I made my call. I fought through the anxiety and I did it. I talked for a long time. By the time I was done the person I spoke to said he wants to watch the show now. And, honestly, it feels really good to have put my thoughts out there where somebody might actually hear them. Now it's your turn. 855-442-6629 (don't forget to be kind to your operator)

hot tip for my followers with phone anxiety:
call your reps to tell them to stop supporting the israeli occupation and genocide of palestinian people after their office has closed.
Jewish Voice For Peace has easy scripts to follow, and will connect with you your reps one after another. I just left three voicemails that way with no concern about having a real person pick up the phone.

Tip for phone anxiety around doctors visits
Bring everything you need to a doctor's visit that will allow you to schedule follow-up visits right there, especially yearly screenings.
Once your appointment is over, you have already conquered the worst of your anxiety and inertia. Schedule any necessary appointments right there and you can put it out of your mind once you're home.

i'm not saying that i relate to a greedy child-murdering billionaire boomer, but i also react this way whenever i'm forced to make/receive a phone call.

This is going to sound absolutely wild, but one way I've found to help with my phone anxiety is calling governor's offices to ask for stays of execution on people. Okay, stick with me here. So, it's an activity where the bar for success is literally just "made the call, was intelligible enough for the person who picked up the phone to write down the very basics." It's a call where you can use a pre-written script. It's not a conversation, it's just you say the thing and then they ask if that's all and you say yes thank you. And most importantly, it's okay if they think you're weird or if you stumble over your words a little. AND it's okay to sound a little upset. The bar for success is much lower than in most interactions.
So with that in mind, please call Governor Greg Abbot and ask for a stay of execution for Ivan Cantu. Just call 844-818-9330 and they'll give you an explantation of the situation and and say to ask for a 30 day stay of execution. Then it forwards you to Greg Abbot's office.
Someone who works there then picks up the phone saying this is Greg Abbot's office and then you say this little script and that's all.
Just Introduce yourself and then say:
"Texas plans to execute Ivan Cantu on February 28th. There is so much wrong with the case against him, including false testimony, evidence withheld by prosecution, and key witnesses later recanted. Please issue a 30 day stay of execution and urge Collin County DA Greg Willis to withdraw the execution date in light of new evidence just disclosed by his own office, showing that the star witness falsely testified against Ivan and lied in her testimony."
If you want more info about Ivan's situation, read here. But the biggest thing you can do to help is call.

Phone anxiety is so common amongst millennials and Gen Z. I can鈥檛 pinpoint why, but it鈥檚 a confusing mix of not being able to see visual social cues, not really having the experience, and the demand of getting a phone call and feeling pressured to answer it immediately.

I just made a phone call to my insurance, after waking up and before breakfast.
And it went well.
I stuttered, and the conversation was somewhat circular in places and you know what? It doesn't matter. I got what I needed and the man did his job. We both stayed friendly. That's all that matters.
It gets better, I promise.

Having phone anxiety is like, finally forcing yourself to ring the doctors, and being like: Yes, can I have 4 doctors appointments please!
Then feeling like that is such a big job, that you're officially done for the day!

sometimes you just have to go to a hellsite you never otherwise use and rant a 16-tweet thread at your state's welfare account because each one of your problem-solving phone calls across multiple unrelated offices that day put you through their automated systems only to hang up on you
