Summary : A music video for Kehlani that showed a sensual love between two young women. That was Megan's newest acting project. And oh was she excited. This was an amazing opportunity for her. Until she found out who was to play her love interest. Manon Bannerman, world known supermodel who had the whole world kissing the very ground she walked on, despite her arrogance and horrible attitude. Megan despised her. For more reasons than one. But she wasn't going to let her ruin this opportunity for her. What she hadn't anticipated, however, were certain feelings emerging during their scenes.

‘’Just a little bit more blush. I want her to look like she actually has blood running through her veins. This isn't The Addams Family, thank you.’’ the director said to her make-up artist, who just rolled her eyes at his attitude, before applying more blush to the girl’s face.
Megan had been sitting in hair and make-up for the past half hour, her styling team getting her all ready for the music video they were about to shoot.
Kehlani was releasing a new single. It was a sensual song, and the music video was to show the love and sensuality between two women, of which one would be played by Megan. This was a great opportunity for her. Her name had been getting more and more out there in the acting world. She was one of the newest, hottest rising actors in Hollywood. Casting agent after casting agent was calling up her management team to ask if she wanted to star in their newest movie or tv show. Megan picked the ones she liked best, that spoke to her the most, or that were the greatest opportunity for her career-wise.
This music video was both. The queer theme resonated with her own bisexuality, and Kehlani was a major artist. It was the best of both worlds.
‘’Where the fuck is Manon? She’s twenty minutes late? Someone contact her, we don’t have time for this people we are on a tight schedule!’’ the director yelled as he frantically paced around the dressing room.
Right, Manon. The one thing that was absolutely ruining this amazing opportunity for Megan. Manon Bannerman, who was always late, if she ever even showed up at all. Megan rolled her eyes at the mention of the girl. People thought she was so great, just because she was pretty. But she was arrogant, entitled, toxic. Fame had surely gotten to her head, thinking she was above everyone else now just because she had the public at her feet. Megan couldn’t stand her.
‘’I swear to God it is always something with these fucking models. They think they own the world just because they have a pretty face.’’ Megan heard the director mumble to himself as he passed her by.
Megan understood his frustrations. It was always something with Manon. And other people always had to pay the price for it. But she wasn’t going to let the woman ruin this for her. And so she pulled out her phone, and she searched for the woman’s contact, before she unblocked her number.
Megan [9:24am] : Where the fuck are you? Get here now, we’re starting in 15.
The message arrived, two little grey checks appearing. The girl hadn’t blocked her. Pressing the block button was probably even too much effort for her. Megan wasn’t even worth that much. Wasn’t even worth proper resentments. And that just pissed her off even more. The way Manon never seemed to care. Not even enough to hate her back.
But Megan did care. She cared a lot. Too much even. And she hated it. But not as much as she hated the girl. And so after sending the message, she blocked her number again. She didn’t need a reply. She just needed Manon to get here so she could do her fucking job and have this amazing opportunity.
A few minutes later, the door swung open, and in walked the devil. Megan watched her walk in with slow and lazy strides through the large mirror in front of her. She was late, but visibly not in a hurry.
Megan felt her heart speed up a little at the sight of the girl. And she hated it. She hated how the girl simply being here affected her so much. She was wearing a pair of baggy jeans, Ugg shoes, a hoodie and a durag, and Megan hated how, despite everything, she still thought the girl looked good.
‘’Fucking finally Manon! Where the fuck have you been? You are like twenty minutes late? I almost thought you were going to be a no-show.’’ the director asked.
‘’Wouldn’t be the first time.’’ Megan mumbled to herself.
‘’LA traffic’s a bitch. You know it. But I’m here now, so chill out man. World ain’t ending.’’ she said with a chuckle as she made her way to the empty make-up chair beside Megan, sitting down in it without a care in the world. Megan gritted her teeth at the girl’s attitude.
‘’You’re late.’’ Megan said to her, a bite of venom laced in her voice.
‘’Only a little.’’ Manon answered, tone and face neutral, almost cold.
‘’Over twenty minutes.’’ Megan shot back, trying to not lose her cool entirely.
‘’I’m here now.’’ the model said matter of factly.
‘’Did you see my text?’’ Megan then asked.
‘’You sent me something?’’ Manon asked in return, and for some reason that stung.
‘’Never mind, just hurry the fuck up and get ready.’’ Megan bit, before she got up and walked towards the set, leaving behind an unbothered Manon.
‘’Okay, let’s roll people! Where is Manon?’’ the director said as soon as he saw Megan.
‘’Still in hair and make-up.’’ Megan replied.
‘’Fuck, okay. We’ll just do your solo scenes first. We only have one day.’’ he said, before he went on to explain exactly where and how he wanted Megan for the shots.
Megan followed his directions perfectly. She always did. She was truly a director’s dream. On a few jobs Megan had done, they had even had time left for extra scenes. She was the industry’s sweetheart.
‘’Fantastic!’’ the director clapped when they wrapped up the last one of her solo scenes.
‘’We got them all. Good job, Megan. You are a star.’’ he said, and a sense of pride washed over Megan.
‘’Okay, Manon! Where is Manon? Ah there you are.’’ he said, as he turned to the girl that was now stood in a corner, her make-up artist applying the last of her make-up.
‘’Let’s do your solo scenes next.’’ he said as he walked over to her to give her directions. Megan just walked over to the side of the set, sitting down in one of the folding chairs there as her make-up artist started to touch up on her hair and make-up.
She watched, eyes burning, as the girl walked onto the set. She was wearing a different pair of baggy jeans right now and a bra, her natural curls out. Her abs flexed with every step she took.
When the cameras started rolling, Manon got into her element, serving nothing but absolute face and body. She looked stunning. Captivating. Ethereal in the darkest and unholiest of ways. She was confident, fierce. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she knew that what she was doing, she did well.
‘’Yes! That is what I am fucking talking about! God damn!’’ the director shouted in between takes. Megan felt her blood starting to boil. Of course she had gotten away with her bad work ethic again just because she had a pretty face that knew how to work the camera.
The praise Megan had received was nothing compared to what Manon was receiving now. And where Megan had smiled politely and had thanked them, Manon just smirked cockily. Not even a ‘thank you’ would leave her lips.
‘’Alright, that is a wrap! Let’s take five and then continue with the duo scenes people!’’ he yelled, before he left the set. Megan just stayed seated in her chair, watching as Manon went over to her stylist, who started fixing some things. Megan’s eyes never left her figure. They couldn’t. Even if she wanted to.
For the entirety of the break, Megan watched Manon chat with some people, eyes burning into her, until the director returned. Their eyes had met a couple of times, whenever Manon would turn to look around her. But the older woman had always looked away quickly again.
‘’Okay people let’s continue our hard work. Megan, Manon, come here for a second.’’ he instructed. Megan got up, making her way over to the man. Her heart sped up with every step she got closer to the girl, until they were standing right next to each other.
As the director told them exactly what to do for each shot, Megan couldn’t help but to steal glances at the girl, who listened intently to all he had to say. Expensive designer perfume wafted off of her body, one Megan recognized. It was the scent she always wore. Voce Viva, Valentino. Her breathing was steady, though Megan saw the goosebumps on her arms from the cool air in the studio caused by all the ac’s they had to keep the equipment cool. But Manon wasn’t one to show when she was suffering. She was cool, almost cold, calculated. She always had been. But it had seemed to have gotten worse over time.
Megan hadn’t even noticed that the director had finished giving his instructions, until Manon turned to her, walking past her without saying a word, sparing her only one cold, sharp glance, before she walked back onto the set.
The first scene they had to do, was one in front of a screen, bodies and faces only inches apart, Megan’s hands on Manon's cheeks while Manon's were on her waist. The atmosphere was tense. Loaded with words unspoken. Manon played it safe, placing her hands on the girl's hips, where her pants covered her skin, rather than on her exposed waist. There was a distance between them, one in which their breaths never hit each other’s skin. Their eyes looked everywhere, but at each other’s.
‘’Okay, guys, we have room for Jesus and his twelve apostles and donkey right now. Fix that. Sell me love. Sell me sex. And Manon, stop acting as if Megan has a contagious disease. Touch her properly.’’ The director said. Megan saw Manon swallow at his words as her jaw clenched ever so slightly. A crack Megan hadn't failed to notice. Where Megan was raging, Manon seemed to be doing her utmost best at keeping her composure. And this gave Megan a sense of confidence. A sense of control.
‘’Yeah, touch me properly, Manon.’’ Megan said cockily, just to taunt her.
She felt the girl’s grip on her hips tighten shortly, before she moved them up to her waist, yanking her closer to her, hands caressing her sides, gripping onto her skin firmly. Their faces were only inches apart now, Manon’s dark eyes meeting Megan’s burning ones. Megan’s breath hitched at the sudden proximity.
‘’Better?’’ the girl asked lowly. Megan didn’t miss how the girl’s gaze dropped from her eyes to her lips. Manon’s breath was warm against her lips, and the scent of her mint gum invaded her nostrils as she spoke. Megan didn’t mean to, but her eyes also dropped down to the girl’s lips for a second, and as soon as they did, Manon's curled up into a small grin. Now it was Megan who had shown a crack.
In the meantime, the cameras rolled, needing only a few seconds of footage for this position.
‘’Cut! Next scene!’’ the director yelled, and as quickly as Manon had pulled Megan into her, she had slipped away from her again. Megan swallowed hard. This shoot was not going to be an easy one.
The next scene was one where Megan was lying flat on her back on a bed, legs rested on and wrapped around Manon’s shoulders as the older girl rested her head on Megan’s lower abdomen, laying between her legs. This was an easier scene for Megan, since Manon wasn’t facing her here. But what made it a hell, was the fact that for this scene, Megan needed to be in undergarments only, and the feeling of Manon’s body on her exposed one, the sensation of the girl between her legs, it set of an unwanted reaction in her. A tingling in the pit of her stomach. Arousal.
The next scene, was one where Manon was hugging her from behind, whispering something into her ear. They had told her to just whisper whatever. Megan felt the goosebumps spread as Manon slowly snaked her arms around her from behind, hands caressing her bare skin, before she felt her warm body press up against her own, before her warm breath hit the shell of her ear.
‘’And action!’’ the director yelled. Megan had a hard time keeping her breathing even at their proximity. And the worst was yet to come.
‘’Relax. You’re so tense.’’ was what Manon had decided to whisper into her ear, as she let her fingertips dance along her skin in a way that set Megan’s body ablaze. Megan shuddered at her touch, and her words that now kept ringing in her ears, and she had to close her eyes not to lose her composure.
‘’Okay, cut! Wonderful work people! Let’s take a little break and then move on to the big finale!’’ the director shouted, and Megan let out a breath she didn’t even know she was holding as soon as Manon had removed herself from her body again, walking over to her stylist to get ready for the final scene they had to shoot.
Megan took a small moment to collect herself, before she also made her way over to her stylist.
‘’Do you need some water? You look a bit, hot?’’ her stylist asked. Her face was probably red right now, and Megan wasn’t sure if it was from the intense rage she was feeling, or the arousal that she had felt with the older girl during their scenes. She guessed a combination of both.
‘’Yes, thanks.’’ Megan said, not even able to flash her dear stylist a smile.
Though seemingly composed, Manon wasn’t doing a lot better. She was fanning herself as she waited for the break to be over, already dreading the scene that was to come. Their final scene was a make-out scene. And while her heart was jumping at the idea of kissing the girl, touching her, her mind was cursing it. She was already insanely turned on by the light touches and proximity they had shared. But honestly, she had already known she was done for before she had even walked through that door. Hence why she had walked through that door twenty minutes late. The minute her management had told her that her love interest would be played by Megan, she knew she was done for. She had tried to talk herself out of the project, but her management hadn't let her get out of it. It was painful, to see her, to hold her, to kiss her. And she knew this day would leave a blister on her heart.
When the break ended, the director called them over again. Megan was still just in her undergarments, a blanket wrapped around her until she would get onto the set. The last time Manon had seen the girl, she was still rocking her ginger hair. But now, her hair was dark, except for her bangs and a few strands at the front, that had been dyed pink. She looked stunning. She had only gotten more beautiful over time. She was perfect. But she knew that Megan hated her. She knew she resented her. And she knew why. She understood. She had every right to.
‘’So, my idea was, for Manon to carry you over to the bed, and then lay you down, get on top of you and you just make out for a bit okay.’’ he explained to Megan, who nodded.
‘’Manon? Can you do it? Carry her?’’ the director then asked, snapping her back to reality.
‘’Yes, I can carry her.’’ she replied firmly.
‘’Alright, let’s roll then!’’ he shouted, as everyone got ready to shoot the final scene.
‘’Let’s just get this over with.’’ Megan said to her, her voice cold as ice. Manon swallowed at her tone and cunning composure.
Manon sat down, and Megan sat on her lap, wrapping her legs around her waist. Manon glanced down, not by choice, but unable not to, and she swallowed at the sight of Megan’s exposed body on hers, their hips flush.
She placed her hands underneath the girl’s bare thighs, revelling in the feeling of them in her hands. Megan’s hands found the back of her neck, and when Manon looked up, Megan was staring back at her, faces only inches apart.
‘’And, action!’’ the director shouted.
At that, Manon got up, lifting the younger girl up with her. With slow strides she walked over to the bed, before she gently laid Megan down on it. She then got on top of her, body in between her legs as cameras moved around them. They had played the song in the back, so they could follow the rhythm of it. For a few seconds they just stared into each other’s eyes, before she felt Megan pull her down by her nape, and Manon closed her eyes, before their lips met.
Their lips moved slowly and softly together, as Manon’s hands subconsciously caressed the girl’s thighs. The girl tasted sweet on her lips, and she soon melted into it.
She then pulled away from the younger’s lips, leaving small kisses along her jaw instead. Megan let out a quiet gasp when Manon’s lips had moved down to her neck, and she threw her head back when they travelled even lower. Manon kissed her way down her cleavage, until they landed on her abdomen. Cameras moved closer, zoomed in, but it was all background stuff to Manon. The girl beneath her had her full attention now, her ears focused on the shallow breaths and quiet gasps she let out. Her control had slipped. But she didn’t care. She could play this off as an act. Hell, she would probably receive praise for how well she had done. How real it looked. Because in a way, it was. For her. And for Megan. She knew it. She knew Megan cared. Because if she didn’t. She wouldn’t have hated her this much. She would have been indifferent. And the girl was anything but that.
But it was painful. It was painful to have her like this now, knowing she’d lose her again as soon as they’d cut the cameras.
And so, as soon as the director had yelled ‘’Cut!’’ and had clapped, before dismissing them, Manon had removed herself from the girl, from the bed, and had immediately left the set and stormed into the dressing room.
She had taken a few seconds to catch her breath, and steady her heart, before she had thrown her own clothes back on at Godspeed, and bolted out the door.
Megan was still on the bed, processing what the hell had just happened. The way Manon had kissed her, the way she had touched her. It had felt a little too real. Because it was. She thought Manon didn’t care. But this had told her otherwise. And that had now left Megan a confused and angry mess. How could she just kiss her like that? Touch her like that? How dared she?
Megan’s fists clenched into the sheets, her jaw tightening, before she got off of the bed and stormed her way over to the dressing room, not bothering to grab her blanket. Words burned on her tongue. Words she was planning to shout into the girl’s face. But once she had gotten to the dressing room, she was gone. Her bag was gone. Her clothes were gone. And her music video outfit was thrown over the backrest of her make-up chair. She had left. And Megan was fuming.
But underneath all of that anger, her heart was breaking, all over again.
In the next week that passed, Megan tried to get the older girl out of her head again. But it was hard, with a world known model. Manon’s face was everywhere. And Megan was noticing it more than ever now. Every banner, every social media post, every magazine, every poster. It was like the girl was taunting her with her presence. It was infuriating, and Megan felt herself growing more and more frustrated by the day.
And then the music video viewing rolled around. Everyone that had worked on the music video had been invited to come and watch it at the studio. Megan dreaded it. She dreaded seeing the girl and her acting so closely. She dreaded seeing the girl again. But she went anyways. She needed to stay professional first and foremost. Besides, she wasn’t a no-show.
When Megan had entered the studio, she had looked around in search of the older girl. Not because she wanted to see her, but because she wanted to be able to avoid her. But the girl wasn’t there.
At first Megan thought that she was late again, scoffing as she took her seat. But then the speech was given, before they played the music video, and the girl was nowhere to be seen. She hadn’t showed.
Who the fuck did this girl think she was? First she kissed her like she cared, and then she just disappeared?
Honestly, Megan wasn’t even surprised anymore. She could have seen it coming with the girl.
While Megan was suffering through the viewing, Manon was at home, trying not to spiral. She had thought about going to the viewing. But she knew Megan was going to be there, and she couldn’t face her. She also couldn’t watch herself be intimate with the girl on the screen. And so she had just stayed home, trying to somehow get the girl out of her head.
A few more weeks passed. Megan slowly slid back into her normal day to day rhythm, the girl fading into the back of her mind again. She had gotten busy with some acting jobs as well, which had helped in that process. And soon, things felt normal again, for as far as they were normal before.
But a disturbance was potentially on its way. Kehlani was holding a release party, and everyone who had worked on the song had gotten an invite. She knew there was a chance she would see Manon there too, and she was dreading it already.
The music video had come out that morning, and Megan had watched it with her friends. They had all praised her on how well she had done and at how hot her scenes with Manon were. Megan had just smiled and thanked them, trying to act excited about the whole thing. She had read some of the comments as well. They were going crazy over the two of them, saying they looked fantastic together. If only they knew their troubled dynamic.
Manon hadn’t watched the music video at all. She was avoiding it at all cost. The same way she had tried to avoid going to that release party. But her management was forcing her to go. They had told her that it was already bad enough that she had missed the music video viewing, and that she couldn’t not show up to the release party now. She had managed to make a deal with them though. The party started at 9pm, and her management had agreed on her going home at 10pm. She could just show her face there, then leave saying she had to get up early for a job the next morning. And she would. She would sit it out. She would avoid Megan for an hour. And then she’d bolt.
Megan was pouring herself a drink, as she chatted with someone, when she first saw her. She was wearing a silver mid thigh dress that hugged her body perfectly. Her hair was up in a straight high ponytail as her heels clicked against the tiles of the mansion the party was held at. She was in model mode. She always was when she was looking all feminine like that. The true Manon was more tomboyish, more masculine, wearing baggy jeans and shirts, beanies and durags. It was amazing how she could switch between the two. Like model Manon was some sort of an alter ego she would bring to life during work hours.
She watched as the older girl greeted some people, smiling sweetly at them, before her face would drop to neutral again as soon as they were gone. Despite her smiles and greetings, it was clear that she didn’t really want to be there.
Megan focused on her conversation with the guy again, that had started yapping at her about something about his job, for a few seconds, to show him that she was still listening, but when she looked behind him again, the older girl was gone.
Manon had fled into the kitchen, away from the crowd. Fuck she hated crowds. When she checked her watch, she saw that it was only 9:10pm. Fuck, she still had to be here for a solid 50 minutes. As she leaned on the counter, she let out a sigh, closing her eyes. She had spotted Megan talking to someone as she entered, and she had made sure to be somewhere the girl was not as soon as possible, which right now was the kitchen. The house was big, but not big enough for her to easily avoid the girl. But maybe the crowd could come in handy at some point. She was wearing the most horrible outfit ever as well. Her stylist had put her in a short dress that kept creeping up her legs as she walked, and the most uncomfortable of heels that her feet were already hurting in. But this was a work thing, and the world knew Manon as a very feminine and glammy model. And so that was how she was to appear here. She didn’t mind it though. She loved the character she had created for herself. It felt safe to not be herself towards the rest of the world.
‘’Here, to get you through the night.’’ a familiar voice spoke up close to her, pulling her out of her thoughts.
When she opened her eyes, she was met with a familiar face, holding out a glass of wine for her to take.
‘’Thanks, Soph. I already want to go home.’’ Manon complained.
‘’10pm, that was the deal.’’ Sophie, her visual director and best friend, said as she handed her the glass. Manon took a sip, letting the bitter yet sweet liquid glide down her throat.
‘’I know, I know. But just know I will motherfucking bolt the second that clock strikes 10.’’ she replied, before taking another sip.
‘’Fine by me. I want to go home too. They sent me here to keep an eye on you and make sure you don’t escape earlier than the deal.’’ Sophie chuckled, before she took the glass from the girl’s hands again, stealing a sip.
‘’Wow, my management has so much faith in me.’’ Manon chuckled sarcastically.
‘’Well, you don’t exactly have the best reputation in terms of attendance.’’ Sophie blurted out. One thing Manon both hated and loved about the girl, her brutal honesty. It was refreshing, real, but she also hated people clocking her shit.
‘’I show up where I need to. I just don’t like all the extra Hollywood shit. Who the fuck needs a music video viewing and release party? Just watch the damn video at home and pop open a bottle of wine for yourself.’’ Manon said, taking back the glass.
‘’Welcome to Hollywood baby.’’ Sophie sighed.
‘’I should have stayed in Switzerland, or Paris. I lowkey fucked with Paris. Hell even New York was better than this.’’ she said, before taking another sip.
Her and Sophie kind of lingered in the slightly calmer kitchen for the remainder of the hour. Megan had tried to look around for the girl here and there, but her search had kept getting interrupted by people who wanted to talk to her about her performance in the music video.
Eventually Megan had managed to make her escape from the endless questions and praises, by excusing herself to the restroom, which she honestly did need, so she hadn’t even lied.
When she left the restroom, she was planning to just go back to the party, when she spotted Manon in the empty hallway near the front door, pulling on her jacket.
Megan took this as her chance.
‘’You’re leaving?’’ she asked as she approached the older girl, who looked up to see who had asked her the question. Her breath stocked when she saw that it was Megan. The one person she didn’t want to see or interact with tonight.
‘’Yeah.’’ was all she replied.
‘’Seriously? It’s only been an hour? And you weren’t at the music video viewing either?’’ Megan huffed, already irritated. Manon sensed her irritation, but she was so not in the mood for this right now. She just wanted to go home, get out of this uncomfortable outfit, and enjoy some peace and quiet.
‘’What’s it to you?’’ she asked with a tired sigh. Megan scoffed.
‘’Just that everyone here is putting in an effort and keeping up a professional attitude except for you. You can’t just do whatever the hell you want just because you have a pretty face everyone adores.’’ Megan snarled. Manon just let out a bitter chuckle. Now getting irritated as well. The girl's words stung. Not because of what she had said, but how she had said them, the hatred in them.
‘’Sorry for not being a fucking industry doll like the rest of you who does whatever she’s told.’’ she snarked back. Now it was Megan’s turn to scoff.
‘’Wow, first you’re late, then you don’t show up at all, then you do only to leave again, and then someone calls you out on it and you don’t take accountability for it. Real mature and professional Manon. But I shouldn’t be surprised, now should I? Not showing up and leaving are like the two things you’re best at, right?’’ Megan bit back, venom dripping from her tongue with every word she spoke. Manon clenched her fists on her jacket.
‘’What the fuck is that supposed to mean?’’ she asked through gritted teeth.
‘’You know what it means.’’ Megan replied firmly. Their eyes were burning into one another.
‘’Are we still talking about work?’’ Manon then asked, but it was more of a rhetorical question. They both knew they weren’t.
‘’You tell me.’’ Megan replied. Manon wanted to say something, but the words got stuck in her throat. She could see the unresolved hurt and resentment swirl in the girl’s eyes. And guilt and regret washed over her once again.
‘’I got busy.’’ was all she replied. Bullshit. She knew it. They both did. She could tell by the way Megan scoffed at her words.
‘’Whatever. Just go. Leave. Like you always do.’’ Megan then said, voice quieter now, before she turned around and walked away, disappearing into the crowd. Manon swallowed hard, as she let out a shaky breath. Her eyes were stinging, but she didn’t let her tears fall. She couldn’t. She didn’t have the right to. And so she just took a deep breath, before she walked out the front door, turning her back at the party, at her, again.
Inside the mansion, the party was still going on full blast. Megan had made her way back into the heart of it, taking one of the many shots that they were serving on silver platters, before pouring herself another glass of wine. Her heart bled with a wound that hadn’t quite healed yet. One that had been ripped open again the day they had shot that music video and the girl’s hands had touched her body, her lips on hers.
She hated her. But most of all, she hated how she still wanted her.
In the corner of her eye, she noticed a guy walking up to her. She knew him. He was nice. They had talked earlier tonight. He smiled at her as he approached her.
‘’Hey, uh, me again. Have you seen Manon by any chance? I haven’t complimented her on her amazing act yet.’’ he asked, drink in hand.
‘’Manon left.’’ Megan replied, voice colder than she had intended. But she didn’t have the energy to pretend anymore.
‘’She left? Already? Why?’’ he asked, visibly disappointed.
‘’Because she’s too busy. Manon doesn’t have time for other people.’’ Megan replied, before she downed her drink and moved on.
Once home, back at her apartment, Manon changed into something more comfortable, before she slouched down on the couch with a cold beer. She hadn’t meant to torture herself tonight, but her hands seemed to have been living a life of their own as they swiped through an album in her phone’s gallery.
She didn’t want to, but a tear rolled down her cheek at the sight of the radiant smile, the whisker dimples, and the ginger hair she missed so much. She didn’t even bother wiping her tears away. So many pictures that she had never thrown away. That she had always kept, cherished. Pictures of her, of them. Selfies they had taken on cute dates, at home. Silly and embarrassing photos they had taken of each other. Photos she had taken of the girl with her camera. Some bright, and chipper. Some a little darker and more sensual. But all of them beautiful, for the girl was in them.
And then she got to the videos. Videos of the girl being her silly self. The video of the girl on the swing at the park that she still came back to more times than she’d ever dare to admit.
She scoffed, before she chuckled, dropping her phone next to her on the sofa as she drank the last of her beer. It was funny. She was the one who had left. So why was she the one crying now? It was almost unfair. She had made her choice. Yet she was crying over the consequences now. She really was a selfish dick.
And now the girl hated her. And for good reason. She hadn’t even said goodbye. She hadn’t said anything. She had just, gone. She wasn’t even sure anymore why she had gone. She remembered the promises she had made, but had never kept. The promise that she’d call her as soon as she had landed, in Paris. The promise that they’d text, that they’d call. The promise that she’d visit. The promise that they’d make the distance work. The promise that she wasn’t going anywhere. She hadn’t kept any of them. And they had only lasted shortly. Because the moment she had set foot in Paris, it had gone dead silent. The girl had called her. She had texted her. God had she texted her. Lovingly at first, then concerned, confused, then angry, and finally, hurt. But she had never replied. And then her number had gotten blocked. Why had she done that? Why had she left? She wished she hadn’t. But she had.
Her hands found the remote of her tv. She hadn’t even watched their music video yet, afraid it’d be too painful. But now that she was torturing herself anyways, why not watch it? And so she typed the title of the song into the search bar on Youtube, before she clicked on the video.
The sensual music sounded through her apartment, as she watched herself, and the girl.
They looked good together, she thought to herself. They always had, in an unconventional way. If you had asked others, they would have never paired them up together. They were so different. But it worked. It worked so well. Almost too well. They themselves hadn’t seen it coming either, to fall in love with one another. Even they wouldn’t have paired themselves up with one another had you asked them beforehand. But still they had found each other, and when they had, it was like two hearts in the desert. Their connection had been intense, and deep, from the very start. A connection unlike anything either one of them had ever felt before. Megan was her everything, her whole entire world, once. Still. But Megan wasn’t hers anymore. She had left. She had broken the girl's heart. Turning herself from the girl’s sweetest heaven, into the girl’s worst hell.
