i love you so much if you are diabetic, or pre-diabetic. our society treats diabetes so poorly. it's such a readily mocked condition, people often times resort to blaming the individual for having it, even going so far as to pass judgment on the diabetic's character, regardless of what type of diabetes they have.

diabetics are wonderful and deserve to love themselves regardless of whether or not they 'gave' themselves their diabetes. whether or not the person is "unhealthy" whether or not the person eats "right" or knows how to eat in ways that are safer for their body doesn't matter, they still deserve love, respect, and compassion.

diabetes is not a fucking judge of character. diabetics deserve better. diabetics deserve respect. diabetics deserve to be recognized as disabled. diabetics deserve kindness, love, care, compassion, and support. no matter what.

EVIL AUTISM POST!!!

Projecting my disabilities onto my fixated characters because I love making my favorite characters awesome YAAAAWAAHAGAA!!! I always wondered how Tord being T1D like me would be like. :-) evil guy with his funny machine thing.

I don’t usually see a lot of diabetic representation art, so I thought it would’ve been cool to try this out, being a type 1 diabetic myself! I will say it is SUPERR difficult finding diabetic rep in art, and it’d be really cool to find more. :-]

I’ve had T1D for almost a decade now, and it means my body can’t really make insulin to control my blood sugar whenever I eat food. As a result, I have to rely on an automatic, artificial insulin pump, and an automatic blood sugar checker.

SOMETIMES it’s annoying to have to change to pump every 3 days, and the blood sugar checker every 10 days, but I’ve gotten used to it HAGAH!! Sometimes I forget I have diabetes because of it LOL.

Dealing with constant alerts whenever my blood sugar goes wrong can be annoyingg as hell and I have to stay up sometimes because of it. I can imagine how aggravated Tord can get from it HWLEDK! It’s usually for low blood sugars though. Whenever I get low blood sugars, I take it as an excuse to eat all the candy I want HAGAHHAAA

So just imagining Tord having it is pretty fuckin cool, especially since I don’t know much characters who do have it, or headcanons of it. I see him working with robots and mechanics too, I wonder if he configures his own insulin pumps.

I love talking about cool ass shit that I know a lot about HAVSHHE if anyone’s curious about anything else T1D-related, ask away! Will take a bit to answer, but I don’t mind giving a bit more insight into it. :-)

ALSO Tord has been OBSESSED with My Sharona. This guy really badly wants to make a drum cover of this song and I’m being deadass this is probably going all the way at the top of his On Repeat.

Dean Winchester wasn’t exactly the textbook definition of a caretaker. He was more "duct tape and whiskey" than "tender love and care." 

But somehow, when it came to you, he figured it out.

It was well past midnight and the bunker was quiet. The pattern of the machines humming, making the whole place rumble faintly- it was a white noise that can put anyone to a deep sleep. You had crashed early, thinking you'd make it through the night without an issue, but something tugged you awake. Your blood sugar was tanking, and you felt it in the tremble of your hands and the fog in your head.

You fumbled for your glucose tabs on the nightstand, cursing softly when you knocked the container to the floor- the sounds of the tablets crashing on the floor wasn't exactly the comforting sound you needed at the moment. 

Dean’s voice came from the doorway- breaking your deep concentration for breathing as you looked up from the floor-, rough with sleep, but alert. Always alert. You assumed he was in the library, doing endless research and finding more hunts to do the next morning… he was still wearing those ridiculously adorable reading glasses you gave him a while back when you noticed how he would squint ever so slightly when he reads. 

You didn’t even have to answer before he was by your side, crouching down to pick up the scattered tabs and handing one to you like it was second nature.

“You okay?” he asked, watching you closely, eyes scanning you like he would a wounded hunter. Not panicked, but focused. Ready.

You nodded, chewing slowly, savoring the bittersweet taste that exploded on your tongue. “Low. I felt it coming on.”

“Yeah, figured. You get that look,” he said, softening just a little. “Like you’re here, but not really.”

You gave a weak smile. “Sexy, huh?”

Dean chuckled and carefully wrapped his arms around you, carrying you onto the bed before climbing in beside you, wrapping an arm around you once again gently,

“Yeah, well. Beats the hell outta demons and ghost guts.”

You leaned into him, the warmth of his chest grounding you while your body started to stabilize. He didn’t say much-just held you like it was something he’d trained for, like he’d done a hundred times. 

Because he had.

After a moment, he nudged your forehead with his lips. “I hate that you have to deal with this. I’d take it from you if I could.”

You swallowed, the sugar finally kicking in, and whispered, “It’s really not that bad once you get used to it. But you being here? That helps more than you think.”

Dean stayed quiet after that, letting his hand trace lazy circles on your arm until your heartbeat settled. 

You both drifted off- him curled around you protectively, as if daring the world to mess with you while he was there.

Can I talk about how EXHAUSTING it is to be diabetic? The constant blood sugar changes the insulin injections, the supplies costs, the anxiety, the anger, the gas, the constipation, the late nights, the shakes, the aches, the dehydration, depression, the isolation, the EVERYTHING. It's been five years of this and I'm so over it.

Been a type 1 diabetic since I was 10 years old. Unfortunately the importance of foot care as a diabetic, I never took serious enough. Because of diabetic neuropathy due my laziness on foot care, my left leg had amputated below the knee in 2018. If you're diabetic and don't think it's that serious, let my nub be a wake up call that taking care of yourself is of major importance.

Low blood sugar is kind of funny to think about sometimes, it’s almost like a curse. You get to ignore your chronic illness for a little bit and eat without worrying about insulin or carbs. But at the same time your body is slowly shutting down, your brain is starving and you are in a confused, sweaty daze. So while you are enjoying a small moment without the stress of diabetes, you are also actively dying.

Kind of a weird way to look at it I guess
