What was Laios thinking when he offered to go in Falin's place? Was he just trying to skip out on his kingly duties? Did he want to become a ninja/samurai? Was he trying to marry Shuro? While he'd probably enjoy visiting, I don't think he'd like to live in Toshiro's homeland. It being a hierarchical, high context culture. (I'd love a blue-ray 'what if' extra showing what would happen with the next season)
(Extra being referenced here)
He wants to go marry Shuro ofc! (I wish)
Actual answer is that I'm pretty sure he just wants to see the eastern archipelago and the monsters that live there, I think he wouldn't just want to live there? "I wanna go there too" is probably in the same meaning as Falin. Or maybe he would want to stay if he didn't have Melini to go back to?
I doubt there would be an 'what if' about this since it's an extra from the AB and not in the main story 😔That would be fun tho

Late in the series Chill says Marcille's mom is a court mage; was that mentioned before and I missed it? Also it seemed a little odd since it's kinda a plot point/problem that no one knew much about her past/childhood and Chill actively avoids getting to know the team. Maybe he did a background check on everyone, on top of demanding payment up front, to avoid being used as monster bait?
Yes it's mentioned in chapter 17! (I also forgot tbf, had to check the wiki)
It's a little fuzzy since it happens in a flashback but it's implied the flashback is what Marcille is telling the party about her past, so the bit about her parents is probably something she told them too
Here's how the flashback finishes
I also thought it was weird she said her "parents" and went to check the original, the word she uses is 親, I think that can be read in singular? Cause only her mother is a court magician, there was no way for the translators to know that back in ch17 tho and "parents" on plural seems the common translation? Especially in that context. Maybe marcille was vague on purpose? Or maybe Kui hadn't decided only her mom was a court magician yet?
Sorry for the tangent, I also I assume the half-foot guild has safety measures to ensure the people hiring half-foots there aren't gonna use them as bait? So I doubt he would do personal background checks that in dept, that would probably be very tiresome to do every time you take a job.

If Falin and company left right away via return scroll could she live a normal life? Would Thistle's control over her reestablish if she returned to the dungeon? Or is that permanently severed once they leave? Haven't seen any official-ish answers for this.
Do you mean if they had managed to leave right after resurrecting her? I believe the magic would have been severed yes and I don't think going back in would make it active again since the connection with the dungeon would have been severed I imagine whatever spell thistle had in the dragon would be undone too and have to be done again?
I'm mostly basing it on the fact that dungeon lords stop being dungeon lords once they're removed from the dungeon, and the fact that if you die and even a bit of you is out of the dungeon you can no longer be resurrected.
My train of thought is that if the spell binding you to your body is undone when you leave the dungeon the spell that binds the bit of dragon soul inside Falin would probably be undone too? And so it wouldn't be able to go back to the original dragon anyway and the spell Thistle had on it probably wouldn't count?? Actually the dragon soul itself might escape the dungeon from Falin leaving if it works like that drawing of the little ghost going "goodbye~"
That's my assumption, I don't remember if there's something more specific that could answer this.

So I'm just gonna ramble for a while cause I was thinking about it while editing the 5 key words post for Izutsumi, so beware this isn't really well structured and more of a stream of consciousness
You know how some monsters in dungeon meshi are just "big" versions of a normal animal? Like the Big Bat and the Huge Scorpion, both of them have the same "大" kanji in from of their names that translates to big/huge. Huge Scorpion (大サソリ) Big Bat (大蝙蝠) and that is also used for the monster that is part of Izutsumi (大猫), But Yen press translated it as "greater cat" which to me gives it a different impression?
The notes at the end of the EHScans version says the Oneko is based on a creature from japanese folklore of the same name but I'm not sure if it's really inspired on it after trying to read up the wiki page with google translate, or if it's just meant to be a literal big cat
Either way! These creatures kinda blur even more the definition of whats even a monster I think, cause other than being big they don't have that much going on? Dire wolves and Wargs too, other than being bigger than "normal" animals they're just animals
Which raises more questions about what counts as a monster in that world, the glossary says in general monsters are "creatures that need mana (magic energy) in order to be active" and it's a very vague definition
So it makes me wonder, since the 'Big Cat' fused with Izutsumi (that to me looks like a normal panther/generic big cat) is already a monster would a normal irl tiger in dunmeshi world be a monster too? Are weretigers and werebears just fused to (what we would consider) normal tigers and bears?
But there's the aspect that "normal animals" aren't that aggressive to humans, which is true irl, they're just living their lives even if they can harm humans, so maybe the influence of magic in the monsters that makes them attack humans? Or perhaps is something that only happens inside dungeons and that people assume it's true outside of them too? (Like how we assume predators are aggressive irl tbh)
Although even inside the dungeon that's doubtful, they ARE there to protect the dungeon following the wishes of the Dungeon Lord (we can assume) but like, the living armors were just chilling unless people approached them and the Bicorn doesn't want to fight Laios party at all and even flees
Isn't THAT just an animal? (Although the bicorn does have magical abilities but humans can use magic too, are humans monsters?)
Anyway I'm not trying to make any points, much to think about.

