When a bank robbery goes wrong Anne Heller flees with her wounded friend Jessup back to the secluded cabin she lived in as a child. Jessup succumbs to his wounds but the night after she buries him, Anne hears him knocking at the door. From here the story becomes one of monsters, body horror, shoot outs, and cults. I greatly enjoyed this book and became very attached to all the main characters. Bonus points for having a lesbian subplot and a cat that lives through the whole book despite the horrors!

A trip to the grocery store for snacks starts the end of Phil's life as he knows it. After a run in with a screaming child and what appears to be his very unwell mother ending in Phil witnessing her death, Phil goes home shaken only to find that the child now lives in his home. Everyone he talks to seems sure that the child has always been his and assume he is just suffering from shock due to watching someone die. The child is most definitely not human, and Phil becomes a prisoner in his own home unable to eat anything besides sour candy.
This book was such a good read. It's short but the story is so well written I'll definitely read it again!

It's bitter cold this morning,
but I saw an easter bluebird
and a gray squirrel.
My nannyberry bushes,
toothy with coming leaves,
have lost their winter-smooth silhouettes.
I can feel the world moving on.
Just beneath the soil's surface
the dandelions are losing patience
with the dark.

This book is kind of a wild ride. It follows three different characters one at a time as they experience the end of humanity. It starts with another pandemic and ends with a world overrun by monsters and one unwilling mother of monsters. It is a really good read filled with plenty of body horror!
CW: gore, graphic sexual content

I recently remembered this book that I read back in high school and absolutely loved. If you like dinosaurs I'd 100% recommend this book. It follows Raptor Red, a Utahraptor, through her life and the obstacles she faces. It's a very heartwarming take on dinosaur life and social interactions. Fantastic book overall!

This is my new favorite book series! I love Murderbot! These books follow a security construct bot that has hacked the Governor Module that was previously controlling it. All the characters are amazing, the narration is funny, and the story is full of queer representation and plenty of sci-fi action. Also the audiobook is narrated by Kevin R. Free (yes, from WTNV) and he does great voices.

A really interesting take on an apocalypse story. There are no monsters, no zombies, no aliens. It is all in your head. The monsters you killed were normal people.
This story is written from the perspective of a man who was infected with a disease that causes some people to see others as monsters and has since been cured. He talks about his experiences and how he helped a cured woman who wanted to be infected again.

This book has a very interesting writing style, it is written in the second person making you the main character. The storyline is incredibly intriguing, as it progresses you learn more about the narrator as they switch from telling you what is happening in the present to you and what they remember from their past. Super cool book, definitely recommend!

Another great book by T. Kingfisher! Just like the last book I read this in one sitting, once you get started it's hard to stop. The writing is so interesting and I love the horror concepts involved. This is a sequel to What Moves The Dead, it follows the main character, Alex Easton, as they visit their family's old hunting cabin.

This was a great book to read in the fall! Kind of spooky, lots of mystery and tension. It follows the main character, Hal, as she pretends to be the granddaughter of the recently passed Mrs. Westaway in the hopes of getting an inheritence but finds that the family is hiding something. I loved trying to figure out what was really happening. Definitely suggest for mystery lovers.

A fun book to read, it's got a lot of action, gore, and monsters (obviously). I didn't realize the Montauk monster was an actual thing until I looked up the cover image for this book. If you like fast paced, action packed stories, this one is a good start. Don't get attached to anyone though (:
