Pro Tip with ao3 being down
I just thought of this since a post or so below mentioned they were going to study. If you have ever read a fanfic and went i want to hear this be read but there is no podfic or you just don't like podfics I have news for you.
Download the fic you want to be read out loud as a PDF and the app ReadEra you can for free listen to work. Now it is going to be a Google translate like voice and you can only speed it up to certain number for free but i use it quiet often. You can also use it as a PDF reader without the voice and start anywhere you like. Here is the app from the app storeI just thought of this since a post or so below mentioned they were going to study. Fake Ao3 App
Originally posted under my main blog: FlowGeeksOut in the community 'Crying ao3 down'
Greetings everyone reading this it has recently come to my attention that there is an app claiming to be affiliated with ao3 along with OTW that is not ans has privacy safety concerns.
For context earlier today ao3 was having issues and the Ao3 News Tumblr blog made a post about it. I being in the Cyring Ao3 Down community went to reblog it there and link people who were having issues to the post in hopes for them to understand what was happening if they were not already aware. That was when I came across the following post from @elijah-j
Tumblr media
Obviously the edit was not there before. Anyways I saw this post and became confused and concerned.
In case you were not aware ao3 is part of the nonprofit organization OTW. This is very important for serval reasons. One of most being legal protection for both ao3 and the fan content creators that host their content on ao3. Since ao3 does not run ads and are part of a non profit organization they therefore do not make any money off of the fan works hosted there. This therefore gives a lot of protection to ao3 and the fan creators against civil litigation from the copy right holders of the Fandom you wrote for. Since the biggest argument in those cases is about profits and if ao3 was running ads and gaining profit from fan creators hosting the fan content there and or paying the fan creators to do so it is harder for a court case to be nessary and or winnable.
As a fan creators for has over 100 works hosted on ao3 I feel very safe being able to express my fanworks with all this protection. So imagine my concern when I saw the post shown above. I then asked the poster @elijah-j for clarification see the comments below
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As seen in the last screenshot as soon as I was made aware that it was "in the app only" my brain immediately jumped to this being a scam since and let me say this load and clear THERE IS AND HAS NEVER BEEN AN APP FOR A03
I then explained this to @elijah-j as seen in the screenshot below
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep that last screenshot says there was NOTHING IN THE PRIVACY POLICY
This horrible because in a way they have the right to do whatever the hell they want with any personal data they have collected on you.
I proceed to let @elijah-j that i think they should report said app to the play store and ao3 because this could cause many problems for a lot of people. @elijah-j agreed with me and did so.
So if you are using an app that is using ao3 name you should report it to the app store and ao3 along with deleting your account on the app if possible then the app.
If you used a similar password to any other website you should change the password.
I will find the link again of where to report it to ao3 along with more information about ao3 and the law if you are interested about the importance of ao3 not having ads.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to comment them and I will try my best to help you find an answer and or solution or way forward.
And thank you for @elijah-j for letting me post this!
Stay safe

How To Deal With Ao3
I posted this originally on the community "Crying ao3 is down" under my main blog flowgeeksout and I thought that I should post it here so it can reach more people.
Thought I would make this post about the new system ao3 is using because the old one was not working as intended.
Because of the system they are using now whenever the page reloads which counts on clicking and fic and going to another chapter and whenever you filter through tags it counts as a page reload therefore with the new system if you do what it considers to many it will shut it down until they find a new soulution. One thing you can do to minimize this happening again is by waiting a couple minutes before you go to a new page.
This is also the reason why these past couple of weeks ao3 has been going down a lot. Hope this helps.
Edit 01/25/2025 everything should be back to normal so this post is now useless

I posted this originally on the comminuted crying ao3 is down under flowgeeksout and it thought it would be a good idea to post here.
Just thought I would make this post since people like the person below me have trouble with ao3 loading but it is not down. Here are some ways to try to fix the problem.
1. Delete your search history on the browser. Sometimes it is just being dramatic.
2. If that does not work check to see if you have any other apps open in the background and close them
3. If this also does not work then try shutting all the tabs on the browser that you are using
4. Check on different tab and see if your browser is working on the other website if not then it could be an internet/wifi/data problem.
5. If it is a internet/wifi/data problem first if you have your wifi on try turning it off to be sure your phone is not being dramatic. Try the verse if you are using data.
6. If all of the above fails try using a different browser.
7 A. If that fails. Try by A. Making sure everything is off meaning apps and websites and powering off the device then power it back on
7 B. Make sure your device is on the latest update version
8. If all fails then sorry it might be time to look for a new device to read your fic on whether switching to another device you own and check if it works there if it does then it is the original devices issue and you may in fact need a new one.
I hope this is helpful!