As she watched the video, she remembered those moments, those scenes. She remembered every time the girl’s breath had hitched at her touch. She remembered every quiet gasp she had let out at her kisses. She remembered the way goosebumps had spread all over her body, and not because of the cold on set, the heat that had radiated off of her skin betraying her.
She wished she could turn back time. To go back to that very moment she had left for Paris. She would have made so many different choices. She would have kept every promise she had made the girl. She would have done better. But she had only realised what she had lost when she had lost it. She had been selfish. Greedy. And she had taken the girl for granted. And she was sorry.
But it was too late for sorry now. Way too late. And so she just sat there, wallowing in self pity while she drank her beer as she listened to the playlist they had once shared, tears she couldn’t even be bothered to wipe away silently rolling down her cheeks.
Eventually, after she didn’t even know how long, her silence was interrupted by a knock on her door. It was almost one in the morning now, and for a second she just stared at the door, wondering if the alcohol had had her hallucinating. But she hadn’t drank that much. She was only a little tipsy. But who would be here at this hour? With a furrowed brow, she got up from the sofa. Then another knock was heard, this time louder, more urgent.
Manon opened the door, thinking it was probably Daniela showing up unannounced again, like she so often did, but as soon as the door opened, a pair of lips crashed into hers. This was definitely not Daniela. She hadn’t even seen the person. Her eyes had closed on the impact. But she knew who it was. These lips felt familiar. Too familiar. And she immediately melted into the kiss, her hands instinctively finding the person’s waist.
Their lips moved together in hunger, desperation, longing. Like they had been deprived for so long it hurt. Hands tangled into her hair, pulling her in deeper. Teeth pulled at her bottom lip, leaving a stinging pain. Manon even tasted a drop of blood. But it felt good. Painful. But good.
Manon took a few steps back, pulling the other person into the apartment with her, before she pushed them back against the door as it closed. Hands hungrily caressed exposed abdomen and waist, sliding underneath their top. A salty taste then mingled with the sweetness of the other person’s mouth. Tears. But not hers. The other’s. They were crying. And she understood. She cried too. Even if she didn’t have the right to.
Her hands slid the top over the other’s head, tossing it onto the floor as their kiss broke. Manon wasted no time, connecting her lips to their neck. They threw their head back, giving her more access, and she kissed down their throat, to their cleavage now exposed, her own tears falling too now.
And then she pulled away, lifting her head to finally look at the person she had pinned against her door.
Megan.
Her doe coffee brown eyes stared back at her in sorrow. In pain. And she felt it. She felt it too.
For a second they just stared back at each other, neither uttering a word. Neither daring to. Then Megan’s grip on her nape tightened, and she leaned in to leave a few soft kisses on her neck. Manon’s breath shook at the feeling. But then she stopped, letting her head rest on her shoulder, face buried into the crook of her neck as soft sobs reached Manon’s ear. She could feel her shirt get wet with tears. Her grip on the girl’s waist loosened, now just gently holding her as her own lips started quivering with the cries she was holding back.
She had no idea why Megan was here. Or maybe she did. Maybe she had known exactly what was going on from the moment the girl’s body had betrayed her during that music video shooting. She also hadn’t failed to taste the flavour of wine that still clung onto the girl's lips, the smell of alcohol wafting off of her with every shallow breath she took. She didn’t seem drunk. But she definitely wasn’t sober either. She was just far enough gone to give into her feelings for older girl. And Manon was just far enough gone not to stop her.
Megan lifted her head again, meeting Manon’s eyes. Hurt and betrayal swirled in the younger’s eyes. And it broke Manon’s heart. It broke her heart knowing that she had been the cause of it.
‘’I’m sorry.’’ Manon was the first to break the silence. She watched the girl’s jaw tighten at her words, lips trembling, eyes burning, nostrils flaring. Manon just let her tears fall, her eyes glossy and vision blurry as her bottom lip quivered.
‘’I’m sorry.’’ she repeated, voice barely above a whisper, breaking slightly.
‘’Don’t.’’ the girl replied, trying to sound firm, but the crack in her voice betrayed her.
‘’Don’t act like you regret it.’’ she said.
‘’Don’t act like you still care.’’ more tears fell from the younger’s eyes. Manon didn’t say anything. She didn’t have to. Her eyes spoke for her.
Megan’s hands found their way to Manon's collar, pulling her closer by her shirt until their noses almost touched. The younger girl closed her eyes, new tears rolling down the stream the previous ones had created.
‘’Stop looking at me like that.’’ she whispered against the older girl’s lips with a shaky breath.
‘’Like what?’’ Manon asked, her breath warm against the younger’s lips.
‘’Like you still love me.’’ she replied, her forehead now rested against the older’s.
‘’Just fuck me.’’ she then whispered, voice unsteady.
‘’Please.’’ she begged, slowly breaking down, grip on the girl’s shirt impossibly tight now, fists clenching the fabric.
‘’Just fuck me.’’ she repeated, before she connected their lips again, both of their salty tears mixing with the both bitter and sweet taste the kiss left in their mouths.
Both were angry, either at themselves or the other, and hurt, yet their kiss was soft, and gentle. Their lips moved together slowly, almost carefully, like the other’s lips were fragile and required the utmost care, for else they’d break. Megan’s grip was firm on Manon's face, hands cupping her cheeks, but not rough, not painful, not searing, lingering, as her thumbs softly caressed her skin. Manon’s fingertips danced along the younger's ribs the way they had done countless of times before, still remembering every step of the dance only they knew how to dance.
Then Manon’s lips trailed down to the girl’s jaw, drawing a path of soft kisses down to her neck, her shoulders. Megan let her head rest against the door as she inhaled deeply, her hands now rested on the older girl’s shoulders.
Manon’s lips travelled down further, kissing down her cleavage, to the little star tattoo on her ribcage that she had once given her.
And then she sunk down, onto her knees. Megan watched as she left a few more soft kisses along her abdomen, before she looked up, their eyes meeting once more. Megan’s lips started trembling again at the sight. This wasn’t intimacy. Or sexuality. This was an apology. A beg for forgiveness. A confession of her mistakes, and the accountability that came with it. Repentance.
‘I messed up. And I’m sorry.’
Megan couldn’t take it. Had you asked Megan, she would have said her heart was shattering instead of breaking. But deep down, she knew that this wasn’t the crushing of her heart. It was the mending of it. And somehow, the mend hurt worse than the crush. The healing of the wound so much more painful than the infliction of it.
‘’Stop that.’’ Megan said, in a desperate attempt to win the battle she knew she had already lost. But Manon didn’t listen, her eyes never leaving the girl’s. She should have listened to her. She should have given her what she wanted. She owed it to the girl. It was selfish not to. But Manon was willing to be selfish. One more time. One last time.
‘’I said, stop that!’’ she repeated, raising her voice a little. But Manon didn’t even flinch, continuing to stare up at her with the exact same intensity.
And then she broke.
Megan’s hands flew to the girl’s chest, hands fisting the fabric of her shirt as she grabbed onto it. She yanked the girl up, before she pushed her against the door, her back hitting the wooden surface with a loud thud.
‘’I told you to stop and just fuck me!’’ Megan shouted through her tears, her voice closer to a cry than a yell.
And then something in Manon snapped as well.
Her hands wrapped around the girl’s wrists firmly, before she pushed. With every quick step she pushed forward, Megan’s feet set a step backwards.
She pushed her all the way back to her bedroom, pushing the door open with her foot before the girl’s back could hit it. And Megan let her. She let her push her back all the way, until the back of her legs hit the frame of her bed. And then Manon pushed her down.
Megan’s back hit the mattress, before Manon’s lips crashed onto her neck. Sloppy wet kisses were left all over her neck, teeth grazing her skin, biting down and sucking on it. Megan threw her head back at every mark. Manon's skilled hands unclasped her bra, tossing it away. Then her lips wrapped around one of her nipples with the same amount of aggression they had latched onto her neck with, and a loud moan escaped Megan's throat. Manon’s hands wasted no time, unbuttoning the girl’s jeans and yanking them down with her already soaked panties, before she plunged two fingers into the girl’s dripping core. Megan let out a sharp moan at the feeling of it all as she shut her eyes tightly.
Manon pumped two fingers into her while her thumb drew circles on her clit, her lips wrapping around the other nipple to paint her other breast in the same purple marks she had decorated the first with.
Megan felt herself getting close already with what the older girl was doing to her. And with a few final pumps of her fingers, Megan came all over her hand.
She hadn’t even caught her breath yet, when Manon pulled her fingers out of her, getting off of her, pulling away from her entirely to stand in front of the bed.
When Megan opened her eyes and looked up at the girl, she was met with tear stained cheeks, burning and blurry eyes, and a tight jaw.
‘’Happy now?’’ Manon asked. Megan could hear the hurt in her strained voice.
‘’This was what you wanted right? For me to stop caring and just fuck you? Here you have it.’’ she said, trying to sound angry, and in a way she did, but with every word she spoke, her voice got quieter, more fragile, more broken, before she let her body rest against the wall and slide down it until she hit the ground, arms rested on her knees as she fully broke down into sobs now.
Now it was Megan’s turn to feel guilty. Now it was Megan who had been the selfish one.
Megan sat up. The mend of her heart breaking again, until this time, it did shatter. She had broken her. She had broken the girl the same way Manon had once broken her. Were they even now? Technically they were. But nothing about this felt good to Megan. She had expected it to feel satisfying, but it just hurt. Because despite it all, despite, maybe, the girl deserving it, Megan didn’t want to break her. Because she loved her. Through all the anger, all the betrayal, all the hurt, she still loved her.
Manon felt crushed. It was as if Megan had taken her heart, and had stepped on it. But she didn’t blame her. She knew she deserved it. Didn’t make it hurt any less though. But that wasn’t all. It wasn’t just the hurt from this moment that was coming out now. It was everything. All the hurt she had ignored. All the pain she had pushed away. All the wounds she had covered up and had pretended didn’t exist. It was overwhelming. And her chest was physically aching as her lungs burned.
This, what they had done tonight, this was Megan’s revenge. This was the last thing she needed to end the chapter of her life that had been her and Manon. This was her closure. And Manon had finally really lost her now. And that, that stung. That stung like a million daggers piercing right through her already bleeding heart.
That was what Manon thought, and what Megan had envisioned when she had come here. But looking at the broken girl in front of her, she didn’t want to let her go. She didn’t want to move on. She would rather keep on hating her, than to let her go. Because then at least she still felt something for her.
They were broken. Both of them. And their bond. But Megan would rather be broken with her, than whole without her.
And so she got up from the bed, and she softly padded over to the girl, crouching down beside her.
Manon hadn’t noticed it. Her sobs had blocked out the sound. She only found out when she felt a hand tucking her hair behind her ear, before it cupped her cheek.
‘’Sshh.’’ Megan hushed softly, her voice trembling a little.
Her hand then took a hold of her chin.
‘’Hey, look at me.’’ she whispered, as she turned the girl’s head to face her, letting her forehead rest against the older girl’s.
Then she kissed her, softly, tenderly. More tears flowed, from the both of them. But quietly this time. The kiss was short, but lingered on both of their lips.
‘’I’m sorry too.’’ Megan whispered against her lips.
And then she said it. The words that broke Manon entirely. The final blast that put the city to rubble.
‘’It’s okay.’’
It was barely a whisper, so quietly had it left the younger's lips. But Manon had caught it. And all her defences, all her masks, all her walls, they fell down. She had done it. She had finally done it. Megan had finally turned Manon into a ruin. She had broken her, and now she was going to build her back up again.
It started with a tender kiss against her lips. Then, soft featherlight kisses on her jaw, moving up to her cheeks to kiss the tears off of her cheekbones. And then Megan’s hands took a hold of Manon’s, before she helped the girl to her feet. She walked her back to the bed, lips ghosting over the skin of her neck, kisses lighter than Manon had ever felt. And Manon let her. She let Megan guide her. Where Manon had expected closure, the ending of their story, Megan had given her an opening. The girl had turned the page, had picked up the pen again, and had continued writing. She had shown her mercy. Every little kiss the younger girl left on her skin now spoke not of resentment, but forgiveness. The kind of forgiveness that promised another chance. A chance for different. For better.
When the back of her legs hit the bed, Megan pushed her to sit down on the edge. Their kiss broke, their eyes meeting instead. Megan had stopped crying. A certain peace had washed over her, a kind of tenderness painting her face as she softly smiled down at the older girl in reassurance.
Her hands found the hem of Manon’s shirt, before she pulled it up. Manon raised her arms, letting the girl take the piece of clothing off of her.
Soft hands cupped her cheeks, before they slid down to her nape, arms rested on her shoulders as Megan straddled her. Manon’s hands moved to the girl’s waist on instinct. Their faces were only inches apart as their uneven breaths mingled.
‘’Manon?’’ she called out softly, eyes closing.
‘’Yes.’’ she replied. Her words more of an answer than a question. She knew what this was. She knew what was happening. And the answer was yes. But still, the girl said it.
‘’Love me.’’ her voice barely more than a breath.
‘’Love me the way I know you still do.’’ she continued.
‘’Love me the way I still love you.’’ but Manon had given her her answer already. And so she just crashed their lips together in a kiss that expressed all the feelings that had been supressed until now. All the love, the affection, the desire and the care that had been hidden underneath the hurt and anger. It was like pulling survivors out from underneath the rubble. Like finding your most cherished belongings unscathed underneath the ruins. They were still a wreck. But the war was over.
Megan rolled her hips into the girl, before she guided Manon’s hand from her waist, down to her core. A quiet gasp escaped her lips when Manon’s fingers started drawing slow circles on her clit. And then a sigh of relief left her lips. Her heart felt at ease again. Like the storm had finally quieted down to a calming drizzle.
Manon’s lips travelled down to her neck again, tenderly kissing every angry purple mark she had left there, soothing her bruised skin.
‘’Manz.’’ Megan’s grip on the back of the girls neck and her shoulders tightened when she slipped two fingers inside of her again. It had been a while since Manon had heard that nickname come out of the girl’s mouth. She had missed it. She had missed her.
Megan’s hips started grinding into her in the same rhythm as her thrusts, and the pace of her thumb on the girl’s clit increased when she felt the girl starting to clench around her, close to the edge now.
Megan’s breaths got shallow and uneven, until they stopped, for just a few seconds, as she came all over the girl’s hand again, lips parted, chest heaving, beads of sweat coating her hot skin, nails digging into Manon’s back.
Megan let her head fall down, her face buried in the crook of the girl’s neck as she caught her breath while Manon slowly and shallowly pumped her fingers into her to let her ride out her high.
Fervent and wet kisses peppered Manon’s neck once Megan had come down from her high, and she retracted her fingers from the girl, her hands moving to caress the girl’s thighs while Megan’s hand fumbled with the clasp of her bra, before it snapped open.
Megan leaned down, letting her lips wrap around one of her nipples, and Manon let out a shaky breath at the feeling, one of her hands moving from the girl’s thigh up to the back of her head, tangling in her hair.
Megan pushed her down, until her back hit the soft mattress, lips never leaving her body. Manon closed her eyes, as she let the girl devour her.
Her lips travelled down further, until they reached the waistband of Manon's pants. With one hand, she unbuttoned her jeans, before she slid them down her legs along with her underwear. Soft lips met Manon’s inner thigh, hands gently parting her legs. Her hands tangled into the girl's hair, gripping onto the girl’s head, when she started rubbing slow circles on her clit with her thumb, spreading her slick on it, before her thumb was replaced by her lips. Quiet gasps left Manon’s lips as her hips rolled into the girl’s mouth at every swirl of the girl’s tongue on her clit. Her legs were wrapped around Megan’s head and shoulders, trapping her, while Megan’s hands caressed her thighs, occasionally squeezing them a little.
Manon lost it when Megan entered her with two fingers, letting go of every little bit of control she was still holding onto. She surrendered to her. She gave her all to her.
Manon tasted sweet on her tongue. And she savoured every little bit of her.
It only took a few pumps for Manon to start clenching around the girl’s fingers. And with a couple more thrusts, with a few more flicks of her tongue, the tight coil in the pit of Manon’s stomach snapped. Her back arched off the bed as her thighs trembled, clenching around the girl’s head. Megan helped her through her orgasm, drinking up every drop the girl was giving her.
And then she pulled out. Soft lips met Manon’s again. She could taste herself on the girl’s tongue as they swirled together.
And then Megan laid down beside her, on her side, wrapping her arms around the girl and pulling her closer to spoon her. Manon let her. She let herself melt into the girl’s warm embrace. She felt safe, secure, in the girl’s arms. She felt at home.
Manon’s hand found Megan’s on her abdomen, and she let their fingers lace together, hands intertwining.
Neither spoke. Megan just drew circles on the back of Manon’s hand with her thumb, as her lips showered the girl’s shoulders and back with soft kisses.
A lot was still broken. The damage still severe. But they were together again. They would rebuild what had been broken, but this time, better. It wasn’t going to be easy, they both knew it, but they’d get through it, together.
And as for Manon, she had learned a valuable lesson.
And she was never leaving again.

Note
I am finishing this one up right now but I got a little carried away with the plot and it ended up not being the hot bratty Megan x blunt Manon plot I had in mind😭
There is some bickering and Megan being sassy while Manon remains unbothered and nonchalant in the beginning, but the whole thing is lowkey more angsty than hot😭✋️
In the end it turns a bit more fluffy though, trust🙏🏼
And there will be some 18+ spice ofc😉
But yeah my brain basically has a mind of its own because sometimes I plan to write a certain plot but then as I write it the plot changes, but hey, it's still an M&M oneshot so that's a win. And a win is a win?😅
Okay I am going to finish up the oneshot now, stay tuned my babies! 😁💗
Love y'all <3
bro I’ve been trying to find a writer to write member x member fics on here but no one does so it’s great to see someone who does! I was wondering if I could get an M&M fic? I was thinking like an actor AU? Where Megan’s like a pretty known actor and Manon is a famous model? I was thinking they get put together for some big project and they start bickering and stuff a lot so semi rivals to lovers? Megan’s super sassy and kinda bratty and Manon is just blunt and sarcastic as hell. I also kinda feel like Manon is like super able to switch between masc and femme so I was thinking that she could be like super femme as model but as soon as she’s done work her masc side appears. Thanks so much! (Can I pls be 🦅 anon?)
Currently also working on this one ♡

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Megan was at the gaming café again, sipping on another hot chocolate, her hands lingering on the mug as she remembered the previous night she had spent there with Daniela, smiling softly to herself, before she focused on her laptop again. She was working on her game again, finishing up the look and role of each character. It was almost midnight now. The streets were more bustling than usual, it being a Friday and people staying out later to celebrate the start of the weekend, yet the café was empty, aside from her.
She was typing away on her laptop, headphones on her head playing some of her favourite songs. But then the music stopped, and her ringtone sounded through her headphones.
‘’I swear if they are wasted already.’’ she mumbled to herself as she grabbed her phone, expecting the call the be from either Manon or Lara, who were at the club right now.
But to her surprise, neither of their names were displayed on her screen. Her heart skipped a beat as she read her name, before she picked up.
‘’Megan?’’ her voice sounded from the other end of the line. She sounded tired. Which made sense. It was almost three in the morning in Atlanta now. What was she still even doing up at this hour?
‘’Shouldn’t you be asleep? It’s like three in the morning for you.’’ Megan chuckled softly.
‘’Yes, I was going to go to bed soon. I’m in my bed already, actually. I just wanted to hear your voice before I fall asleep.’’ Daniela said. Megan couldn’t help but smile at her words, butterflies fluttering around in her heart and stomach, warmth immediately spreading throughout her entire body.
‘’Well, here I am.’’ Megan replied, cheeks burning up.
‘’Where are you?’’ the older girl asked.
‘’The gaming café. You’re in Atlanta now, right? With your cousin?’’ Megan asked.
‘’Yeah, I’m in Atlanta, but not with my cousin. I’m at my old home. With my mom.’’ she replied. Megan thought for a moment, before she smiled.
‘’So, can I assume that things went well, since you are at your mom’s house?’’ she asked.
‘’Yes. It went really well. That's also why I called you. To let you know how things went.’’ Daniela chuckled. Megan just listened, waiting for her to continue.
‘’We talked a lot, during dinner, and after. She made my favourite dish. We both have a lot of regrets. Lots of apologies. Lots of tears. But we want to rebuild our relationship again. We missed each other a lot.’’ the girl spoke. Megan smiled softly at her screen, eyes on it, but mind with the girl.
‘’That’s so good to hear. I’m so happy that it worked out for you.’’ she replied.
‘’Yeah, we still have a lot to work on, but we’ll get there. She asked me if I wanted to come to my uncle’s birthday party next week, to see the family again. And this Sunday I am going to church with her again. I’ll be staying here for the entire two weeks, in my old bedroom, which is still exactly the same as when I left. That surprised me a little. It’s been like, nine years almost, since I left. I thought she had cleared it out by now, especially after what happened, but everything’s still here.’’ Megan could hear that the girl was smiling as she spoke. It warmed Megan’s heart to hear that everything had gone well.
‘’That's wonderful, Dani. I’m proud of you. You were very brave to take this step. And I’m happy that it’s working out. You deserve it.’’ Megan said, genuinely.
‘’You’re going to make me cry if you keep talking like that.’’ Daniela chuckled.
‘’My apologies.’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’Don’t. I don’t think I would have ever grown the balls to make this change if not for you. Thank you, Megan.’’ Daniela said.
‘’You still did it yourself though. I just yapped a little.’’ Megan chuckled nervously, feeling her cheeks heat up again as her heart did backflips in her chest.
‘’You did more than just yapp, Megan. What you said, I deep down already knew. I just, I never felt secure enough to do it. Until I met you. Despite us not really knowing each other very well, you felt safe. Like someone to catch me if I’d fall down. You made me feel secure enough to actually make this climb. You still do.’’ Daniela said, and Megan felt her eyes tear up a little. Her heart thumped in her chest at the idea that she had genuinely meant something to the girl.
‘’I’m glad I could be that person for you.’’ she replied, as she swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.
Then silence fell. There was a tension between them that neither of them could quite name. Daniela was the first to break it.
‘’What are you up to? Working on your game again?’’ the girl asked. Megan cleared her throat, before she answered.
‘’Uh, yeah. Just rounding up the characters. Finishing their looks and all.’’ she replied.
‘’Can you make a character that looks like me?’’ Daniela then asked, her voice light, cheery.
‘’Hm, I suppose maybe there is still some room for a tiny little side character in my game.’’ Megan replied, causing Daniela to chuckle.
‘’Should I name her Daniela too?’’ Megan then asked.
‘’No, wait, name her, uh, Gabriela.’’ the older girl replied.
‘’Gabriela. And is Gabriela one of the good guys or one of the bad guys?’’ she continued to ask as she typed on her laptop.
‘’Oh she is a total baddie.’’ Daniela answered.
‘’And what crimes does she commit?’’ Megan asked. Letting Daniela design the character in its entirety.
‘’She steals.’’ the girl said.
‘’What does she steal?’’ Megan asked.
‘’Hm, she steals hearts.’’ Daniela said, and Megan chuckled. It was ironic, because Daniela was stealing her heart right now.
‘’And how do we stop her?’’ she asked.
‘’When she tries to steal your heart, you just say ‘’Hands off, Gabriela!’’ repeatedly, and then she goes away.’’ Daniela said.
‘’So a Swiper no swiping type of thing?’’ she asked with a chuckle.
‘’Yes!’’ Daniela replied excitedly. God she was adorable, even though she couldn’t even see the girl right now.
‘’Alright then. I will create Gabriela and then I will show you as soon as she is finished.’’ Megan said.
‘’Cool.’’ the older girl replied.
‘’You should sleep now though. It’s really late and you need some rest after your long day.’’ Megan then said, voice soft, a sense of peace washing over the both of them.
‘’I know. I will. Just, can you talk to me until I fall asleep again, please?’’ the older girl asked, and Megan felt her heart flutter for the millionth time now.
‘’What do you want me to talk about?’’ she asked.
‘’How was your day at work? Any good paper jams?’’ Daniela asked.
‘’Hm, no, unfortunately. But Cathy from advertisement did fuck up her computer and accidentally deleted what she had been working on for days and it took me a solid two hours to retrieve the files. It was interesting. I could feel my blood rushing at the pressure of all the important work being lost if I couldn’t fix it. And with all the deadlines, it was a real thrill.’’ Megan said dramatically. She got to hear Daniela’s sweet chuckles in return, and she hated how much she loved to hear them. It was almost embarrassing.
‘’Well well well, you saved the day again, I hear. Such a hero you are.’’ Daniela joked back.
‘’The city can always count on me, Megatron.’’ Megan said. This time it wasn’t a chuckle she received, it was a full laugh.
‘’Megatron? I’m so changing your name in my contacts to that.’’ Daniela said through her laughter. Megan felt her cheeks get redder again, if that was even possible.
‘’You have to stop being so funny though, if you want me to fall asleep. Tell me something less exciting. Explain your game to me.’’ the girl then said, and Megan scoffed in fake offence.
‘’Excuse you? Are you calling my game boring?’’ Megan asked teasingly.
‘’No! Just, I just need to hear you talk. You could talk about anything really. Your voice calms me down. I just want to hear it.’’ Daniela quickly tried to recover herself. The butterflies in Megan’s stomach were going crazy by now. She wondered if Daniela felt it too. The butterflies. The fluttering. The nerves. The heat rushing to her cheeks. The smiles when she chuckled or laughed. The connection they had.
She did. She felt all of it.
She was lying on her side, her phone on her nightstand on speaker as her head rested against one of her pillows, sheets pulled up to her face, stuffy tucked underneath her chin.
Megan started talking, her voice calm and soothing. She talked about how she programmed the game. The rules. All the math behind it. Daniela understood nothing. But it didn’t matter. She clung onto every word she said. She just wanted to hear her voice.
Slowly but surely, she felt herself drift off to sleep. At first she tried to fight it, desperately trying to hold onto the moment. But eventually exhaustion won the game.
The phone calls, Megan talking her to sleep. It became a habit. The next night, she called Megan again. And then the night after that, again. It became a routine. For the both of them. Megan kept track of the times at which the girl would go to bed, which was mostly between one and two in the morning for the girl. She would keep her phone just a little closer during those hours, just so she wouldn’t miss the call. And she never did. She always picked up.
Whenever Daniela called from her bed in her old bedroom in Atlanta, Megan was always either at her apartment, or at the café. She would tell her stories. From her childhood. From her college days. Funny stories of her and her friends, though those often made Daniela laugh instead of putting her to sleep. Some nights, when she had no story to tell, she would just read her something from a book. Her voice had become her favourite lullaby. And the evenings had become Megan’s favourite time of the day.
Their calls always started with them sharing about their day, joking around a little. And then Megan would talk, and Daniela would listen, until no sound was heard from the other end of the line anymore, and Megan would bid her good night and hang up.
They started texting too. Memes, funny pictures they’d take of themselves. Sometimes they talked about more serious things. Sometimes they’d goof off. And sometimes they’d subtly flirt with each other. And every time they did, both of their hearts were beating a little faster than usual. It felt amazing. But sometimes it hurt a little. They missed each other. They missed seeing each other.
And so, despite having to say goodbye to her family again, at least for now, Daniela felt happy to be going back to LA, knowing that there was someone out there waiting for her.
By now, it was kind of obvious to the both of them. They felt it. They had a connection that went beyond friendship. But they were also scared. Scared that maybe they had misread their connection. That maybe the other person just saw them as a friend. That maybe their own pounding hearts had created this illusion of the feelings being mutual.
