i had to pause a movie yesterday and contemplate life because a m/m pairing of MAIN characters in a movie was NOT subtext and it seriously threw me for a loop

i had even informed my husband before hand that these two characters were gay and in love but i wasn’t sure if they were gonna be straight forward with it or leave it as subtext

and then the FIRST thing the one main character says about the other is that he fell in love with him

and i just…

and then i was like CLEAR TEXT?!?!

The show will have Castiel say something like "I love.... humanity" while making awkward eye contact with Dean. followed by a closeup of just Dean specifically. and then frame them standing right next to each other. and people will still be surprised when the angel comes out as gay

sacred and profane love (1603) by giovanni baglioni // supernatural 8.17 “goodbye stranger”

giovanni baglioni painted sacred and profane love in response to caravaggio’s 1602 painting, amor vincit omnia (“love conquers all”). amor vincit omnia depicts a young cupid and is considered to be a representation of homoeroticism. even in his own time, caravaggio was well known for having affairs with the boys he painted. 

as a rival artist, baglioni aimed to insult caravaggio by painting a warrior angel (sacred love) smiting the same homoerotic cupid seen in amor vincit omnia (profane love). sacred and profane love is an admonishment against caravaggio’s homosexuality and serves as an analogy for christian morality defeating queer love.
