Tony had always thought that Bruce’s love language was quality time. 

It made sense, with the way Bruce had proposed weekly team dinners once they’d all moved into the Tower; the way he always offered to come along whenever Nat announced that she was going on a grocery run or Steve mentioned a new bakery he wanted to try out; the way he gravitated toward the common areas, though primarily the kitchen, as if waiting to be joined by someone else in silent companionship.

But now, Tony could see that he was only half-right.

Because Bruce’s real love language was food.

It wasn’t like he was discreet about it, always hovering by the stove, boiling hot chocolate on cold, winter nights, or stirring curry in a pot big enough to feed an entire army — which, granted, was pretty much exactly what he was doing. But still, it had taken Tony a while to really notice that cooking wasn’t just an idle hobby of Bruce’s, it was his way of showing that he cared. Showing that he really loved the team, that he planned on sticking around, even if he couldn’t bring himself to actually say the words aloud just yet.

“You mentioned something about your mom making minestrone whenever you were sick,” Bruce had said, the first time Tony realized it through his Nyquil-induced haze, just over three months ago when he was laid up in bed with a head cold. Bruce’s tone was almost sheepish, as was the cute curl of his smile, and he continued on, awkwardly standing in Tony’s doorway with a breakfast tray in hand. “I’m sure this is a little different than hers—it can be hard to pin down an exact recipe—but... I hope it helps anyway.”

And it had. Not only had the hot soup soothed his throat and sinuses, but it had also reminded Tony of those few precious memories from his early childhood, of his mother spoon-feeding him while he feigned embarrassment, of the rare days he skipped school and stayed home with her, his father nowhere in sight.

She had been similar, his mother. Like Bruce, she could stand in front of the stove all day, pouring her heart into her cooking. Her culinary skills unfortunately hadn’t been passed down to Tony, but he’d still tried, every year on her birthday and on Mother’s Day, to make her something at least partially edible.

It had been a long while since Tony had attempted to cook anything, but he figured a first date was a special enough occasion to break out the Carbonell recipe book and give it the ol’ college try.

Less than an hour later, Tony was scraping burnt pasta off the bottom of the pan, the smoke detector beeping loudly and insistently above him. 

So loudly, in fact, that he didn’t hear the elevator doors open with a ding just down the hall.

“Christ,” Tony muttered, dropping the charred pan into the sink and dousing it with water. Thankfully—surprisingly—his cooking hadn’t started a fire quite yet, but it sure had been a close thing.

It was almost funny, really. The one time Tony could actually use DUM-E‘s help with an extinguisher and the poor bot was holed up in the workshop.

“JARVIS, think you can help me out a little here?”

“With the smoke alarm, I’d be happy to,” JARVIS replied, much too cheerily, and a second later the beeping finally stopped. “With your cooking, I’m not so sure.”

Tony rolled his eyes at that. “Always the confidence boost I need, J.”

It was only a meek knock on the doorframe leading into the kitchen that turned Tony’s attention away from the sink, spinning around to face Bruce. His tweed blazer was just a size too big, and that dark purple button-up he brought out for special occasions peeked out from underneath. Despite his casual lean against the doorframe, there was a hint of concern in his gaze as he assessed the scene in front of him. “Hi,” he said, with that adorably awkward smile that Tony always wanted to kiss right off his face. “Um, is now a bad time? I know I’m a bit early, but if we have reservations or anything, I figured—”

“No, no, you’re right on time,” Tony assured, offering a dazzling grin to distract from the mess lining the countertop behind him: the dirty dishes piling out of the sink, the open jars and boxes, the scraps of ingredients thrown around.

It didn’t seem to work as well as he’d hoped, because Bruce’s only response was a dubious and slightly confused look.

For a moment, Tony seriously considered dropping the whole homemade meal idea and never mentioning it again, but Bruce had been honest with him when arranging the date—honest about his dislike of expensive, high-end restaurants, about his general nervousness dating with the Hulk now a large part of his life—and Tony figured it was only fair to extend the same courtesy.