When Daniela landed in LA, Megan was waiting for her at arrivals. She had offered to pick the girl up from the airport and drive her home. She had even taken the day off from work for it. The girl would land at around 4:30pm. And so at that time, Megan stood there, holding a little sign with Daniela’s full name on it, as a joke.
Daniela felt giddy to be seeing the girl again. Their relationship had deepened a lot during her two weeks in Atlanta, and was quite different from when they had last seen each other. They had gone from shy strangers, to close companions. And so she wasn’t sure what the energy was going to be like when she’d see her again. Would it be awkward? Tense? Or would it be as easy and comfortable as it had been on the phone?
When she walked through the doors of the hall, her eyes immediately searched the small crowd for the girl.
The first thing she noticed, was a sign with her name on it, and then she saw her. Her eyes lit up at the sight, the corners of her lips tugging up into a small smile. Her heart sped up a little, as she approached her. When she was a few feet away from the girl, Megan noticed her too, and their eyes locked. Megan smiled at her, but before she could say anything, Daniela wrapped her arms around her shoulders in a hug. Megan chuckled, as she hugged her back.
‘’It’s good to see you too.’’ Megan said as her arms wrapped around the girl’s waist.
‘’How was your flight?’’ she then asked, as they pulled away from the hug.
‘’It was fine. What’s with the sign?’’ Daniela asked, unable to stop smiling. God she had missed the girl.
‘’Oh, yeah, Taxi Skiendiel is here to pick up one Daniela Avanzini and escort her home.’’ Megan said dramatically.
‘’Hm, I think I saw her on my flight. Dark curly hair and a gorgeous face?’’ Daniela joked back.
‘’Yes, that’s her.’’ Megan played along.
‘’I’m happy to see you again. I kind of missed you.’’ Daniela then confessed, catching the younger girl off guard a little.
‘’Me too.’’ she replied, smiling softly at her.
‘’Let’s get you home now though. You must be tired.’’ Megan then said, as she took the suitcase and bag from the girl. Daniela let her take them, cheeks heating up at the simple gesture.
‘’I slept on the plane for most of the time, so I am honestly not that tired. I am hungry though.’’ Daniela replied as they walked towards the exit of the airport.
‘’We should get you something to eat then. How about we drop your stuff off at your apartment and then we can go out for some food? Or I can cook you something at my place? Whatever you want.’’ Megan smiled at her.
‘’Hm, that depends, how good of a cook are you?’’ Daniela asked. Even though she would ask the girl to cook for her anyways, just so they could hang out at her apartment together, alone.
‘’I have never gotten any complaints, not even from Lara and Manon, and you know those two are brutally honest.’’ the younger girl replied.
‘’I’ll take that offer then. I’m craving a home-cooked meal anyways. I’ve been eating them for a whole two weeks now, so anything else will just disappoint me.’’ Daniela joked.
‘’I’ll make you something good then. There’s this Chinese dish my mom always made. I was going to make it this weekend so I have all the ingredients. Let me cook that for you.’’ Megan said, already excited for the girl to try her cooking, and her mother’s recipe. And for her to be at her apartment of course. Any time spent with the girl really.
When they get to Megan’s car, she throws the girl’s bags in the backseat, before she gets into the driver’s seat. She had let Daniela connect her phone to her car to play some music, and for pretty much the entire ride they had just enjoyed some soft music in silence.
When they got to Daniela’s apartment, Megan helped her carry her stuff into her room, before they went back inside Megan’s car to go to her apartment. Megan was nervous. She had never been alone with the girl before. Not like that. Not in a completely private place, that also just so happened to be her home. At this point she had a full blown crush on the girl, and that terrified her, because what if Daniela didn’t like her back?
Daniela felt the exact same way. Her interest had turned into full blown feelings, and she wanted nothing but to be with the girl. She had thought about it in the car, making a move on the girl as her eyes dropped down from the girl’s eyes to her lips every time she glanced at her. They were going to be completely alone, and in private. She wasn’t sure if Megan liked her like that, not because she wasn’t showing any signs, because she was. They both were. But because Daniela was afraid that maybe she had suddenly gone stupid and had misread the signs. She was so scared to get her heart broken, that it almost felt better to just cling onto crushing on the girl, than to actually confess and potentially get with her. It was a risk, and if it backfired, it would ruin everything. And that scared her. But who knew what the night was going to bring. Maybe a spur of confidence would hit her and she would actually make a move. Or maybe she would finally reach the point in which she simply could not resist the girl any longer.
When they pulled up to Megan’s apartment complex, Daniela’s eyes widened a little. It seemed fancy. Not billionaire fancy, but a lot fancier than her own building, though the bar for that was low. Megan parked her car in the lot, on her designated spot, before they got out and she led the girl to her apartment.
‘’So, welcome to my crib.’’ Megan said jokingly as she opened the door to her apartment.
Daniela looked around for a bit, as she walked in. The apartment was organized, clean, neat, but it still felt homey and looked like someone lived in it. The living room consisted of a large black leather sofa, a glass coffee table, white dressers, some shelves with pictures and trinkets on it, and what was probably the biggest television Daniela had ever seen in real life hung on the wall. The kitchen island had a marble look, as did the kitchen counter, and she had one of those refrigerators with a screen and that could spit out ice cold water and ice cubes.
‘’So, there is this soup that my mom always made for me whenever I was sick, and she taught me the recipe. Every time I eat it, it feels nostalgic. I was thinking of making that for you.’’ Megan said as she kicked off her shoes at the door, putting them neatly in the little shoe cabinet she had.
‘’Sounds good. I’m really curious how well you cook, and about your mom’s dish.’’ Daniela said, now turning to the younger girl again.
‘’Great, I’m excited for you to try it as well. Also, terribly sorry, but as an Asian I must ask you to take off your shoes.’’ the younger girl then said, and Daniela chuckled.
‘’Sorry, I’m such a bad guest for barging into your home with my shoes on.’’ she said as she took them off. Megan took them from her, before she put them in the shoe cabinet next to her own.
‘’Do you have any allergies or foods you don’t eat, by the way?’’ she then asked.
‘’No, I eat everything.’’ the Latina replied as she walked around the apartment a little while Megan got busy in the kitchen.
‘’Can I offer you something to drink? I have water, iced tea, soda, wine, beer, coffee, tea, anything really.’’ Megan asked as she grabbed the pans she needed.
‘’Soda’s fine, thank you.’’ Daniela smiled at her.
While Megan busied herself in the kitchen, Daniela wandered around the living room, looking at the pictures that stood in frames on the dressers and shelves.
There was one of Megan as a little kid, and Daniela melted at the sight. She was adorable, even though she was missing a front tooth in the picture. There was also one with a boy, which she assumed to be her brother, since they looked kind of similar. And then there was another one with her whole family, and one photo of a dog. There were also a few pictures of her with Lara and Manon.
‘’That was in Hawaii, right after my graduation. I took Manon and Lara on a trip there. My mom absolutely adored them and they teased the hell out of me when they saw my old bedroom there.’’ Megan’s voice suddenly sounded from beside her, causing her to jump a little.
‘’Here.’’ the girl then said, as she handed her a glass of soda. Daniela took it, her eyes meeting Megan’s, hands lightly brushing as the girl handed her the glass. She was standing close to her, and Daniela couldn’t help her eyes from dropping from the girl’s eyes to her lips, before she cleared her throat.
‘’Thanks. These photos are all adorable, especially that one. You were really cute as a kid.’’ Daniela said, as she pointed at the photo.
‘’I’m not sure if cute is the word I’d use to describe me as a kid. I was honestly so weird. Even weirder than I am now.’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’Nothing changed then. Weird and cute then, and still weird and cute now.’’ Daniela commented, trying to sound confident. Megan felt her cheeks heat up at her words. At this point the tension was through the roof. But neither of them had the balls yet to make a proper move. And so Megan just cleared her throat, averted her gaze, and went back into the kitchen to continue cooking.
When Daniela was done looking around, she joined the younger girl in the kitchen.
‘’Anything I can help with?’’ her voice suddenly sounded next to Megan, and this time it was her turn to jump a little.
‘’Uh, no, please, allow me. You can just sit back and relax. Let me take care of you.’’ Megan replied. Daniela felt her heart flutter at the last part. Lord could this woman get any more attractive? Or was Daniela just too far gone already?
After about half and hour of Daniela watching Megan cook from her spot on the sofa, Megan starts putting the hot dishes on the kitchen island, and Daniela takes that as her cue to get up and join her.
‘’Here you go madam, bon appetit.’’ Megan said as Daniela took her seat at the kitchen island.
‘’It smells so good. I can’t wait to try it.’’ Daniela said as she inhaled the delicious scent of the food in front of her.
Megan joined her, but waited for Daniela to take her first bite. When she did, her eyes closed, seemingly in bliss.
‘’This is amazing, Megan. I needed this.’’ Daniela chuckled as she savoured the taste.
‘’I’m glad you like it.’’ Megan smiled, whisker dimples showing, and Daniela melted at the sight. If she had had the balls to do it, she would have just smashed their lips together now.
As they ate, they chatted, about Daniela’s stay in Atlanta, and about Megan’s boring work weeks, before she pulled out her laptop to show her the Gabriela character for her game.
When they finished their food, Megan started cleaning up the kitchen, and despite the younger girl’s protests, Daniela helped her put all the dishes in the dishwasher. And as they cleaned up the kitchen together, this cosy, homey feeling washed over the older girl as she watched Megan clean. She could get used to this.
‘’So, now that I am here anyways, why don’t we take this as a chance for me to prove to you that I can totally beat you in Mario Kart.’’ Daniela said once all was cleaned up. They had talked about this over the phone, Daniela betting that she could beat the girl in the game, and Megan saying she couldn’t.
‘’Deal.’’ Megan said confidently.
And so after dinner, they settled on the sofa as Megan set up the game on her television.
‘’Alright, ready to get your ass beat?’’ Daniela said as she watched the countdown of the first race.
‘’Are you talking to yourself or me?’’ Megan shot back, before the race started. During the race, the two girls were completely focused. Daniela played as Rosalia, while Megan took King Boo. At first, Megan was in first place, Daniela being in second. But then, the older girl hit her with a blue shell, and overtook her. Megan didn’t have time to recover from it, as other characters hit her with red shells every time she tried to get closer to Daniela again.
‘’Ha! Suck on that.’’ Daniela exclaimed as she finished first.
‘’Beginner’s luck.’’ Megan retorted.
The second race started, Daniela was in first place for most of the race, Megan trailing right behind her. Until, right before the finish, Megan hit her with the red shell she had been keeping for a whole lap now, waiting for just the right moment.
‘’Megan, don’t. Megan, don’t!’’ Daniela yelled as she saw Megan get ready to shoot the shell at her. But Megan didn’t listen. She just grinned, before she shot it. Daniela watched her character tumble right before the finish line, not just Megan, but two others overtaking her, landing her in fourth place.
''No!'' she yelled. Megan just laughed. That contagious laugh that Daniela couldn’t get enough of.
‘’You stupid! Joder!’’ the Latina yelled as she shoved Megan’s shoulder.
‘’Suck on that.’’ Megan repeated the older girl’s words from the previous round.
For the next two rounds, Megan used a variety of strategies, getting first place in both. Daniela yelled profanities and curses in both Spanish and English throughout both races as she kept losing.
‘’So much for beating me, huh?’’ Megan said cockily as they watched the little ceremony at the screen, with Megan ranking higher than the Cuban.
‘’Not fair! You used dirty strategies. Besides, I’m your guest. You’re supposed to let me win. Such a bad host.’’ Daniela sulked.
‘’Work smarter, not harder.’’ Megan commented.
‘’Do you want a chance to redeem yourself with another race?’’ the younger girl then asked.
‘’No, now it’s not fun anymore.’’ Daniela said dramatically.
‘’You’re such a sore loser.’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’Yes, and I will be petty about this for the next week at least.’’ Daniela shot back. But it was all jokes. Because in reality, both of their hearts were beating out of their chests. Spending time with each other, it felt easy, safe, comfortable. It felt right. They both felt it.
‘’So, what do you want to do then, if not another race?’’ Megan asked once their laughter had died down a little again.
‘’Maybe we can just watch a movie and relax a little? I mean, your living room is basically a movie theatre with a tv like that.’’ Daniela said.
‘’Oh, wait! You should see the lights I installed recently. Watch.’’ Megan said, her eyes lighting up as she got up from the couch to grab a little remote. With the press of a button, the main lights went off and the mood lights came on. There was a faint glow coming from around the tv screen, then dim lights on the wall behind the couch, and a strip of light surrounding the whole living room along the corners between the ceiling and the walls, all the way through the kitchen as well. And then small lights that looked like little stars painted the ceiling of the living room. It looked magical.
‘’You installed this yourself?’’ Daniela asked, as she looked at the beautiful lights that now illuminated the apartment.
‘’Yeah, I do most of the work here in my apartment, installing things, fixing things. Turns out I’m pretty good with my hands.’’ the younger girl said, immediately getting flustered at how that last part sounded. But Daniela just smiled, somewhat of a grin.
‘’I don’t doubt it.’’ she said, and Megan felt her face get hot.
‘’I always have to call maintenance for the littlest of things because I know nothing. I had to pay some dude to install my tv even.’’ Daniela then chuckled.
‘’Call me next time. I’ll fix or install whatever it is for free for you.’’ Megan commented.
‘’Oh, so I got myself a personal little handyman, or well, handywoman, now? That’s kind of hot.’’ Daniela joked.
‘’Please, that sounds like the start of a really bad porn.’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’It does. But I’ll keep it in mind. The calling you to fix things, not the bad porn.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’Good. So, since you lost, I will allow you to pick the movie.’’ Megan then said, as she plopped back down onto the sofa next to the older girl.
‘’Oh, so a petty-pick? How thoughtful of you.’’ she said sarcastically.
‘’I know. That’s what makes me so nice.’’ Megan shot back.
They opened Netflix, and for a little while she just let the older girl scroll as she got them some snacks and drinks in the kitchen.
‘’Did you find one yet?’’ the younger girl asked once she had returned, sitting back down next to the girl.
‘’I’ve always wanted to watch this one, but I never got to.’’ Daniela said.
‘’Passengers? That’s a good one. Perfect balance of romance, drama and action.’’ Megan said, remembering the movie.
‘’You’ve seen it already?’’ Daniela asked.
‘’Yeah, but I’m down to watch it again. I saw it a while ago anyways.’’ Megan smiled at her. Daniela could be wanting to watch the fucking Backyardigans with her for all she cared. She just wanted to spend time with the girl.
‘’Alright, but no spoilers.’’ Daniela warned playfully, as she pressed play.
In the beginning, there was some space between them. Both wanted to get closer, but were too afraid to make that move. But a tension hung between them. One neither of them could deny. Daniela kept asking questions about what was happening, to which Megan would just chuckle and say she just had to keep watching.
When they settled a little more into the plot, Daniela couldn’t take it anymore. Slowly but surely, she kept shuffling closer to the girl, until their thighs touched. Megan looked down at their flush legs for a second, feeling her heartbeat speed up at the touch. And then her breath hitched, as Daniela laid her head on her shoulder. For a second, Megan tensed up, before she eased into it, and let her own head rest against the older’s. Daniela smiled at the silent acceptance of her physical touch.
They continued watching the movie, Daniela occasionally making a comment about what was happening or asking a question. Their hearts were beating a little heavier than usual. Their skins just a little hotter, cheeks a little redder. And then the girl sat up, removing herself from Megan.
‘’I need to use the restroom. Can you pause it for a second?’’ Daniela asked softly.
‘’Of course. Bathroom is that way.’’ Megan replied, pausing the movie.
She watched as Daniela disappeared into the bathroom, before she let out a deep breath as she leaned back on the sofa. She chuckled to herself. She was so far gone when it came to the older girl. She had had crushes before, girls she had feelings for, but never anything like this. This was so much more intense and deep than anything she had ever felt. It was almost painful.
Daniela wasn’t doing much better either, clutching her heart in an attempt to steady it as she sat on the toilet. The longer she was with the girl, the closer they got, the more their bodies touched, the more she felt her control slip away. And she knew, that if they kept this up, it was only a matter of time before she lost it entirely. Part of her was scared of it. But part of her wanted it to happen.
When Daniela came back, Megan was scrolling on her phone, her arm rested on the backrest of the sofa. Daniela took this as her opportunity to sit down right next to her, their bodies flush, the girl’s arm now kind of around her. Megan looked up when she felt the girl’s body against her own. She swallowed at the position they were in now, with her arm basically around the girl’s shoulders, and in her rush of nerves, she retracted her arm.
But before she could, a hand grabbed hers.
‘’Leave it.’’ Daniela said, eyes staring back at her own, gently pulling her arm back around her shoulders, and Megan let her.
She pressed play again, and when she felt the older girl cuddle up to her further, settling comfortably in her arms, Megan allowed her loose grip around the girl’s shoulder to become a slightly firmer one, pulling her closer.
If a doctor could hear their heartbeats right now, he’d diagnose them with a heart problem with how rapidly they beat. But it felt good. Too good almost. Daniela’s body fit perfectly in her embrace. They felt each other’s warmth radiate off of their skin, inhaling each other’s scents. Megan’s fingers started subconsciously drawing small patterns and circles on her arm, and Daniela felt her breath get a little more unsteady and shallow at the touch, accompanied by a tingly feeling in her lower abdomen as she subconsciously pressed her thighs together just a little.
Megan just let herself drown in the girl’s presence, breathing in her sweet floral scent, hand running up and down her arm, skin soft underneath her fingertips, body warm against her own. It was the best thing she had felt in a long time. In forever, honestly. Never had she felt anything that just felt so, right. And suddenly, the 25 year wait seemed worth it.
‘’So, what did you think?’’ Megan asked softly as she closed Netflix and opened Spotify to play some soft music on her tv.
‘’I loved it. Tragic but happy ending. It was great.’’ Daniela replied. They were beating around the bush, they both knew it. It was just a matter of who would either grow the confidence, or snap, now.
‘’And I liked cuddling with you. That may have actually been the best part of the movie.’’ Daniela added, now looking up at Megan, who looked down to meet her eyes.
Their faces were only a few inches apart now, and Megan watched Daniela’s eyes drop down to her lips as she nibbled slightly on her own bottom lip. Megan felt her entire body heat up at their proximity. For a few seconds neither said anything. Neither moved. Neither dared to.
Daniela was the one to break the silence.
‘’Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s feeling this.’’ she said, her voice barely above a whisper, breath warm on Megan’s lips.
And there it was. The first slip. A confession whispered from Daniela’s lips to Megan’s. Megan swallowed. It was getting real now. And it was so intense, it was almost too much.
‘’You’re not.’’ Megan replied, voice almost shaking a little.
And that was all Daniela needed to hear. Her hand found it’s way to Megan’s cheek, caressing it, cupping her face, before it slid to her nape. Megan shuddered at the touch. And then Daniela inched closer, breaths short and shallow, hitching when she felt the girl’s warm breath on her lips. Their hearts were about ready to combust in their chests. Daniela’s eyes found hers one last time, before she closed them, and she closed the distance.
Butterflies erupted in both of their stomachs, sending a fluttering feeling throughout their entire bodies at the feeling of one another’s soft lips on their own. For a moment neither of them moved, as Megan let out a deep breath through her nose, melting into the kiss, her hand dropping down to Daniela’s waist.
The kiss was sweet, soft, tender, filled with all the emotions and feelings they had withheld from one another for weeks now. Though the kiss was short, Daniela had never felt anything as intense as this. Perhaps she had never truly been in love before. Not in the way she was with the girl. And as for Megan, she had only ever shared one kiss with someone, and it wasn’t entirely by choice. Something that had happened during a drinking game in college. So this, this was entirely uncharted territory for her. But she trusted that Daniela, that her own heart, would guide her onto the right paths.
They didn’t pull away entirely, faces still close, hands still on one another. They didn’t speak. They let their eyes do that. Megan’s had a sparkle in them, one Daniela instantly fell in love with, and Daniela’s, God Megan could just drown in their honey brown depth.
Daniela then leaned in again, with a bit more fervour this time, pressing her lips onto Megan’s just a little harder. Megan’s grip on her waist tightened at the feeling. Then Daniela started moving, her lips moving softly against the younger’s. Megan just followed her, in everything that she did. In that moment, Megan knew that she was screwed already. Knowing the Cuban’s lips would be her new addiction. She never wanted to stop feeling them against her own. Daniela felt like she was in heaven. The taste of the girl’s lips her new favourite.
As their kiss grew a little more heated, Megan’s free hand found its way to Daniela’s thigh, softly caressing it. Daniela gasped at the feeling, her lips parting. Megan took that as her chance to slip her tongue into the girl’s mouth, gaining a little bit of confidence and dominance. Daniela let out a soft moan at the feeling of Megan’s tongue swirling around her own.
Daniela then moved to straddle the girl, and Megan helped her slip onto her lap. They pulled away shortly, to catch their breaths. Megan’s hands caressed her waist, fingertips gliding over the little bit of skin her cropped top exposed. Daniela gasped at the sensation, involuntarily grinding her hips into the girl. Now it was Megan’s turn to let out a gasp, as she could already feel something starting to stir in her pants.
Megan then connected their lips again. Both of their eyes had grown a little darker now, their skin feeling like it was on fire with the amount of heat they were both feeling. Megan’s head was reeling, while Daniela felt dizzy with passion and raw desire.
Daniela rolled her hips into the younger girl’s body again when she felt Megan gently bite and suckle on her bottom lip. Megan’s hands subconsciously guided her hips to move against her. And with every roll of her hips, Megan could feel herself get harder and harder, the straining against her sweatpants getting worse by the second. Daniela felt it too, her growing bulge, but it only spurred her on to keep going.
Eventually it became too much for Megan, and she pulled away from the kiss, letting her head rest against the girl’s shoulder.
‘’Fuck, Dani. I-I need you.’’ she mumbled desperately against the girl’s body. Daniela was peppering her neck with small pecks and soft kisses, stopping right below her ear.
‘’Then take me.’’ she whispered into the girl’s ear, and that just about sent Megan over the edge.
In one swift motion, Megan picked the girl up as she stood up from the sofa. Daniela gasped at the action, as her legs instinctively wrapped around the girl’s waist, her grip on the girl’s shoulders tightening, while Megan’s hands held her by her thighs. The girl was strong, picking Daniela up like it was nothing.
As Megan carried her towards her bedroom, Daniela realised what was about to happen. And suddenly she felt nervous, her heart beating so hard in her chest, she wondered if it was even healthy. She could almost hear her own heartbeat, could almost feel that vein pulse in her own neck. Never had she shared a moment as intimate as this one with anyone. Never had she given her heart, her soul, her all, to someone before. But she wanted to give Megan everything. Tonight, she wanted to completely surrender herself to the girl. She wanted to do more than just feel her. She wanted to become one with her.
To Megan, everything was new. But she wasn’t afraid. Not anymore. It was like her mind had shut off and her heart had taken over. And her heart knew exactly what to do. It was as if some sort of quiet confidence had washed over her. A sense of peace within their storm of desire. Daniela felt it too. The calm that was Megan even in this moment. It grounded her.
Megan gently laid her down on the bed, on her back, before she climbed onto the bed herself. Daniela watched as Megan took her oversized shirt off, revealing her tight abdomen and toned body. Daniela’s breath hitched at the sight alone, hands involuntarily moving up to rake down her toned abs. Megan chuckled at the way the girl was looking at her, the way she touched her.
‘’Like what you see?’’ Megan asked softly as she hovered over the girl, arm placed on the mattress next to Daniela’s head to support herself, her body positioned in between the girl’s legs.
‘’Very much.’’ Daniela replied, eyes locked onto the younger’s.
‘’Well, I’m all yours, milady.’’ she said with a soft smile, before she connected their lips again.
Daniela’s hands moved up to the back of the girl’s neck, playing with some loose strands of hair that had fallen out of her bun. Megan’s hand roamed around her waist, slipping underneath her top to caress her bare abdomen. Daniela felt goosebumps spread at the way the girl’s fingertips danced along her skin.
Her breath hitched when she felt Megan’s fingers graze her breast. Megan’s hand then slid the piece of fabric up, before she broke the kiss to take if off of the girl, and Daniela raised her arms to help her.
Once the piece of clothing was off, Megan stared down at her body, swallowing hard. Daniela felt hot under her gaze. Heat starting to pool in her panties that were probably already soaked by now.
When Megan leaned down again, it was to connect her lips to the girl’s neck, peppering her skin in soft kisses.
‘’You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, Daniela Avanzini.’’ she whispered into the girl’s ear, before leaving a soft kiss on the shell of her ear. Daniela almost moaned at her words. It was too much. This was all way too much for her to handle. Yet she didn’t want her to stop. She needed her.
Megan trailed soft kisses from her neck, down to her shoulders, her collarbones, her hand fumbling with the clasp of her bra, before it snapped open and she took it off of the girl without stopping her kisses. Her lips travelled to her breast, and Daniela gasped when her lips wrapped themselves around her nipple, tongue swirling around it. Megan had no idea what she was doing, yet she knew exactly what she was doing. It was as if some sort of natural instinct had been activated within her.
Megan made sure to savour every bit of the girl, every little gasp and moan she let out as her lips travelled down further, to her abdomen, until they reached the waistband of her sweatpants. Daniela’s hips involuntarily bucked upwards at the feeling.
Then Megan pulled away, and when Daniela looked down to see what was going on, she found Megan staring back at her, fingers hooked on the waistband of her pants.
‘’Can I?’’ she asked, and Daniela nodded.
‘’Please. I need you.’’ she breathed out.
And that was all Megan needed to hear, and she slowly slid the girl’s sweats down her legs, until they were off.
She started out with slow and soft kisses on her calve, hands caressing her thighs, before she kissed up to her thighs. Daniela instinctively parted her legs for the girl, who guided them to rest on her shoulders as she kissed closer and closer to her core, until her lips met her clad centre. It was a sight to behold, Megan’s head between her legs, hands on her thighs, legs wrapped around her shoulders.
Megan then hooked her fingers on the waistband of her panties, before she slid them off as well. Daniela was now entirely exposed in front of her. And it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. Part of her wanted to take it slow, to tease. But she needed her too badly. She needed to taste her. Daniela felt like she was going crazy already. Her head spinning and heart giving in.
Megan leaned down again, and Daniela threw her head back when she felt the girl’s lips wrap around her clit. Sweet and breathy moans left her lips as Megan’s tongue swirled around her sensitive bud, occasionally gliding through her wet folds, the older girl’s hands gripping the sheets tightly. The straining in Megan’s pants was becoming almost unbearable now. But she didn’t care. Daniela’s pleasure was her priority.
Daniela was close, but then Megan pulled away. She was about to complain, when Megan’s thumb started drawing circles on her clit, replacing her mouth. Megan moved up to face the girl again. She wanted to see her when she came undone in her hands. Daniela’s hands found the back of her neck again, nails digging into her skin when Megan slipped in two of her fingers, pumping them in and out of her at a slow pace, curling them at every thrust. Her fingers were long, and skilled, and they were hitting every spot. But it wasn’t enough. Daniela needed more. Daniela needed to feel her. All of her.
‘’Megan, fuck, I-I need you. I need you inside.’’ Daniela breathed out against her lips. Megan felt her cock twitch in her pants at her words. Megan didn’t say anything. She just planted a soft kiss on the girl’s lips, before she sat up.
Daniela watched, as the girl slid her sweats down her legs, eyes immediately hooked on the outline of her cock in her boxers. Megan felt hot underneath the girl’s intense gaze. She then slid down her boxers as well, her cock springing free against her abdomen. Daniela swallowed hard at the sight. The girl was big. The biggest she had ever seen in real life. Fuck, the girl was going to ruin her. But Daniela was more than okay with that.
