Do You Know This (non-canon) Autistic Character?
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
The short reason: he's straight up a batman expy and batman is autistic.
The long reason: Diluc exhibits a lot of autistic traits and behaviours. He has a strong sense of justice (fueling his vigilante behaviour), and often exhibits black and white thinking. He also has some social differences, such as disliking small talk and going out of his way to avoid it. He can also be interpreted as having some sensory differences (for example, he dislikes alcohol due to mouth feel). He also has a lot of obsessive tendancies. Like, a LOT.

Propaganda:
So intensely focused on her drawing that she neglected building healthy social relationships for years (didn't even notice when her blunt-ass autistic rizz was making everyone in a 5 meter radius fall in love with her over the course of a decade).
The drawing definitely feels like a hyperfixation she got as a kid that evolved into a lifelong splintered. But now that she's an adult, she feels stunted, creatively and socially. She's also stubborn as Hell and intent on doing everything alone, her way.
It takes a whole-ass isekai experience for her to slowly change and start letting people in. For everyone's reference, episode 7 in particular presented Natsuko in an incredibly autistic light.

[Two submissions with different propaganda for same character sent close together]
Propaganda:
One of the readings of Ena is that she is autistic. Aside from her finding people overwhelming ("I don't like this party... I'm allergic to people!"), the loud and glitchy appearance of the world, the sometimes discordant sounds, and the disorienting labyrinths, can be interpreted as expressing the feeling of sensory overstimulation.
Ena has meltdowns when she gets too upset, turning white or grey. She talks in an idiosyncratic way, that initially seems nonsensical or random but makes sense to her. Sometimes people are hostile to her for reasons Ena doesn't understand.
In Power of Potluck, Ena tries to understand fun, with her sad side replaced with a grinning blue mask, while her happy side doesn't understand what other people and the mask think is fun ("These twists and turns are getting odd. Or... am I the one the rhythm can't catch? This notion of happiness is quite strange." "Every time, I acknowledged the enjoyment and pleasure and all I got were incomprehensible feelings and this lousy mask!"). This can be seen as symbolising autistic masking.
Any other details:
Ena is a kind of being, this Ena and the Ena from Dream BBQ are different characters.
SECOND SUBMISSIONS FROM I THINK A DIFFERENT PERSON:
Propaganda:
There are a lot of interpretations for what's going on with ENA, but her being autistic is one such common interpretation. Evidence being, that she feels disconnected from the already strange reality around her, often having breakdowns/meltdowns in the face of it, sometimes to the point where she ceases to be able to talk at all - which, her friend Moony doesn't seem to understand her and why she has these emotions, but that's another thing - and is generally often disliked by people for unclear reasons - ableism possibly being one of them.
And in Power of Potluck, this culminates in her straight up donning a 'mask' - which could be a metaphor for masking depression, but just as well could be a stand in for autistic masking - as she behaves in a notably subdued manner and explores her struggles with feeling joy the way other people do. She also moves a lot, always waving her arms or spinning around, and talks with peculiar speech patterns - either overly formal as her happy side, or more childishly as her sad side.
People in the fandom have also sometimes described her breakdowns as 'tantrums', which feels very reminiscent of how people irl talk about autistic people having unpalatable emotions.... also, there's another version of ENA that's from the game ENA: Dream BBQ, and she very well could have autism as well, but I feel like there's a lot going on with her mental illness wise on top of it, so I went with classic ENA instead, as I feel like she's a more straightforward depiction of an autistic character (not that one is better or worse than the other).

