Tarot Life Map- A Spread for Personal Assessment and Development

Ah, the Judgment card! After pulling it several times last week, I finally got the message. It’s time to take a step back and assess my life.
From a practical standpoint: Where have I been? Where am I headed? What do I really want out of life? And day-to-day, am I living in a way that will get me there?
Spiritually: Who am I and what am I supposed to accomplish with my life? What are my values and am I living in alignment with them?
Heavy stuff, without a doubt.
Hoping my tarot deck would offer some guidance, I designed The Life Map Spread to help me sort it all out.
Inner Circle- Core Values and Ideals (Cards 1-5)
The first five cards provide a framework for the reading- information about the subject’s life purpose (spirit) and key values as they pertain to areas of life represented by the four remaining elements. (Water=emotions and relationships; Earth= physical health, home and material resources; Fire= profession, hobbies and interests; Air= mental health, education and intellect).
Bottom line- these five cards lay out the subject’s life goal, as well as a corresponding objective for four key life areas.
All five of these cards should be pulled from the Major Arcana, as they represent significant life energies.
· Card 1- Ether (Spirit)- Overall life purpose or goal.
· Card 2- Water (Emotions/Relationships)-Key objective or core value pertaining to relationships and emotions.
· Card 3- Earth (Physical Health/Material Resources)- Key objective or core value relative to physical health, wealth and material goods.
· Card 4- Air (Mental Health/Intellect)- Key objective or core value related to mental health, education, intellect and decision-making.
· Card 5-Fire (Interests/Profession/Hobbies)- Key objective or core values in terms of career, interests and hobbies.
Outer Circle- The Reality of Every Day Life (Cards 6-17)
The Outer Circle cards depict reality, showing us how we are really living relative to each of the four life areas.
· Cards 6, 7, 8, & 9-past.
· Cards 10, 11, 12 & 13- present.
· Cards 14, 15, 16 & 17- near future (about six months out)
Major Arcana cards should be mixed and shuffled with the Minor Arcana before cards 7-17 are dealt. These should be a mix of both.
Analyzing the Cards
1. Compare the combined energy of the three outer circle cards for each element to its inner circle objective. Where is there alignment? Where are the disconnects?
2.Identify where the subject invests his energy. Major Arcana cards in the outer circle indicate an emphasis on that life area. Does that emphasis seem to align with his values? Is the investment paying off?
4. Look to the past for context. But otherwise, do not spend too much time there. Emphasis should be on the present and future cards- where we have power.
5. If there is a disconnect in the present, does it resolve itself in the future?
6. If not, consider pulling another card to offer guidance as to what can be done in the present to change the likely outcome and bring its energy into alignment with our goals and objectives.
7. If all else fails, consider whether goals and objectives are realistic. While the energy among the inner circle cards is difficult to influence or change, as a last resort we might consider whether our expectations are too high or our goals too lofty. In these cases, pull another card or two for advice.
What I really like about this spread is that it provides ample opportunity for customization, as well as serving as a possible springboard for future readings (exploring in more detail the energy within one of the elements, for example).
I will post the reading I did for myself using this spread in a bit- but I’d love your thoughts in the meantime!

They’ll know all the details of how bad you were hurt in the past and still decide to hurt you somehow. This is why I have trust issues. I’m done saying it couldn’t be me anymore “I been through it already” because it was in fact me again.

Hello! I have a question regarding tarot cards since I'm getting one soon,
How do I read it?
I've been told that you give meaning or that it's a story
BUT THERES ALSO MEANINGS TO EACH CARD?
Do I use the meaning of each card and somehow make a story?
Or
Do I just rely on the meaning of each card?
Oh that's an exciting time indeed! I remember when I got my first deck. Welcome to tarot dear.
How Do I Read Tarot? Is It A Story?
The major arcana tells a story that can be used to memorize the meanings of each individual card and see how they interact. The meanings of each card flow into the next, and it creates a story. It is both individual meanings and a story. I’ll provide links below where you can read a couple of versions of the story and it will make more sense. You do also give each card meaning based on the guidebook that comes with it, a variety of sources, your own intuition, or observations about the cards illustrations. You can weave the individual meanings together into a story or series of events or timings. You may prefer to do spreads with only one or a few cards, in which case you might prefer to break it up and focus on the cards individual meanings or the individual questions you asked. It all depends on your approach and preferences. The answer to your questions may be one, the other or both. Everyone approaches the tool that is tarot a bit differently. As far as how to read it and figure out how the heck those assigned keywords and such actually apply I can help with that too I think. I feel the best way to approach this is with an example. Let's say you ask about a job you've got. You want to know if you should quit or not or what the future of it looks like because you've been wondering about it. You're new, so you only pull one card. You pull death. Death is a major arcana card which refers to a major event in life. Many who don't do tarot assume in a lot of contexts death actually means death, like you're literally going to die. But tarot is very symbolic. It does not mean literal death, but what death stands for symbolically. A very common thing people attribute to the death card is endings, change and transformation. Death is a transformation. Now back to that reading! You might be asking well how the hell does that apply? You have to draw connections. Death in regards to a job likely means you will not be there long and will have to shift to something else. The job is ending, things are changing, and you are transforming. This is a major event. Hopefully you're getting it now. Of course you may have spreads with much more complicated questions or many more cards that will then interact. My hope is this will give you a very basic idea of how drawing those connections works so you can start practicing and slowly get a feel for it and how to apply this logic to more complicated divinatory readings.

How to Predict Timing with Tarot
When performing the Celtic Cross, there are three positions that can reveal when the event will happen: The Advice, The Ultimate Outcome, and The Underworld. Acknowledge all these possibilities. But your intuition will tell you which is most likely.
THE MAJOR ARCANA
The Fool – Whenever you are ready
The Magician – It has already begun
The High Priestess – You know exactly when
The Empress – During harvest season
The Emperor – It is almost done
The Hierophant – It is finished
The Lovers – As soon as you make the choice
The Chariot – In just a few moments
Strength – The minute you accept it
The Hermit – Only after you meditate on it
The Wheel of Fortune – During your first or next Saturn Return
Justice – When you least expect it
The Hanged Man – When the circumstances change
Death – Whenever it is ready
Temperance – After the storm
The Devil – It is happening right now
The Tower – Soon, unexpectedly and suddenly
The Star – The more you believe, the sooner it will happen
The Moon – It cannot be determined at the moment
The Sun – In the summer or by sunrise
Judgement – Soon and inevitably
The World – In divine timing

To Help You Remember:
Wands are days, because they are fire, and fire moves fast.
Swords are weeks, because while a sword is quick to cut, it first requires some thinking on the warrior’s part.
Cups are months, because they are water, and water flows with the moon, which completes a cycle in roughly a month.
Pentacles are seasons to years, because they are seeds, and some seeds only require a season to grow while others need a year.
The timings for the Major Arcana and the Pages are related to the cards’ meanings. Once you know the meanings, you know the timings.
The Kings, Queens and Knights are the Zodiac signs’ birthdays:
King of Wands – Leo (Fixed Fire)
Queen of Wands – Aries (Cardinal Fire)
Knight of Wands – Sagittarius (Mutable Fire)
King of Cups – Scorpio (Fixed Water)
Queen of Cups – Cancer (Cardinal Water)
Knight of Cups – Pisces (Mutable Water)
King of Swords – Aquarius (Fixed Air)
Queen of Swords – Libra (Cardinal Air)
Knight of Swords – Gemini (Mutable Air)
King of Pentacles – Taurus (Fixed Earth)
Queen of Pentacles – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth)
Knight of Pentacles – Virgo (Mutable Earth)