“Okay, confession time: I’m not a good cook. Like, at all,” Tony started, leaning back against the counter and letting out an exhale. “But I was trying to make you dinner because I know you weren’t into the whole fancy-schmancy restaurant idea, and... long story short, nothing is edible anymore, which is kinda turning my plans upside-down.” His grin curled into one of mild embarrassment. “So, instead, we’re gonna have to improvise a little here. I’m thinking maybe we grab some pizza from that hole-in-the-wall hipster place across the street. I hear they have those wood-fired ovens — and plenty of vegetarian options. Whaddya say?”

Tony had been hoping they could breeze past this without dwelling too much on the mess or his clear lack of culinary proficiency, but with the way Bruce was glancing curiously around at the pots and pans laying out, it seemed less and less likely by the second. 

Tony started not to mind so much, though, when a fond little smile tugged at the other’s lips. “You tried to cook for me,” Bruce murmured to himself, like he was still processing the sheer thought of it.

“Well, try is the operative word there. Certainly didn’t succeed.”

“What were you trying to make?”

“Aglio e olio,” Tony admitted, a surprising heat rising to his cheeks. “It’s only, like, three ingredients. The recipe said to add in some red pepper flakes to make it more fiery, but I didn’t think they were being literal.”

At that, Bruce’s soft smile broke into a much bigger, much looser grin, and he let out a laugh, shaking his head. “Well,” he said, slipping out of his jacket and throwing it over one of the stools lined up at the kitchen island. Bruce rolled up his sleeves, and already, he looked much more comfortable than he had a couple minutes ago, his general shyness falling away as it was quickly replaced with the dexterity and determination that Tony often saw in the lab. “As much as I love a nice wood-fired pizza, I don’t think a homemade dinner is off the table just yet. Aglio e olio, I can teach you,” he suggested lightly. 

And even though Tony would’ve been happy to never touch a pan again in his life after the harrowing experience he’d just had five minutes ago, he had a pretty hard time denying Bruce anything, especially when he turned those soft puppy-dog eyes on him. Not only that, but it was pretty sweet of Bruce to offer in the first place. Despite the fact that he liked to cook for other people, rarely ever did Tony see him cook with anybody, and it warmed his heart to know that Bruce was willing to share something so personal with him.

“I don’t know, I think I might just be a hopeless case,” Tony said, though his tone was more teasing than anything.

His efforts at playing coy were rewarded with a fond eye-roll.

“Oh come on. Cooking’s like a science — a little bit of chemistry, a little bit of physics,” Bruce continued on, casting a knowing smile over at Tony. He did a walk-through of the kitchen, pulling all the ingredients and supplies he needed from the mess around the room. “I have a feeling you’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly, with some practice.”

Tony couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking his head. “Using science against me. You sure know the way to my heart, Banner,” he said.

Bruce’s smile softened as he gently set everything down on the island—a couple of half-full boxes of pasta, a bottle of olive oil, a clean pot—before sneaking another ridiculously fond glance over at Tony. “And you know the way to mine.”

I saw a scene from She-Hulk and I had to make a video surrounding it. Half of the video was made out of anger and the other half made out of desperation to find scenes.

I personally don't like how Phrase 4 is going and I'm not excited for Phrase 5. I think they're trying too hard to get out their agenda and their stories seem like the writers are not trying. The movies don't seem to have enough actual story and more like action or lectures and it's ruining the vibe of the movies that have such great potential.

Lena was watching people get themselves seated on the beach when she heard noise behind her. She turned around to see Kara holding food, a LOT of it.

“Food!” she exclaimed, springing to her feet. “Yes, I got us food. Sorry it took longer than I anticipated.” Kara actually looked contrite, for some reason. Lena extended both hands towards the food. “Gimme.”

“Well yes of course, here is your food, your majesty. Nevermind your girlfriend coming back to you.”