Slay people need this!!!
by popular request: how to write an email
a disclaimer that this is the specific kind of email you send when people are absolutely smiting you and you know a phone call or an in person meeting is not possible/will not help. like youre 12 emails deep in an email chain and going in circles. youve been re routed to 13 offices 4 separate times. those kind of emails.
credentials: ive taken something like 13 semesters of college (dont ask) and every single semester have had to fight at least 3 offices for varying reasons in order to take classes. (including one time where i was shorted 5k in financial aid. i ended up getting 200 more dollars than i needed in the end) also my dad taught me everything he knows about emails (hes a tradesman turned corporate man and most of his job consists of telling people (nicely) that what theyre doing sucks and makes absolutely no sense)
Step 1: figure out who the email needs to go go
there is nothing wrong with emailing 11 million people if it gets the job done. if someone isnt helping you and you Know that they Should Be feel free to start to copy their boss on the email. copy your boss on an email. (or advisor or whoever). even if you think the person might only be like Vaguely helpful, sometimes people know people.
also theres nothing wrong with emailing the same email to several departments. sometimes you have to make a lot of noise to get something done (again. as like a last resort. dont email 11 million people right out of the gate)
Step 2: remember to be Polite
a very tempting step to ignore especially when you are 13 thousand emails deep in problems. but! if you are not nice to them! they will probably continue to smite you in the future! you want to make friends! not foes! so no matter how much people are smiting you, try to resist the urge to be an utter dipshit because it will not get the job done. vent to a friend or a coworker and send your polite and nice email
Step 3: articulate the problem Clearly.
a very important step. especially if you are adding more people to your email chain. dont assume they know your exact problem. they probably are dealing with other problems. articulate Clearly what is happening, no matter how long the email may be. its far better to get a long and detailed email rather than a non helpful short one. that will only prolong the process of how long it takes the problem to get solved.
Step 4: cite your reciepts.
wildly important. send your screenshots your attachments your whatever the fucking fuck youve got. its always good to have a paper trail. this is also where you would state any previously attempts to have the problem Sorted (ie i reached out to x person on x y and z days about x problem and it is still not resolved). you would not believe how many people dont scroll down in an email, especially a forwarded/replied one. so summarize whats Down There in your most recent email
Step 5: use the appropriate lingo
you dont have to be Overly Formal but there are a few good Buzz Sentences that usually get the job done. for example:
As Per My Last Email: a great line. emphasizes that youve already mentioned this. and this is not the first time youre mentioning this point. also emphasizes that the Thing has yet to be solved
See Attached/See Below: under utilized. again. people do not open attachments and they do not scroll down. almost had a friend once fail a class because a professor gas lit them in an email chain saying they didnt receive the final paper when the paper itself was attached earlier in the email chain. be Painfully Literal. it pays off.
Help Me To Understand: this is one of my dad's favorite lines. it really shows that you have no fucking idea what the person youre emailing is getting at and youre offering them the opportunity to spell out their nonsense for you. so that you can then be like. well. clearly This is where the miscommunication lies. its a great line. has saved my ass many times. because it is not accusing it is just offering someone to understand. it does not attack. it just is.
Step 6: give a polite sign off.
something along the lines of "thank you in advance for any help" or "i look forward to hearing from you" does the job. something that sends the message you are not pissed to shit at them even if you are.
Step 7: follow up and follow up often.
polite email response time is 48 business hours/2 business days. if it has been longer than that you have every right to email back and say hi x person just following up on this email, have you had the chance to review it yet? again. keep it polite. you actually want them to help you. and if they still dont respond well then maybe its time to loop in a boss or a supervisor or whoever the hell else. dont be afraid to go above them if you need to. nothing wrong with getting shit done when it needs to get done.
and really, if all that fails, as my dad says, a little office bribe in the form of cookies has never hurt anyone :)
so an email. should be formatted something like this:
Greetings/Good Morning (Afternoon) (Person)
I hope this email finds you well (or something similar for a greeting). I am reaching out regarding X incident/problem/whatever the fuck it is. I have previously reached out to X person on X dates and (summary of whatever they did or didnt do). See below/attached emails/pdf/screenshot/document (if applicable)
(explanation of the problem in as simple and detailed terms as possible. have someone re read it to make sure that it cannot be misconstrued)
(explanation of what you are looking for as a solution)
Please help me to understand why this (solution) has not been able to be reached. (explain you are on x timeline if the situation is urgent)
Kind regards/Thank you for any help in advance/I look forward to hearing from you etc,
email signature
go forth and conquer your emails. remember, sometimes you have to be a squeaky wheel. and in my million cases of email sending, it has ALWAYS paid off and i have gotten the problems solved. dont be afraid of the emails they can help you.

