Well, I loved Snow White new movie ☺️

I am very sad that the criticism and the negative reviews of Snow White live action don't cease to stop. I understand the production was surrounded by polemics, but I wish people would see the movie and rate it for itself, not for how much they agree or don't with some comments or decisions made by the cast or the crew...

I loved all the songs and the movie it's visually very pretty. The animation and the backgrounds are incredible and I love the colors and the composition.

I also think that switching the original prince for a character like Jonathan was a very smart move. Not because it changes a lot the 5 min romance compared to the original. Neither because I think it being a prince is a particular defect. But I think they use Jonathan character to tie some details that make more sense in the new movie:

Snow White first meets Jonathan when he steals from the queen and when they capture him, she sets him free. The queen sees it and it uses this to justify asking the hunter to kill Snow. It's just a sentence, but "she set a rebel free, so she's plotting against me" is a more solid reason to ask for a murder than "just kill her, please".

Then they interact in the "princess problems" song. Which is subjectively super funny and I loved it, but is objectively a bit more of interaction before falling in love, compared to the original.

Then Jonathan gets hurt and Snow takes him to the dwarfs so that Doc can heal him. I think this gives purpose and relevance to the dwarfs. Not that they need it, because they are part of the legacy of the original movie. But I still think it's a nice touch.

And finally, when Jonathan and Snow agree to be separated and meet a few days later, she gives him her necklace. Necklace that the queen uses to convince Snow to trust her when she gives her the poisoned apple.

And I don't really think they introduced any other substantial change to the plot.

I have mixed feelings with the dwarfs, for example. They really remind me of the originals and I don't think that being made with CGI lowers the quality of the movie (heigh-ho song is also very pretty with the shines in the mines and all). But morally.... I do have to say that I agree that it was not the best choice. Like, in my opinion you're marginalising people with dwarfism way more if you deny them this opportunity than if you cast them by their condition. But again. I enjoyed the movie either way.

I know it's going to be very hard to believe, with the huge amount of negative criticism that the movie is getting. But... Give Snow White a shot. If you like the original movie, if you like musicals or if you like happy stories with happy endings, it's totally worth it.

And if then you don't like it, well, at least you can tell after watching it.