Megan got in between the girl’s legs again, parting them a little more with her hands as she leaned down. Her lips met Daniela’s again in a passionate kiss, as her member rested against the girl’s centre.
And then Megan pulled away from the kiss again, hand stroking her shaft slowly.
‘’I-I don’t have any-‘’ she started, but Daniela was quick to cut her off.
‘’It’s okay. I’m on birth control, and I’m clean.’’ she said. Megan nodded.
‘’Me too. Clean, I mean. Not on birth control.’’ she said with a chuckle. Daniela melted at how, even in this heated moment, the girl remained soft and gentle. It all felt so incredibly safe with her.
‘’I’ve actually never, you know. I’ve never gone further than a kiss.’’ Megan admitted. Daniela knew already, though Megan didn’t know that she knew.
‘’It’s okay.’’ Daniela reassured her, hand caressing her cheek, before she tucked a strand of loose hair behind the girl’s ear.
‘’We can go slow, take our time. There’s no pressure here. Anything feels good, as long as it’s you.’’ she added. Megan nodded slowly, before Daniela pulled her into kiss filled with not lust, but love. She felt vulnerable, they both did. But that vulnerability only deepened their bond. It was a strength, not a weakness.
As their lips moved softly together, Megan lined herself up with the girl’s entrance, dragging her tip through her folds a few times to spread her slick on it, before she slowly pushed inside. Daniela gasped into the girl’s mouth as she entered her. Slowly, Megan pushed inside of her, inch by inch disappearing into the girl’s warmth. They both let out a moan as the younger girl bottomed out, their hips flush.
‘’Fuck, Megan.’’ Daniela breathed out at the delicious stretch, brow furrowing slightly.
‘’Am I hurting you?’’ Megan asked, a little worried.
‘’No, on the contrary.’’ Daniela replied with a chuckle.
Megan connected their lips again, as she slowly started to move. Her thrusts started out slow, and deep, and Daniela let out quiet gasps and breathy moans at every single one of them, her grip firm on the back of the girl’s neck in an attempt to ground herself. Daniela was tight around her, hugging her member deliciously. She had never felt a pleasure as intense as this one before. Neither of them had.
Once Megan had found a steady rhythm, her pace increased a little, Daniela’s legs wrapped around her waist to keep her close as their tongues danced together in a dance only they knew the steps to.
Every little moan and sound the older girl let out only spurred Megan on to keep going. Daniela felt like she was losing her mind. She was hitting every spot in the most delicious way ever, head pressing onto her cervix every time she bottomed out. With every thrust, she felt herself getting closer, and when Megan’s fingers found her clit again, she let out a sharp breath.
‘’Fuck, Megan. I’m close.’’ Daniela breathed out against her lips. Megan connected her lips to the girl’s neck as she kept up her pace, feeling the girl starting to clench around her.
‘’Let go for me, mi reina.’’ Megan whispered into her ear. And Daniela wasn’t sure if it were the words of encouragement, or the girl speaking Spanish to her, but her thighs started to shake as her walls fluttered around the girl’s shaft, letting out a rather loud moan as she came undone underneath the girl. Megan thought it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, watching the girl fall apart underneath her touch, her lips parted, breath heavy, skin glistening with sweat.
Megan helped her ride out her high by thrusting into her slowly while Daniela tried to catch her breath. That was hands down the most intense orgasm she had ever felt. And she wanted to feel it again. The girl had taken her to heaven, and now she wanted her to take her beyond. And when she did, she wanted to take the girl there with her.
Before Megan could say anything, Daniela flipped them over, the girl slipping out of her in the process. She hadn’t come yet, and she was still rock hard. But Daniela was going to take good care of her now.
‘’My turn.’’ she whispered against the girl’s lips with a small grin, as she straddled her, hips rolling forward, the girl’s cock twitching against her dripping centre.
Daniela connected her lips to the girl’s, passionately making out with her, hips grinding down onto the girl as Megan’s hands guided her hips. Then her lips travelled down to her jaw, her neck, her shoulders. The soft kisses left a tingling sensation on her skin. When Daniela’s lips made their way down to her abdomen, the girl’s hand wrapped around her throbbing member, stroking it slowly. Megan let out a shaky breath at the way her hand squeezed around her.
She pumped up and down her length a couple of times, planting a few more kisses on her abs, before she connected her lips to her tip. She kissed the head of her cock a few times, hand still moving up and down her length, before her lips fully wrapped around her head, taking it into her mouth. Megan let her head fall back as she felt the girl’s tongue swirl around the head of her cock. Daniela could taste herself on her length, licking up both her own release and the girl’s precum. It was a delicious combination.
She then started moving her mouth up and down her length, taking in more and more of the girl’s member every time she went down, until she almost reached the base. It was a sight to behold. The girl between her legs, lips wrapped around her cock, mouth moving up and down her length. It was just too fucking good. And that’s when a chuckle slipped out of Megan’s mouth.
Daniela heard it, and she removed her mouth from the girl’s length, looking up at her with curious eyes.
‘’What?’’ the older girl asked. Megan just shook her head, mumbling something along the lines of ‘nothing’. Daniela didn’t buy it though, and she went up to straddle the girl again, facing her.
‘’What’s so funny, miss Skiendiel?’’ she asked again, her face now close to Megan's. Megan didn’t say anything, she just admired her for a second, caressing her cheek, tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear. Daniela melted into her touch.
‘’Nothing. I just, I guess I’m just not quite believing yet that I get to be lucky enough to have you.’’ Megan answered honestly, her eyes staring back at Daniela’s with a type and an amount of admiration she had never seen anyone look at her with before. Like she was her whole world.
‘’Stop.’’ Daniela chuckled, now getting a little shy.
‘’I mean it. It feels like I am about to wake up from the best dream I’ve ever had, only to realise none of it was real. My head’s still wrapping around it.’’ Megan said softly. Daniela’s heart melted at her words.
‘’But it’s not a dream. This is real.’’ the older girl replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
‘’Thank God.’’ Megan smiled.
Daniela’s hands then found Megan’s face, fingers grabbing onto her glasses, taking them off. It was the first time Daniela had ever seen her without those big glasses of hers. And fuck did she look beautiful. She was perfect in Daniela’s eyes. She stared for a moment, admiring, before she left a soft kiss on each of the girl's cheekbones, right underneath her beautiful eyes, a gesture that made Megan feel so seen, so appreciated, so loved, that she almost felt like crying. Then their lips met again. The kiss was slow, soft, yet passionate, and a small gasp slipped from the both of them when Daniela started grinding her core on the girl’s length again.
While Megan’s hands guided her hips, Daniela brought one of hers down to where their bodies met, taking the girl’s member in her hand while the other stayed at the back of her neck. She then lined the girl up with her entrance, before she sank down on her until their hips met again. Both let out a sharp breath at the feeling.
They kept making out, as Dani rolled her hips into the girl. Megan was sat up straight now, hands helping her hips move. When the pleasure became too much for Daniela, and she broke the kiss to throw her head back and let out a moan, Megan took the chance to connect her lips to the girl’s neck. Her kisses started soft, before her teeth grazed her skin, eventually softly sucking and biting down on it. Daniela moaned every time she did, feeling herself get close again.
‘’Fuck, Megan. I’m close again.’’ Daniela breathed out, letting her head fall on Megan’s shoulder, teeth sinking into her skin at the amount of pleasure she was feeling.
‘’Come with me.’’ she then breathed into the younger’s ear.
At those words, Megan flipped them over so she was on top again. This time she made sure they stayed connected. Daniela’s breath was sharp as her back hit the mattress, but she didn’t have time to think, Megan immediately grabbing her legs and letting them rest on her shoulder as she pushed into her with deep and slow thrusts, pulling out almost entirely every time, only to push back into her, slow, but strongly. She was hitting spots Daniela herself didn’t even know existed, and she became a moaning mess underneath the girl. Megan kept kissing down on her body, only adding to Daniela’s pleasure, and she could feel that tight coil in her stomach ready to snap again.
Megan felt the way the girl was clenching around her. The way her breath was growing uneven. And so she increased her pace a little, now also chasing her own climax.
Both of their moans filled the room. Daniela was the first to come. And the way her walls fluttered around Megan’s length then set off a reaction in Megan too, climaxing as well. Daniela felt the girl’s release spill into her, and Megan thrusted in a few more time to help them both ride out their orgasms.
‘’Fuck, Dani.’’ Megan breathed out as she felt her body relax against the older girl’s. Daniela chuckled, before she pulled the girl into a soft and sweet kiss again.
‘’Not going to lie, that was without a doubt the best sex I’ve ever had.’’ Daniela said, causing Megan to chuckle.
‘’Well, you have no one to beat with me, but even if you did, you would have. And I’m glad I did well.’’ Megan joked back, as she pulled out of her and laid down beside her, pulling the girl closer. Daniela cuddled up to her, laying her head on her chest.
‘’I would want to say it wasn't because of what you did, but because you were the one who did it, but it’s definitely both. I can’t believe this was your first time. You’re a natural.’’ Daniela said proudly. Megan chuckled at her words, feeling a sense of pride wash over her.
‘’All I did was follow my heart.’’ Megan replied, before she planted a soft kiss on top of the girl’s head, her fingertips running up and down her arm as her arm was wrapped around the girl’s shoulder.
‘’Your heart’s beating really fast.’’ Daniela then said softly, as the steady but fast beating of the girl’s heart sounded underneath her ear.
‘’I know. It’s for you.’’ Megan replied, and Daniela felt her own heart speed up at those words.
‘’Mine too.’’ she replied. Megan smiled at her words.
A comfortable silence fell between them in which they just laid there, savouring each other’s presence. Daniela never wanted to leave the girl’s arms again. Being with the girl felt too good. If heaven had an attic, Daniela was in it now, with the girl.
Megan was still wrapping her head around the whole thing. She didn’t understand how she had done it, getting a girl like Daniela. It almost felt too good to be true. This type of love, this type of affection, it had been what she had been looking for, longing for, since forever. This was the kind of love she meant when she talked about what she wanted to Lara and Manon whenever they’d come up with a plan again for Megan to lose her virginity. This was what she saw when she’d envision her ideal love story in her head. Daniela was everything she had ever wanted. And she was here. With her. And she had her. She had her all to herself. And despite how caring and selfless Megan was by nature, she was not sharing this time. She wanted Daniela to be hers. In a way that she was no one else’s.
She wanted to take care of her. To make her smile. To make her laugh. To make her feel safe, and comfortable. She wanted to hold her, and kiss her. She wanted to make her feel good. She wanted to take her on cute dates. She wanted to cuddle with her at home. Cook for her. She wanted to fall asleep and wake up next to her. She wanted her. And Daniela wanted nothing less.
‘’Let me run a bath for us and clean up, hm?’’ Megan was the first to break the silence. Their bodies were sticky with sweat, their thighs covered in both of their juices.
‘’That sounds good.’’ Daniela replied.
They both slowly sat up, but when Daniela was about to get up fully, Megan pulled her back, laying her back down, before pressing a soft kiss onto her lips.
‘’Let me. You stay here. I’ll come and get you when it’s ready.’’ she whispered against the girl’s lips, before she got up.
Daniela watched her disappear into the bathroom. She chuckled when the girl was out of sight, looking down, a blush creeping up onto her cheeks, softly biting down on her bottom lip as it all sank in. She almost couldn't believe it. Megan liked her back. Megan wanted her as well. And fuck had she been with her tonight.
Daniela heard the water starting to run, and a few seconds later Megan walked out of the bathroom. She got onto the bed a little, before she put both of her arms underneath her body, picking her up bridal style. Daniela’s arms wrapped around her neck. She felt flustered at the action. Megan was such a gentlewoman. Such a giver. Daniela felt spoiled already, and she wondered what she had done to deserve her care. But just her being her was enough for Megan.
Megan carried her into the bathroom, before she gently set her down into the large bathtub that was filling up with hot water now.
‘’Are you getting in as well?’’ Daniela then asked, as she let the warm water envelop her and soothe her soring muscles.
‘’In a bit. Just have to do a few things first. But I will join you in a minute.’’ Megan said softly, her hand cupping the girl’s cheek, before she pecked her lips.
While the bath filled up, Megan went to change her bedsheets. There was a mix of their juices and sweat on her sheets. She then went to her closet, grabbing a fresh set of clothes for both her and Daniela, putting them on the counter of the bathroom sink.
And then she joined the girl in the bath. Daniela scooted forward a little to let the girl sit down behind her, and Megans hands wrapped around her waist to pull her closer. Daniela let herself melt into her embrace, closing her eyes. She had never felt this safe and comfortable before.
For a moment neither of them spoke, but there were words burning on Daniela’s tongue. Things she wanted to say. Things she wanted to ask. But she was nervous. Scared to lose this moment they were having. But she needed to know. She needed to hear her say it.
‘’Megan?’’ she called out softly. Megan just hummed behind her. Daniela let out a deep breath, before she spoke up again.
‘’What does this mean? Tonight, us, I mean.’’ she asked, biting her bottom lip in nervousness.
‘’What do you mean?’’ the younger girl asked, brow furrowing.
‘’I mean, what are your feelings towards me? Your intentions? What was the meaning of what we did tonight?’’ she asked more clearly. Megan thought for a moment, finding the right words, before she answered. She could sense that Daniela was scared, insecure, that she needed a solid confirmation. And Megan wanted to give her that.
‘’I really, really like you, Dani. As way more than a friend. I have romantic feelings for you, a lot of them. And I want to be with you. I want to be in a relationship with you. To be your girlfriend. If you want that too. And tonight, what we did tonight, I did it to show you how much I love you.’’ she said, her voice steady, sure. Daniela felt relief wash over her at the firm confirmation.
‘’I love you, Daniela Avanzini.’’ Megan repeated, making sure the girl knew exactly how she felt about her. Daniela’s heart exploded at those words, and she needed a moment before she could reply.
‘’I feel the same way. I have liked you for a while now. I want to be with you too. To be your girlfriend. To fall asleep beside you at night, and to wake up next to you again in the morning. I want you, Megan. All of you. And, I love you too.’’ she replied. Megan smiled widely, giddily.
‘’Then let’s do it. Be my girlfriend, Daniela Avanzini.’’ Megan said, her hold around the girl’s waist tightening, head rested against the girl’s. Daniela couldn’t help but to smile either.
‘’Gladly.’’ she replied.
They cuddled some more, before they helped each other wash up and dry off. Daniela slipped into the oversized t-shirt Megan had grabbed for her, and the pair of panties that she had laid out for her.
‘’Why do you own panties?’’ Daniela asked teasingly as she leaned against the bathroom sink. Megan just chuckled as she slipped on a pair of pyjama pants.
‘’Uh, Lara and Manon love unannounced sleepovers, and so they at some point threw a bunch of their underwear and bra’s into one of my drawers.’’ Megan explained.
‘’So I am wearing your best friends’ underwear right now?’’ she continued to ask, narrowing her eyes at the girl in a playful manner.
‘’They’re washed though?’’ Megan replied, and Daniela lightly shook her head with a chuckle.
When they were dressed again, Daniela got into Megan’s bed, slipping underneath the clean sheets that smelled like fresh linen. Megan joined her after turning off all the lights in her apartment and locking her door. Daniela immediately cuddled up to her, and Megan’s arms instinctively wrapped around the girl while Daniela’s head rested on her chest and her hand rested on her abdomen, now covered by an oversized shirt.
‘’Can you tell me another story?’’ Daniela then asked softly, once all the lights were off, and Megan melted.
‘’Of course.’’ she replied.
And Megan started talking, about a memory of her and her friends. Daniela listened, slowly drifting off to sleep at the calming sound of the girl’s voice.
When Megan heard soft snores coming from the girl, she stopped talking, placing a soft kiss on top of the girls head.
‘’Good night, my love.’’ she whispered to the girl, before she herself, closed her eyes as well.
Morning arrived fast, and Daniela slowly stirred awake. Light filtered through the blinds as she squinted her eyes. Her hands searched for the familiar warmth she fell asleep with, but they couldn’t find it.
When she opened her eyes, Megan was gone, and she was alone in the girl’s large bed.
She sat up with a groan, looking around the room in search of the girl. And then she heard it. Soft sounds coming from the kitchen.
She furrowed her brow as she got out of the bed, opening the bedroom door that had been left ajar.
Megan was in the kitchen, her back facing her, as she cooked. Daniela smiled at the sight. For a second she was scared that Megan had left, despite this being the girl’s apartment.
Daniela slowly padded towards her, feet cool against the tiles, before she wrapped her arms around the girl, hugging her from behind, surprising her.
‘’What are you cooking?’’ she asked softly, making Megan jump a little at the sudden contact.
‘’Hey you. I wanted to surprise you with some breakfast in bed, but I guess you woke up a little sooner than expected.'' Megan chuckled, as she watched the bacon and eggs sizzle in the pan, bread toasting in the toaster, coffee machine warming up.
‘’I can go back if you want, pretend I know nothing?’’ Daniela asked jokingly, as she hopped onto the counter next to the girl. Megan turned to her, taking in the sight for a moment. She could get used to seeing the girl sitting on her kitchen counter wearing her oversized shirt while she cooked, and she stepped in between her legs, hands sliding up her bare thighs.
‘’Hm, no. I think I’d rather have you here with me now.’’ she replied, before kissing the girl’s lips sweetly.
‘’What a lucky woman I am.’’ Daniela chuckled against her lips.
‘’Anything to make you happy, mi amor.’’ Megan replied.
Their eyes then locked, Daniela’s expression turning more genuine now.
‘’I am happy.’’ she breathed against the girl’s lips. And for the first time in a long time, she meant it.
She had found her happiness again.
And her name was Megan Skiendiel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The weekend passed, with Daniela overthinking and questioning every choice she’s ever made, wondering where she had gone wrong. Tears fell, more than ever. It was like life came crashing down on her all at once. All the hurt, all the regret, it was all pouring out at once. Her heart ached, but it felt relieving. Like she had finally woken up from a bad dream.
She hadn’t really talked to anyone all weekend. She had gotten a few texts from Sophie and Sophia, but she hadn’t had the energy to reply to them. She had just stayed in her apartment all weekend. Thinking about what she would have done, what different choices she would have made, if she could go back in time, back to when she graduated high school.
She would have gone to college. She would have picked a degree that interested her, but also gave her some job security. She would have tried to make her dance dreams come true on the side. Or maybe she would have found peace with keeping it as a hobby. She would have lived the college life for four years, at some dorm, with some roommate that would turn out to be her best friend, or not. She would have date cute campus boys, or girls, though girls were pretty much still uncharted territory for her, never having been with one, but deep down knowing she swung both ways.
She would have done her schoolwork at quiet libraries or cosy café’s while drinking a hot cup of coffee, headphones plugged in, comfy sweater on. She would have gone to silly college parties to get wasted, then wake up with a pounding head and a bunch of regrets. She would have gone home to Atlanta every summer and Christmas to see her family. Then she would have graduated. She would have gotten a job, an apartment, a car, a life. Maybe she would have lived with a partner. She would have lived a normal life. A peaceful life. A happy life. A life filled with love and a sense of stability. Not this.
Megan’s words kept ringing in her head. It wasn’t too late to make a change yet. Maybe, if only she was brave enough to take the dive, she could still have this life. But she needed a plan first. She needed to figure out what she wanted first.
When Monday rolled around, and her rehearsals started again, she couldn’t help but to feel a sense of dread. Dancing was what she loved the most in the entire world, yet dancing right now, rehearsing, brought her anything but joy. Not necessarily because of the dancing itself, but for what she was dancing for. What she was rehearsing for. A life she didn’t want anymore.
She kept messing up, missing beats, too late, too early, too sloppy, too stiff. She eventually grew frustrated, and her tears fell again. She had to get the hell out of here. She couldn’t stay here. She couldn’t figure herself out here. Not like this. And so she grabbed her phone, and she dialled her boss’s number.
‘’Daniela? What’s up?’’ he said, picking up after a few rings.
‘’Hey, Raoul, I uh, I need a break, from dancing and everything.’’ she cut straight to the chase.
‘’A break? Is everything all right?’’ he asked, genuinely concerned. Raoul was a good boss, a nice guy who genuinely cared about his employees, who had always given Daniela some extra money on top of her salary whenever she was tight on rent for so called ‘good attitude and wonderful performance’. He wasn’t just her boss, he was also a friend, in a way.
‘’I don’t know.’’ she said honestly, voice breaking slightly.
‘’Qué pasa, mija? Dime.’’ he asked.
‘’I don’t know. I’m not happy, Raoul. I need some time to figure myself out. To figure out what I want. I can’t do that while I keep dancing here.’’ she answered honestly. It stayed quiet for a second.
‘’How long do you need?’’ he asked.
‘’I have enough money to miss one, maybe two weeks.’’ she replied. He sighed.
‘’How about two months? Eight weeks. Paid leave. Go and figure out what you want and where you want to go, Dani. Relax, do things for yourself, rest. And after that, if you still don’t feel like dancing, you can come and help Sebas behind the bar if you want. Does that sound like a good plan?’’ Raoul said, and Daniela couldn’t help her tears from falling.
‘’That’s too much, Raoul.’’ she said.
‘’Take it, before I put you on paid suspension instead.’’ he said, and Daniela chuckled.
‘’Thanks. You’re the best.’’ she replied, accepting his offer.
‘’Yeah, I’m kind of awesome sometimes.’’ he joked.
‘’Don’t ruin it now.’’ Daniela joked back.
‘’Go find your happiness again, mija. And give me a call when you feel like coming back again, or not. If this ends up being the end of this chapter, then that’s also okay.’’ he finally said. Daniela just nodded and thanked him, before they both bid each other their goodbyes, hanging up the phone.
She didn’t continue rehearsing. She just packed up her bag and left the practice room, knowing she wouldn’t be back here for a while. But her heart felt a little more at peace knowing that she could give herself a break now. That she could rest now. At least for a little bit.
The first week, she mostly stayed at her apartment, cleaning up, organising, sorting through all she owned, tossing some things away, rearranging some things. Some things brought back memories. Some happy. Some sad. And some so happy they made her sad. Nostalgia hit her hard. She missed those times. When she was just a kid. When things were still good. Tears fell. But it was okay. She was healing.
Sophie and Sophia had come to her apartment once, to ask her what was going on, why she wasn’t at rehearsals. She had explained everything to them over a cup of tea, and they understood. They had pulled her into a hug, and told her that they would always be there for her no matter what. They were so great. And Daniela felt lucky to have people like them as her friends.
The first realisation she came to, was that Friday, when she was going through one of her childhood photo albums on her couch; she never wanted to dance at that club again. The only job she’d still take there, was serving drinks behind the bar, if she was in need of money.
That realisation then led her to booking a last minute flight to Atlanta. More than ever now, she missed her family. She needed to see them. She needed to try to mend the bond that had once been broken. Especially with her mother. And so that night, she got herself a flight ticket for a week later. She would stay there for two weeks. She had called up a cousin, one of the few that hadn’t cut her out, and she could stay over there if things were to not go right with her mother.
That night at the club felt dull. Their final act was missing, replaced by some other girl no one really cared about. Megan felt disappointed. She had joined Manon and Lara again, saying she had promised Daniela she’d come watch her at least once, to avoid their teasing, which she still hadn't. The whole car ride there, they had teased her about her little crush on the dancer, which she had denied every time. But once they got to the club, and the show was about to end, it wasn’t Daniela that was dancing on the stage.
Megan felt frustrated, angry almost. She was excited to see the girl again, to finally watch her dance properly instead of looking at her phone, and she wasn’t here. It made her feel a little foolish. A little delusional maybe even. It was as if the universe was trying to tell her that she in fact, would never get that girl. Again.
The minute Manon and Lara had gone into the backrooms, Megan had left. She had texted her friends that she was going home, to which they had replied with a thumbs up.
‘’Stupid idiot.’’ she mumbled to herself once she was inside her car again. It felt like life was taking the piss at her. But a part of her was a little worried. Why wasn’t she there? Was she sick? Injured? Did she take a day off because of other plans? She had no idea. But she just hoped that whatever it was, she was okay.
The next day, Daniela received a text from Sophia in their group chat, saying that Megan had been at the club last night to see her. Daniela heaved a sigh as she read the words over and over again. Megan hated parties, clubs, strippers, yet there she had been, at the club, for her. She almost regretted not going. But she knew it had been the right choice. Even if it meant missing out on a night with Megan.
A couple more days passed. Daniela had left her apartment a little more the past days. To go on a walk, to have coffee at a café, or to go into the city to run some errands. It felt peaceful. Normal. Better. In a way it felt like a war that had finally ended. Things weren’t fixed yet, and she was still left with the ruins and rubble of the battle. But there was peace again. And slowly but surely, things were to be rebuild again.
The night before her flight, she tossed and turned in her bed, sleep eluding her. She had packed everything she needed for her trip, but she was nervous. A little scared even. She had tried to go to bed early, but sleep just didn’t seem to come to her. The more time passed, the more frustrated she grew. Until she eventually shot up and got out of bed. She needed some fresh air. And so she threw on some sweatpants and a hoodie, her dark curls tied into a messy bun on top of her head, glasses rested on the bridge of her nose, not bothered to put in her contacts at this hour.
She threw on her shoes, and a jacket, before leaving her apartment. She plugged in her headphones, playing something calm on her phone, before the nightly air hit her face. It felt nice, cooling. She took a deep breath, before she started walking, no destination in mind. She’d just take a little stroll and then go back home.
The empty streets were peaceful, but as a young woman also a little scary. And so she made her way to a part of the city where there were a few small café’s and businesses. Where there weren’t too many people, but also not too little. Where it was dim, but not dark.
It was a little past 11pm now, and dim lights illuminated the streets. Behind the windows of the still open café’s, a few people sat, either chatting, or just enjoying some alone time. Then dim lights turned into flashy, blue, red and purple LED lights as she passed the 24/7 gaming café. She had only been there a few times, when everything else was closed, but she craved a cup of hot chocolate. The café wasn’t her scene, but damn did they make the best hot chocolates in that part of the city for a fair price.
She wasn’t planning to go in now, she didn’t have time. She needed to be back home on time to sleep. Her flight was set for the morning. But she did stop for a second to look inside. The café was empty, except for the owner, who was stood behind the counter, cleaning it with a rag. She was about to move on, when she saw the owner talk and laugh, and she narrowed her eyes to see if someone else was in there. And that was when she saw her. Dark hair tied in a high bun, hoodie pulled up to her face, big black glasses, that amazing smile, those whisker dimples, as she sat back in one of the booths, comfortable, her face illuminated by the laptop that stood in front of her. Megan. Her heart jumped at the sight. What was she doing here? Or well, a gaming café made sense for Megan, but what was she doing here at this hour?
She knew she had to go home to sleep, but she couldn’t just keep walking. And so, before she could even think about it too much, her feet carried her into the café, heart beating rapidly in her chest with every step she set closer to the girl.
Megan was just working on a game she was programming, like she so often did at this hour at this café while enjoying a hot chocolate. She was completely focussed on her screen, all alone in the café, aside from Mr. Jeong, the owner, as she enjoyed the silence.
‘’Couldn’t sleep either?’’ a voice that wasn’t Mr. Jeong’s sounded.
When she looked up, she was met with the girl that had been invading her mind all week now. Daniela.
She was just wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, glasses on her face, her hair in a messy bun, no make-up on. She looked absolutely beautiful. Megan couldn’t help but to stare for a few seconds, admiring the girl before her, before she snapped herself back.