Do You Know This (non-canon) Autistic Character?
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Cyno has a special interest in genius invokation tcg, a card game and light novel in the genshin impact universe (it's basically Yu-Gi-Oh lol). He brings it up at least once during almost every quest he appears in. Sometimes he's trying to get his friends to play a few rounds with him, sometimes he's talking about a previous round he played, and sometimes he just references the light novel unprompted. His love of genius invokation is a core part of his character.
He also exhibits a fair amount of social difficulty. Due to his job and general stoic demeanor, most people are somewhat scared of him. So to lighten the mood, he likes to tell jokes. Really unfunny jokes. And if the joke doesn't get a laugh, he'll give a highly detailed explanation of the joke. In his own words, he's "not the best judge of other people's sense of humor."
He also has a very strong sense of justice, which he upholds through his job as general mahamatra (he is, unfortunately, a cop). Some of his obsessive tendancies show at work too.
He also exhibits behaviour which could be seen as masking. When the main character first meets Cyno, he acts quite differently. While he still has the same stoic demeanor and obsession with justice, he doesn't really make any jokes, or talk about tcg at all. Later, the main character learns they met Cyno in "work mode". As they get to know him better, he starts talking about his special interest, making terrible jokes, and generally starts acting more like himself. This ends up reading a lot like an autistic man opening up and unmasking once he's more comfortable around someone.

Propaganda:
~This includes spoilers for S4 of Attack on Titan. ~
- Does not ”read the room”, does not notice subtle expressions in others like when others are uncomfortable with the topics she brings up. Falco’s feelings for her completely fly over her head, and she doesn’t pick up on the cues that show why he wants to be a warrior.
- Lacks some empathy to an extent where she can be mistaken for a sadist. Doesn’t feel any emotional conflict when killing others, nor does she empathize with other’s problems. (I don’t mean that autistic people are sadists, murderers or the like though lol)
- She seems to like sticking to one set of rules and doesn’t like changing her methods or how she views the world.
I feel the need to add a disclaimer that the empathy & rules part are part of the indoctrination of course, not just autistic traits.

Propaganda:
- Has very deep knowledge about certain subjects for his age (6), particularly The Great Pumpkin, the Bible, as well as baseball
- Carries a security blanket with him everywhere and gets increasingly distressed whenever it’s somewhere else
– regardless of whether it’s done maliciously or it needed to be washed
- Often shown sitting with the security blanket to his ear and sucking on his thumb, which could be read as stimming
- There’s a strip where he says that ”eating toast is like getting away for the weekend" because the crunching deafens the noise of his sister trying to talk to him

Propaganda:
I’d say it’s canon at least, bc the people in the shadowhunter world don’t know what autism (or anything neurodivergent) is, but there is one character who comes from outside the “community” that does say it. To quote Kit, “Ty isn't weird. He's just autistic. it's not a big deal. Back when I went to mundane school, I knew some kids who were on the spectrum. Ty has some things in common with them.”
And the author has talked about it as well, and explained it as the characters not knowing about autism, but her intention while writing was that Ty was autistic (this post).
He struggles with social codes, struggle with changes, has a few different stims you see regularly throughout the series, very sensitive to esp sounds.

Propaganda:
Note: In season 3 he claims to not have any living relatives left. It’s left ambiguous when and how he lost those he knew of, but I'll accept your judgement if you think that that is a more likely explanation for his traits.
Wears identical sets of clothing every day. Also keeps his cap on all the time, even while sleeping in tents. While expressive, he can’t force faces. In S2E8 he gets told ”Come on, look a little happy” for a photo and ends up doing a literal )-shape with his mouth, rather than the genuine smile he had moments earlier.
Kind, generous, and very trusting. Despite this, his social circle on-screen is always limited to one or two people. Only seen at a social group event (dancing) twice, both times because Mortensen convinced him. Appears particularly uncomfortable the second time (S2E8), when they are at a louder venue and he also has to pick his own dance partner.
Even after discovering that he *does* enjoy visiting the great outdoors, it takes either a supernatural vision/dream (S2) or the opportunity to delve further into his interests (S3 and S4?) to convince him to leave his home again.
100% focused on solving the geography riddles he is tasked to solve: usually reading from his sources during meal breaks, will interrupt or leave conversations abruptly if he’s figured out where to go next, et.c.
In S3E1 he also describes spending the last year researching his family’s history in his spare time, and only goes on a vacation so he can read more about an ancestor who ”got stuck in my head”. (However, not enough info to determine strong interests that have stayed with him since childhood.)
Hinted to have ’childish’ food tastes. In S1 he often compares his surroundings to sweets or baked goods in his inner monologue; while he's quit this by S2, he's always shown sipping on lemonade (or milk) whenever Mortensen has a beer.
Any other details:
I didn't really go into how he's depicted in S1 since the season is a lot goofier overall than later ones, so some traits (like occasional poor volume control) don't carry over at all.