“Kara. My saviour, my knight in a shining armour. Saving your girlfriend from the horrible, terrible hypoglycemia.”

Kara scoffed. “You’re ridiculous.”

“You knew that.”

“Yeah,” Kara shrugged. She gave Lena a kiss then some of the food. The two women sat back on their towel and sunk their feet in the sand. 

There, they sat in companionable silence as they ate, people coming and going, getting ready to watch the fireworks that would conclude the day’s Pride celebrations. The girlfriends finished their food, cleaned up,  then Lena laid down until she rested her head on Kara’s lap. They watched the fireworks like that, completely relaxed for once, content. No company to run, no reporting to do, no end of the world… Just the two of them laying down in the sand, watching bright colours in the sky.

Once the fireworks show ended, the organisers put on some slow songs so that people would trickle out in music if they wanted. Lena and Kara were happy to stay on their spot, until they heard a few memorable notes and the start of a new song.

Immediately, without even consulting the other, they rose to their feet, then embraced each other. As the first words resonated, they started to sway.

Kara and Lena danced like that for a minute, under the bright stars, before Kara chuckled.

“I can hear your brain working. What are you thinking about?” “Just wondering what the fireworks look from the sky.” “Wonderful,” Kara replied with a kiss. “Will you take me?” “Next time, I will get you high up to see the fireworks.”

Tony was definitely not a morning person.

Despite that, Bruce wasn’t too worried to find that his boyfriend’s side of the bed was already cold at the crack of dawn. Even though they were on vacation, he could always count on Tony to find some work to do in the lab downstairs, and figured that he was probably elbow-deep in his latest midnight breakthrough. 

Bruce decided to wake himself up with a cup of tea before going down to join him. While he waited for the water to boil, he took a moment to admire the scenery through the kitchen window facing the back of the house: the sun coming up just over a faded orange horizon, the waves lapping gently at the shore, the crabs skittering through the warm sand. It was still unreal to Bruce, the fact that Tony had built a whole house just for him—a secluded paradise tucked away on a cozy Mexican beach—and his heart jumped in his chest at the reminder that he now had more than one place where he could truly be himself. Where he could feel safe, and know that others would be safe from him; where he could finally relax and let his guard down.

First the Compound, and now… here. 

Just a few years ago, he never would’ve imagined it. Then again, he never would’ve imagined dating Tony then either, and now he couldn’t picture a life without his adoring, doting boyfriend in it. 

The high-pitched whistle of the kettle eventually called him back to the stove, and as he rummaged through the cabinets, looking for a box of chamomile tea, Bruce finally heard Tony come into the room. But when he turned around to greet him, Bruce realized that he hadn’t come in from the lab downstairs, he’d come in through the back door — as evidenced by the fact that he was wearing a wetsuit that didn’t leave much to the imagination. Not that Bruce exactly needed to use his imagination, when his memory could fill in the details just as well. 

“Hey, you’re up,” Tony greeted with one of his million-watt grins, pushing his damp hair out of his face and looking like he’d just stepped right off the cover of a magazine.

Bruce blinked. “So are you,” he said, dazedly. “Before noon. Willingly, it seems.”

“It’s a miracle,” Tony agreed with a laugh, coming over to plant a soft kiss to Bruce’s cheek, then stepping past him to get to the coffee machine. “I was doing a little surfing.”

“Surfing?” Bruce echoed back. “Okay, you’re freaking me out. Getting up early, doing non-sex-related cardio... What’s going on? Do I need to check your head?”

Tony offered an exaggerated roll of his eyes. “Oh c’mon, you can’t be that surprised. I lived in California for years!” 

Sure, Bruce knew that Tony had spent plenty of time in Malibu, and piloting the Iron Man armor for so many years had definitely given him the kind of balance and dexterity required for a hobby like that. But still.

“I guess you just never mentioned surfing before.”