‘’Uh, hey. I’m just working on something. I focus best at hours in which the world goes quiet, like now. And this café has the best hot chocolates.’’ she replied, averting her gaze back onto her screen.
‘’They do.’’ Daniela commented. What even was she doing here at this hour? Megan wondered.
‘’You’re familiar with this café?’’ Megan asked, brow furrowed a little. This didn’t seem like a café someone like Daniela would ever go to.
‘’Somewhat. I come here sometimes when nothing else is open and I crave a hot chocolate. But the gaming theme is not really my scene though.’’ she answered.
‘’To each their own, I suppose.’’ Megan chuckled.
For a few seconds, Daniela just stood there in silence, unsure of what else to say, and Megan desperately searched for words as well.
‘’Can I uh, get you something?’’ Megan eventually asked.
‘’I should head home. I need to be up early tomorrow. But I’m very tempted.’’ Daniela replied, unable to decide. She wanted to talk to the girl, but she also knew she’d regret staying up too late the next morning.
‘’You know what, sure. I’ll have a hot chocolate.’’ she eventually said, giving in, as she sat down in the booth, opposite to Megan.
‘’Can we get two more hot chocolate’s, please?’’ Megan asked kindly, turning to the man behind the counter, who just nodded.
‘’So, you said you couldn’t sleep?’’ Megan asked, soft coffee brown eyes meeting deep honey brown ones.
‘’Yeah.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’How come?’’ she asked, genuinely.
‘’I’m nervous. I’m flying out to Atlanta tomorrow morning, to see my family, my mother. I’m a little scared.’’ the older girl answered, looking down as she fiddled with her fingers on the table.
‘’Why does it scare you? Are you not on good terms?’’ Megan asked, remembering when Daniela talked about losing friends and family over her job.
‘’I haven’t seen or spoken to her in years, since I started working at that club. I don’t even know if she wants to see me.’’ she said, feeling her eyes well up a little again, but refusing to let her tears fall.
‘’What are you visiting her for? I mean, you haven’t spoken to her in years. Why now?’’ the younger girl asked.
‘’Your words kind of stuck with me. I’m not happy with this life, Megan. And I want to change. I want better for myself. So I’m taking a break from dancing at the club, for two months. But I already know I won’t come back after. Maybe I’ll take up a job serving drinks at the club if I need money, until I find something else. But I won’t ever dance there again. I don’t want to anymore. I don’t know what I’ll do instead, or where I’ll go. I’m still figuring that out, but I know I won’t go back there. I miss my family. More than I’d like to admit after they disowned me. I want to see them again. To apologize for leaving the way I did. To make things right again.’’ she explained. Megan just listened, as Mr. Jeong put their drinks on the table in front of them.
‘’I’m happy to hear that my words were of any help. But it sounds tough. I’m glad that you are taking that step though. You deserve to be happy. And I wish you the best of luck with your family. I hope they’ll understand. Do you know what you’re going to say yet?’’ Megan said, voice soft, eyes never leaving the girl in front of her, heart both aching and warmed.
‘’No. I think I’ll just see how it goes. I can rehearse a speech, but I don’t know how she is going to react anyways. For all I know she won’t even open the door for me. So I’m just going to let whatever happens happen and speak from my heart in that moment.’’ she said.
‘’I think that is the best approach. I hope it works out for you. How long will you be staying there?’’ the younger asked, before taking a sip of her hot chocolate, the rich flavour tickling her tastebuds.
‘’Two weeks. I’ll be staying with the one cousin that still talks to me, unless things go well and my mom will let me stay at home.’’ Daniela replied, just letting the hot mug warm her hands.
‘’Well, I’m rooting for you.’’ Megan smiled softly at her. Daniela returned the smile, before it fell silent between the two.
‘’Is that why you weren’t at the club last Friday? Because of the break?’’ Megan asked after a few minutes of them just staring at the mugs in their hands.
‘’Yeah.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’I heard you were there though? I thought strip clubs weren’t your scene?’’ she then asked, a small and teasing smile on her face.
‘’They’re not, but I guess I wanted to see you.’’ Megan replied honestly, her cheeks heating up a little. Daniela felt her heart flutter at her words.
‘’Sophia said you wanted to see me dance, yeah. Too bad I wasn’t there. But maybe I’ll let you watch me dance in private some time.’’ the older girl dared to say. Megan felt her face flush, as her heart pounded in her chest and her hands got clammy around the mug.
‘’I won’t play games then, promise.’’ Megan joked back, trying to sound confident, but failing a little. Daniela just chuckled, finding it adorable.
That smile, that laugh, Megan adored it already, and she felt a fluttery feeling in the pit of her stomach at the sight.
‘’So, what are you up to at this hour?’’ Daniela then asked, changing the topic to the younger girl, before she finally took a sip of her drink.
‘’Oh, I’m just working on something.’’ Megan replied, shortly looking at her screen, as if it would magically display the right words to say.
‘’What are you working on?’’ the older girl asked curiously.
‘’A game.’’ Megan answered.
‘’You’re playing a game?’’ Daniela raised an eyebrow at her.
‘’No, I uh, I’m making a game. Programming one. Remember the computer science and programming degree?’’ Megan chuckled nervously.
‘’You’re making a game? That’s so cool! Can I see?’’ Daniela asked excitedly. And with every smile the girl flashed her, Megan felt herself fall deeper.
‘’Here. It’s far from finished but this is it so far. These are the characters.’’ Megan said, as she turned the screen to the girl, showing her what she had so far.
‘’I don’t know much about games, but that looks dope. It’s cool that you can do that. Do you do it for a living?’’ the Latina asked, amazed at her work.
‘’Uh no, I just work a 9 to 5 at an office as IT. But I won’t get into it, unless you need something to help you fall asleep. This is just a hobby.’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’Well, I kind of need something to help me sleep, actually. But maybe not in the middle of a café. Why don’t you call me when I am home and tell me when I am in my bed.’’ Daniela said jokingly, but also as a way to ask the girl for her number. Megan just stared at her for a bit, trying to decipher if the girl was joking, or if she meant it.
‘’I don’t have your number though.’’ Megan joked back, playing it safe with a reply she could play off as a joke.
‘’Give me your phone.’’ Daniela then said, and Megan's eyes lit up a little as she handed her the device and she watched her type her number into it, before she used it to call herself, saving Megan’s number as well.
‘’Here. Now we can talk to each other whenever we want.’’ Daniela smiled, as she handed the girl her phone back. Her heart was hammering in her chest. Never had anyone made her as nervous as Megan had.
Megan felt herself blush at the thought of being able to reach and talk to her whenever now.
‘’So, what else do you do in your day to day life?’’ Daniela then asked, as she leaned back in her seat. She wanted to know more about Megan. She wanted to know everything about her.
‘’I play videogames and hang out with my friends. And since the start of the new year I also have a gym subscription I already regret. But I’m stuck with it for a year, the salesmen got to me, so I make it worth my money and try to go a few times a week.’’ the younger girl chuckled.
‘’Well, it’s paying off. You did manage to carry two drunk girls out of a club and into your car.’’ Daniela joked.
‘’Right, I guess my hours of training were good for something.’’ Megan replied.
‘’What do you do in your free time?’’ Megan then asked. Daniela thought for a moment.
‘’Not much. I rehearse all day throughout the week, too tired to do anything once I get home. I use my weekends to recover from performing. I haven’t really done anything for myself in a long time. I’m trying to now though.’’ Daniela answered honestly.
‘’That’s good. And if you ever need anyone to keep you company, my door’s always open. You know how to reach me now.’’ Megan smiled at her.
‘’Thanks, Megs. I’ll keep that in mind.’’ the older girl smiled back. Megan’s heart jumped a little at the nickname. And then there they were again. The butterflies. Fluttering around in her stomach.
Silence fell. But not an uncomfortable one. Just them enjoying their drinks in each other’s presence. Daniela staring at Megan, taking in every little detail of her. While Megan melted under her gaze, looking at her screen whenever it was too much for her. Both of them felt it. The connection. There was something between them. Neither could quite pinpoint it yet, but it was there. And both savoured every bit of it.
When Daniela finished her drink, she sat up a little.
‘’I should go. My flight leaves early. Thanks, for this though. Our chat, just being with you, it put my mind at ease a little.’’ Daniela said, breaking the silence. Megan smiled softly at her.
‘’Glad I could be of any help.’’ she replied.
‘’Yeah, you seem to be of help to me a lot lately.’’ Daniela chuckled.
‘’Anytime.’’ Megan replied.
‘’You’re so annoying.’’ Daniela said teasingly as she lightly shook her head. Megan just chuckled.
‘’How so?’’ she asked.
‘’You’re too sweet. And it pisses me off how casually good looking you are. What’s your secret?’’ Daniela said, in a spur of confidence. Megan felt her cheeks heat up at the girl’s comment. But she decided to match the girl’s energy.
‘’I don’t have a secret. You just need a good surgeon.’’ she joked back. Daniela laughed, and God was it the best thing Megan had ever heard.
‘’Most of the time people know my secrets before I even know them myself, honestly.’’ Megan then said.
‘’I’m afraid that’s true.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’But even if I had a secret, you wouldn’t need it. You’re beautiful, Daniela.’’ Megan said, scraping together every ounce of confidence she had to get the words out of her mouth.
‘’Stop, with the way I look now? No.’’ the older girl chuckled, feeling her face flush and heart pounding in her chest.
‘’Especially with the way you look now.’’ Megan continued, her tone soft and genuine.
‘’What’s so much more special about how I look now than the other times we met?’’ Daniela asked, her confidence crumbling underneath the girl’s gaze.
‘’You’re just, you, now.’’ Megan said, eyes never leaving the girl. Daniela felt like her heart was about to combust at her words.
‘’Thanks, Megan.’’ she said, finally able to meet the girl’s eyes again. They were filled with an admiration Daniela had never seen anyone look at her with. Like she saw her, really saw her.
‘’I uh, I should head home. Again, thanks for all of this. How much do I owe you for the drink?’’ Daniela then said after a few seconds of them just staring into each other’s eyes.
‘’Nothing, it’s on me.’’ Megan smiled.
‘’Let me at least pay you with a hug then?’’ Daniela said, more because she just really wanted to hug the girl right now. To feel her close.
‘’I will accept that.’’ Megan smiled, before she got up and opened her arms for the girl.
Daniela stepped forward, her arms snaking around the girl’s shoulders, while hers wrapped around her waist. The girl’s body, her warmth, it felt good against her. It felt right. She shortly buried her face into the crook of the younger girl’s neck, before she softly spoke to her, voice barely above a whisper.
‘’Thanks, Megan. For everything. You’re sweet.’’ she spoke near her ear, her warm breath hitting her skin, making the younger girl shudder a little.
‘’Good night, Megan.’’ she said finally, planting a soft kiss on the girl’s cheek, before she pulled away from the hug. Megan’s breath hitched at the feeling of the girl’s lips against her skin. She was so flustered that she couldn’t even manage to utter a word to the girl, not even a good night. And so she just stood there, as she watched Daniela walk out of the café, until she eventually disappeared from her view.
Megan stood lovestruck in the café. Daniela Avanzini had just called her sweet, and kissed her on the cheek. Holy shit.
‘’That you girlfriend?’’ Mr. Jeong’s voice pulled her out of her daze again.
‘’Uh, no. She’s just someone I know.’’ Megan replied, sitting back down.
‘’But, you like her, no?’’ he asked, his Korean accent still heavy even after all the years he’d been here. By now him and Megan knew each other fairly well, with the sheer amount of time she had spent there, mostly at night, when there was no one else. She knew his granddaughter too. They weren’t exactly friends, the girl being only 17, but they got along. Megan sometimes tutored her in English and math.
''We’re just friends, I think.’’ she replied, not willing to admit what she knew to be true yet. Mr. Jeong just chuckled.
‘’You say no, but your eyes say yes. Mr. Jeong old, but not blind.’’ he said.
‘’Fine, maybe I like her a little. She’s pretty and so nice, how could I not?’’ Megan gave in a little.
‘’She very nice girl. So, are you going to make a move?’’ he then asked as he sat down across from her, where Daniela was sat previously.
‘’No, I don’t think so.’’ Megan sighed, looking down.
‘’Why?’’ Mr. Jeong asked.
‘’She doesn’t like me like that.’’ Megan replied.
‘’But Mr. Jeong saw, the way she look at you. She like you.’’ he pressed. Megan let out a frustrated sigh.
‘’Girls like her don’t want girls like me, okay. Not like that. We’re just their cute caring little friends they can vent to whenever until they find some hot partner to love and talk to instead. It’s always like that.’’ Megan said, as she typed on her laptop, expression serious.
‘’How do you know? How do you know what she like? Who are you to decide that? It is not up to you to decide if you are good enough for her or not. That is up to her. So don’t make that decision for her by running away. That, no fair.’’ Mr. Jeong said, tone serious. Megan knew that he was right. But she was so scared to let her feel something like that for a girl like Daniela. She was so scared to get her heart broken. So scared to feel like a fool again.
‘’You are great girl. Give yourself a chance, Megan. Don’t be pabo.’’ he said, a bit softer now. Megan felt her eyes sting at his words, but she didn’t let her tears fall.
‘’Thanks, Mr. Jeong. I’ll try.’’ she said, finally meeting his eyes again.
‘’Good. Now, these drinks, on me. Mr. Jeong love love.’’ he chuckled.
‘’Thanks.’’ Megan said.
‘’Also, Yoonchae need English lesson. She have exam soon. You free this weekend?’’ he then asked, as he got up and picked up the now empty mugs.
‘’Yeah, how’s Sunday 2pm?’’ Megan proposed.
‘’Good, good. See you here?’’ he asked. Megan just nodded.
She watched as he cleaned up the mugs, before she packed up her laptop and got up.
‘’I’m heading home. Thanks for tonight, Mr. Jeong.’’ she smiled at him.
‘’No problem. Mr. Jeong always here for Megan. Megan like, American granddaughter.’’ he chuckled, and Megan smiled at his words. He really did feel like family in a strange way.
‘’Oh and Megan?’’ he called, as she made her way to the door. She turned around shortly.
‘’Call girl, okay.’’ he said. Megan just smiled at him, nodding yes, before she left the café.
For a moment she just breathed in the night air, trying to steady her rapidly beating heart. Before she made her way home.
In her head, she was trying to come up with something to text the girl. What would she even say? Just a hello? That sounded stupid in her head. Fuck she was so bad at this.
She was halfway through her walk back home, when the ringing of her phone interrupted her messy thought process.
When she took the device out of her pocket, the name of the girl she had been thinking about popped up on the screen, calling her. Megan stopped walking, heart stilling, body freezing. Fuck.
‘Pick up, you fool.’ she thought to herself as she stared at the name, her phone ringing.
At the last ring, her thumb pressed the pick-up button, heart pounding out of her chest once again.
‘’Hello?’’ Megan said, mentally cursing herself for how it sounded.
‘’Megan?’’ the familiar voice sounded on the other end of the line.
‘’Yeah?’’ she replied, nerves increasing again.
‘’I’m in my bed. Still can’t sleep. Tell me about your job.’’ the girl said. She sounded tired, soft. Megan could just about imagine what the girl looked like in that moment, tucked underneath her bedsheets, phone next to her on her pillow or nightstand. It was adorable. Megan took a deep breath, to collect herself, while she started walking again.
‘’Well, most of my days are filled with people who forgot their passwords. Office workers who make a big fuzz over minor computer problems. Making it sound like the computer crashed but then with a few clicks of the mouse, it’s fixed again. Most of them just don’t know how to work the programs.’’ Megan talked, Daniela listened.
‘’Sounds tiring.’’ the girl said softly.
‘’Every time I get a call, I hope it’s something interesting. But it never is.’’ Megan chuckled softly.
‘’Where are you?’’ Daniela then asked, taking Megan by surprise a little. But she had probably heard some of the traffic in the background.
‘’I’m on my way home.’’ Megan replied.
‘’Be safe, please.’’ the girl said, a comment that warmed Megan’s heart, and she couldn’t help but smile.
‘’I will be.’’ she said.
‘’Continue, please.’’ Daniela just said.
‘’Well, on good days, a printer breaks down. Most of the time it’s just the ink running out and needing replacement. But once in a while, I get a good, solid paper jam.’’ Megan said, and she could hear Daniela chuckle at the other end of the line.
‘’You’re just making me laugh now, not helping me sleep. Be more boring.’’ Daniela joked. Megan chuckled at her comment. Most of the time girls wanted her to be more interesting, more exciting. Daniela was the first girl to ever ask her to be more boring.
‘’When I am not helping office damsels in distress, I work on programs. Improving the programs we work with, rewriting protocols.’’ Megan said. She yapped on about every little detail of her work, even though Daniela understood nothing of it.
Daniela would occasionally hum, to let her know that she was still listening. But she could feel her eyelids getting heavier by the second. Megan’s voice was soft, soothing. It calmed her raging heart. And soon she felt herself drifting off to sleep.
Megan kept talking. After a while, she noticed that the occasional hums had stopped, and that it was completely silent on the other end of the line.
‘’Daniela? Are you still listening?’’ she asked, but she got no response, and she smiled softly.
‘’Good night, Dani. And good luck on your journey. I’m rooting for you.’’ she said softly, even though the girl probably didn’t hear it anyways. It was the thought that counted. And then she hung up, right before she reached her apartment.
That night, Megan fell asleep with a fluttering in her stomach. One she hadn’t felt in a long time. But it felt good. It felt right.
The next day, Daniela got up early for her flight. She felt tired, but at peace. Throughout the day however, as she went through the airport, boarded the plane, and got closer and closer to her home, her nerves increased.
Her cousin had come to pick her up from the airport, and together they had brought her luggage to her house as they caught up. And then it was the moment of truth.
Daniela had taken a taxi to her old house, where her mother lived, and she was now stood in front of the house, but her mother wasn’t home. Her car wasn’t in front of the house, and when she had rang the doorbell, no one had opened.
And so she waited. Ten minutes. Twenty. Half an hour. And then a familiar car pulled up in the street. Scared, she hid behind a car parked along the road. She watched as her mother unloaded some groceries, going up to carry the bags to the front door. She hesitated for a moment, before she stepped forward.
‘’Mamá?’’ she called. Her mother stopped in her tracks, turning her head. Their eyes met. Neither of them said anything for a second. Her mother didn’t move, only turned to face her a little more. Hurt swirled in both of their eyes instantly. The tension of a broken bond hung between them. And then Daniela broke the silence.
‘’Mamá, lo siento.’’ she said, her voice breaking.
‘’Lo siento mucho.’’ the first of her tears fell. Her mother didn’t reply. Just closed her eyes as a tear silently rolled down her cheek.
‘’Cometí un error. Debí haberte escuchado.’’ Daniela started.
("I made a mistake. I should have listened to you.")
Her mother just stared at her, and so Daniela continued.
‘’Dejé mi trabajo en el club.’’
("I quit my job at the club.")
‘’Quiero cambiar. Quiero algo diferente. Quiero algo mejor.’’
("I want to change. I want different. I want better.")
‘’Y quiero volver a casa.’’ at those words, Daniela broke, tears now streaming down her face.
("And I want to come home.")
Her mother had a hard time keeping it together now as well.
‘’Por favor, mamá. Déjame volver a casa.’’ she pleaded.
("Please, mom. Let me come home.")
‘’Te extraño. Te necesito, mamá. Por favor. Déjame entrar.’’ she could see her mother’s chest heave as her fists clenched around the handles of the grocery bags.
("I miss you. I need you, mom. Please. Let me in.")
It stayed silent for a few seconds, seconds that felt like forever. Before her mother walked over to her.
Without saying anything, she held out one of the grocery bags for her. Daniela looked at it, unsure. And then her mother spoke up.
‘’Toma.’’ she said, her voice strained, but trying to sound steady.
("Here.")
Daniela took the bag from her.
‘’Ve a poner la compra en la encimera. Y pon a calentar agua para el arroz.’’ she said. And Daniela smiled through her tears.
("Go put the groceries on the counter. And start up a pan of water for the rice.")
Her words carried a silent acceptance. A silent forgiveness. They were surely going to talk about it later. They had to.
But for now, Daniela was home again, finally.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Megan. The name kept ringing in her head. No matter how much she tried to shut it out. She kept seeing her face. Kept hearing her voice. Their interaction kept replaying in her head. She cursed herself. For not trying a little harder to get the girl to stay in some way. Even if it was just for the two to chat and get to know each other. She wanted to get to know her. She wanted to know everything about Megan.
Daniela almost cringed at how much she felt herself wanting to see the perfect stranger again. She cursed herself for how easily she was falling. She didn’t even know anything about her, aside from her name, and that she hated parties. For all she knew she was a total dick. And yet here she was, longing for her. To just see her again.
All week, the girl’s presence lingered in her mind, and it drove her crazy. Then Friday rolled around again. The day Manon and Lara were always there to watch Sophie and Sophia. The day Megan had come with them a week earlier. She knew it was a long shot. Maybe delusional even. But a part of her silently prayed that Megan would come with them again. That maybe, Daniela had left an impression on her as well, and that she had changed her mind, now coming back for more.
For the first time since she started working here, she felt nervous again. Nervous at the idea that maybe Megan was going to be there. And nervous at the idea that she probably wouldn’t. Once her hair, make-up and outfit were all done, she found herself peeking through the stage blinds every 10 minutes to see if she could spot the girl, or her friends. This didn’t go unnoticed by her friends.
‘’You’re more fidgety than usual. What’s the matter?’’ Sophie asked. Neither of them knew about Megan. She hadn’t told a soul that she had invited the girl to her backroom, and that the girl had rejected her.
‘’Nothing, just checking out the crowd.’’ Daniela shrugged.
‘’What on earth for? You never invite anyone anyways. You don’t even look at them when you perform.’’ Sophia chuckled.
‘’It’s been a while since I got some. Maybe I want to treat myself tonight.’’ she lied.
‘’Didn’t know you were into miserable middle aged white men.’’ Sophie teased.
‘’Shut up.’’ Daniela chuckled, before she went back to the dressing room they all shared together, checking her hair and make-up one last time.
‘’You look great, babes.’’ Sophia said from beside her, working on her eyeliner.
‘’Thanks. So do you.’’ Daniela smiled back at her.
And then and idea popped up in her head.
‘’Hey, that girl that was with Manon and Lara last week, I’ve never seen her here before?’’ Daniela decided to ask. Maybe Sophia knew more about her, since she was with Lara and well, Lara seemed to be one of Megan’s best friends.
‘’Megan? She’s their friend. They took her here for her birthday. Lara had a whole rant about it.’’ Sophia chuckled, remembering how her not quite yet but pretty much girlfriend had yapped on about the girl.
‘’What did she say about her?’’ Daniela asked, trying not to seem too interested.
‘’Uh, something about the girl being a total virgin and never having been with anyone romantically and them coming up with plan after plan to change that because she’s like in her mid-twenties now but the girl not exactly working with them and being a little too fine being single or something. I don’t really know though.’’ Sophia said, trying to remember the girl’s rambles.
She was a virgin? How was someone as attractive and seemingly sweet as Megan still a virgin? Now she understood her discomfort and nerves. And her rejection. It made sense. She still wondered how though. Had she just never really put herself out there? Or had no one ever really noticed her? Or was it maybe a combination of both?
‘’Why are you asking?’’ Sophia then said, her voice pulling her out of her thoughts.
‘’No reason. I just noticed because for the first time in, well, ever, that corner table was occupied.’’ Daniela answered.
‘’Yeah, their friend isn’t really the party type.’’ Sophia replied, to which Daniela just nodded.
Something about the idea of Megan never having been with anyone before, never having loved or been loved by anyone before, saddened her. The girl deserved it. She barely knew her, but Daniela thought she deserved it all. Someone to love. Someone to love her.
Her mind wandered off. Images of her and the girl cuddling, or going on cute dates, flashed through her mind. She cursed herself for it. The girl was basically a stranger, yet here she was, picturing a life with her. She hated how much she wanted the girl. She wasn’t usually this quick, or this intense, when it came to her desire. Daniela was picky when it came to romantic or sexual partners, and she didn’t give herself to anyone quickly. She always made them work for it. She always made them chase her. But now here she was, desperately trying to chase the mysterious girl.
The show started. The first dancers went up the stage. Daniela was always last to dance. She was their closing act. They always saved best for last. And that was her.
Girl after girl went on the stage, until it was her turn. The lights dimmed, her cue to get on there. She walked with long strides, heels clicking against the stage. She took her opening position. Then the lights came on and the music started, the crowd roaring. She looked at them shortly. Within the sea of men, she spotted Manon and Lara cheering loudly for her. They were the only two that she was happy to see whenever she got on stage. Then she averted her gaze to the back. To that little corner table. The faint smile that was on her face fading. It was empty.
She knew it would be. Deep down. But the confirmation of it stung. She almost didn’t even feel like performing anymore, if not for the girl. But the show had to go on. And so she did her routine, like she had rehearsed. But her eyes lacked the usual joy and sensuality they carried during performances. Her moves were sharp, calculated, controlled, but they lacked the usual power and energy. When the music faded, and the lights dimmed again, she left the stage as she caught her breath.
She immediately made her way to the dressing room, quickly taking off all of her jewellery and make-up, her movements tired and frustrated.
‘’Are you okay?’’ Sophia’s sweet voice rang in her ears.
‘’I’m fine, Soph.’’ Daniela sighed.
‘’You seemed a bit, out of it.’’ Sophia commented. Daniela closed her eyes as she let out a deep breath.
‘’I’m just tired. I slept badly last night.’’ she lied. She felt like crying. She felt like a mess. Emotions she didn’t quite dare to name swirled within her mind and heart. Right now, she just wanted to get the hell out of here and curl up in her bed.
‘’Okay, well, you know I’m here for you if you need anyone.’’ the older girl said as she gently put a hand on her shoulder.
‘’I know. Thanks, Soph.’’ Daniela flashed her a small smile.
She then continued to change, before she grabbed all of her stuff and left through the backdoor of the club.
She hurried to the uber she had ordered earlier, and that was already waiting for her in the parking lot. She didn’t have money for a car, and public transport was shitty in this part of the city. She always took ubers, to a point where she knew some of the drivers pretty well now.
‘’Good evening, miss Avanzini. Your apartment I suppose?’’ the driver, whose name was Sean, asked, as he flashed her a smile through the rear-view mirror.
‘’You know it.’’ she smiled back at him.
The car ride was silent. Sean wasn’t much of a talker, unless she yapped at him. But tonight, she wasn’t in the mood.
When they arrived at her apartment, she bid him goodbye, before leaving him a proper tip, like she always did.
She then made her way into the dark hallway of her crappy apartment building. The lights were still broken, and so she had to use her phone’s flashlight to find her way to the stairs.
With all the energy she had left, she climbed the stairs up to the fifth floor, the elevator one of the many broken things in this building. But she couldn’t afford anything better. Maybe if she had gone to college, like her mother had told her, instead of chasing her dream to be a dancer, she would have had a nicer place to live in. But she hadn’t listened to her mom. And after graduation, she had moved to Los Angeles to join some program for aspiring young dancers, where she had gotten eliminated after a couple of months because her progress was stagnant and she was too dead in the face. And after that the only dance job that would hire her was the strip club. God you should have seen her mother’s reaction when she found out. She hadn’t even yelled. She had just stayed quiet, before mumbling a prayer in Spanish, followed by the announcement that Daniela shouldn’t bother coming home to Atlanta for Christmas, or ever. That was the last time she had spoken to her mother. Her father had taken her mom’s side. As the rest of the family. Sophie and Sophia were the only ones she had, really.
