Also, a note from Julianna:

I promised accessibility and I will be holding to that, but it looks like transcripts will likely follow post-season because it's been very hard to do by myself, especially when the past few months have involved multiple health crises for me (including one near-death experience, oops).

I understand this isn't fair to deaf and hard of hearing potential audiences but I again ask that everyone please understand this is a project we do in our limited free time and we remain committed to providing transcripts because we recognize the importance and want to ensure anyone who could want to partake in our show has the opportunity, but it is a lot more difficult and time consuming than I anticipated and has become very overwhelming for one physically disabled, mentally ill, neurodivergent individual to try to do week to week.

Turns out transcribing takes me at least three times as long as the length of an episode, and when episodes average over an hour each…well. I've already spent almost two hours working on the first episode and that one isn't even a whole hour long, so please know that these are coming but life needs to calm down and I need the chance to breathe with it as I go.

Anyway, thank everyone who has been consuming our show for doing so! We love this and we hope you're loving it, too!

Hey y’all, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am actively working on the transcriptions for the first two full episodes, as promised, but it’s taking a lot longer and is a lot more intensive than I had anticipated.

As someone who is disabled and even has auditory processing and mild hearing issues, myself, I absolutely understand the importance of making our work accessible and I am not going back on that promise. I sincerely apologize for the delay and unfortunately cannot guarantee such delays will not be a regular occurrence, but the transcriptions are coming. But we are just two people doing this for fun in our free time who both work full time (Keerstan actually works more than full time, even) and have a lot going on in our general lives, including the fact I’ve been dealing lately with various health crises and things on that front are…uh, not going well.

In the meantime, if you do not need the podcast to be transcribed, do please head over to Apple Podcasts and/or Spotify to check out what’s up so far. And if you do, or even if you personally don’t, continue to watch this space as—just as with the trailer—this is where all transcripts will be posted.

Julianna and Keerstan move on from old podcast Scenario Store News into the world of a new Avatar discussion show, starting Wednesday, September 1!

Julianna: Hello, I’m Julianna!

Keerstan: And I’m Keerstan… Wait. This isn’t our intro music. Where are we?

J: We’re at our new podcast, Ember Island Players. Our old podcast, Scenario Store News, was a lot of fun but…it was really intense.

K: Always looking for new news, new topics, every week with no break…

J: And we just needed a break. But we didn’t want to stop podcasting, and we especially didn’t want to stop podcasting together. So, with the old Sinister DreamCast Network transitioning to become the Modern Mythos Network, we thought maybe we should have a clean slate here, too. So we began brainstorming for a new podcast, and thus began our new project: Friendship Goals.

K: And then, the pandemic hit. Which, having only recorded one episode of Friendship Goals before the lockdown…eh, we kind of lost passion for the project.

J: But! Lucky for us, then the Avatar renaissance hit. And I told Keerstan that she needed to watch it—and especially during the pandemic, we all needed Uncle Iroh now more than ever—and lo and behold, once she did, she loved it. And…then we knew what we wanted our new podcast to be.

K: And thus began, the Ember Island Players! A podcast about Avatar, for Avatar fans! Each episode is broken down into segments.

J: Uncle Iroh’s Tea Corner starts us off, with Keerstan and I each picking out a delightful tea—and hopefully not a deadly poison—and we give our reviews of the tea of the episode.

K: And then we get into the star of the episode. We each say who we think stole the show. [obviously, comically fake coughing sounds] Sokka!

J: And then there are more surprises along the way in each fangirl-filled episode. There will be 16 episodes over 15 weeks this season, with the first two episodes coming out Wednesday, September 1, and a new episode coming out every Wednesday after.

K: We’ll also have a few very special episodes between seasons.

J: Each season of the podcast will coincide with a book of the show, going all the way through Legend of Korra. Which…Keerstan still really needs to watch…

K: And it…it’s on my list and I’m sure I’ll do it— So, umm, Julianna! How about those social medias!

J: We are on Twitter @EmberPod! And we are on Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook at emberislandplayerspod. The Tumblr is also where the episode transcriptions will be as those come out.

Hello!

This is Julianna, one half of Julianna and Keerstan, the hosts of this podcast!

As we are getting things together to work towards finally getting this baby launched, I just wanted to make a note about transcriptions.

One is that, yes, we will be transcribing our podcast, and transcriptions will be posted on this Tumblr!

Because accessibility is a matter of HONOR.

But we do also ask for patience in that regard because while we do understand that accessibility is important and should be non-negotiable, Keerstan and I will be doing the transcriptions ourselves and we both have ADHD and full time jobs (okay, well, while we’re still in the midst of a pandemic just Keerstan has a full time job, but I am expected to return to mine eventually). So just know we are committed to making this happen and it absolutely will, and we will be putting them out as quickly as we can but it may not be as quick as we want it to be.

Thank you for understanding and to those who will be consuming our podcast! We are super excited to get this kicked off and we hope everyone enjoys it as much as we’ve been enjoying doing it!