This was as close as I could get doing it the simple way of just putting in the limted HTML. If you wanted something with more style I would have to create a work skin which means people can turn it on and off. I am fine and happy to do that for you just letting you know your opotions. If you like what I have made but want me to change a few things that is fine to! Anways here is the code: All of the coding tags are in red
Tumblr media
And here is what you get when putting it into Ao3
Tumblr media
Again let me know if you have questions or changes you want to make! I am always here and very happy to help people format their fics to their hearts content!
In Ao3 say you are making a newspaper clipping. Or a fake essay for your character to write. Whatever you need a title for this is how you do it in HTML.
First, make sure you are in HTML in the text box and you will need to put the title that you want (or you really just want some big text. I won't judge) and put a < h1> without the space at the beginning of it. So for example
< h1> Hola
Again without the space. Then at the end of the text, you will put < /h1> again without the space. example
< h1> Hola < /h1>
Now say you think this is too big for your liking. Or you need a subheading for whatever reason. Well, you can use the same basic format: <h_> and </h_> all the way up to six.
Now you may be thinking "Wait I want it to be smaller. Why would I go bigger in number? Won't it be bigger?" No, the bigger the number in this case would be smaller the text. So a little bit of a guide if you are still confused or you just want it. Without the space.
< h1> </h1> Heading
< h2> </h2> Sub Heading
< h3> </h3> Sub Sub Heading
< h4></h4> Sub Sub Sub Heading
< h5></h5> Sub Sub Sub Sub Heading
< h6></h6> Sub Sub Sub Sub Sub Heading
You can only go up to (down to?) 6 with the heading stuff.
I hope this helped!!

Here is one! Below is the coding that you will write out for the format the tags are in the red which are the parts you cant change the black text you can change.
Tumblr media
And I already tried it out in ao3 which is below.
Tumblr media
I hope that you like it! It is okay if you dont I am here if you need anymore help!

Thank for the question! Depending on what you want do it will differ. So if you could descirbe it that would be great but for now I can make a couple of options to help show what you can do!

How To Add Links In Ao3 (Author's Note Area)
Say you're trying to link some social media account or another fic in your author's note or just anything you want to link. Fear not I will show you the way.
So first you are going to put the a tag like this:
<a
Now you may have noticed that unlike other tags there is no end > you don't put that until later.
Now after you have the <a tag above add this after a space after the <a
href="insert link">
You see you add the > after the link that HAS TO BE in the " ".
Now after this > put what you want your link to be called. Which is the thing people will see when they click on it.
For example, I put in my link to my Ao3 page on my side in HTML it will look like this (no double space after the <a to href just doing that so it does not look like literal code and get processed as that so I can show you)
<a href=" https://archiveofourown.org/users/FlowWrites/profile">My Ao3</a>
It would be seen as this (on Ao3)
My Ao3
and it would link to it. You can just call it Link if you don't have a name you would prefer to call it.
After that as shown above you would then add the </a>
That is how you make a link

How To Put Headings (Larger Text) In Tumblr's HTML Sections
Say you are making a page for your Tumblr blog and you don't have many options for creating. At the least, the buttons let one bold and italicize, and that is it. Or would you like the biggest heading in your post? Or maybe you want a smaller one but still gleam that it is a heading? Here is how you are able to do that.
First, for the page you want to create, you will want to hit the HTML button on the options when adding a page.
And if you want to biggest heading that you can get your hands on for a Tumblr post get the settings button which is a cog that is to the right of your username once you are in the post thing. Then scroll all the way down to the bottom where it says "Text Editor" then on the drop-down menu pick HTML.
Now that you have your process all ready to go and all you need to know is how one makes the heading bigger. Well, you have a good couple of options. 6 in fact.
The basic format of the coding tags is this:
<h1-6> Your curing the world text </h1-6>
Now that is not an actual tag (at least that I know of but even if it is not what you are going to need to do) but what the numbers are.
The biggest one is the < h1> (without the space) and the smallest < h6> (Again without the space) Now this is probably fucking with your brain cause your whole life you have been told that the higher the number the bigger the thing is. Not here baby.
Anyways try them out and find out which one looks best for whatever your fucking amazing creation is.
Hope this helped!

Break In Text/Line Break
In the formatting in Ao3 if you just copy and paste the text from a Google doc word doc or wherever you had put your fanfiction then the text will look like one enormous paragraph. This will stop some readers from reading or enjoying it. Or say you want a passage of time but just putting this___________ does not look good to you. Let me show you ways to help!
The break in the text.
Make sure you are on HTML and after the end of your paragraph put < br> without the space.
Example:
Text
< br>
Text
Now if you have seen some of my other posts or know a little HTML then you might be wondering where is the </br>. Well some tags do not have the </ one after it since there is no text to be put in so there will be no end tag (which is </) to distinguish where the code will end since it is just there for formatting purposes with no text.
If you didn't get that then basically there are 2 types of coding tags generally speaking.
*insert text*
The Line Break
Now for the line break like the text break where it is jut <tag name> but the tag name is different. So for the line break, it will look like this:
Text
< hr>
Text
And that will give you a nice line again as always without the space.
I hope this helped!
