Circle Lens Review: Sweety Butterfly Red and Sweety Bella Blue Grey
For our most recent lenses, we tried out a red tone for an upcoming Marceline cosplay, as well as a more neutral grey!  We were especially impressed with the red this time around; these lenses are always really hit or miss with us, so keep reading under the cut!
For anyone who’d like to order from Uniqso in the future, don’t forget that you can always receive a 10% discount off everything (even already discounted stuff) by using our coupon code CBC with the link: http://bit.ly/2pkrODc .  Uniqso is also currently running a 20% off discount on all crazy-style lenses.
Sweety Butterfly Red
https://www.uniqso.com/products/sweety-butterfly-red?variant=13149397385239
Diameter 14.5mm
Water Content 38%
Base Curve 8.6mm
These are some of my favorite red lenses I've ever tried, and I'm genuinely interested now in trying out the other colors in this Butterfly series!  I was seriously impressed with all aspects of these.
Tumblr media
Comfort: 4.5/5.  You guys know I struggle sometimes with Sweety lenses,  but these were great!  One lens "floated" a tiny bit at first but after a few seconds everything was extremely comfortable.
Enlargement: 4.5/5.  These lenses are huge on top of having a dark ring for an extra pop!  Easilly the most enlarging red lenses I've ever tried.
Color/design: 5/5.  I love these.  So many red lenses are a flat color or don't enlarge, and not only do these have a great darker outer ring, but the pattern is interesting without being too cartoony!  These are perfect lenses for cosplay or any sort of "spooky" outfit, and also work just fine over lighter eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sweety Bella Blue Grey
https://www.uniqso.com/products/sweety-bella-blue-grey-l124?variant=6857451110433
Diameter 14.5mm
Water Content 38%
Base Curve 8.6mm
Tumblr media
Comfort: 3/5.  I had some mixed results with these - the first time I wore them I had no problems at all, but upon a second wear I struggled to keep the lenses in.  My eyes just don't love certain Sweety series for some reason.
Enlargement: 3/5.  I would say these are more of a "natural" looking lens, so while the color is very bold, you don't get an unnatural-looking enlargement out of them.
Color/design: 4/5.  I'm a sucker for grey lenses, and the color on these are bold and really beautiful!  They're very striking up close, but are a pretty natural-looking design from farther away, which would be well-suited for crossplay, regular wear, or pretty much anything.

Circle Lens Review: Sweety Free Pink and Sweety Anime Pink
It’s circle lens review time again!  For a few upcoming costumes we needed some pink lenses, and so we decided to try out two different pink lenses from the Sweety brand, in order to roll the dice and try and find the right shade.  It's really easy for pink lenses to end up too light, or so dark that they no longer appear the right shade - click below the cut for our full review!
Sweety Free Pink
https://www.uniqso.com/products/sweety-free-pink-b114?variant=7280191242273
Diameter 14.5mm
Water Content 38%
Base Curve 8.6mm
While the Sweety Free pinks have some amazing true pink customer photos, these ended up more on the deep magenta side!  It could definitely be due to having lighter eyes that shifted the color more toward the red side of the spectrum - you may end up with a lighter pink if your eyes are brown.
Tumblr media
Comfort: 3.5/5.  These were weirdly mixed - I had no problems at all the first time I wore them all day at a con, but then on the next attempt to wear them I had difficulty putting them in and switched to the other pair.  I'm not sure what happened here!
Enlargement: 4.5/5.  These aren't meant to give a dolly effect, but they have a really great "pop" that definitely increases the size of your eye.
Color/design: 4.5/5.  I actually really liked the design of these - it's a very deep color that still has a lot of variation in it!  However as a "pink" lens, it definitely shifts more toward a deep reddish-pink magenta, rather than a very bright pink.  If that's what you're going for it may be a great option; otherwise you may want to avoid it if you have light eyes and are looking for a true pink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sweety Anime Pink
https://www.uniqso.com/products/sweety-anime-pink-b158?variant=7115884920865
Diameter 14.5mm
Water Content 38%
Base Curve 8.6mm
Tumblr media
Comfort: 4/5.  No issues with this style!  Sweety isn't my favorite lens in terms of comfort, but I haven't had issues at either con I've worn them to.
Enlargement: 2.5/5.  Do not expect enlargement with these lenses - in fact, the stark, bright color and lack of a ring makes these lenses look smaller than your average circle lens.  That being said, the coloration is still really attention-grabbing.
Color/design: 3.5/5.  I am... really torn on these?  These lenses are very opaque and very cartoony, with a mix of both hot pink and yellow.  This makes for a WILDLY attention-grabbing lens, but one that sometimes they can look genuinely creepy in photos?  I think this is definitely appropriate for certain characters, but I would not try these for any cutesy or more natural styles.