Propaganda:
He's always stimming, sits in weird positions+walks weirdly, has trouble with social cues, is prone to saying strange things, has very few social boundaries, infodumps about his hyperfixations every two seconds, is referred to as 'strange' by other characters, and, by his own word, "can't focus on two things at once."

How long would you like people to wait before submitting multiple characters from the same media?
You can submit characters from the same media one after the other, that is fine. We will however not post them in order sent, so that we don't see 5 characters from the same show one after the other.

Propaganda:
Strong sense of justice leads to him taking extreme measures to expose the truth, is shown stimming when excited, poor volume control (frequently speaks too loudly, especially when excited), comes across as blunt, seems to struggle socially/struggle with behaving in a socially acceptable way, strugggles with expressing emotions, other characters comment on him being eccentric.

Propaganda:
- Extremely proficient in one area, but lacks necessary skills in most others. For instance, Mathilda – who’s 12 – decides to teach him how to read.
- Strict moral standards: Granted, he’s a professional assassin, but refuses to take jobs that involve hurting women or children. He is also vocally against using swear words, and calls Mathilda out for her bad language.
- Very limited social skills; is shown barely able to hold a conversation with a hotel concierge.
- Limited diet: has a strong preference for drinking milk.

Propaganda:
Kokomi is a divine priestess and supreme leader of an autonomous island. And while she is an expert strategist and war planner, she struggles significantly more with the social side of leadership.
She started reading military treaties and books as a young child, and has always had both a knack for strategy and a fascination with it. She still enjoys reading this kind of thing now. Military strategy seems to be a special interest for her.
Kokomi frequently ends up burning herself out by taking on too much. In particular, she finds the communication and social aspects of leadership incredibly draining. All she really wants to do is be a strategic advisor. When she runs out of energy, she had a spot where she hides to try and recuperate. One of the ways she does this is reading military strategy.
She also has a notebook where she keeps track of her exact energy level throughout the day.
For example:
Today, I finished a day's worth of work. Energy −3.
The wind is very strong outside. Energy −2.
News of the peace talks reached us today. Energy +2.
This approach of quantifying energy level is very similar to actual ways adults in my life tried to help me manage my own autism when I was a child.

Propaganda:
Werner is very quiet and deadpan for a lot of the game and fixates heavily on his work, not really paying much mind to anything else. He voices that his actual emotions are heavily misunderstood by others because of the way he is, and he cannot change it. He also quite literally says "my brain doesn't work like other people's" at one point because he took something so literally it caused an explosion.

Propaganda:
It is stated at the top of the show that she, along with almost everyone else in the cast, are autistic just like their characters.
Any other details:
Her special interest is Facts and Australia, and she doesn’t like to be touched. She expresses a dislike of the noisy diner and is implied to have certain food aversions (“I told them, no pickles!”) and is very withdrawn, often answering uncomfortable questions with a fact.
Also, re: picture— she’s the one in a blue hoodie sitting at the desk.

Propaganda:
Inflexible thinking in his adherence to the creed (and a strong sense of justice surrounding it), strong preference for his routine and finding comfort in it, spends his life as an outcast. Doesn't speak much, spends most of his time wearing a helmet (a mask) and when he's forced to remove, it he struggles to make eye contact and interact with people in conversation (and is visibly uncomfortable).
