I decided to change up who I normally write about for a bit, and decided to do an AU for Danganronpa V3 centered on Tsumugi’s Mother and Shuichi’s uncle being detectives and trying to find out the location that the killing game is taking place! If you’re willing to give this smal snippet I have a read, I would appreciate it. 💜💙💜

Another dull day in the office had Minerva bored as ever. There was something life sucking about the plain eggshell color that surrounded her vicinity, as though it were impenetrable. Trying to focus on the paperwork that had been so unceremoniously dropped onto her desk wasn't working out for her very well, and she was getting to the point of frustration. She didn't hear the door creak as she let her hands run through her hair, pulling at the roots.

"C'mon, you of all people should know not to tear hair out over a case like this. It isn't your fault that it happened."

Minerva looked up from her messy brown hair that had found its way to her face, attempting to look through the messy hair. Sure enough, the ex detective she had called her partner for years was awkwardly standing in the doorway, giving the same pitiful face as always.

"Saihara. You know you shouldn't be here."

"And yet, you're not throwing me out. I appreciate the gesture," he chuckled quietly, eyeing the seat in front of Minerva's desk. A silent question lingered in the air before she motioned to the chair, and he made himself comfortable.

"I don't suppose you came in here to just check up on me."

"You're right, and I'm sorry that it isn't something so simple; it's just... with everything that had happened recently, I couldn't help but pick your brain about it too. You understand, don't you?" The man sat at the edge of his chair, the leather quietly bending to his anxious shape.

"I know your nephew has been missing for awhile, but I don't know why you think I would know anything about it." She messed with some of the papers in her desk, opting to forego eye contact. She knew it would just hinder her operation more, and couldn't be bothered.

"I think you have a personal stake in the case too, y'know. After all..." he quickly pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and gently put it on her desk, turning it for her viewing convenience before sitting himself back in the chair. "That's your kid with him, isn't it?"

Minerva finally caved and looked at the picture after a few moments of hesitation, and sure enough saw her daughter standing with Saihara's nephew in a dilapidated school courtyard. Her stomach dropped when she read the headline adorning it. 'Cunning Children Forced to Kill!' didn't necessarily have a comforting tone to it, especially considering her daughter had informed her she would be going to a convention. She had just figured she got so caught up in demonstrating her passions, she had forgotten to call back home.

"Where did you..." she began to ask before stopping. She knew where the snippet had come from, but she just couldn't seem to process the information in front of her. Saihara got up instinctively and went behind the desk to put a hand on her shoulder as she shook slightly.

"I know it's a lot to just drop on you. This, uh, 'piece' was done in the newspaper about a week ago. Not only that, but if you want to see her, it's possible too." He bit his lip, looking away from her. "Truthfully, I wouldn't recommend it though."

"How-- how would I be able to see her right now?" She asked breathlessly, still looking at her child's face in disbelief. Saihara picked up a remote that was laying dangerously close to the edge and turned on the small tv in her office and frantically flipped the channels. She looked up with baited breath, until a group of kids were on the screen in what appeared to be a gymnasium. Sure enough, amongst the crowd, Minerva could see that unmistakable shade of blue hair her daughter loved so dearly. She clasped her hands over her mouth, eyes wide in the dread she had been faced with.

"So... I suppose now you can sidebar the other case?" He asked hopefully. Minerva looked up at him, and she couldn't sense any malice in the apologetic face he was giving her. The same face that had accompanied her on her first few jobs as a detective with a quiet and patient voice was giving the same patient smile he had given during her deductions so they could come to the same conclusion.

"I guess I can... just- the office doesn't need to know, alright?" She reluctantly gave in, sighing as she did. Saihara's posture relaxed a bit as he set his badge on her desk, laying it so his name was shining in the light. It was definitely like Sadakata Saihara to find himself in the most interesting cases.

"If we fail this case, consider that my apology to you."

Minerva quickly got out of her chair, picking up the manila files of what she was previously working on and put them in a nearby filing cabinet. She looked at her nails for a moment before giving a content smile.

"That won't be necessary when the best detectives in the precinct are on the case."

Naegiri Week Day 3: Stars

So one of my favourite things to do for Naegiri Week when I receive a prompt… is to find my own weird little way to twist it. Today’s prompt is one of those times. I don’t really have any general warnings to give, apart from the fact that this piece features body image issues.

“Kyoko Kirigiri was more attractive before she had kids.”

A stupid statement. A rude, stupid statement. Some tabloid writer said it, or rather, wrote it. She knew it was a hook to get readers. Almost everyone said she shouldn’t take it personally. In the grand scheme of things, the words of one tabloid writer meant nothing, they claimed. He was just some idiot who measured her worth as a person by the way she looked; his words were no proof of how everyone else felt about her. No matter what awful things he said about her and her body; the comments he made about her having “too much fat on her stomach” and “hips that only accentuate her obvious weight gain” were that of a loser. Everyone told her that he was an idiot, and that she should just ignore him. He wasn’t worth it.

And rightfully, maybe he wasn’t. Maybe she should have ignored it.

But it was hard to feel like that asshole didn’t have a point when she met herself in the mirror.