Uniqso Lace Front Wig Reviews
We're determined to work through all of Uniqso's lacefronts apparently; I'm a big fan of these in general, and am really liking the longer styles!  We'll be back to contacts next month, but for now check under the cut for some more in-depth reviews.
For anyone who’d like to order from Uniqso in the future, don’t forget that you can always receive a 10% discount off everything (even already discounted stuff) by using our coupon code CBC with the link: http://bit.ly/2pkrODc .
Blonde Bombshell Lace Front Wig
https://www.uniqso.com/products/premium-wig-blonde-bombshell-lace-front-wig-n6-16-1001
Wig Color: Blonde
Wig Length: 70cm
I keep picking wigs I really like for some reason, and this blonde wig is no exception.  Color-wise, this is a bleached blonde that reminds me a lot of Arda's titanium color and is really similar to something you'd want for Dany from Game of Thrones.  I'd say it's pretty accurate to the example photo in terms of both color and how tight and thick the curls are.  This wig fits pretty snug on my head (circumference of 21"), but if you have a larger head than that, this will probably be too small for you.
Also be careful if you have a really low hairline like mine - it likely will not be covered by the lace unless you have a smaller head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Long & Loose Toasted brown Lace Frontal
https://www.uniqso.com/products/premium-wig-long-loose-toasted-brown-lace-frontal-n12-6-8
Wig Color: Dark Brown
Wig Length: 70cm
This wig is long for a lacefront!  I know the description says 70cm but that is absolutely not true - it looks a lot closer to 90cm-ish.  And surprisingly thick too, considering it's about waist-length.  I really like the choice of layering and how natural it looks.  The only thing I'd change is that the hairline is a bit too thick because of how dark the hair is, but this is something some plucking can easily fix.  Like all of Uniqso's lacefronts, this is an average to small-average size wig, so be careful if you have a larger sized head.

Uniqso Lace Front Wig Reviews
It’s review time!  I always love trying Uniqso’s lacefront wigs - in particular the long styles!  This month we’ve reviewed two below the cut - one in a reverse rainbow ombre, and one in a curly mint style.

Premium Wig - Strawberry Blonde with Aqua Mint Under Lights Lace Front Wig
https://www.uniqso.com/products/premium-wig-strawberry-blonde-with-aqua-mint-under-lights-lace-front-wig-n34-c149?variant=12426092609559
Wig Color: Mixed color
Wig Length: 70cm
Style: Long & Straight
Oh man guys, I REALLY like this wig!  It’s ridiculously flattering, thick without looking super unnatural, and also has a splash of weird color without those dark roots that are in style now.  This is exactly the sort of wig that would be great for regular wear or a casual outfit at a con.  The hair itself is very matte, which is something I like, but comes with the caveat that it may be prone to tangling.
The base of this wig starts as an ash blonde, but then fades into rainbow colors in the underlayers.  This is such a great style, and one that I like even more than the previous rainbow wig we reviewed last time.  The one thing of note is that the cap is fairly sizeable, and I needed to use spirit gum to tack down the lacefront, which I often don’t have to do with smaller caps.

Premium Wig - Short Fantasy Lace Front Curly Wig
https://www.uniqso.com/collections/all/products/premium-wig-short-fantasy-lace-front-curly-wig-n17-c129
Wig Color: Mixed color
Wig Length: 35cm
Style:  Short & Curly
This is an interesting style, really similar to the red and orange blend that we tried earlier in the year!  Like the other wigs in this series, it is EXTREMELY thick.  Almost too thick at the crown, so be sure to either part the hair to the side, clip it back, or even remove some of the wefts at the top of the head if you’re looking for a more natural wig; I had some trouble getting it to lay flat.  For any kind of ponytailing or styling for cosplay however, this is pretty much the type of thickness you’re looking for.
The color itself is a really bold, minty aqua, and super interesting for anyone with a pink skintone like mine!

