since i just hit 2k followers, and i've been pretty much inactive for the better part of a year, it just makes sense for me to do a writeblr re-intro to become reacquainted with the community, so here it is :)

I love consuming thoughtful media (Substack articles, video essays, other people's writing, etc.)

Favorite book is Vicious by V.E. Schwab (you kind of have to read it to get why)

I love music; I'm a very big Brent Faiyaz fan, but I'll listen to anything

I used to write bad fanfic on the side

I really like watching anime: my current favorite is Wind Breaker (I'm very big on shonen)

I've been writing since I was 8

I dabble in whatever interests me, so I don't write just a specific genre, but at the moment, I'm really into mystery!

My writing typically has themes of loss, grief, and past memories—y'know, all that warm, fuzzy stuff that people love to read lmao

I do also like romance sub-plots

I also love character development, so you might see me screaming into the void about them every now and then lol

Due to personal circumstances, I fell out of love with the craft for a long period of time, and now I'm trying to find my footing again by resetting. As part of my reset, I'm distancing myself from my older, longer projects and instead focusing on short, fun works that don't drain me to. I might go back to those old projects, but for now, I'm working on a mystery novelette (you can find the info for it here!!) but if you're still interested in learning about my old wips, you can find them here and visit their specific tags!

Presenting to you my writing cycle

Reedsy Editor - no longer free.

Reedsy Book Editor - the editing program I use for outlining, editing and keeping track of everything from characters, locations, lore, offhanded details and detailed overarching plotlines in all my writing - just overnight changed everything from a free service, into a tiered paid premium subscription, WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER.

Naturally, they have some stuff that is the "free tier"; and if they had given any warning - even if it was some vague email the day before implementing this - this wouldn't be as infuriating, but I suppose that was just asking too much?

Why give me a chance consider it, when they could just lock my work behind a paywall, and then refuse to even let me LOOK at my own notes?

What they've done is market themselves as a free service that will implement unspecified 'future premium features', and I quote their website directly:

"Is Studio free to use?: Yes! Reedsy Studio is currently 100% free. There will be premium features available for purchase in the future, but they are optional. Every functionality that you need to write a book in Reedsy Studio will remain free."

They then locked most of my stuff behind a paid premium, without ever hinting at their *already free* features being those 'optional premium features available for purchase'. Once again, no warning what-so-ever.

Not only have they now essentially locked my stuff behind a premium of 4.99 USD a month, oh no, they've been so kind as to lock the sole reasons I ever started using them for it's sheer convenience, the unlimited storyboards and pinned notes, behind a 7.99 USD add-on tier. Interestingly enough, they've split their features into two tiers, so if you want the full functionality that was free as late as yesterday, - such as statistics, goals or pinned notes - well, then you have to subscribe to both tiers.

Which means, I will now have a 7-day free trial to get all my stuff out of there, unless I want to start paying for another goddamn subscription fee.

I'm not all that happy to be strongarmed into a paid subcription, and I certainly don't trust that they won't just randomly hike the pricing or change the features included in the paid tiers in future, if this is how they implement it to begin with.

It's so blatantly obvious they've made this shift after receiving positive feedback from users, because I am wholly unsurprised that the *very same features* that made Reedsy Studio into one of the more easy-to-recommend programs (pinned notes, storyboarding, boards) have been locked behind the most expensive add-on tier. And I know a lot of people love their statistics and goals features aswell, although I personally don't use it, so them being behind a paywall too doesn't surprise me either.

I'm not a fan of paid subscriptions, but in the past I have paid for services I deemed important enough to keep around, because I liked the program or the convenience of it. Key difference: I was made aware of the changes before they were implemented.

What I refuse to do however - no matter how good their editor is or how comfortable I am using it - is to pay to be given back my access to months upon months of my own work like this.

I'm extremely disappointed in how they went about implementing this change, it's shameful.

I will be using my 7-day free trial to get my writing out of there, and then never use Reedsy again.

I have a story idea that I am so excited about but I am too scared to start writing it because:

What if it sucks and doesn’t live up to the expectations in my head

What if that then tarnishes the idea and I fall out of love with it or forget where it was supposed to go

How on earth do people take a burning idea and then make it as good, if not better, on the page?!

It follows Lyvia—a composed, distant high school student—who unknowingly becomes the obsession of Seth, a deceptively charming and disturbed classmate. Their meeting is anything but normal. They are introduced to each other through a school shooting, where Seth, one of the perpetrators, sees Lyvia standing in the hallway, frozen with fear as she stares straight ahead at Seth's friend, the other shooter. Seth throws himself on top of her in an attempt to protect her, and this single action leads to a series of murders at their school.

Following the shooting, Lyvia struggles to maintain a sense of normalcy—her relationship with her friends become strained, her performance in school decreases, and her mental state deteriorates—while Seth slowly integrates himself into her life, offering support and comfort. Lyvia begins to rely on this, seeking stability in his kindness.

As they get closer, serial murders begin to start up at their school. Initially, they seem disconnected, random—a crime committed for nothing other than sheer thrill. But in actuality, Seth, with the help of his friend from earlier, is the ones instigating all of the murders, as a twisted act of affection. Driven by his obsession with protecting and possessing Lyvia, he's taken it upon himself to eliminate who makes Lyvia unhappy in some way, regardless of who they are. Unaware of this, she tries to investigate the murders on her own, with Seth's help, against all word of caution from her friends and her sister.

It isn't until Seth crosses a line in his murders, killing Lyvia's best friend, that Lyvia begins to spiral, throwing herself into solving the mystery in search of answers. Meanwhile, Seth's carefully crafted exterior slowly slips away—his behavior becomes more erratic and possessive, his alibis become inconsistent, and the evidence against him becomes substantial.

Eventually, Lyvia confronts Seth, who calmly admits to his crimes, explaining that it was done out of love for her. Lyvia is both afraid yet touched as Seth reassures her, framing his actions as the ultimate, purest form of devotion, leaving Lyvia with one decision: whether to turn him in, or live with his secret.

i haven’t written in a cool minute, and lately i’ve just been going through my drafts for inspiration, and i found this story that’s a psychological thriller, with elements of romance and mystery, which lowkey sparked my inspiration. i’m debating whether i should start it—if i do, i probably won’t finish and if i do finish, it’ll be short. i might start posting snippets and intros and stuff for this project while holding back on my other wips too so like…if anyone cares or is interested, tell me? i want to see if there’s enough intrigue for me to commit to it 😭
