“I certainly don’t sit down and plan a book out before I write it. There’s a phrase I use called “The Valley Full of Clouds.” Writing a novel is as if you are going off on a journey across a valley. The valley is full of mist, but you can see the top of a tree here and the top of another tree over there. And with any luck you can see the other side of the valley. But you cannot see down into the mist. Nevertheless, you head for the first tree.”
— Terry Pratchett (via rissagomes)

Where did all the conflict go?
I say this as someone for whom books are very important, as someone who loves books more than people 90% of the time, as someone who feels the weight of the entire fucked up world fall off the minute she steps into a bookstore or a library, as a reader, please god give me conflict. Give me those “problematic” situations. Make your bad guys truly bad, I mean real assholes. Your characters, they should say things and be wrong sometimes, it’s okay. These are plot points. These are characters that we, as readers, love (or love to hate). Conflict is essential to any story worth reading. Don’t be afraid of it, please. That’s where great stories come from. It doesn’t make you a bad person if your character is a bad person. If your character says something horrible, it doesn’t mean you believe it. It’s okay to write stories like this, this is how stories are told.

Chapter two is here! Still making myself sad writing this, but at least Alderface is taking it in stride. Favorite line: “Your faith is beautiful.”
FANDOM: Warriors - Erin Hunter
CHARACTERS / SETTING: All original characters, in the lake territories
AU: Canon books never occurred. Expands on the lore in the warrior’s universe, particularly centering on death and StarClan.
DESCRIPTION: Eventually, each Clan would have their own story for her, and with each new story came a new name. They called her Deadheart, Loststep, Spliteye, Missingface. They all knew her by the same epithet: the wandering star. This is who she was before her story fell to myth.

Don’t give me one-sided unrequited love, give me two-sided unwanted love. Both sides are deeply in love with the other and both sides are like ‘fuck, really?? them??? really?’

Technically this is chapter 1 after the prologue, but oh well. Introducing Spidereye, my blunt, brusque, and perpetually angry medicine cat character.
FANDOM: Warriors - Erin Hunter
CHARACTERS / SETTING: All original characters, in the forest territories
AU: Canon books never occurred. SkyClan never left the forest.
DESCRIPTION: Aspenpaw is chosen to fill the position of medicine cat apprentice after ShadowClan’s former medicine cat passes away without a successor, but one StarClan cat refuses to accept her until they share a few words.
#fanfiction#warriors#writing#writeblr#OCs#original characters#honestly? Spidereye is one of my favorite characters ever#she's had a rough time of it