Wig Styling: Working with Foam pt 3 - Wrapping Flat Objects and The Wonders of Clear Glue
Wow I sure did forget to post this in a timely manner!  This is the third part of our guide to working with wigs and foam, and lately it’s been my favorite!  This is a great method to use on wigs like Ivysaur, which require a lot of clean, flat-ish shapes.  While I could technically use the hot glue wrapping technique covered in part 2, this is a bad choice for a number of reasons.  First, the edges of my object are not hidden, which means I’d have a big, visible hot glue mess at the edge of my weft.  Second, it’s difficult to keep hair taut on a flat or gently curved object, so I’d have a hard time keeping the tension up while gluing the hair down.   And third, this method is just plain nicer looking.
Tumblr media
Instead I used 100% tacky glue on this wig.  I recommend this method whenever possible because it is VERY clean, very secure, and mistakes are easily fixed.  This is a difficult method to use on a bun or round object because you’re fighting against gravity, but you could always use tacky glue after hot gluing down your edges.  Instructions under the cut:
[ Working with Foam part 1 / part 2 / part 3 ]
[ More tutorials on Tumblr ]
[ More tutorials on Patreon ]
Required Materials:
Foam, stiffened felt, posterboard (or understructure material of choice)
 Spare wefts
Tacky glue or other PVA-based glue (ie Elmers)
 Water
 Paintbrush
1) Begin by constructing your base shape from your understructure material.  If your shape is curved, remember that any extreme bumps or ridges may be visible after laying your very flat layer of hair.  Try to make your shape as smooth as possible.
2) Paint your shape to match your wefts and allow to dry.
Tumblr media
3) Add a small amount of water to your glue until it’s around the viscosity of corn syrup or soft body paint - a very small amount should do.  You want it to be easier to brush on, but not so runny that the glue flows through your wefts.
4) Spackle some glue onto your base, along where you will lay your first section of hair.
Tumblr media
5) Grab your first section of hair.  I HIGHLY recommend keeping the hair attached to your weft for now so that you can pull on the fibers without them tangling or pulling away.  Comb the hair out so that it’s free of tangles and then paint a generous layer of glue onto either side.
Tumblr media
6) Holding firmly onto the weft, run your fingers from the top of the hair to the bottom, smooshing the glue throughout the fiber.  Make sure everything is well coated and repeat, squishing out any excess glue if you used too much.  If you accidentally tangle your hair, comb it through with a fine-tooth comb.
NOTE: More glue is better than less glue.  If you use too little, your glue may begin to dry before you are done coating the fibers, which will cause pilling and may also cause it to not dry clear.
Tumblr media
7) Lay your hair onto your base.  If the edge of your hair will be visible, take care to form it into a nice point.
8) Repeat the above steps, laying your next section of hair alongside your first.  Continue until your entire base shape is completely covered.
Tumblr media
9) If your hair is popping up from the base shape or not staying put in the direction you want it to, add a duckbill clip or bobby pin.  Allow to completely dry for several hours.
Tumblr media
10) Once dry, smooth down or trim away any stray hair you may have missed.  Trim up any edges that will eventually be hidden in your finished style.

♛ I, Loki. Prince of Asgard. ♛
I’m so excited to finally finish this cosplay! I’m a big sucker for Norse-inspired designs, and with Loki I tried to combine the MCU design with more traditional materials. This is definitely my new go-to cosplay at cons for the next million years.

Circle Lens Review: New Adult Brown and Princess Mimi Almond
It’s lens review time - this month with two different brown circle lenses that I really like!  Click below the cut for a more in-depth review and photos.
For anyone who’d like to order from Uniqso in the future, don’t forget that you can always receive a 10% discount off everything (even already discounted stuff) by using our coupon code CBC with the link: http://bit.ly/2pkrODc .  There’s a pre-halloween sale going on right now for up to 50% off lenses, which means you can stack these coupons for up to 60% off!
EOS New Adult Brown
https://www.uniqso.com/products/eos-new-adult-brown?variant=28765834002
Diameter 14mm Water Content 38% Base Curve 8.6mm
This is the fifth and final New Adult lens we've tried, and I still love them for how comfortable and opaque they are!  This may be my favorite in the series because of how much the color really pops, which is a tough sell with lighter brown or gold-tinted lenses.
Tumblr media
Comfort: 4.5/5. Still love EOS.  If your eyes are sensitive or you have trouble with larger lenses, EOS is always a good choice since they're a relatively small diameter with a high water content.
Enlargement: 3.5/5.  Small lens, but I find them to be really intense because of how opaque they are, with a fairly dark ring.
Color/design: 4.5/5.  If you're looking for a gold-ish lens that isn't super unnatural-looking, or a light brown, this is a really great choice!  The color is still very strong over blue eyes, and doesn't suffer from that obnoxious problem with your natural eye color bleeding through the center.  Even in zoomed out photos, these are pretty intense.

