Peter pushes his nose right up against the glass, separating him and the Spiders. Staring wide-eyed, heart pounding with excitement, one of the spiders works on creating a brand-new web right in front of his eyes.

A soft hand grasped Peter’s shoulder, pulling him a few steps back. Before it moves to ruffle Peter’s hair instead. “Not too close, Bambino,” Tony says with a soft grin, “Bruce warned you that the spiders are skittish.”

Peter’s shoulders slump slightly, but he doesn’t argue with his dad. He obediently takes a full step backward and pushes his glass back into place with a routine nudge.

“Sorry, Dad,” Peter says honestly, looking up at the man with wide, innocent eyes.

i choose to believe steve’s never gone to the dentist bc before the serum he couldn’t afford it and after he didn’t need to. but he kinda forgot that most people do go to the dentist.

and then somehow the concept of identifying a corpse via dental records comes up and steve just kinda pauses. and is like. Oh shit hm maybe i should.

So he does a quick assessment of his teammates and tries to decide who would be the most chill about this. and then he approaches clint and is like hey man. do your kids go to the dentist. if so, how? and where? and what-

His mind had played tricks on him like this in the past, had led him to believe that he was looking at Peter Parker, who was supposed to be dead, when in reality it was just another white, curly-haired teenager. He knew, logically, he needed to turn around and let this go.  He needed to let Peter go. To move on. But then the kid in question lifted his head ever-so-slightly, his ears peeking out of his extremely outgrown curls, and Tony hiccuped a mini heart attack. That was his kid. Peter finding a coffee shop where the owner gives him discounts because he feels bad. The coffee shop has kids movies playing in loop, and Peter likes to go in whenever he’s lost in his mind, so he can escape it.

They’re playing lilo and stitch one day. He gets through most of it, but has to leave tearing up at “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind… or forgotten.”

He doesn’t go back for a few weeks. He can’t decide if he’s more hurt by the “forgotten” part (why did they forget him? how could they? they didn’t have a choice, but how could it be so easy to forget him?) or the “left behind” part (Why did he leave them behind? How could he? he didn’t have a choice, but how could he leave them behind so easily?)

i can’t help but think that tony invented time travel and finally got to rest, and now it’s peter that doesn’t get to. the curse got handed down, to the next man that felt like he wasn’t doing enough good with the gifts he was given.

and i think if tony knew that his freedom in death would mean peter becoming trapped in pressure and legacy, tony would have fought harder for his life

“I know,” Mr. Stark assures, stepping even closer, his voice a soft, gentle whisper. “Your senses, Pete, how bad is it?”
