Associte said it's Yuri Day, so a happy Yuri Day to the favourite pairing, and any others you consider. It is appreciable Skyla Elesa has a pretty reasonable foundation to interaction / narrative that the fanon's not so egregious, bless.

One appreciable contrast to the Skyla Elesa dynamic in Masters is how their general associates vary. Elesa has overall a wider range of other gym leaders she banters with, generally noted to be more stylish and influential individuals (including Iono and Valerie). Skyla has less overall interaction but generally a more tight knit aesthetic unity, fixating more on chaps with the same type focus as her (including Kahili). It's a fitting trend for their character, as obviously supermodel Elesa will have an easy time collaborating with other women accomplished in show business and aesthetic presentation, whilst pilot Skyla has a more down-to-earth and casual take. Better still to their own duo dynamic, given Skyla and Elesa's own friendship is insightful to how they mutually support and uplift each other. Always offers good possibility for further character banter. In terms of interaction, Skyla and Elesa obviously have each other (more so than any other duo among gym leaders) as foremost ranked, but in second place Skyla has Winona and Elesa has Sabrina, fitting to the trend.

For the muse today, I've recreated the concept of the small leviathan Piragill, introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds, as a piscine wyvern. Piragill has a nice design for a small monster, though my gripe is that it's a missed opportunity to add a piscine wyvern form to Wilds, which currently has known, instead adding them to leviathans, which I feel have enough overt representation right now. And some notes now on this new form.

I am ecstatic to present an improved rendition of prior upload Eruptive Zopristis, as provided by the superb artist Bishyantir - Diamond Graphics (@Bishyantir) / X (twitter.com) Yul Hyu is an enormous cephalopod renowned for its absurd yet influential lifestyle. Able to inhabit near any environment and coating its body in local debris for camouflage, Yul Hyu burrows down in the most nutrient rich zone it can find and begins assimilating all mineral content. By expelling potent acids from its snake-like tendrils to dissolve rock and plant/fungi, it can then absorb the resultant 'soup' through its tentacles and fill the huge amber sacs beneath its mantle. Technically a herbivore, it only becomes dangerous to other monsters directly once it has drained all sustenance from an area. It captures hapless creatures and uses the modified combintion of its mouth and front two tentacles as a proboscis, injecting them with powerful sedatives. Once asleep, the victim is parasitised by Yul Hyu's offspring, who eat their host from the inside out and spread rapidly once emerging, swiftly growing into adult morphs if resources are abundant. So dangerous is its potential for environmental degradation and explosive population growth that the Guild marks any adult Yul Hyu as kill on sight; these cephalopods cannot be captured.

Elesa babbles, probably thinks she's being cool. Skyla befuddled. Frankly it works with either on them on either side, bless.

Another cephalopod monster, this time taking inspiration from cnidarians and the existing duo's floating offspring. A lot of potential to this class, don't you think? - IROCIRRIN
Title - Sky wandering octopus Monster class - Cephalopod Known locales - Can inhabit near any environment. Element/ailment - Thunder + Defence Down + Soiled Elemental weakness - Ice (3), Dragon (2), Fire (1), Water (0), Thunder (0) Ailment weakness - Blast (3), Sleep (3), Paralysis (1), Stun (1), Poison (0) Irocirrin is a truly unique cephalopod, renowned for its translucent skin and ability to move through the air column. It is distinct from others in its group as a more passive creature than a powerful creature, utilising wide 'fins to catch the wind, supported by lighter-than-air gases produced in its mantle. A ring of primitive eyespots allows it to see in near every direction, with extra guidance from the sensitive front pair of tentacles. The other six limbs are more solid, reinforced by electricity-generating musculature, and all encompass an expandable vacuum of a mouth. Perturbing as its vaguely skull-like appearance is, Irocirrin is no threat to large organisms. It predominantly feeds on aeroplankton, filtering seeds, spores, and tiny creatures drifting in the wid, and has been known to settle over regions of notable nutrient updraft. To endure longer trips across the skies, Irocirrin will seek areas rich in mineral content, or otherwise loaded with detritus from plants or fungi, and eject a powerful acid to dissolve them before absorbing the resultant 'soup'. Thusly, in the rare times they are low enough to interact, Irocirrin is never aggressive towards humans unless provoked. They will curiously examine most creatures, and researchers are advised to use dung pods if the cephalopod seems too engaged. In an inversion of other cephalopods, the young of Irocirrin - named Irocites- are terrestrial at first, occupying shallow waters in a polyp form where they can filter feed, or ambitiously reach for small fish and arthropods. The adults seem to be parthenogenetic; no mating rituals have been observed, and a single adult simply deposits hundreds of life young in an ideal zone. Once they have developed sufficient biomass, the Irocites will metamorphose into a free-floating form that takes to the air. The energy necessary to endure the first few years, as well as predation pressure, separates the weak from the strong, and precious few Irocites will reach adulthood. Irocirrin is not as hapless as its free-floating form may suggest. It is still an intelligent animal that can typically avoid most traps or environmental debris, and able to defend itself with lashes from its tentacles which deliver powerful electric shocks. In addition, Irocirrin can invert its stomach to spew its powerful acid onto foes, or mingle the residue with its gas production to create truly awful stenches. This mixture of ailments, plus its suprirsingly efficient mobility, makes it a more challenging opponent than one might think. While able to occupy many environments, Irocirrin is not a truly dangerous invader and is not a significant challenge to most hunters (Low Rank - 3, High/Master Rank - 2). Like most cephalopods, it is unaffected by flashes, but dung pods are able to disorientate it. Focus on striking the tentacles to discharge its electricity reserves and disrupt its gas production, temporarily grounding it. Keep in mind, Irocirrin is far from helpless and will focus on counterattacks when on the ground. Irocirrin tends to avoid the attention of most predators; flyers such as Rathalos and Legiana are put off by its electrical charges or stenches. However, one notorious predator is the flying piscine wyvern Daemona Xocoe, whose hellfire blasts easily outmatch the cephalopod's defences. Interestingly, Irocirrin has seen being targetted by elder dragons such as Kushala Daora or Velkhana, who are presumed to crave the mineral supplements it has absorbed or unique nutrients from its translucent skin. - Thank you for reading and take care.