“Well, if you wanna see my skills up close... I could give you a private lesson,” he offered, with that excited twinkle in his eyes that Bruce could never say no to. “I think you’d like it. Honestly. It combines all of your favorite things: balance, mindfulness, deep breathing.” 

Bruce raised a brow, skeptical. “Then why do you like it?”

“Because it also combines my favorite things: fun, danger, the possibility of seeing my very cute boyfriend in a tight wetsuit... Which, speaking of, I have an extra-special stretchy one for you, just in case. And a reinforced board.”

Bruce had never once thought about surfing before, and was still doubtful about the idea now, but he had to admit he was a bit touched, knowing that Tony had set everything up for him regardless. It was something he was good at, always making Bruce feel included. Reaffirming in hundreds of little ways that Tony liked his company, and not only that, he was always prepared for the Hulk’s as well. He never made the Other Guy seem like a burden or a curse. It was clear that Tony just saw him as another part of his boyfriend, a part that he accepted readily every time.

Bruce’s heart soared, and he wasn’t sure whether it was the thoughtfulness behind the gesture, or simply the relaxed, happy look in Tony’s eyes, but it suddenly became much harder to decline the invitation.

“I’ve never done it before,” he hedged, still hesitant.

“Do you want to?”

It sounded like a genuine question. Like Tony would drop the subject if Bruce really wasn’t willing or ready to step out of his comfort zone.

“I— I could give it a try.”

“And do you think Jolly Green would want to? There’s a fair chance he might come out, it can be a tough sport to learn,” he warned. “Frustrating, at times.”

Usually, Bruce wouldn’t even entertain an idea like this. Although he was slowly starting to accept the Hulk, he was still incredibly aware that his other half was a powerful and destructive force, and anything that would let him out haphazardly would be completely off the table.

But... here, with miles and miles of coastline all to themselves and no one else in sight, Bruce thought it was relatively safe. Hulk wouldn’t hurt Tony, he knew that; they’d become close over the years, and Tony was one of the few people on the planet who could calm him down. Bruce trusted him.

“I don’t really know,” he answered truthfully. Knowing Hulk, he might just hate it, considering his general lack of coordination and grace. But, then again, maybe he’d just be content to splash around in the water, making huge waves for Tony to ride himself. Either way, Bruce wanted to let them both give it a try.

He offered a tiny smile, gently reaching out for Tony’s hand.

“Only one way to find out.”

WIP Update - 23 Nov 2022

Had a slow-ish writing week  - I touched 3 fics (2 WIPs & 1 new works) for a total of 1788 words. On Ao3, I posted  the next chapter of my Stony Western AU, and  a pre-war Stucky domestic geting together ficlet;  the Stucky Bingo Round Robin from the November party was posted as well. On Tumblr I posted a  Bruce & Thor post-Ragnarok ficlet.  

Am at 11 active WIPs  (with a couple of maybe TBCs)  with my current   deadlines being   Comfortember and  Avengers Bingo, with  Man with a Plan, Starkbucks and Hero Hardships coming in close behind!  

See below cut for the WIPs  (arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc) I am working on  -   feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects   (or any other WIPs I’ve got out there) – they really help feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

Comfortember  [Runs thru 30 Nov]

Taking on the @comfortember writing challenge - I assembled a tracking doc and am aiming to complete one fill a week, preferably crossing over with a bingo fill.   I’ve posted fills for  Day 3: Warm Food and Day 16: Shelter  - hope to get a couple more banged out  by the end of the month.

Avengers Bingo [AvB] (Runs thru 24 Dec )

Twelve fills posted (10 to Ao3)  and 0 WIPs - I decided to further challenge myself on this 16-square card by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers, with the final square being PolyVengers. With the help of the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks - I’ve got all 16 squares  planned out, at least in terms of who to write about, and half of them have some sort of idea or crossover square to go along with them. Feel free to toss other plot  bunnies my way…  

* B3 - Road Trip  -  Wrote up and posted  Sailing Toward a New Horizon  to Tumblr.  It’s a Thor & Bruce post-Ragnarok ficlet  that also filled last week’s  @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt [#FFF177 Expand Through Horizons]  It will get added to Ao3 before the end of the bingo.

