NEW-LOOK SIXERS, SAME OLD RESULTS VS. CELTICS

The Boston Celtics continued their dominance over the 76’ers last night with a 112-109 victory in Philadelphia. As Joel Embiid said at the beginning of the season about the perceived Celtic/Sixer rivalry, “This is not a rivalry. I don’t know our record against them, but it’s pretty bad. They always kick our ass.”

While Tuesday night’s victory was not a butt whoopin’, the Celtics improved to 10-2 against the Sixers since last year, including the postseason. The victory was not only impressive from a standpoint that Boston defeated a conference foe which they are tied for the 4th seed, but the Celtics pulled off the win without their leading scorer Kyrie Irving. Irving was out due to a right knee sprain he suffered against the Clippers Saturday night.  This was quite a statement victory for the Celtics who appeared to be a locker room in disarray with Marcus Morris’ recent criticisms of his teammates play and attitude. Morris also admitted “it hasn’t been fun for a long time” during the same postgame interview.

Gordon Hayward led the way for Boston with a team-high 26 points. The play of the night though was Jason Tatum’s quick spin move off Joel Embiid into an emphatic dunk over a defending Ben Simmons. In any case, more fireworks occurred after the game.  Joel Embiid obviously took umbrage with the performance of the refs and blurted "The referees f---ing suck," in the post game presser. He then promptly left the podium.