I note Laios had no interest in cannibalizing Kabru's party despite having multiple opportunities. Did he take a bite out of someone else when no one was looking?
LMAO hello,
I assume you mean what I said here
Sorry, I guess it does sound like I mean he just eats people, I meant he doesn't seem to have anything against eating people? And that's something that shows up as early as chapter 2 where one of the monster he considers eating is a demihuman
And shows up again in the merman chapter where he doesn't understand why eating something that acts human is strange, he even argues with Chilchuck that mermen aren't demihumans to convince him to eat them
He thinks people's issue with cannibalism is how biologically related to us they are, which as a specific definition he isn't wrong, but biology is not why we're squeamish about the idea of cannibalism is it?
And that's not even mentioning the point where the anime left off, he has 0 qualms about eating Falin everyone else is horrified but Laios is just a little shocked, he does wonder a little about cannibalism on chapter 1 but when Senshi says eating the dragon part will save Falin he only worries about the logistics of it
That's what I meant with "cannibalism" it was half a joke half serious, you can argue eating demihumans isn't cannibalism cause they're another species and even when it's about eating Falin you can argue it's not actually cannibalism cause they're eating the dragon half and not the human half but you gotta admit that side of him is his freakier side right?
I personally have nothing against it, I think Laios correct and normal, but I am aware that's not how most people would see it lmao
Edit: Ah just to be extra clear cause I remembered the website I'm in: I don't think Laios would just eat a person, that is really not what I mean by all this, Laios wouldn't just randomly eat anything, he's not THAT freaky. I mean cannibalism as a concept doesn't seem to put him off that much but that's true for a lot of people who would not just bite someone, that's a completely different subject, that includes harming someone, he wouldn't just do that

Dear Master Meshi, in Ch 57 after the dullahan leaves, Marcille rushes back in holding what appears to be, Izutsumi's tail. Why is she holding it? Why is Izutsumi allowing it?? She couldn't be dragging her in by her tail could she???
She indeed is dragging Izutsumi in by the tail 😭
Izutsumi was probably the first one to run from the Dullahan and probably didn't want to come back, as you can see by the puffy tail (cats puff up when scared). So most likely this is just a gag to show that everyone was rushing back to check on Laios after the dullahan left but Izutsumi had to be dragged in. She's probably only "allowing it" cause she's busy trying to flee back into the other room
But pulling cats by the tail is very bad don't do it irl, at the very least you'll stress them out and in the worst case you might accidentally hurt them badly and cause injury, cat tails aren't made to be pulled.
It is in character for Marcille to do it tho, I doubt she realizes she might hurt Izu, and it's just supposed to be a joke I'm pretty sure, idk, maybe the human dna makes the tail stronger lmao

Who in Dungeon Meshi would be Drift Compatible*? I was thinking that Laios would probably be good at fighting giant city destroying monsters but would struggle to find people he could pilot a giant robot with. (This is in reference to the Pacific Rim movies)
Maybe he could do it with Falin? They work well together and I feel like they understand each other for the most part? (Although there is a gap in that understanding)
I haven't watched Pacific Rim in a long time so idk, I was gonna say Fleki and Lycion but maybe not? I don't really remember much about how drift compatibility works.
