Quick Genona fic :) hope u enjoy

Genny awoke from her slumber, and found herself held tightly in place by a pair of strong arms. Those arms belonged to her girlfriend, Winona, who was still snoring away. Genny smiled. Winona had always been such a deep sleeper, much to her own dismay. It was just another thing that made Genny love her so much.

"I must be dreaming." She thought to herself. "I've woken up in the arms of the most beautiful woman in the world." Winona let out a particularly loud snore, as if in response to her train of thought. Genny couldn't help but giggle, and gently planted a kiss on her forehead.

She shifted closer, taking in the sensation of skin again skin. Genny had never felt something so right, so natural. It was as if her very mind, body, and soul were all made for that very moment, as if she was made to love Winona. She wondered if Winona felt the same way, surely she must.

Genny's latest attempts to snuggle in closer had caused Winona to wake up. Groggily, she released her hold.

"Good morning, Nona." Genny greeted, causing her to show a sleepy smile. Winona slowly sat up in bed and stretched, her spine popping like firecrackers.

"Geez, I dunno how you can sleep in this thing, it's way too soft." She remarked, although Genny didn't mind. Winona's seeming resistance for comfort was another part of her she adored.

Winona didn't stay in bed long, soon enough she hopped out of bed and strode to the small kitchenette in Genny's apartment. "Waddya want for breakfast?" She asked. "Eggs on toast?" She didn't wait for a reply, already rummaging through Genny's fridge and cabinets for bread and eggs, all the while Genny watched lovingly from the bed.

The breakfast was fine, the toast a little burnt, but otherwise edible. Genny appreciated the favor, and ate heartily. Although there was little conversation, the mutual enjoyment of the other's company was palpable.

Once they finished eating, the pair strode towards the bed and rummaged through their hastily discarded uniforms. Figuring out which belonged to who was simple enough, but they loathed to get dressed. Every step of getting ready meant one moment they were closer to being separated. They couldn't quite be as affectionate in publish as they wished, especially not at work.

Once both women were fully dressed, they sighed in mutual discontent. They left Genny's apartment, arm in arm, savoring the time they had together before their arrival at work. Although their stations were close by, it wasn't as close as they would wish. Little conversation passed between them during work hours, anyway. Only wayward glances, and shy smiles when their gaze would meet. They got through the day knowing once their shifts were finished, they could be back in each other's arms, just as they were that morning. As they say, parting is the hardest part of being in love.

A bit of a ramble but honestly I really love the new lease on life that things like Whale Weekly and Limbus Company have given Moby Dick.

It's my favorite book of all time. It helped me discover a lot about myself. It's a beautiful story about trauma and Herman Melville's unrequited love. How Nathaniel Hawthorne was his own white whale.

I'm not sure if it was universal, but I was always kind of told that Moby Dick was an awful awful book. An epic sea faring adventure about toxic masculinity or religion or whatever that's constantly interrupted by boring slogs of whale information. Like Ahab and the whale were all that really mattered to the story. Like the whole metaphorical symbolism had nothing to do with Ishmael. A lot of classics get that treatment, but from my experiences Moby Dick got it so much worse.

But with Whale Weekly, I saw a lot more positivity around it. A lot more people were reading it, and enjoying it. Calling Ishmael a blorbo and an autistic king, and really understanding the traumatic narrative that's left out of most summaries. And when Limbus Company released its retelling of Moby Dick, it also focused on Ishmael and her trauma. Touching on how in the book Ishmael, in a sense, also becomes obsessed with the whale, but not in a vengeful way, moreso haunted by it. Which is not something many adaptations include.

Idk I've come to really appreciate these new ways of getting people to read the classics and not just brush them off as old and boring. Especially with Moby Dick, I don't really think any movie or TV adaptation could capture Ishmael's post-pequod struggles as well as the book does (which is also mostly relayed in the 'boring whale chapters' that a lot of people encourage you to skip). Just a neat thought I guess. I'm happy that more people can enjoy one of the books of all time ^°^