Princess Mimi Almond
https://www.uniqso.com/products/princess-mimi-almond-xmm204?variant=28859124370
Diameter 14.2mm Water Content 38% Base Curve 8.6mm
Not gonna lie - Princess Mimi is one of my favorite lens series.  I love really huge, over the top dolly designs, and as long as that's what you're looking for, this is a great option.
Tumblr media
Comfort: 4.5/5. Despite being ridiculously huge, I find these very comfortable!  I wore these for half a day at a con with no issues at all.
Enlargement: 5/5.  Absolutely absurd.  Make sure you're looking for huge dolly eyes before grabbing these, because dang, they are enormous.
Color/design: 4/5.  While I really like the enlarging effect you get from this lens, I don't find these as charming as the Starmish Brown or even the Chocolate versions in this series, which are both lighter browns.  The Almond color is very, very dark, and does not result in a lot of color variation.

Circle Lens Review: EOS Dolly in Green and Blue
Hey, guys - it's been a while but we have some more lens reviews!  This is another month when we tried out the same lens model in two different colors: EOS Dolly in both green and blue.  Click below the cut for a more in-depth review and photos.
For anyone who’d like to order from Uniqso in the future, don’t forget that you can always receive a 10% discount off everything (even already discounted stuff by using our coupon code CBC with the link: http://bit.ly/2pkrODc
Keep reading
It's been a long time since I've worn dolly lenses - over five years actually.  Dolly Eyes used to be known for being super opaque and fairly comfortable, and it looks like they haven't changed much!  Both the green and the blue version of this lens were extremely color-intense but also comfortable seeing as it's an EOS lens with a fairly small diameter.
EOS Dolly Green
https://www.uniqso.com/products/eos-dolly-green-309lb?variant=5456620421153
Diameter: 14.2mm Water Content: 38% Base Curve: 8.7mm Replacement Period: Within 12 months
Tumblr media
Comfort 4/5:  Like the blue version of this lens I had no issues!  EOS is a fairly comfortable brand for me, and this line doesn't appear to be any different.
Enlargement: 4/5: These bad boys give even more of a pop than the blues because of the lighter color!  They aren't as dolly-ish as some of my other lenses despite the name, but I'd say it's definitely better than average.
Design: 4/5: These lenses are more suited for cosplay because of how intense and opaque they are - but if that's what you're looking for they're a great choice!  While the design itself isn't particularly inspiring, they remain very intense in all sorts of photos, and are opaque enough to deliver a true, medium green.

EOS Dolly Blue
https://www.uniqso.com/products/eos-dolly-blue-309lb?variant=5456605315105
Diameter: 14.2mm Water Content: 38% Base Curve: 8.7mm Replacement Period: Within 12 months
Tumblr media
Comfort 4/5:  I like these a lot!  I had no trouble at all wearing them, and at subsequent conventions they never gave me issues within the normal wear time.  The s mall base diameter might have something to do with that.
Enlargement: 3.5/5: For such a small lens, you get a LOT of pop with these since they're so opaque and have such an obvious outer ring.  It would probably be even more obvious in a slightly lighter shade.
Design: 3.5/5: If you want an very intense but possibly unrealistic lens, this is for you!  The opacity helps guarantee that the color will cover up your natural eye color, while still looking pretty intense in farther photos.  Unfortunately I wish that the color was a little on the lighter side - this blue is rich but a deeper than the royal or light blue that I prefer.

Do you find Cosplay Cards helpful as a means to give your info to other cosplayers/photographers? And if you don't, is there another method you'd recommend for quick info exchange at cons/shoots? Thanks!
YES.  Cosplay cards or business cards are now considered a pretty standard thing to have, simply because they are the easiest, most convenient way to share your info with photogs and other cosplayers you run into.  the only trick is to remember to bring them with you down to the con floor!