The toughest part of any monster capture game is picking your perfect partner. Alas, Elesa and Nessa are getting competitive over which dual types best suit their theme, but Skyla's pretty chill.

Monster Hunter muses
Tumblr media
Another day, another prompt for potential in Monster Hunter behaviour. I do hope we get to see more expanion on creature interaction now that the maps can comfortably accommodate a larger number of them, as well as multiples of the same species. There was also a muse for interspecific behaviours that entail more mutualistic or amiable interactions. After all, even in a world as belligerent as Monster Hunter, some critters could do well to be passive.
Tumblr media
Other muses I could figure is that Yian Kut-Ku and Congalala are content to forage together, as both can unearth the fungi or insects the other desires while having more eyes open to watch for enemies like Doshaguma and Rathalos. Do you have any ideas for monster behaviours?

On another sketching run today, this time focussing on the more underused concepts within certain classes. For example, most fanged beasts are primates or ursids, but we also have the Bulldrome and Gammoth, both of whom are the only ones of their type within the group. You can say similar for elder dragons, how only Kirin is horse-like or Dalamadur is snake-like, or perhaps the snake wyverns, notably split between the obviously serpentine Najarala and the flight capable Remobra. So I drew some quick muses. We have a fanged beast who is a pachyderm, an elder dragon who is an equid, and a brute wyvern with heavy focus on its forelimbs. And a cephalopod for good measure. Here are some notes for fun.

Associate shared this cute find of a Skyla Elesa featuring the adorable Drifloon. Was a nice touch Skyla uses a Drifblim, the blimp / weather balloon angle fits her theme and another good candidate for Acrobatics. On an aside, always entertained how while Elesa made Volt Switch infamous in her BW1 fight for much of the unprepared, Skyla couldn't put her best TM to use because in her main gym teams only her Swoobat, itself geared to special attacks, could use it XD

Associate shared a take where, based on Skyla's beta period, the one we know could have dyed her hair from brown to red. A simple muse but interesting with what other facets of character one might envision to mingle pre-release and final aspects. Plus, to sentiment, would make another compare to contrast to Elesa, who notably dyes her hair after her confiding in Skyla.

Just a take for crossover muses, and this one was pretty entertaining to come up with. Xenomorphs have an interesting potential to form in such a franchise, while there is an understandable limitation that any initial infection would struggle with the higher power level expected of Monster Hunter. And to complete the theme, an additional muse on if Predator was there too, plus some sketches for prior takes to concept.

Prior muses regarding Elesa's comment that she thinks Skyla could make a good model and would love to style with her, which is fun for potential character nuance and design takes for Skyla if she did, but what of the opposite? What if Skyla decided Elesa had the makings of piloting potential and offered to give her flying lessons. You feel Elesa would be up for that, or bow out quicker than lightning?