As soon as the door to her apartment closed behind her, a tear fell from her eye.
Had she made a mistake? Should she have listened to her mother after all? Would she have had a better life now then? If she had just gone to college, graduated, and gotten a normal job? Would she have been loved by someone who didn’t just want her for her body? Would she have been happier with a normal life? Questions that would invade her mind once in a while. The answers never failing to break her heart. But she always told herself it was too late now. She had made her choices. And now she had to go on with it.
And then the girl invaded her mind again. Megan. Megan who was quite the opposite from her. Megan who hated parties, while Daniela was the party itself. Megan, who was so incredibly normal, maybe a little boring even, while Daniela did all God had forbidden. Megan, who seemed happy, and satisfied, while Daniela found herself yearning for more, for better, for different, every single day. Megan, who was so perfectly honest to and about herself, while Daniela lied to herself that she was happy with her life, with who she was.
Maybe that was another thing. Maybe it wasn’t just the attraction she felt towards Megan that had her mind reeling and head messy. Megan was beautiful, kind, gentle, and a reminder of what Daniela could have been, what she should have been. A reminder of the mistakes she had made and the regrets she carried. A reminder of the peace she could have had, had she chosen differently. And her rejection? A painful reminder that people like her, normal people, they didn’t want someone like her.
And that’s when she broke down, like she did once in a while upon the realisation. Once in a while, her fierce and tough exterior would crack, once that door to her apartment would close, and she’d be stuck with herself again.
With blurry eyes, she made her way over to her bedroom, where she curled up in her bed, and silently let her tears fall, until she fell asleep with a messy head and a heavy heart, wishing for a miracle to happen.
‘’Querido Dios. Por favor, sálvame, de mi mismo.’’ she whispered into her pillow, tears streaming down her face.
("Dear God. Please, save me, from myself.")
‘’Quiero volver a ser como antes, a tiempos mejores. Te lo ruego, por favor, sálvame.’’ she prayed silently, hoping for someone to hear.
("I want to go back to the way things were before, to better times. I beg you, please, save me.")
But her prayers were never answered. And another week passed. Another Friday rolled around. But nothing had changed. No one had come to save her. And she was sat there again, in that dressing room, getting ready for another night of doing what she gaslit herself into believing she loved. Her expression was empty, not unusual for the first performance after a break down like that. Sophie and Sophia noticed the soulless expression in her eyes, and knew exactly what it meant. And so they knew not to ask, not to press it. They would just be there for her, silently.
Daniela worked through her routine like a machine. The either tipsy or drunk crowd never noticed the difference anyways. They were looking, but they never really saw her. Her eyes were on that table again, empty. She wasn’t surprised. Maybe not even disappointed. She had accepted it. That she wouldn’t see the girl again. And even if she would, it wasn’t like the girl wanted to have anything to do with her anyways. So, she had just, given up.
When the lights dimmed, she left the stage, planning to go home.
‘’Hey, Dani?’’ Sophia called out as soon as she entered the dressing room.
‘’Hm?’’ she looked up at the older girl.
‘’Uh, Manon, Lara, Sophie and I are going to party at the club for a little, do you want to join?’’ she asked her friend. Daniela thought for a moment. She wasn’t in the mood for a party, but she was in the mood to forget. And so she agreed.
She followed Sophia into the club, trying to muster up a smile and some excitement as she greeted an already tipsy Manon and Lara. Sophie was a few drinks in already as well, and Sophia wasn’t entirely sober anymore either, the sweet scent of a cocktail wafting from her lips as she spoke.
‘’Do you want a drink?’’ Manon then asked.
‘’Uh, I’ll just have a glass of wine, white, please.’’ Daniela yelled over the loud music. Manon just nodded, before she went to get them all another round of drinks.
They chatted and danced. Daniela took her sweet time with her wine, while the others downed one drink after the other. When they ought it time for shots, Lara ordered everyone a shot of tequila.
Daniela watched as Sophie licked the salt off of Manon’s arm, before taking the shot, finishing by biting a lemon Manon was holding between her teeth, simultaneously kissing the woman. Then she watched how Sophie laid down on that empty corner table, and Manon licked the salt off of her abdomen, before pouring her shot into the hollow of her collarbone, and sucking it up, before biting the lemon. Lara and Sophia cheered at the sight. Daniela just chuckled. They were so far gone. She then watched how Sophia poured salt on her arm for Lara to lick up, which she did, before her hand gripped the younger’s hair and she brought the shot glass up to Lara’s lips, tilting her head back slightly as she fed her the shot, followed by the lemon. Sophia then licked salt off of Lara’s shoulder, licking up to her neck, before leaving a sloppy kiss there. Then she too took the shot, and the lemon. Daniela felt like a fifth wheel, but she also felt herself being quite entertained by her friends’ shenanigans. She loved these dorks. And she’d drink on that, licking up some salt from her own hand, before downing the bitter liquid, flushing away the awful taste and burn with a piece of lemon.
They danced, laughed and chatted some more, before Lara almost stumbled over, throwing the other three into a fit of giggles. They were all drunk now. Daniela was still pretty much sober, just a little more relaxed with her wine and shot gone now.
‘’We are so far gone.’’ Sophie let out in between giggles.
‘’How the fuck are we going to get home like this? We are so cooked.’’ Sophia laughed.
‘’Dani can drive!’’ Sophie yelled. Daniela chuckled and shook her head.
‘’With what car? You all came in an uber and so did I.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’Shit, yeah.’’ Sophia replied.
‘’Megan!’’ Lara then yelled. Daniela’s ears perked at the mention of the girl.
‘’We have a friend. Her name is Megan. She never goes out. She’s at home right now. She has a car. And she is so sweet. She will get out of bed just to pick us up. Trust.’’ Lara slurred as she took out her phone. The younger girl now had Daniela’s full attention, and she waited in anticipation.
‘’Megan!’’ Lara yelled into the phone after about half a minute.
‘’We are soooo drunk. Can you please come pick us up?’’ she said. Daniela prayed for the girl to say yes, just so she could see her again, even if it was only for a few seconds.
‘’It’s me, Sophia, Manon and Sophie. And Dani too, but she’s not very drunk. She’s normal.’’ Lara said, and Daniela couldn’t help but to smile softly, but painfully. Normal. Just for a night, she was normal to someone.
‘’She’ll be here in twenty minutes!’’ Lara cheered as she did a little victory dance, and the other three all clapped for her.
The four drunk girls just danced as they waited for the girl to arrive. Dani decided to take it a little easier, watching her friends from the little corner table Megan had sat at two weeks ago.
Daniela felt herself getting a little nervous. She was going to see the girl again. Talk to her again. What even was she going to say? She was so confident when they had first met, like she always was, convinced that she was wanted by the other. But then Megan rejected her. Which at first just peaked her interest and slightly pissed her off. But over the past two weeks she had done so much overthinking to a point where she now felt nervous to face the girl. Part of her was also excited. Happy to be seeing her again. There was just something about Megan, and her energy, that was so gentle, that felt so safe. She was looking forward to feeling that energy again. She needed it.
And so, after about fifteen minutes, Daniela went outside, waiting for the girl to arrive near the entrance of the club.
She paced back and forth, while trying to supress the need to bite her nails, something she did whenever she felt nervous. She didn’t even know what kind of car the girl drove, and what to look out for, but she wanted to be the first to greet the girl here.
Every car that passed by, or pulled up, had Dani looking up, staring, expectantly. But every time, they either kept driving, or someone else got out of it.
Eventually a BMW pulled up, parking near the entrance. It looked expensive, and so Daniela expected it to be another old white man with too much money for his own good, continuing to pace around while looking at the ground.
Until a voice spoke up.
‘’Daniela?’’ a soft voice called her name, and when she looked up, she was met with the girl that she was waiting for. She looked stunning. Even though she looked tired, exhaustion and a broken night hidden behind those big black glasses. Even though she was just wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, and her hair was tied up in a messy bun. It was clear that she had just rolled out of bed. And still she looked beautiful. Her features were soft under the moonlight, and Daniela couldn’t help but to stare at the way she softly smiled at her.
‘’Are the others inside?’’ Megan asked, snapping Daniela back to reality.
‘’Uh, yeah.’’ she said, tearing her eyes away from the slightly taller girl to look at the ground.
‘’Lead the way.’’ the younger girl then said, at which Daniela led her inside. She wanted to say more. So much more. But she had no idea what to even say. She knew very little about the girl. And the girl knew very little about her. So what were they to even talk about?
When they were inside the club, Daniela led Megan to the drunk and dancing girls.
‘’Guys! Megan’s here!’’ Daniela yelled at them, catching their attention.
‘’Megan!’’ Lara yelled, before she threw herself onto the girl, arms slung around her shoulders as she leaned on her with her full weight.
‘’You’re here.’’ the girl then commented, smiling up at Megan.
‘’Sure am.’’ Megan chuckled as she let the girl lean on her.
‘’Let’s go party people!’’ Manon yelled as she motioned for the exit, but she couldn’t even walk straight anymore. Sophie was slung over the corner table now, head resting on the wooden surface as she sat in one of the chairs. Sophia was laying face flat on the little bench on the wall-side of the table, trying her best not to throw up her guts.
‘’Shit. I’m going to need some help.’’ Megan mumbled to herself as she observed the two stumbling girls and the two pretty much passed out girls.
‘’Daniela?!’’ she called, and Daniela responded immediately, her eyes never having left the girl.
‘’Can you take Lara and Manon? I’ll take Sophie and Sophia.’’ she said. Daniela just nodded, as she took Lara off of her body and let her lean on her instead.
‘’Manon, come on!’’ she said, as she grabbed Manon by her arm.
With Lara tightly holding onto her left arm, weight leaning on her, and Manon clutching onto her right arm, Daniela started making her way to the exit of the club with the two stumbling girls.
She let them go once they were outside, sitting both of them down on the ground, against the wall, as she looked back to see if Megan was coming too, but the girl was nowhere in sight. She was probably struggling with the two passed out girls, and Daniela wanted to go back inside to see if she was okay, but she couldn’t leave Lara and Manon unattended.
And so she just waited. One minute. Two minutes. Then three.
And then there she was. Daniela watched as Megan walked through the entrance of the club, Sophie half asleep but awake enough to hold on, on her back, Sophia bridal style in her arms. It almost looked heroic. Like some superhero carrying two girls out of a burning building. It was also wildly attractive. Megan was strong. She could see that now.
‘’My car’s over there. The BMW.’’ Megan huffed as she continued to carry the two girls to her car. Daniela helped Lara and Manon up again, before she helped them to Megan’s car as well.
Megan fumbled for her keys, before she unlocked her car. She first set Sophia down in the backseat, before she set Sophie down next to her.
Daniela then helped Lara into the backseat as well, before she turned to walk Manon to the passenger’s seat.
‘’Wait, put her in the backseat also.’’ Megan stopped her.
‘’Why?’’ Daniela asked. There were only three seats in the back. Sitting there with four wasn’t even legal.
‘’Because I’ll need your help carrying them into Manon’s apartment. I can’t manage four drunk girls on my own.’’ she answered. Daniela felt her heart speed up a little at the thought of going with them, with Megan, sitting next to her in her car.
‘’You want me to come as well?’’ she asked, just to be sure that she understood right.
‘’Yeah, please. If you don’t mind of course.’’ Megan said, now looking at her, once all four girls were huddled together in the backseat. Daniela swallowed with the way she felt Megan’s gaze on her.
‘’No, not at all.’’ she replied. Megan smiled at her, dimples showing slightly, Daniela couldn’t look away.
‘’Thanks. Shall we go then? Before one of them throws up in my car.’’ the younger girl chuckled, as she motioned for Daniela to get in. Daniela just nodded, taking her seat in the passenger’s seat.
Megan’s car was luxurious, leather seats that probably warmed up with the press of a button, a screen on the dashboard the size of an Ipad. Daniela wondered what the girl did in her daily life to be able to afford a car like this. She must have had a good job. Or had she been born into a wealthy family? Daniela was curious about her. About the life she lived. But she was afraid to ask. What if she asked the wrong questions? Was there even a wrong question? She wasn’t one to overthink like this, at all. But Megan had her questioning everything.
Megan drove carefully, afraid the girls in the back would get sick if she drove at her usual pace. She would occasionally look in the rear-view mirror, or she’d turn her head during red lights, to make sure the girls were still okay. Every time she did so, she would catch Daniela looking at her, then quickly averting her gaze towards the window every time Megan turned her way to look at the girls in the back. She felt a little uneasy underneath the older girl’s gaze, but she wasn’t sure if it was really in a bad way. She knew the girl found her attractive. She had said so during that night she had invited her to her room. And the fact that she, who never invited anyone, had invited her, and had wanted to sleep with her, already said enough. She never thought the attraction would last though. She had seen it before, hot girls thinking she was attractive because of her nerdiness, but then just as quickly losing that interest after having had a conversation with Megan and realising how awkward she really was. They just liked the idea of her. The idea of some hot loser. But never her as a person. Never just Megan.
But here they were, two weeks after their encounter, and Daniela was staring at her. Megan also hadn’t failed to notice the lack of confidence she had carried two weeks ago. This time, the girl seemed nervous, a little shy even. But she didn’t want to get her hopes up. Daniela was hot, fierce, confident, outgoing. She was like the polar opposite of Megan. There was no way she would like her. Maybe the girl thought she was attractive now, but once she’d get to know her, she’d realise how boring she was and walk away again. They always did.
The drive to Manon’s apartment was quiet. Neither of them really knew what to say. Both nervous within each other’s presence. The entire ride, Daniela was desperately searching for something to say, while Megan had just turned her music up a little to fill the quiet.
Eventually Daniela spoke up.
‘’Are we taking them all to the same place or will we drop them off at their own homes?’’ Daniela asked. A practical question about their current situation, that felt like a safe move.
‘’I think it’s best to just drop them all off at the same place. Saves us some time and effort. Besides, Manon has a guest room, so the other two can just stay there.’’ Megan replied, locking eyes with her shortly, before she looked at the road again. She looked good while driving, Daniela thought to herself.
When they got to Manon’s apartment complex, Megan told Daniela to help Lara and Manon out of the car, while she’d get Sophie and Sophia.
By now, Lara and Manon had gotten back to their senses a little again, able to walk on their own. Sophie clung to Daniela’s arm, as she stumbled next to her. Sophia was fast asleep, and so Megan just picked her up bridal style again. Daniela subconsciously bit her lower lip at the sight. And that’s when Daniela realised what it was about the girl that was so different from others. She had seen plenty of attractive people in her life. But Megan was so effortlessly attractive. Like she wasn’t even aware of it herself. And honestly, Daniela questioned if she was. Did the girl know how hot she was? The other people Daniela had met in her life knew they were, and they hadn't always been as humble about it. Which was fine, she did the same with herself. But Megan seemed oblivious to her own charm. It was kind of cute in a way, like a baby deer who didn’t quite yet know those four legs underneath her belonged to her.
Together, they helped the four girls into the elevator, before going up to the right floor. Manon opened the door to her apartment for them, immediately aiming for the refrigerator to grab some water for everyone. Daniela sat Sophie down on the couch, who could barely keep her eyes open now. Sophia was fast asleep, and Megan carried her into the guest room, laying her down on the bed there. Lara would take care of her once they were gone.
‘’Will you all be okay?’’ Megan asked, as she emerged from the guest room. Manon and Lara nodded, giving her a thumbs up as they gulped down the ice cold water.
‘’Alright, I will go and find my own bed again then.’’ Megan said, bidding her friends goodbye. Daniela bid them goodbye as well, shooting them all a small smile, before she followed Megan out of the apartment.
Once the door closed, they were alone. Daniela felt her heart thumping in her chest.
‘’So, mission accomplished.’’ Megan chuckled awkwardly as they walked back to the elevator.
‘’They are so going to feel this in the morning.’’ Daniela joked with a small chuckle, more out of nervousness than joy.
‘’And trust that I will be the victim of that. They will rant about it.’’ Megan joked back as they stepped into the elevator.
‘’You’re sweet though, for picking them up at this hour.’’ Daniela commented as the elevator went down.
‘’Thanks, just, doing my job as a good friend. What else was I supposed to do? Hang up?’’ Megan chuckled.
‘’I always have my phone on silent at night, so good luck reaching me. But even then, you could have said no. They are grown women. They would have figured it out. It’s understandable for you to not want to get out of bed at four in the morning.’’ Daniela said.
‘’Yeah, well, I don’t mind, really. I like being there for my friends.’’ Megan said as they both stepped out of the elevator, soon met with the cool February air again as they exited the building.
‘’Besides, they saved me plenty of times before. Let it be my turn now to be there when they need me.’’ Megan spoke, as she breathed out, enjoying the fresh air for a moment.
‘’That’s very admirable. They are lucky to have a friend like you.’’ Daniela smiled, looking at her from the passenger’s side of the car, before she opened the door and got in. For the first time that night, things didn’t feel awkward when they had locked eyes.
‘’You three kind of remind me of Sophia, Sophie and I. We always have each other’s backs. We’re like sisters.’’ Daniela said as she put on her seatbelt.
‘’Yeah, they are idiots but, they are my idiots. They are my little family here, since my own family lives quite a bit away.’’ Megan said.
‘’Where do they live?’’ Daniela asked, now looking at the younger girl beside her.
‘’Hawaii. I’m from Honolulu. I came to LA for college. When I first got here, and I was staying at the dorms, I had this roommate. She was so mean to me. She was mean to everyone, but especially to me. She kind of bullied me a little. And I was too scared to stand up for myself. I didn’t really have anyone when I first got here, until Lara and Manon decided to sit with me at lunch one day. I always sat alone, tucked away in a corner, where no one could see me. But they saw me, and at some point joined. They stood up for me towards that girl, and just, kept me company. They helped me build my confidence too, though that is still a work in progress. We weren’t even in the same year or major. Manon studied fine arts, and Lara performing arts, both third year students at the time. I was a first year computer science and programming major. We are very different, but it works.’’ Megan told, and Daniela clung onto every word that spilled from her lips.
‘’Sorry, I totally just went on a yapp.’’ the younger girl chuckled awkwardly as she looked down.
‘’It’s okay. I like yapps. Sophie, Sophia and I met at the club. All of our families live quite far away. I’m from Atlanta Georgia, Sophia from the Philippines and Sophie’s parents travel a lot. So all we really have is each other. Or, well, they have Lara and Manon now too. They are my little family as well.’’ Daniela said, flashing her a soft and genuine smile.
‘’Did you come to LA to dance at the club?’’ Megan then asked, curious. She was tired, exhausted even, having to get out of bed at four in the morning, but right now she didn’t care. She wanted to talk to the older girl. To just have a genuine conversation with her. Daniela thought for a moment, before she replied honestly.
‘’No. I originally came here to join a training program for young dancers. But they didn’t think I had what it took, and didn’t see me getting there either, so I got eliminated. After that I tried to get other dance jobs, but without an agency it was a long shot. And I never passed any of the auditions I sent to agencies. Eventually I ran out of money and well, desperate times called for desperate measures, and I got a job at the club. And then I just, stayed there.’’ she explained, a sense of sadness readable on her face. Megan saw it.
‘’But, you do like working there, right?’’ she asked carefully. The older girl just shrugged. She honestly wasn’t even sure. She tried not to think about that. Afraid of the answer.
‘’I don’t know. I guess so. My dream is to dance, first and foremost. I don’t care on what stage or in front of who. But I guess, I had pictured it differently in my head.’’ she chuckled bitterly.
‘’And dancing there comes with sacrifices. Losing friends and family, relationship troubles. Most normal people aren’t too fond of strippers. Getting a normal job is harder too with this on my resume. In rehearsals, as I put my whole act together, it feels worth it. But then I get on stage, and it’s always just a little, disappointing. And then afterwards I just feel a little, I don’t know, empty, and I wonder if it was all worth it.’’ she continued. Megan didn’t say anything. She just listened. She just let the girl talk.
‘’Sometimes I just wish I was normal. That I had just gone to college like my mom had told me and had just gotten a normal job. But I have made my choice, and I need to live with that now.’’ she finished. Megan thought for a moment, before she replied.
‘’I’m sorry to hear that. I can understand that it must be hard. But just so you know, is anyone ever really normal? I went to college. I got a very normal degree, and have a very normal job. Boring even, according to some. Yet I have more action figurines than friends and I have been single for the past 25 years. We all have our things. And there’s always going to be people who have, an opinion, on that. Fuck them. Do what you want to do. Do what makes you happy. The right people will love you for all of you.’’ she said. Daniela flashed her a soft smile.
‘’I know. I just, I’m not sure if this is what makes me happy anymore. I guess I have some regrets.’’ she replied, as she fiddled with her fingers in her lap.
‘’Then do something else. Something that does make you happy.’’ Megan said, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. Daniela scoffed a little.
‘’Like what?’’ she asked, now looking up at the girl.
‘’How old are you again?’’ the younger girl asked her.
‘’26, turning 27 in July.’’ she answered.
‘’Daniela, you are 26. You have your whole life still in front of you and the world at your feet. The possibilities are endless. You can try to find another dance job. You can just make a career switch entirely, going on to do something entirely different. You can go to college. You can do whatever you want.’’ Megan said.
‘’I don’t know. Am I not a little too old for college?’’ she chuckled. The idea sounded ridiculous in her head. That time had passed. And she’d never get it back.
‘’You’re never too old to learn. You don’t want to be 80, and look back with regret. It’s never too late to make a change. So don’t get yourself stuck in your current life with self-implied restrictions and limitations, thinking you have nowhere else to go anymore. Every path has side tracks. Some that lead to dead ends. And some that’ll lead you onto an entirely different path. Sometimes that path is better. Sometimes it’s worse. But you can take those turns any time you like. You don’t have to keep walking the same path all your life. Life is all about transition and transformation. We grow, we learn, we change, from the day we are born until the day we die. We evolve as people. Don’t hold yourself back from blossoming by staying in the shadow you have casted over yourself.’’ Megan spoke. Daniela just listened. She listened to every word she said, letting them sink in. She had never really talked about this with anyone before. But she felt safe with Megan.
‘’Don’t cry.’’ the girl said softly, as her hand went up to wipe the tear that Daniela hadn’t even noticed had spilled from her eye away. Her breath hitched a little when the girl’s thumb touched her cheek. Her touch was soft, gentle, warm. Daniela’s skin was soft underneath her fingertips. Megan’s heart pounded in her chest at the contact, at Daniela’s presence. It warmed her heart that the girl felt safe enough to talk about this with her.
‘’Sorry. I didn’t mean to go on a whole rant. But here we are.’’ Daniela chuckled as she dried her eyes, trying to save her mascara and eyeliner.
‘’It’s okay. This is a safe space. Vent all you want, miss Avanzini.’’ Megan smiled. Daniela felt her heart flutter at the nickname.
‘’You know, if you ever want a career change, consider becoming a therapist. You’re good.’’ Daniela joked, to lighten the mood a bit. Megan laughed at her words, genuinely laughed. Her laughter sounded melodic and chipper, bright. She wanted to hear it again.
‘’I’ll keep that in mind.’’ she replied.
‘’But for real, if this doesn’t make you happy anymore or it doesn’t serve you anymore, consider letting it go and moving on to something new. Life is too short to get stuck in one place.’’ Megan then said, a little more serious again. Daniela nodded. She had always told herself it was too late. That she had made her choice. But not because she really believed that that was true. Just because she was scared. Scared to let the past go and welcome the unknown future. Afraid of change.
‘’I know. And maybe I will. I don’t even know what I’d want to do instead though. And it’s scary. To let something you know go in return for the unknown. Feels, insecure.’’ Daniela replied.
‘’I know, and it’s okay to be scared. But remember, where one door closes, another door opens. You might not see that door now, because you are still stuck in the old room. But that new room can hold something wonderful. You just need to be brave enough to walk through the doorway.’’ the younger girl said, their eyes now locking.
‘’And you can take your time to figure out what you want instead. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. Take it easy.’’ she added.
‘’I think I might take some time to think about that, yes. Thanks, Megan. Really.’’ Daniela said, genuinely. Megan smiled at her, their eyes never leaving each other.
‘’Anytime.’’ she replied.
‘’We should probably get home now though. It’s like five in the morning and I kind of want to be back in my bed before sunrise.’’ Megan chuckled. She wanted to stay and talk more, but her exhaustion was getting the better of her.
‘’Yeah, we should.’’ Daniela chuckled, the two now looking away from each other.
‘’So, where to, miss Avanzini?’’ Megan then asked, as she opened her maps on her phone.
Daniela gave her her address, before they drove off. The ride was silent. But this time, it was a peaceful silence. Daniela felt relieved, satisfied, not just because she had felt a bit of a connection with Megan during their conversation, but because the girl had actually helped her. She had given her hope again.
They arrived at her apartment building pretty quickly.
‘’Thanks for driving me home, and for the chat.’’ Daniela said as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
‘’No problem. I got you.’’ Megan smiled at her, shooting her a small and sweet wink. Daniela felt her cheeks heat up a little. For a second neither of them spoke or moved, until Daniela suddenly leaned over the centre console to pull the girl into a hug.
Her arms wrapping around her shoulders took Megan by surprise a little, but she soon melted into it, hugging her back with a soft smile.
‘’Will I see you around?’’ Daniela then asked, as she pulled away from the hug again.
‘’Maybe. Unless those two idiots suddenly get their shit together.’’ Megan replied, a hint of teasing in her voice.
‘’I hope they won’t.’’ Daniela replied and now it was Megan’s turn to feel flustered at the idea of Daniela wanting to see her again.
‘’Good night, Megan.’’ Daniela then said, before she left the car.
‘’Good night, miss Avanzini.’’ Megan replied, before the door slammed shut, and she watched the girl walk into the apartment building, her bottom lip trapped between her teeth as she tried to supress the shit eating grin from creeping up on her face.
Strip clubs really weren’t her thing, but for Daniela, she’d go back there.
Summary : Megan had just turned 25, and to celebrate, Manon and Lara had decided to take her to their favourite strip club. It wasn't Megan's scene at all, but her friends thought it was time for her to get some. Megan wasn't planning on doing anything like that though, just being a wallflower, tucked away in some corner of the club. But then, as she was about to leave, something unexpected happened. A key, sliding underneath the door of the restroom stall she was in. At first she was confused, but then the bartender told her. She had gotten invited. And not just by anyone. She had gotten invited by Daniela Avanzini, who never invited anyone.
''So, are you guys like going to tell me where we are going, or?'' Megan asked, her phone trapped between her ear and her shoulder as she put on her shoes.
A few days ago, it had been Megan's birthday. And today, Manon and Lara had promised to take her out to celebrate, but they had refused to tell her where they were going or what they were going to do. And Megan, well she hated surprises. She wanted to know what she was up for.
"It's a surprise. You'll see when we get there.'' One of her two best friends, Manon, said through the phone.
''You know you'll have to give me the address for me to drive there and I'll just be able to see where we are going, right?'' Megan said.
''You are literally impossible! Just work with us for once, Megs. Or else we'll never do any birthday surprises for you ever again.'' Lara said with a frustrated sigh. Megan just chuckled at her best friend's dramatics.
''Okay, okay, fine. I will not look up what the location is.'' Megan promised, but she knew she would do it anyway and just act surprised.
''You're such a liar, but fine, I'll send you the address.'' Lara said, knowing her friend too well.
Megan chuckled, before her phone buzzed against her ear. A message from Lara with the address had come in. She opened the chat, copying the address, before she pasted it into her google search bar.
''Be so fucking for real right now?'' Megan said to her friends as soon as she saw what the address was.
''What?'' Lara asked innocently, but knowing damn well what she and Manon were doing. They had planned this.
