 14th, let’s send a message to Donald Trump and the world. The power, here, belongs to the people.

Starkid just ended their kickstarter after raising $642,019. This is the highest funded theater kickstarter and the most Starkid ever raised for a play. In total there were 9,578 backers.
It has been less than a day and Starkid has already raised $302k despite them only having a $250k goal. As reference last year Cinderella’s Castle raised $529k, but the original The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals raised $127k in 2018.

We worked until 4 in the morning for assignments and woke up in time for our 8am classes. Since we accepted that some courses are going to be hard but it is all temporary until we graduate. We talked to professors about extending deadlines and we used school resources if we needed more help.
School is going to be tough but going through it is supposed to change and challenge you.
ChatGPT isn’t a problem solving tool that is going to help you grow, your college’s free tutors and editors are.
Reading the syllabus to see when all your major assignments, quizzes, and exams are due. Then putting them on your schedule, and planning on when the best time to start each assignment/ study takes two hours tops and can save you a lot of stress and the need for all nighters.
"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.
six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.
point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but you won't build you the the muscles.

The American people overwhelmingly oppose Trump’s plan. In fact, a recent poll found that only 14% of voters support cutting social services to fund an extension of Trump’s tax cuts. That’s why Republicans passed the bill early in the morning when no one was watching — because they know how wildly unpopular it is. This bill is NOT a done deal. It still needs to pass the Senate. It's important that we get in touch with our senators and tell them to vote NO on this bill. Keep calling. (202) 224-3121

Random thought but everything that Neil Gaiman “allegedly” did is scarier than most of the things he wrote.
He pretended to stand up for women while victimizing women and then he trafficked his child’s nanny. The more details you learn the more like a psychopath he sounds. He sexually assaulted a woman in his 4 year old son’s bed, while she was reading the son a story. Then after the allegations go public, he goes radio silent and hires a pr company to help suppress the story. Sure he wrote one letter denying any crimes but I don’t see him running his mouth on tumbler anymore.
Even in his Sandman story about an author raping a muse for book inspiration is more tame than what Gaiman did. Since Gaiman victimized multiple women both sexually, verbally, and with physical violence. Then he would try to silence at least one woman with an NDA. So even after they escaped they felt like they couldn’t get any justice or talk to others about what happened for support.

Reading volume 2 of Dark History of Penn’s Woods by Jennifer Green and found this historical medical fact about yellow fever treatment.
I know this is a serious topic but I can’t stop imagining Alexander Hamilton wine drunk / white girl wasted in bed while rambling about how he thought he was immune and shit talking people.
