Had a story idea where Severus defected long before the prophecy and Peter regretted being a turncoat. At that point Peter hasn't leaked anything important to the DE, but people desperate to join the DE or be favored continued to pressure and intimidate him. Cue unlikely duo when Sev saves Wormy's ass. Sev has no qualms with dying, but wills himself to live long enough to see to the end of the (first, and he'll make sure it will be the only) wizarding war. Thankfully, Peter's there to make sure he eats something.