''That strip club you two always go to, seriously? If you two wanted to see your little girlfriends, you could have just asked me to schedule my birthday on another day, you know?'' Megan chuckled as she leaned back on her couch.
''Uhm, okay, excuse me, but we are not going there to see them. We are going there for you, miss Skiendiel.'' Lara said, faking offence at Megan's assumption of this being entirely for their own gain.
''And also a little bit to see them.'' Manon added quietly. Megan just chuckled and shook her head at the two.
''And why would I want to go to a strip club, miss Raj?'' she asked.
Strip clubs weren't exactly her scene, nor was any other party. Megan was more of a homebody. She liked calm and quiet places, private places, where there weren't too many people or noises. But her two friends loved to go out and party, and a couple of months ago they had accidentally landed themselves into this strip club in a drunken mess, and they had been going there every week since, obsessed with two of the dancers there that they had hooked up with that drunken night. They had asked Megan to join them many times, but the answer had always been no. Megan already hated normal clubs enough, let alone a strip club.
''This is not about wanting, Megan. This is about needing. You just turned 25 and you are still a virgin. It is about time you got some!'' Lara exclaimed. Megan let out a small sigh. Of course it was about this again.
Yes, Megan was a virgin. She had never slept with anyone before, or dated anyone. She had never gone further than a kiss. And once in a while, Lara and Manon would devise a plan to change that. Megan was very much okay with her virginity though. She hated forcing things. She would rather let love find her naturally. And so far it just, hadn't yet, but she was cool with that. Manon and Lara on the other hand, were about one step away from just taking the girl's virginity themselves if it would take much longer.
''What is it with you two and your obsession with my virginity?'' Megan asked jokingly.
''We just want you to experience the pleasures of intimacy as well, Megs. It's normal for people our age, and it's a wonderful experience that we want you to have as well.'' Manon explained.
''You are always either at work, or at home playing games on your computer. We just want you to experience the world and life at its fullest.'' Lara added.
''Hmm, sure. You just want your pussies ate by your stripper girlfriends tonight, don't you?'' Megan teased them. At that it fell silent on the other end of the line for a few seconds, before Lara spoke up.
''Two things can exist alongside each other.'' she said.
''Two birds, one stone?'' Manon commented.
''You two are horrible, you know that? But fine, I will go to that strip club with you, so you can see your girls and have a good time.'' Megan chuckled.
''If you really hate it, we can just come to your apartment and watch a movie though? It's your birthday, we just want you to have a good time.'' Lara then said, a little more serious now. Megan heaved a sigh.
''It's fine, Lara. I don't mind at all. Besides, I'm curious about these girls of yours. I've never seen them before, but you two can't shut up about them. Besides, I love seeing my best friends having a good time. That's a great gift to me. So I'll just hang in a corner, have a drink and people-watch.'' Megan said, a soft and genuine smile playing at her lips.
''Ugh, why do you always have to be so soft and selfless? You make me feel like a horrible person sometimes, you know that?'' Lara said. Megan chuckled at her friend's words.
''Yeah, you think you're a good person until you meet Megan Skiendiel for real.'' Manon agreed.
''You are both great people, but nobody's perfect. Call it room for improvement, loves.'' Megan teased.
''Okay, never mind. I take it back.'' Manon joked back.
''I'm hanging up. Bye Megan. Be there in fifteen minutes.'' Lara said, before she, without even giving the other two the opportunity to reply, hung up the call.
''Alright, see you in a bit, Mei. Bye bye.'' Manon then said, before she too, hung up.
Megan let out a small chuckle, lightly shaking her head in amusement, before she let out a sigh.
She had thought that maybe Lara and Manon would take her on some fun activity, or just out for drinks at a bar. Never had she thought that she would be celebrating her birthday at a strip club. She hadn't dressed for it either. She had just thrown on her favourite pair of baggy jeans and an oversized shirt and hoodie, her dark hair tied in a high bun for comfort, the black frame of her large glasses sat comfortably on her nose, too tired to put in her contacts. She wasn't wearing any make-up either. But she didn't have time to change anymore. And so she was going to have to accept that she was going to be severely underdressed, especially next to Lara, who loved to glam up. But maybe it was better that way. She'd stand out less if she just looked, simple.
''Alright, let's get this over with.'' Megan encouraged herself, before she grabbed her phone, wallet and car keys and finally left her apartment.
The drive to the club wasn't very long. She had almost spent more time finding a place to park than to get to actual destination. When she arrived at the club, Lara and Manon were already waiting for her near the entrance. Both had made great efforts in their looks, both having gone for a sexy outfit and a full face of make-up, hair done nicely.
''Are you fucking kidding me?'' Lara exclaimed as she walked up to the younger girl.
''We invite you to a strip club for your birthday, and you show up in jeans and a hoodie? This is exactly why you're still a virgin.'' Lara said. Megan just laughed.
''Well, maybe if you had told me on time where we were going, I would have had enough time to get ready properly. Now I had no idea that there was a dress-code.'' Megan said as she gave her best friends a hug.
''Who knows? Maybe someone there's into losers.'' Manon commented.
''Hey! I'm not a loser.'' Megan playfully punched the older girl's shoulder.
''Megan, you design games and program computer shit. You play videogames all day in your free time. We are your only two friends, and only because we pitied how lonely you looked during lunch in college. You've never dated. You've never fucked. You don't party. You don't really drink. You barely go out. And you have a collection of Pokémon cards in binders stacked on your shelves. How are you not a loser?'' Manon summed up.
''Because I work hard and make bank with my computer shit, and I drive a nice car, and I have a nice apartment, and I wear branded clothes and designer perfumes, because I might be a nerd, but I'm successful as heck?'' Megan fired back confidently.
''You spend more time on your phone playing Clash of Clans than you do swiping on the Tinder account we made for you. None of what you just said de-losered you, sorry.'' Lara said, joining Manon's side.
''Tsk, whatever. At least my girlfriend isn't a stripper.'' Megan shot back.
''At least we have girlfriends, kind of. And there is nothing wrong with being a stripper, Megan.'' Lara said.
''My apologies. Now let's go, before I change my mind and go back home.'' Megan teased, motioning for them to go inside.
As they passed the security guard at the door, Manon and Lara greeted him happily, before he let them pass without asking for their ID's, knowing them well enough now to know they were old enough to be there. And soon they were met with flashy red and purple lights and sensual music.
There was one stage, in the middle of the room. It had the shape of a circle, with a pole in the middle and some stools and tables surrounding it. Then there was the bar, various bottles of God even knew what on the shelves. In the back, there was a hallway, but Megan couldn't really see what was in there.
''Those are the backrooms. Every dancer at this club has her own backroom. When they perform, people can throw money at them and like cheer them on. If they find someone in the crowd interesting enough, they can invite them to their backroom by handing them a spare key. The people here can't like request themselves to go into the backroom with a dancer. You have to be invited, so when you stand near the stage, look appealing and throw a lot of money at your favourites.'' Manon explained to Megan when she saw the girl staring at the hallway.
''Is that how you two bagged your women?'' Megan asked, shooting them both a teasing smile.
''Yeah, we got invited, and I guess we were good enough for them, because every time we were here, they invited us again. Eventually they even started asking us to spend time together outside of the club. Hence how Manon ended up in a relationship with one, and I in an exclusive situationship.'' Lara replied.
''I see. Very interesting way of finding love, but you do you loves.'' Megan said with a chuckle.
''Alright, so, our ladies will be up soon, so let's take a seat, order some drinks and just enjoy the show. Where do you want to sit, Megs?'' Manon suggested.
Megan looked around for a bit. Choosing a seat was like a game of chess to Megan. She needed to be strategical. She didn't want to be too much in the view of, well, anyone. Eventually her eyes landed on a corner seat near the bar, kind of tucked away from the party. Perfect, she could just be a wallflower there.
''Over there?'' Megan said, pointing at the table.
''You are such a square, but fine.'' Lara joked, before they all made their way over to the table.
Manon then went to get them some drinks, a cocktail for her and Lara, and an alcohol free beer for Megan. She still had to drive home.
''So, Sophie will be up in about half an hour and Sophia will be up after her. We will be front row for that. All the others we can watch from here and hey, if anyone catches your eye, don't be shy to go up there.'' Manon said, nudging Megan, who just chuckled and shook her head.
''Strippers aren't exactly my type, Manz.'' Megan replied.
''Yeah, just wait until you see these strippers though.'' the older woman chuckled.
''What is your type though? We literally never hear you about girls.'' Lara then said. Megan thought for a moment, before she shrugged.
''I don't know. I don't think I really have a type look-wise. I just need to vibe with someone's personality.'' Megan answered.
''Bullshit. Everyone has a type. Let me ask it like this, what would you like your girlfriend to have?'' Lara asked.
''I guess I like pretty girls. Maybe a bit cute? I definitely like feminine women. A girl that has both a soft and gentle side, and a fierce and hot side. Someone with a good sense of humour who doesn't think my jokes are lame and like, gets my weirdness. Someone passionate. I value honesty and trust a lot. Someone who likes to be taken care of, since I'm such a giver when it comes to love, but who also is there for me and takes care of me in a way.'' Megan said, trying to picture the ideal woman in her head.
''Okay, we're getting somewhere now. So what do you find pretty in a girl, like what features?'' Lara continued to ask as she sipped her drink.
''Hm, I tend to like girls with dark hair, long hair. I like dark eyes as well. A tiny bit shorter than me, but not a lot. A nice smile. I don't really care about the rest.'' Megan shrugged. There were many things she found beautiful in a girl. But she also thought that anyone was the most beautiful if they were just themselves, pure and raw. Beauty came from within in Megan's opinion.
''Okay, okay. Well, who knows? Maybe someone will catch your eye anyways?'' Lara nodded, but Megan doubted it. She wouldn't say that to the girl though. She would just try to enjoy this night as much as she could and carry on with her regular life tomorrow.
Shortly after that, the lights changed, and the show started. Every girl had about 30 minutes of stage time to do their routines and choreographies. The three watched them all, Lara and Manon cheering a little here and there while Megan felt a little uncomfortable watching these women rip their clothes off on a stage and to watch old men stuff dollar bills in their panties and bra's.
''Oh! Sophie and Sophia are up now! We'll be back in an hour, Megs!'' Manon exclaimed as she quickly got up and pulled Lara with her to the stage. Megan stayed seated, just watching from afar.
A brunette with wavy hair and a few tattoos got onto the stage. Megan watched as she danced, and Manon swooned in front of the stage, cheering her on. Eventually the girl, Sophie, sat down on the edge of the stage near Manon, pulling the girl to stand in between her legs, before she leaned in to kiss her. They made out for a minute or so, before the girl handed her a key, and Manon took it with a grin. Megan had to admit, the girl was stunning, and her friend seemed happy.
After Sophie, an Asian girl took the stage, and this time it was Lara who was going crazy. So this was Sophia. The girl looked gorgeous. Megan would have called her beauty angelic, if she hadn't been on a stage in barely anything dancing on a pole right now while her best friend basically drooled on herself. The performance ended with the girl tossing a key to Lara, before Megan watched her two friends walk back over to her with a shit eating grin on both of their faces.
''You two are so far gone.'' Megan joked when they reached the table again.
While Manon went to get them more drinks, Lara yapped about Sophia, but Megan wasn't paying much attention. She had busied herself on her phone, playing a game. She needed to collect her daily reward before midnight, which it almost was now. She had no eye for the dancers anymore. Not even when the final dancer made her way onto the stage and the whole club, Manon and Lara included, went haywire.
She had glanced up once to see what the commotion was all about, and all she saw was some curly haired woman dancing, like all the other dancers had danced before her. She wasn't sure what was special about her. But she didn't really care either.
''I bet she loves it, having everyone at her feet yet never inviting anyone to her room. I have not once seen her give someone a key. Such a fucking power trip.'' she heard Lara say from beside her.
''I swear, whoever gets Daniela Avanzini is one lucky motherfucker.'' Manon replied.
''The day she invites someone to her room, is the day pigs start flying, I swear to God.'' Lara chuckled.
On the stage, Daniela was feeling herself, like she always did. She knew she was hot. She knew she was an amazing dancer. And she knew she had everyone at her feet, although, she was mildly disgusted that most people at her feet were middle aged men. Once in a while she'd see younger people, but never anyone worth her time. Never anyone that deserved to even be near her, let alone touch her. Hence why she had never invited anyone to her room. And also because she was a stripper, a dancer, not a whore. She did this because she loved to dance, and because it made good money, which she really needed, not to fuck and be used as a toy for old men whose wives were all dried up after thirty years of a marriage they regretted.
She always tried to not look at their faces, or at least as little as possible, and she made sure to never get close enough to the edge of the stage for them to be able to touch her. They probably thought it was part of the game, but to Daniela it was just because most of her 'fans' grossed her out a little.
And so she always just kept her eyes on the back of the club, near the bar, where no one ever sat, except for tonight. For the first time, the corner table was occupied. Three women, of which she recognized two, Lara and Manon. She knew them because of Sophie and Sophia. And she saw them there every week. They were nice, fun, pretty. A nice change from the usual old men she saw. But it was always just the two of them, except for now.
There was another girl with them, sat in the middle. While Lara and Manon watched her, cheered for her, the girl was staring at her phone, thumbs tapping away at the screen, device tilted 90 degrees in her hand. Was she seriously playing a mobile game during her performance? The girl didn't even spare her a glance. She then looked at the girl's outfit, for as far as she could. It was simple, casual, totally not a club vibe. Did she even want to be here?
Part of Daniela was pissed off, offended, that some game was more appealing than the performance she had spent hours rehearsing. But a part of her was intrigued as well. Everyone was always so eager and greedy here, so desperate and obvious in their desire for her. It was almost, refreshing, to have someone here that had less interest in her than she had in the girl, so it seemed. She couldn't really make out the girl's face, but considering that she was with Lara and Manon, she assumed that she was around their age and thus also her own age.
When her performance ended, Lara and Manon averted their gazes to Megan, looking at her expectantly. Megan let out a chuckle as she heaved a sigh.
''Yes, you can go to those backrooms and get your pussies eaten by your girlfriends. I'll be fine. I'll just finish my drink and go home.'' Megan replied, as she put away her phone, already knowing what question was burning on their tongues before they had even said it.
''Thank you! You are the best!'' Manon said, before she planted a kiss on the younger's cheek.
''We love you, Megan!'' Lara let out, before planting a kiss on the other cheek. Megan just chuckled, as she wiped her cheeks and watched the two happily skip to the backrooms. Her friends were such idiots. But they were her idiots.
With a deep breath, she leaned back, taking the last few sips of her beer. It was a little past midnight now, and Megan was about ready to just go home and get into her bed.
And so she would. But first, she would go to the restrooms to empty her bladder.
From backstage, eyes were watching her, following her as her figure made its way into the women's restroom. She caught a glimpse of her face as she opened the door to the restroom, the lights illuminating her features for a second. She was beautiful. Hot in a laid back way. Nonchalant. Like she was beautiful, but really couldn't care less. It was attractive. And so with long strides, Daniela followed her into the restroom.
When she got inside, only one stall was occupied. From the pocket of her leather shorts, she grabbed a key that had never been in anyone's possession but her own. For a second she thought, before she dropped the key on the ground, kicking it underneath the door and into the stall with her foot, before she left the restroom again.
Megan was just looking at the ground as she peed, when she saw a key slide into her stall from the other side. Her brow furrowed as she stared at it, before she hesitantly picked it up. It was just a key, with a keychain with a number on it. 04, it said. Had someone dropped it?
When she was done peeing, she washed her hands, before she left the restroom, key in hand. She made her way over to the bar, ready to hand over the key, thinking someone had dropped their key by accident and might be looking for it now or later. She really was too pure and innocent.
''Hey. I found this key on the bathroom floor. Is there a lost and found or somewhere I can leave it?'' Megan asked as she showed the bartender the key. He took it from her. She was about to walk away when he spoke up.
''Miss?'' he called, stopping her and making her turn around again.
''This is one of our keys. The key to backroom 4.'' the man said.
''Oh, well, one of your dancers must have dropped it then. Can you give it back to whoever it belongs to?'' she asked. The man just chuckled, as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
''Room 4 is Daniela's backroom. If it was on the restroom's floor, it wasn't by accident. She doesn't even use the public restroom here. She uses the one backstage.'' the man said. Megan's brow furrowed in confusion, not sure what the man was trying to tell her.
''So?'' she asked.
''So, it looks like you got invited. So, take the key and go enjoy it.'' he smiled, as he put the key on the counter for her to grab, before he continued his work.
Megan just stared at the key in front of her, before she took it again.
She got invited? By Daniela, that last dancer? The one she heard Lara and Manon say never invited anyone? No way. She had been hidden in a corner all night. There was no way the girl had seen her. This had to be a mistake or a misunderstanding. Maybe the girl had mistaken Megan for someone else?
Whatever it was, if the bartender was not going to take the key to its owner, Megan would. She would just go to the room, open it, hand the woman the key, and leave again. And then off to her apartment, and eventually bed, she would be.
She hesitated for a second, as she stood in front of the door that led to the hallway of backrooms. She felt nervous, and she wasn't sure why. Nothing was going to happen. She was just returning a key she found.
With a deep breath, she went inside and she searched for the door that had the number 4 on it. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she stood in front of the door.
''It's just a key. Let's just get it over with.'' she told herself. She didn't know why she was so nervous. Once the girl would see her, she would probably realize she had given the key to the wrong person anyways, because no way had she invited Megan. And maybe that was exactly why she felt scared. Because maybe deep down, that would hurt her feelings a little for unknown reasons.
She shook her head, before she put the key in the lock, and unlocked the door, opening it and peeking inside.
At first she saw no one, and then, when she stuck her head through the doorway further, she saw her. Her back was facing her, as she stared out one of the windows, curtains moved to the side to give her a view. She was still wearing her stage outfit and the lights in the room were dim. There was a double bed, and a small sofa and coffee table. She wasn't sure what to do or say, and so she just stood there in the doorway.
''Are you going to come in or not?'' the woman said, voice firm, slightly amused. The sound made Megan's heart jump, and she swallowed hard.
''Uhm, hey. I uh, I got your key.'' Megan said, clearing her throat.
''I know.'' Daniela replied.
''I came to bring it back. So, hereby. I will leave now. Good night.'' Megan said, walking into the room to put the key on the coffee table.
At her words, Daniela turned around, a little stunned.
''You're leaving?'' she asked, surprised. No one had ever rejected her. Yet here the girl was, rather going home than spending the night with her. She wasn't sure if she was offended, or turned on.
Their eyes met, soft coffee brown ones staring back at sharp but sweet honey brown ones. Daniela was stunning, thick dark curls framing her face, eyes sharp, lips plump. And Megan, with her big glasses and make-up-less face, so naturally beautiful to Daniela that it pissed her off that someone just casually naturally looked that good.
''I- do you not want me to?'' Megan asked, unsure of what was happening.
''Why the fuck would I give you the key if I didn't want you here?'' Daniela asked, as if she was stupid. Megan just shrugged.
''I figured you had accidentally given it to me but had meant to give it to someone else?'' she said.
''Why would I not give it to you on purpose?'' Daniela asked, narrowing her eyes at her.
''Because I'm me. I was just tucked away in a corner all night.'' she replied.
''Maybe that's exactly why I invited you? You seem, different.'' Daniela stated, walking around her, circling her like a shark hunting its prey, her eyes raking up and down the girl's body, making her a little uncomfortable. Megan felt her face heat up at the thought that Daniela had actually invited her, flattered that a pretty girl like her was interested in her.
''Oh, I see. Well, thanks for inviting me then. But uh, I don't know, this is not really my thing, honestly, hooking up like this or places like these. My friends kind of dragged me here. So, uh, thanks but I think I will just go home. Your performance was great though, this is nothing personal.'' Megan said, trying to let the girl down gently without offending her. Daniela just scoffed, not believing what she was hearing. Was this girl seriously rejecting her? Was she crazy? Or was she just that much of a loser? Whatever it was, the rejection only made Daniela want her more.
''How the fuck are you friends with party animals like Lara and Manon yet you hate shit like this? And how do you know my performance was good? You were staring at your phone the whole time. So rude.'' Daniela huffed. Megan just scratched the back of her head, feeling caught.
''Sorry. I-I just, I'm more of a homebody.'' Megan stuttered, feeling her nerves increase at the tone with which the girl was talking to her. She was so direct. It scared Megan a little. Daniela caught onto this.
''Am I making you nervous?'' she asked with a sly grin as she stepped closer to the girl. But Megan just took a step back, looking down.
''You're making me a little uncomfortable, to be honest. I hate stuff like this. Parties, clubs, strippers, hook-ups.'' Megan said.
''I'm making you uncomfortable?'' Daniela asked, now genuinely offended.
''Why? Because of how I look? Can't handle exposed ankles or shoulders? Because of my job? Because I dance like this for money? What, do you think I'm some kind of whore? I should have never invited you. This was a mistake.'' Daniela said as she turned her back at the girl again, going back to staring out the window. She had heard many things on how she made people feel, but uncomfortable wasn't one of them. It hurt her feelings a little honestly. Like she was some sort of sex predator here while all she had done was talk to the girl.
Megan could hear in her voice that she had offended the girl, and she immediately felt guilty. She hadn't meant it like that.
''Daniela-'' she started, but the girl cut her off.
''Please get the fuck out of my room.'' Daniela ordered.
''I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I didn't mean to offend you. I told you it's nothing personal. You are gorgeous and you dance amazingly. I don't think you're some hooker. I respect your art, and you. I just, I don't know. Maybe there is just something wrong with me? For being in my twenties and hating a party, for having always hated parties. For being afraid of intimacy because I'm insecure and often don't feel like I'm good enough for the other person. For needing some sort of a connection with someone to even be able to get to the point of intimacy instead of just putting my mind on zero and hooking up for a night. I guess I just function differently than the people that come here. And I'm sorry if I gave you the idea that I wanted this by showing up here, only to reject you again. I just, I hate all of this. The crowds, the noise. I like quiet places. Homey places. I like natural moments. Raw moments. Just me and the other being ourselves in each other's presence. No shows or acts or performances. Quite the opposite of all of this. Sorry.'' Megan rambled, unsure of where her story was going or what point exactly she was trying to make.
Her voice was soft, and Daniela listened to every word that left her lips. Guilt washed over her. She hadn't meant to lash out and accuse her like that. She seemed sweet. So much sweeter than anyone here. Because sweet people stayed at home. Sweet people found partners at cosy café's or libraries or parks. Not at a strip club. Only dirty fuckers ever came here. And they only ever came here for one thing. To fuck a pretty thing.
Megan waited for a response, but it never came, and so she decided it would be best to just leave. But just as she turned for the door, Daniela spoke up.
''I'm sorry, for lashing out. I just, I don't know. Most people would have already had their clothes off by now, hands begging to touch me. I guess you just took me by surprise. But it's okay if this is not your thing. You don't have to do anything with me. You can leave if you want.'' Daniela said, now turning to the girl again. Megan smiled softly at her words.
''Thanks. Can I ask though, why me?'' Megan asked, curious.
''What do you mean?'' Daniela asked.
''I was hidden away playing a game and my outfit is giving bare minimum. Besides, I heard you never invite anyone. So why me?'' Megan clarified. Daniela thought for a second.
''I don't know. I guess the disinterest was kind of attractive, just, not someone who acts like I'm some God for once. Someone normal. Besides, I think you look great. Very attractive, the whole nonchalance.'' she answered. Megan couldn't help the small smile from creeping up on her face, a slight tint of rosy colouring her cheeks. She felt flattered to be considered attractive by someone as beautiful and fierce as Daniela.
''Thanks. You are very attractive too and I'm pretty sure if we had met under different circumstances, I might not have rejected you. Although, the whole stripper thing is considerably hot as well, in a way.'' Megan replied.
Daniela smiled, but she felt a little sting in her chest. Different circumstances. Normal circumstances. It almost hurt that those weren't the circumstances under which they had met. The idea that the girl would have said yes, would have probably taken her out on a date, like normal people, if only they had met under normal circumstances, pained her. The idea that the girl would walk out of here in a few minutes, to be never seen here again, made her heart ache a little. Why couldn't she just be normal? Just some girl drinking her coffee at a cute café while doing college work on her laptop. It wasn't the first time this had happened. She had been rejected for what she did as her work before. It was a curse, for her to always fall for those who weren't into the whole stripper thing.
''Anyways, I think I'm just going to go now.'' Megan then said, awkwardly pointing at the door.
''Yeah, of course. Sorry, again, for everything.'' Daniela said, snapping back to reality. Everything in her was begging for her to somehow stop the girl from leaving, but she knew it was useless. Megan had made it clear that she didn’t want this, and Daniela wanted to respect that.
''Alright then. Have a good night and maybe I'll see you again some time if my friends ever decide to force me to come here again.'' Megan chuckled as she walked towards the door.
''Before you go, I never caught your name. Who am I wishing a good night here?'' Daniela asked, wanting at least something that she could use to find the girl again if she ever wanted to. At her words, Megan turned her head, and she shot her a soft smile.
''Megan.'' was all she said. Daniela thought it was cute, Megan. It fit her. A soft and light name. Almost a little playful and fun.
''Good night, Megan.'' Daniela smiled, before Megan left the room, disappearing from her view.
Megan.
She was going to remember that name.
I am currently finishing up a four part Meizini story and all parts will be released at once so you guys are going to be in for a real treat here.
It was supposed to be a oneshot, but the plot got a little out of hand and I got a little carried away. But it's going to be great. It'll have everything, some spicy scenes, some angst, and a lot of fluff.
I will try to finish writing the last part today and upload all the parts tomorrow ♡
If the first half of this oneshot seems familiar to you, the first half/angst part is also on my Wattpad with the title "One More Mistake" in my Katseye oneshot book there. I added smut and fluff to it here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a little past twelve in the morning, and Megan had just gotten out of the shower, ready to go to bed.
When she checked her phone one last time before going to sleep, however, she saw that somebody had been blowing up the device with calls, and not just anyone. It was Lara. Megan felt her throat tighten at the sight of the name on her screen. Why was she calling her again?
Megan jumped a little when another call from the girl came in, and she stared at her screen, her finger hovering over the pick-up button, before she heaved a sigh and pressed it, even though she knew that she shouldn’t.
‘’Hello?’’ Megan said, as she brought the phone to her ear, but she heard nothing but background noise.
‘’Lara?’’ she called, and then she heard the heavy breathing of a person.
‘’Megan?’’ a voice she recognised to be Lara’s said. She sounded out of breath and a little panicked, and Megan’s breath got stuck in her throat at the sound of the girl’s voice.
‘’Megan I need your help. I went out but my last train just got cancelled and now I’m stranded and I don’t know what to do. Please-‘’ the girl rambled frantically, before Megan cut her off.
‘’Hey, hey, slow down. Take a breath. What is going on?’’ Megan asked, and she heard Lara take a deep breath, before she spoke again.
‘’I went out with some friends. I was going to take the last train home, but it got cancelled and now I am stranded here.’’ the girl explained, a bit calmer now. Megan could hear that the girl was a little tipsy now too.
‘’Where are your friends?’’ Megan asked as she heaved a sigh.
‘’They went home a while ago, drunk, so they’re useless. You are the only person I could come up with to call. I don’t have anybody else. And you know I can’t take ubers anymore after what happened.’’ the girl said, her voice small and slightly breaking. It made Megan’s heart ache to hear the girl like this.
‘’I know.’’ was all Megan said. Lara had had a, bad, experience with some guy in an uber once and was now afraid to take them. Megan knew this.
