In Honor of both my Uncles George and Doug Macdonald who gave their lives in service of our country, Canada. George Macdonald had heard that his brother Doug had been wounded in the fighting during the ‘Operation Vertable in Holland in February of 1945. Doug was fighting in a separate regiment from George as it was common practice to not have brothers serve together. George was driven to get to his brother’s side, however in doing so he was shot and killed. Doug ultimately passed of a heart attack after the war as a result of his injuries he sustained in the war. George was laid to rest at GROESBEEK, the Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium. There are 2331 Canadian soldiers at rest at GROESBEEK, many who had passed while fighting in Germany and later brought to GROESBEEK as to not rest on enemy grounds.