* B4 - Age Gap   - Thor/Tony - possible crossover with TSB One Night Stand  (obvious title: Thunderstruck)

* C1 - Opposites Attract - Clint/Thor  - there was a fun Tumblr  headcanon going around about a Bumbling Foreigner whose ignorance of  local customs  results in him flirting with/proposing to the prince -  this seems like a perfect matchup!  

* D1 - Friends w/ Benefits  - Clint/Steve - crossover with MWAPB Hawkeye/Clint Barton and possibly SRB - Never Have I Ever

* D2 - Romeo & Juliet AU  -  basic idea:  Steve (jock) & Tony  (geek) trying out for title roles in R&J - despite their respective  FWB groups thinking it’s a terrible idea.  Title:  Two Polycules, Alike in Dignity

* D3 - Bed Sharing  -  posted Finding Refuge here to Tumblr last week -  it’s a  Natasha/Bruce fic that is Age of Ultron based (divergent) and also fills today’s  Comfortember Day 16 prompt: Shelter.  It will get added to Ao3 before the end of the bingo.

Man With a Plan (Steve Rogers) Bingo [MWAPB] (Runs thru 31 Dec)

Fourteen fills, 1 WIPs and several Vague Ideas/potential cross fills with other bingos.  Prompts cheerfully accepted!  

* B3 - Farmer’s Market  -  crossover with TSB Doing Groceries. Moodboard + ficlet?

* B5 - “I don’t really want to wake up yet” - filled this a bit ago with Promises to Keep  posted here on Tumblr; it’s an established Stony ficlet with bonus Rhodey appearance that also filled a FFF   No Rest for the Wicked prompt and three October writing challenge prompts.  It came in at 453 words and will get posted to Ao3 sometime before the end of the year.  

* I1 - Steve is here for TFAtWS  - this might go well with my BBB  “Oh, hell no"  square - Steve trolling  Bucky & Sam by sending the old man in with his shield?  (moodboard & ficlet?)  

* N1 - School AU/Teacher AU  - if I decide to continue on with Technicalities   - I could fill this square  :: ponders::

* N3 - Online shopping - this might be fun as a crossover with BBB Thighs:  Sam buys a revealing swimsuit for Bucky as a gag that gets Steve in a tizzy.

* N4 - Soulmates -  got inspired by a dream to start a Stucky fantasy AU (magician!Steve/ensorcelled!Bucky) that @bill-longbow  is collaborating on with me.  This will also fill my Stucky Bingo AU: Supernatural square.  We’re currently sitting at 1640 words  (984-ish of which are mine). Current Last Line:  "My men will accompany you back to Brookline in the morning.”

* N5 - Checkers  - posted Chapter 2 of  Come Down From Your Fences  (And Open the Gate)  It came in  962 words - see if you can spot the (slightly altered) movie quote!  

* G4 - Canon Divergence post CA:TWS - possible  crossover with BBB  Kill List – Bucky wreaking havoc on Hydra bases and  Steve & Sam catch up with him

* G5 - Friends to Lovers -  might use this for Chapter 3 of Mutual Pinning

*  O2 - Sex Pollen  -  Teenage Groot pollen =  aphrodisiac  hi-jinks. Quill & Gamora  warn the  couple (stucky)/throuple (Stuckony)  ahead of time, so no  dub-con.

* O3 - Hawkeye/Clint Barton  -  see AvB - Friends w/ Benefits  above.

StarkBucks Bingo - Round 3  (SBB_R3) - Ends 31 Dec

Eleven fills (eight posted to Ao3), 2 WIPs and several Vague Ideas - soliciting plot bunnies or other kick-starters.

* B1 - “I wouldn’t mind wasting my time on you.“  - Possible crossover with  BBB - KINK: Seduction Mission?  