‘’Can you please come and pick me up? Please Megan?’’ the girl pleaded, and Megan let out a deep breath. This was a bad idea. She knew that, but she also couldn’t just leave the girl out there in the cold.
‘’Lara, I don’t know. I don’t know if this is a good idea.’’ Megan managed to say. She had to stay strong.
‘’Megan, please. I need you.’’ the girl said desperately, and Megan could feel her heart thump in her chest. Those words, they warmed and hurt her heart so much at the same time. She knew that if she were to go and pick her up, it would just end in heart-break, again. But she couldn’t leave the girl alone out there, and to be frank, Megan was not strong like that, and so she gave in, like she always did.
‘’Alright. Send me your location and I’ll be on my way.’’ Megan said, despite her mind telling her not to.
‘’Thank you.’’ Lara said, her voice soft, before Megan hung up the phone.
A few minutes later, Lara sent her the location, and Megan was on her way.
It didn’t take the girl too long to reach the place where Lara was at, and she parked her car alongside a curb as she took out her phone to text the girl that she had arrived, but before she could even send the message, the door to the passenger’s side of her car swung open and a heavily breathing Lara got in. For a moment Megan just studied the girl. She looked stunning, as always. Her black hair was put up in a high ponytail while two strands of hair hung loosely in front of her face. Her make-up was a little smudged here and there, but still fierce, and she wore a tight black dress that hugged her body perfectly and stopped right above her knees. God she was still as perfect as ever.
‘’Thanks for picking me up. You are saving me here.’’ Lara said as she stared at the girl beside her.
‘’Don’t mention it.’’ Megan said, as she started her car again, averting her gaze to the road in front of her, before she’d lose it.
‘’Sorry for making you do this late at night.’’ the girl then said as they drove off.
‘’It’s fine, Lara.’’ Megan said. She was not in the mood to talk to the girl, and would have preferred this car ride to go by in silence, but knowing the girl, she knew it wouldn’t. She had already noticed the look in the older girl’s eyes. She knew that look by now, and so she knew she had to be careful and she shouldn’t look at her for too long, or at all, for that matter.
‘’You look nice.’’ the girl commented after a few minutes of silence, and Megan felt her hands clench around the steering wheel. She decided not to reply and to just focus on the road ahead of her.
‘’I've always liked your natural look.’’ the girl continued. Her voice was laced with genuineness, but her eyes had a clear intention.
‘’Can we not do this?’’ Megan replied, before she let out a sigh.
‘’Can you please just let me drop you off at your apartment?’’ Megan continued, her voice pleading, and Lara nodded, before she turned her head to look out the window.
Once they got to Lara’s apartment, Megan stopped right in front of the main entrance, putting her car in park. She watched as Lara rummaged through her bag.
‘’Fuck. I can’t find my keys.’’ the girl said as she searched her bag, but to no avail.
‘’Let me look.’’ Megan said as she grabbed the bag, and after looking through it, she realised the keys really weren’t in there.
‘’Your pockets maybe?’’ Megan then spoke up.
‘’I’m wearing a dress Megan, I don’t have pockets.’’ Lara retorted, as Megan heaved a sigh again. Of course the girl just had to lose her keys.
‘’Do you know anybody with a spare key?’’ Megan asked, but Lara shook her head.
‘’No.’’ she answered.
‘’So what now?’’ Megan asked, frustration audible in her voice.
‘’Can I stay over?’’ Lara asked innocently.
‘’No.’’ Megan replied. She could not let the girl sleep in her apartment. She knew how that would end, and she could not do that to herself again. Not when, for the first time in two years, she felt like she was finally starting to move on. Not when she had promised herself she wouldn’t go running back to the girl again, and she wouldn’t let the girl run back to her anymore.
‘’Please, Megan. Where else am I supposed to go? You know I don’t have any family here and my friends won’t answer right now. You can’t just leave me on the streets here.’’ the girl pleaded, and Megan let her head drop onto the steering wheel. What was she supposed to do now? She couldn’t let Lara stay over because she knew what would happen if she did, but she also couldn’t leave the girl on the streets. She thought for a moment, before she made a decision.
‘’Fine, but tomorrow morning you go home as soon as I wake up, and no tomfoolery this time.’’ Megan said sternly, at which Lara just nodded, but Megan could see in the girl’s eyes that she didn’t mean it.
‘’Lara, I mean it this time. I’m done. I can’t keep doing this with you, so please, whatever you’re planning, don’t.’’ Megan said, her tone serious, and she could see Lara swallow at her words. In her eyes, Megan could see that she hadn’t seen this coming, but eventually she nodded.
‘’Alright, let’s just go then.’’ Megan said finally, before she started the car again and drove off, this time to her own apartment.
For anybody wondering what had happened between the two, which is probably everybody, Megan and Lara used to date. They started dating during their senior year in high school, and their relationship was perfect for the first three years. But as they got older and life’s burdens and responsibilities and just adult life in general started to weigh down on them, they started to get into arguments. It started small, with some bickering about little things. Then the bickers turned into arguments, and the arguments turned into fights. Once in a while turned into weekly, and eventually weekly turned into daily. Until one of them snapped, which had been Lara, and she had screamed at Megan how she wanted to break up, before she grabbed a bag and left.
This was almost two years ago. The first time, they were apart for only a week, before they realised they missed each other and they got back together. For a few months things had gone well, but then they fell back into their old patterns, until this time Megan snapped and broke up with Lara. This time their break-up lasted a few weeks, before Megan drunkenly came running back to Lara, who had taken her back.
Again, things went well at first, for about a month, before the fighting started again. And then Lara said the magic words again and apart they were. A few months passed, and both were convinced they were really done this time, until Lara and Megan ran into each other at a party and they hooked up. After the hook-up, they got back together for exactly a week, before Lara backed out again. Then a few weeks later, Lara knocked on Megan’s door, drunk, and there they went again.
This time things were going to be different though. This time they’d do better. They went to a few counselling sessions, and they tried to change, and it worked, for a little while. And then the fighting came back, and one night Lara walked out the door and never walked back in. And a few days later, when Megan came home after work, all of Lara’s things were gone from her apartment. This was three months ago, and they hadn’t spoken since, until now.
At this point it was almost a routine. They’d break up, be apart for a bit, and then one of them would call up the other and they’d hook up and get back together with the promise that this time things were going to work out. But those promises were never kept, and it never worked. And tonight was no different, unless this time, Megan actually stayed strong. And she was planning to, because every time she lost the girl, it hurt just a little more, and she couldn’t take another heart-break. No matter how much she still loved the girl.
Soon enough, they got to Megan’s apartment, which was basically like home to Lara since she had lived with the girl since after they graduated high school, until they broke up.
‘’Can I take a shower?’’ Lara asked as they entered the apartment.
‘’Yeah, sure. You know the way. You can just grab clothes from my closet.’’ Megan replied as she kicked off her shoes.
‘’Thanks.’’ Lara replied, before she disappeared into Megan’s bedroom to grab some clothes.
The familiarity of the apartment and Megan’s scent that lingered there calmed Lara down after her intense night.
In all honesty, she hadn’t planned to call Megan. She too had promised herself that it was really over this time. But then the club situation happened that had left her scared and shaking, and she felt like she needed someone she felt safe with, and Megan was her safety, still. At first she had no intention on trying to get back with the girl or making any moves, but upon seeing the girl, all the feelings she had for her came flooding back. Despite all that had happened between them, Lara couldn’t let her go. Lara couldn’t stop wanting her, couldn’t stop loving her. She needed the girl. The past few months had been miserable for Lara. She felt so alone and incomplete without the girl. Megan was her home, and now that they were apart, she felt a stranger anywhere she went. She knew it was a long shot, Megan had made it very clear that she was done earlier, and Lara knew she should respect that, but she couldn’t help herself. She couldn’t stop fighting for her, for them.
As the hot water cascaded down her back, she closed her eyes and thought back at all the times Megan and her had been standing there together. She remembered what Megan’s hands felt like on her skin, how her body felt pressed up against the younger’s, how her soft lips would trail kisses down her neck and shoulders. She remembered her warmth, her comfort, her safety. She remembered the girl’s smile, her cute whisker dimples, her contagious laughter. And then she felt the tears that had begun to stream down her face. God what on earth had happened to them? They were so good together at first. They were that couple that would piss all the other couples off because they were just that perfect together. What had changed? Why had they started to fight? When had they started to drift apart? When had their foundation started to crack, and when had it broken? Was it still mendable? Or had it been damaged beyond salvation? She didn’t even want to answer those last two questions. She couldn’t imagine her life without Megan. She didn’t want to.
While Lara stood in the shower, Megan grabbed herself a blanket and a pillow, throwing them onto her sofa. She would take the couch tonight. When she heard Lara come out of the bathroom, she made her way into her bedroom, where the girl was sat on the edge of her bed.
‘’You can take my bed tonight. I’ll take the couch.’’ Megan spoke, to which Lara just nodded, before she got inside Megan’s bed, pulling the covers over her legs.
‘’If you need anything, you know the way.’’ Megan said, before she was about to leave again.
‘’Megan?’’ Lara called out, her voice small, as if it could break at any moment.
‘’Yeah?’’ Megan heaved a sigh.
‘’Will you stay with me?’’ the girl asked with pleading eyes and Megan let out a heavy breath.
‘’I know we said no tomfoolery, and I respect that, but I really don’t want to be alone tonight.’’ Lara spoke up before Megan could, looking down as she tried to not let her tears fall again.
‘’Lara-‘’ Megan said, before she got cut off by the older girl.
‘’Please.’’ the girl said, and hearing the strain in her voice just about broke Megan’s heart. When she locked eyes with the girl, the usual mischievous glint her chocolate brown eyes would carry was missing, replaced by what seemed to be hurt and fear.
‘’I swear I won’t make any moves this time. I promise. I just don’t want to be alone after what happened.'' she continued, her voice shaky.
‘’What happened?’’ Megan asked, as she sat down on the edge of her bed, not quite giving in yet, but not resisting either.
‘’After my friends had left, I went back into that club. I was just dancing when a group of guys approached me and they started talking to me, asking me to dance with them. I rejected them, but they were, persistent. I felt so helpless and scared knowing that they weren’t going to take no for an answer. I tried to escape by excusing myself to the restroom and sneaking out of the club, but they noticed and followed me. That’s when I called you. When they heard me talking to you, they left, but I was so scared Megan. My train never got cancelled, but I was too afraid to be alone and go home on my own. I was scared they’d find me again.’’ she said, a few tears escaping her eyes, and Megan felt her heart clench at her words as anger rose in her. She didn’t even want to imagine what could have happened if she hadn’t picked up.
‘’I’m so sorry that happened Lara.’’ she said as she took the older girl’s hand in her own, caressing the back of it with her thumb in a reassuring manner. The feeling of Lara lightly squeezing her hand sent a jolt of electricity through her body and Megan mentally cursed how big of an effect the girl still had on her.
‘’Can I be honest with you?’’ Lara then asked carefully, at which Megan nodded.
‘’I didn’t lose my keys. They are in the pocket of my jacket, and my jacket is in your car. I pretended I lost them, because the idea of being all alone tonight was just, daunting.’’ the older girl confessed, and Megan let out a sigh as she looked down.
‘’I know it isn’t fair, to be asking all of this of you, picking me up, letting me stay over, staying with me. I know that we should be moving on. But I can’t, Megan. I can’t let you go. I know what we have, what we had, it’s broken. I know that we aren’t good for each other, but I can’t let you go either. I can’t stop wanting you. I can’t stop needing you. I can’t stop loving you.’’ the older girl continued, thick, hot tears now streaming down her face as her hand held the younger’s tightly. Megan now also felt herself tear up, but she refused to let them fall. She had to stay strong.
‘’Lara. Please don’t do this to me.’’ was all Megan was able to let out, her voice small and strained, as she looked up to prevent her own tears from falling. It felt like someone was continuously poking at her heart with a knife.
‘’I’m sorry, but I can’t let you go, Mei. I love you.’’ Lara said, as she leaned forward to let her head rest on the younger girl’s shoulder, who let her. Megan didn’t say anything, for if she would, the tears would come out and she’d break down.
‘’Tell me you don’t want me anymore, that you don’t love me anymore, and I’ll let you go.’’ Lara then said, raising her head to look at Megan, who refused to look at her at first, but eventually turned her head towards the girl to meet her eyes, and her coffee brown eyes locked onto Lara’s chocolate brown ones, a single tear falling from her eye. She didn’t say anything. She couldn’t. She couldn’t tell Lara what she had asked her to tell her, because she still loved her.
‘’Lara. You know I can’t.’’ Megan said, her voice barely above a whisper.
‘’Then don’t.’’ Lara replied, as she brought one of her hands up to the younger girl’s face, cupping her cheek, wiping the tear that had fallen off of her cheek with her thumb. Her eyes searched the younger’s for any sign of resistance, but found none, and so she leaned in, and pressed her lips against the younger’s in a soft kiss filled with all that had been left unspoken. Megan didn’t kiss her back, but she didn’t push her away either. She just let her. It was heart-breaking yet comforting to feel the girl’s lips on hers once more. Lara was like a drug to her, highly addictive, destructive and detrimental to her well-being, yet impossible to stay away from because she just felt too good. And if Megan wasn’t careful, she’d relapse, if she hadn’t already.
‘’We shouldn’t be doing this.’’ Megan said as soon as Lara had pulled away again, who rested her forehead against the younger’s.
‘’Why not?’’ she asked.
‘’Because it always ends in heart-break, and every time, it hurts just a little more.’’ Megan spoke softly as she closed her eyes. She’d just smash their lips together again if she looked at the girl for a little too long.
‘’But what if I’m okay with the pain?’’ Lara then asked, not giving up.
‘’We deserve better than this, Lara.’’ Megan said, trying to convince the girl, and herself.
‘’I don’t want better. I want you.’’ Lara countered, her voice breaking at that last part.
‘’We aren’t good for each other, Lara.’’ Megan replied, and with every argument Megan shot back at her, Lara’s heart ached a little more, and a little bit of hope would leave her.
‘’We can change. We used to be so good together. We can work on ourselves and be like that again.’’ Lara argued.
‘’We tried that, Lara. Remember?’’ Megan responded, but Lara just lightly shook her head, more tears spilling from her eyes.
‘’Maybe if we tried a little harder?’’ Lara said, her voice laced with desperation.
‘’We shouldn’t have to.’’ Megan finally said, and at those words, Lara broke. Tears streamed down her face as a choked sob left her throat. She knew that nothing she said was going to change the girl’s mind. She knew that this time, it really was over. And she knew that it was the right thing to do. But it hurt so, so much. It hurt so much, she felt like dying. Those words, they were like a dagger being plunged into her heart. Megan felt it too, but she was better at hiding it, at keeping it together.
In one last desperate attempt to mend what had long been broken, Lara leaned in to connect their lips again, and Megan let her. If that was what the girl needed to accept the situation, then so be it.
‘’One more time. Please let me have you one more time, Megan. Just for a night. To say goodbye.’’ Lara pleaded after she had pulled away from the kiss again. Megan felt her head screaming at her to say no, to decline, but her heart was willing to give in to the offer.
‘’Aren’t we going to regret that in the morning?’’ Megan asked, unable to give the girl a clear answer.
‘’Probably.’’ was all the older girl replied, their faces still only inches apart, her breath warm on Megan’s lips as she spoke.
‘’This is a mistake.’’ Megan said, her voice barely audible.
‘’I know, but I’m okay with that. One more mistake.’’ Lara said and Megan thought for a moment, her head and heart screaming different things at her, before she chose who to listen to, and answered the girl.
‘’Alright, one more mistake.’’ and that was all Lara needed to hear to connect their lips once more. But this time, Megan did kiss her back, lips moving softly and slowly together, Lara’s hand finding its way to the back of her neck, while Megan’s found the older’s waist.
Lara knew, deep down, that what she had just done, what she had just pleaded for, was wrong. It was unfair to the younger girl. Unfair to herself. They needed to move on. They needed to let go. But she couldn’t. No matter how much she tried, or wanted to, she couldn’t. She couldn’t stick to the promise she had made herself to not make any moves. So here she was. Lips moving in sync with the younger’s, heat and emotions building up.
She felt bad. Megan wanted to move on. She was moving on. Megan didn’t want this. She had made it so clear. It wasn’t like Lara to be so mean, but here she was, pleading with her for one more night together. To let her crawl inside her veins and hold her one more time, like a hostage. And Megan let her. Despite all her head was screaming at her. She let her. She knew she was making it impossibly hard for herself by letting her. But she couldn’t reject her either. Her heart wouldn’t let her. Not entirely.
Megan wasn’t sure if her heart was blooming, or bleeding, at the feeling of Lara’s soft lips on hers. Despite their time apart, their lips hadn’t forgotten their cadence. Their tongues still remembered every step to their dance together. Their hands remembered the ways to travel. The familiarity felt safe, secure. It felt like home. For the first time since Lara had moved out of the apartment, she felt at home again. Not because she was at her house. But because she was with her.
Lara let out a small sigh as their kiss deepened, as if breathing out a burden she’d been carrying for way too long now.
Megan pulled her onto her lap, Lara straddling her, before she pulled away from the kiss to look at her. Their eyes hadn’t quite darkened yet. Desire was there, but the love and hurt was still winning it. Their eyes were glossy, cheeks tear stained. Yet Lara looked absolutely beautiful to her. She always did.
‘’You’re beautiful.’’ Megan said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes never leaving the older girl’s.
‘’Even when I’m a mess?’’ Lara chuckled.
‘’Especially when you’re a mess.’’ Megan chuckled back.
‘’And that’s the problem. I can’t say no to you. I never could.’’ she continued, forehead resting against the older’s, hands holding her waist while hers rested at the back of her neck.
‘’Yeah, you’ve always had trouble saying no to me.’’ Lara replied, a small smile tugging at her lips at the memories.
‘’What happened to us, Lara? Where did we go wrong?’’ Megan then asked, brow furrowing. Lara swallowed. The question made her heart ache.
‘’I don’t know.’’ was all she could reply, voice strained and barely above a whisper.
‘’It’s not fair.’’ Megan said, closing her eyes, tears falling again.
‘’We deserve our happy ending.’’ she added. Lara now felt her own eyes sting again as well.
‘’But instead, we’re nothing but each other’s demise.’’ she finished.
‘’Maybe it’s not too late yet? Maybe we can still fix this?’’ Lara replied, hopeful.
‘’No matter how hard we try, we always end up in the same place; together. No matter how far we run away from each other, we always end up finding our way back to each other. That has to mean something, right?’’ she added.
‘’What are you saying?’’ Megan asked.
‘’Maybe we are soul tied.’’ Lara whispered against her lips.
‘’Losing you just doesn’t feel right.’’ she added.
Their hearts were thumping in their chests, screaming to mend what had once been broken. Screaming for each other. Now all they had to do, was listen.
‘’We always said we’d be the ones they talk about when they think of love. That should’ve been us. That should be us. Maybe this love’s worth saving?’’ the older girl said.
Every little thing she whispered against her lips, made Megan’s heart beat just a little faster, and just a little wilder. She was slipping. She was relapsing. She wanted to give in. To agree with her. To take her back. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t say it. She knew better. She had to.
‘’One night, Lara. I agreed to one night. To say goodbye.’’ she said, looking down, unable to meet the younger’s eyes.
‘’Megan? Look at me.’’ Lara said, cupping the girl’s cheek, lifting her head to look at her and for their eyes to meet. Megan’s were blurry with tears ready to fall.
‘’Tell me again. Say that this is goodbye, and I will be gone here before you wake up in the morning, and I won’t ever come back again.’’ Lara said. Megan’s lips quivered, tears falling, throat tightening. She wanted to say it. She wanted to say it so badly. But those eyes. Fuck she wanted to see them staring back at her in the morning. She wanted to see how the morning light would catch them, showing Megan their depth, that little sparkle. She needed it.
She needed to make a choice. They were beating around the bush. Lara pleading. Megan trying to stay strong. She needed to make a decision and let the older girl know clearly. Yes or no. Either answer would mean torture. The toxicity of their relationship, the eventual heart-break it would lead to, or the letting go of her loved one, and the heart-break that accompanied that. Whatever she’d choose, it was going to hurt. But Megan knew, she would rather hurt with the girl than without her. If she was ought to hurt anyways, then better together than alone. She still wanted her too much. She still loved her too much. She wasn’t ready to let her go yet. Maybe next time she would be. But she wasn’t right now.
‘’Don’t. Don’t leave, please. Be here when I wake up.’’ Megan whispered, eyes locked onto the older’s, her breath warm against the older’s lips as the words left her mouth. And then she said it. The words her head was screaming at her not to say, but that her heart allowed to leave her lips anyways.
‘’Be here when I wake up every morning.’’ she said. Lara couldn’t contain her smile at those words. Those were the words she had been dying to hear all night.
‘’But on one condition.’’ Megan then said.
‘’Look, it’s very obvious that we can’t be apart from each other and that we still love and want each other very much. Neither of us is ready to give this up yet. But I meant it when I said I was done. I am done with the endless cycle of getting back together only to fight and break up again. That needs to end. So let’s not fight this time. Let’s talk. Let’s communicate if there is an issue. Let’s be good again, like we once were. I know we can.’’ the younger girl explained. She couldn’t take another heart-break, but she also couldn’t be apart from the older girl, and so maybe the solution wasn’t to somehow push herself to let her go and move on, but to somehow make things work with her instead.
‘’I promise. I’ll be better. For us. I can’t lose you. Not again.’’ the older girl replied. And she meant it. Megan was the one for her. She knew it. And she wasn’t going to let her be the one that got away. She knew that this was their final chance, and she wasn’t going to waste it.
‘’I promise as well.’’ Megan whispered against her lips, before she closed the distance between them.
And there they went again. Another shot. Maybe things would actually work out this time. Maybe they wouldn’t and this would just end the way it always did. They didn’t know. But right now, they didn’t care. They were just happy to have each other again. Despite both of their heads telling them that this was a mistake, the heart always seemed to win, even when it trapped them into an endless loop of the most torturous love. Most lovers held hands, letting go when they were done with each other, but Megan and Lara, they seemed to be cuffed together, unable to be apart even if they wanted to. Maybe they really were soul tied. Maybe they were, despite their chaos, meant to be.
Their lips were moving softly against one another, when Megan’s hands went to Lara’s thighs, before she picked her up and laid her down on her bed, crawling on top of her, her body in between the girl’s legs, their kiss never breaking.
Megan’s hands slipped underneath the oversized shirt Lara had borrowed from her, sliding the piece of fabric up a little. Lara felt goosebumps spread, despite the amount of times her hands had been on her body already. She let out a small moan into the younger girl’s mouth when her hand grazed her tits, thumb caressing her already hardening nipples.
They pulled away from the kiss shortly, for Megan to take both Lara’s and her own shirt off, tossing them somewhere to the side.
For a second, Megan just admired the girl beneath her. No matter how many times she had seen the girl naked, she never failed to take her breath away.
Megan first kissed her lips, before her lips travelled to her jaw, down to her neck, her collarbones, until her lips wrapped around one of her hardened buds. Lara’s back arched off of the bed slightly at the feeling, hand tangling into Megan’s hair. Fuck she had missed this. She had missed having the girl all over her like this. She had missed her touch. Her scent. Her voice. Her.
Despite their years together, their intimacy had never gotten less exhilarating. Maybe it had even gotten more exhilarating over the years. Falling deeper and deeper within each other each day they’d spent together, even now. Even throughout the mess. Every time Lara gave herself to Megan, the girl would keep a little piece of her. Until she had all of her.
Megan’s lips travelled down lower, peppering soft kisses along her abdomen as her fingers hooked onto the waistband of her borrowed sweatpants, sliding them down slowly, taking them off.
She first started kissing her calves, softly. Then, slowly, her kisses trailed up to her thighs. Small gasps left her lips every time the younger girl placed a kiss on her inner thigh.
Eventually Megan reached her core, leaving a small kiss on her panty clad centre. Lara was desperate and whimpering by now. Her panties soaked. Megan loved to tease, but tonight, she’d just give it to her, not wanting to hold back herself either.
She slid the soaked piece of fabric down her legs, tossing it to the side, before she connected her lips to the girl’s clit, kissing it, before letting her lips wrap around it.
Lara moaned as the younger’s tongue worked her magic, sliding through her folds, swirling around her clit, occasionally entering her.
‘’Fuck, Mei.’’ she breathed out, her hands tangling in the younger’s hair to steady herself, and to push the younger girl into her further as her hips grinded against her face. Her legs wrapped around the younger’s shoulders to keep her in place.
She lost it when Megan entered her with two fingers, pumping into her. Her fingers were long, and they reached just the right spots, curling at every thrust. Her orgasm was approaching fast now, and when Megan sucked on her clit, she let go with a rather loud moan. Juices flowed out of her as she came, dripping on Megan’s tongue, and she made sure to devour every last drop.
Once Lara had caught her breath a little again, Megan moved up to face her again, kissing her lips. Lara could taste herself on the girl’s tongue. It was sweet. Their tongues swirled together in a dance they knew all too well.
Then Lara flipped them over, straddling the younger girl, their lips never leaving each other.
When Lara broke the kiss, it was to connect her lips to the girl’s neck instead. Her kisses were hungry, occasionally sucking and biting down on the skin to leave a mark, which elicited a little moan from Megan every time. Where Megan’s touch was soft and gentle, slow, patient, Lara’s was always a little hungrier, a little more desperate, needy, like they were running out of time.
She let her lips travel all the way down the younger girl’s body, until they reached the waistband of her sweats. Lara pulled them down, along with her now also soaked panties.
She then motioned for the girl to sit up a little and spread her legs. Her hands moved to the girl’s shoulders, as she sat herself down on the girl, one leg over Megan’s while the other went under hers, their aching cores pressing together.
She rolled her hips forward, her core grinding onto Megan’s, and they both let out a moan at the feeling. Megan’s hands held the older’s waist tightly, guiding her hips back and forth, while Lara’s were on her shoulders, keeping herself steady as she ground down on the girl.
Soft gasps and quiet moans filled the room as they moved together. They felt connected. One. Like their bodies had melted together the way their souls had. They were both completely naked, in more ways than one, yet they were unashamed, untempted to hide or cover up.
When Lara felt herself getting close, she buried her face in the crook of Megan’s neck, and Megan knew exactly what that meant.
Her movements sped up, and got messier, while Megan kept guiding her hips with her hands.
‘’Let go for me, my love.’’ Megan whispered into her ear, feeling herself getting close as well now. Lara let out a muffled moan at her words.
‘’Together.’’ Megan then said, and that’s when it happened. Lara’s hips stuttered as her grip around the younger’s shoulders tightened, nails digging into her skin. Lara’s climax was what drove Megan over the edge as well, now also releasing.
They slowly rode out their high as they caught their breaths again, their juices mixing together between them.
Their lips found each other again in a slow and steady kiss filled with the love they held for each other.
‘’I love you, Mei Mei.’’ Lara whispered once they had pulled away from their kiss again, tucking a strand of hair behind the girl’s ear.
‘’I love you too, Lala.’’ Megan smiled. Despite the mess, she felt at peace. She had her back. And that was all that mattered to her right now. That was all she wanted. To just hold her, and never let her go.
‘’Now let me run a shower for you, like old times.’’ the younger then said. Lara smiled, remembering how Megan always ran a warm shower for her after sex, making sure to take good care of her after as well.
‘’Please.’’ Lara nodded.
Like old times. That was their plan. To go back to the way things were when they were still good.
And they would.

Note
bro I’ve been trying to find a writer to write member x member fics on here but no one does so it’s great to see someone who does!
