#studyblrs get real
If you weren’t up at 3AM last night like some of us (which is good because you shouldn’t be!!!) please look at this post that @universi-tea made since that is where this blog idea and the actual hashtag came from!
Every Studyblr photo has a back story. There is something in the photo that you don’t know about. Whether the person re-wrote those notes four times, ripped out multiple pages of their bullet journal because the header wasn’t perfect, or took over one hundred photos to get a clear & sharp one, the photo was not “perfect” automatically. Lots of time, effort, and photo editing comes into posting almost every single Studyblr photo. Is this why we continue to dread on ourselves when our studying isn’t the same as the photos we see?
Similarly, motivation and preference differ for everyone. Some people enjoy using a bullet journal, some people love mildliners, and some people are in love with Muji stationery. However, some people don’t, and as a community we must respect each others’ motivations and preferences. As it is alright to love the classic Studyblr stationery, it is also alright to not.  You can enjoy reblogging Studyblr aesthetic photos, and you can also choose not to. And, you can also enjoy editing your photos, but you can also prefer not to.
We’ve all used the Studyblr hashtags. #studyblr, #studyspo, #studyspiration. But some end up in disappointment when no one clicks like, reblogs their photo, or when someone even sends hate on anonymous. Is there a hashtag we can use to avoid anonymous hate, to see people actually reblog our photos, and to see an increase in likes as well as meet people who are similar to us?
@universi-tea and @piratestudy have created the hashtag “#studyblrs get real” where “you guys (can) post the real side of studying. post the stories about how you overslept and were late for class. post the pictures of your notes before you redo them. post the no-makeup, two am selfies. post your real life, because it’s happening and it may not be perfect but it’s valid and beautiful and the world needs to see it”(this post).
The hashtag is supposed to bring a positive change “(in) the culture from one where people have to ask if they can still be a studyblr if they don’t have certain supples, to one where people can scroll through their dash and say ‘wow! i do that too,’” because “sometimes it’s messy notes and skipping class to do work for another, or turning in an assignment late so that you can spend time with you friends. it can be sitting in the back of class scrolling through instagram because you just can’t handle school today. it’s a lot of all nighters and coffee and junk food and less than beautiful study spaces. it’s not always (or maybe even ever) beautiful notes and being totally prepared and having you’re life together all the time. it’s not all avocado toast and calligraphy. and that’s okay”(this post).
The point of irlstudying is to reblog all of the posts in the hashtag, as well as reblog similar posts that may have not used the hashtag, to the blog so everyone can come to the blog and see how many people are like them. It is a collection of posts that you may not otherwise see in your dashboard or regular Studyblr tags.
There aren’t any special rules to use the hashtag. Just tag your posts, and they’ll be reblogged!
You don’t have to tag this blog, but you can if you want.
You don’t have to follow this blog, but all followers are welcomed and are appreciated!
The admin of irlstudying is @studyvet. The original hashtag idea was created by @universi-tea and @piratestudy though, so please give credit to them! They also deserve your follow if you ever plan on using the hashtag. :) If you have any questions about the blog, you can send an ask here. But you should send any questions about the hashtag to them!

personally, i find starting a new semester is more significant than starting a new year. so i figured i’d write a guide for myself and you guys to succeed. hope ot helps xx
1. recreate your study space
i find having having the same setting on your desk all the time makes you less productive. so what i recommend doing is to recreate your study place by replacing things. if you keep your pens on the right side of desk move them to the left and if you can and things it’ll help you move your whole desk somewhere else.
additionally, clean. clean your desk, your drawers and everything you need for your study. if that still doesn’t work - clean your whole room.
2. set some goals that are not impossible yet not that easy to achieve
in my opinion, you always need some goals to motivate you to do something. i have made the mistake of those goals being too big and unreachable. however, if you do decide to aim for something that seems impossible make sure to put some milestones on the way to reach on the go.
3. do not only study right before a test
this is probably a tip that pretty much everyone has given you already, i know. it was the same with me but weirdly i only learned it after my nutrition teacher told us in 10th grade.
it doesn’t mean that you have to study each subject as hard as you would if you had a test the next day just revise one chapter or a few pages every once in a while.
4. plan your day
before i decided to get a bullet journal i found this so unnecessary but now i am eager to cross off as many things as i have written down to do each day.
but be careful though. even if crossing off many things is satisfying try not to overschedule yourself. it’s less depressing to have 3 out of 3 things done than to have 5 out of 12 things done.
5. first things first
it may be tempting to do whatever you can cross off easily before all the other things but nevertheless, try to do more important things first especially if they are more time-consuming.
if this is totally impossible for you make sure to at least get started. that way you’ll decrease the risk of procrastination.
6. don’t forget to care about yourself
as a person that gets too obsessed with reaching her goals i often forget to care about myself. please try to avoid making that mistake and plan at least half an hour a day for self care.
7. do some exercises every once in a while to stay fit
try some yoga or pilates for relaxation and against a tense back after spending a day in front of your desk. additionally stretch in the morning to get ready for a successful day.
8. hydration and food
i have learned this very late but hydration is so important. drink some water as soon as you get up and bring something to drink anywhere you go for longer than an hour.
also, i love to snack while i study. despite all those study snack pictures of hummus, fruits and avocado don’t feel guilty if your snack consists of crisps. as long as your nutrition doesn’t consist a 100% of junk food some unhealthy snacks are totally okay.
9. find some motivating stuff
motivation is key to successful studying. as mentioned earlier your motivation can be a goal you want to achieve. however, it can also be a role model or simply a quote.
10. find a way that works for you
i did a masterpost on this some time ago:
- study methods and motivation

Current desk situation: organic chem notes from last year, current notes, overflowing binder of things to do (including a grant proposal due in a few months????), biochem and chem textbook that I neglected until too late (do yourself a favour and don’t fall behind on readings). Not seen in this picture: post-lab reports that I haven’t finished because I have a biochem midterm in a few days, my personal lab notebook (I also accidentally brought home my official lab notebook oops), and papers, papers, papers everywhere. On the plus side I’m finally out of my studying slump!
(The flowers are for Chinese New Year, let’s hope I don’t kill them this time)

Meet Marzi. She’s an introvert who often finds herself in awkward situations. Marzi used to feel strange about her introverted tendencies. Not anymore! Now she knows that there are tons of introverts out there just like her–introverts who enjoy peace and quiet, need time alone to recharge their battery, and who prefer staying in with their pet and a good book to awkward social interactions. Just like Marzi, these introverts can often be found in libraries, at home watching Netflix, brainstorming excuses to miss your next party, or doodling cute cartoons. Being an introvert in an extrovert world isn’t always easy, but it certainly is an adventure. In Introvert Doodles, follow Marzi through all of her most uncomfortable, charming, honest, and hilarious moments that everyone–introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between–can relate to.