* I2 - Mistaken Identity - crossover with TSB K5 - Protectiveness -  “The Mechanic, The Soldier & The Artist” - mob/assassin AU with a Mr. & Mrs. Smith twist?  

* I4 - Canon: Avengers Academy  - will probably do Stuffed Marvels sketches of Tony and Winter, as I know very little about the game/canon.  

* I5 - Matchmaker Bots - possible crossover with TSB Occupational Hazard

* N2 - Blanket - the first draft of  Chapter 2 of  Borrowing Trouble (see O3 below) is done; it’s a crossover with my BBB Funeral  and TSB WinterIron  squares and is currently coming in at 1187 words.  Chapter 1 is scheduled to post on Friday, with Chapter 2 following probably on 12/2.

* N5 - “Wanna make a bet?”  Used this in combination with the Day 18  Fictober (“I don’t think this is your problem.”)  and Flufftober  (Soulmate AU) prompts for  Marked-Up Soulmarks  - a soulmate AU where Tony discovers he and Steve have something (and someone) in common. I may expand on this before posting it to Ao3 and/or claiming it as an official fill. Currently coming in at 418 words.

* O1 - Royalty - crossover with TSB - IronWidow  &  BBB   AU: Arranged Marriage -  pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion  back up?

* O3 - “Shh… I’m sleeping.”   Posted Borrowing Trouble to Tumblr  on  11/4 - it crosses over with my TSB AU: College square as well as #FFF175 Gloomy Daze.  It came in at 875 words and is scheduled to be posted Friday, with a second/final chapter on its way the following week. 

* O6 - AU: Biker  - Grease 2  fusion  anyone?  😁  I watched the movie a couple of weeks ago and took notes -  It’s not gonna be a faithful adaptation, but hopefully fun - had another mini-brainstorm on this  & hope to get it started sometime this/next week.  Would love to collab with someone who has an AU:  High School, Identity Porn and/or Mutual Pining square on their TSB, BBB or SBB cards!

Hero Hardships Bingo  [HHB]  (Runs thru 31 Dec)

One fill so far  with a few Vague Ideas …  need to see what might play well with belated Whumptober prompts!

* I3 - Unimaginable Grief  – I‘m thinking an post-Endgame Rhodey POV would work nicely here…

* O3 - Dating a civilian -  this would fit perfectly with another chapter of Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) , for which I currently have a basic plot point or two rolling around in my head.

* U4 - AU: Arranged Marriage - will probably pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion  back up for this one.

* B4 - Artist/Muse - posted  A Work of Heart to Tumblr  on 10/29.  It came in at  at 650 words and filled Day 29 of   Fictober (”You love this, don’t you?”) , Flufftober (Leaves) and Whumptober (”Better me than you.”)  Coming to Ao3 before the end of the year.

* I1 -  1930′s - I posted  Casting Bread Upon the Waters   to Ao3 this morning. It’s a pre-war platonic Stucky ficlet  as a crossover with Comfortember Day 3: Warm Food, as well as this month’s bingo challenge - Cooking/Baking and came in at 456 words.

* O4 - AU: Supernatural - see MWAPB Soulmates  above.

* O5 - Innocence - used this for my addition (346 words) to the Stucky Bingo November 2022 Round Robin that was posted 11/18 -  It’s a super-cute accidental kidfic fic with bonus fanart.

I also adopted the Writing Format: Remix one of your fics  square  – am thinking of taking one of my Stony or WinterIron  No Powers fics and adapting it to a Stucky pairing – if you have any requests - hit me up!

On other creative fronts:  I have a Nadja (from What We Do in the Shadows) Stuffed With Character figure in progress. Am also finalizing the seven (!!!)  figures to create for my three Marvel Trumps Hate  auction winners – thanks so much for your generous support!!  Finally, I am prepping for a superhero con in March - so am pretty well booked up through at least the end of the year.
