As a child I struggled with learning how to read. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia at an early age, and it showed. I couldn’t achieve the same reading speed as my classmates. This drove me crazy. It frustrated me to the point where I didn’t even want to touch a book anymore. It discouraged me from wanting to learn.
One teacher took an interest in me. She sat me down in her office and took out a book on tape. Before she pressed play, she opened a paper copy of that book up to the first page. She handed it to me and told me to follow along. I struggled at first, but I got it, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed reading again.
Now this is where libraries came into the equation. Books on tape are awesome, but expensive. Other than occasionally splurging on the newest Harry Potter book on tape, I didn’t have the money to get the materials I needed. My teacher directed me to a section in my local library completely filled with books on tape for all ages. From then on I was hooked. I began reading more and more. With every book my speed improved. My local library ended up providing me with the materials I needed to excel.
This past May I graduated from The George Washington University with cum laude status. Without a caring teacher and a local library, I never would have gotten to far. Support you local libraries and please, donate any books on tape you may have lying around. You never know how much they might help a struggling child.

A Young Person’s Guide Voting in the United States
When am I able to vote?
U.S. citizens are able to vote at 18. However, in every state, there is an option for registering to vote before your 18th birthday.
Do I need to register to vote?
YES! In every state except for North Dakota, you must be registered to vote in any election. In fifteen states, however you can register on election day, meaning you do not have to preregister. For the other thirty-five states, however, you must register before the deadline to vote.
Do I need to register every year I vote?
Usually no. In most states, once you are registered, you remain registered to vote in that state until you pass away or move to a different state. If you move states, you must register to vote in that new state.
However, Ohio has recently taken aggressive measures to remove voters from their voter rolls, meaning that if you are registered in Ohio, check to make sure you are still registered!
What’s the deadline for voter registration?
The deadline for registration varies state by state. Find your state’s registration deadline here.
How do I register to vote?
Again, this varies from state-to-state. In 37 states and in Washington D.C., voter registration can be done online. Other states require you to mail in a form or go to a physical location, like a post office or the RMV. Find out how you can register to vote in your state here.
Do I only need to vote every four years?
NO! Presidential elections happen every four years, but congressional elections happen every two years, and those elections are just as important as the presidential elections. Furthermore, local elections happen every year, and, again, those elections are very important, because their outcome will affect you the most directly.
How do I find out more about local political races?
Ballotpedia is a great resource that has pages on every upcoming election and the candidates. You can also look at local media to find out more about political issues at the local level!
What if I won’t be at home at the time of election?
If you won’t be in the state you are registered in at the time of the election, you can vote early or by absentee ballot. Every state has either an early voting or absentee option. Review how the laws work in your state here.
I want to vote but I can’t make it to the polling place!
Carpool vote is a website that connects people driving to the polls on election day with those who needs rides. Furthermore, the Twin Cities, Dallas, Houston, and Tampa, all provide free public transportation on election days.
Will I need my ID when I vote?
It depends on what state you live in! Some states require photo ID’s, some require non-photo ID’s, and some don’t require ID’s at all. Find out what your state requires, here.
Does my vote really matter?
Yes! Although it can sometimes seem like an individual’s vote doesn’t matter, recent cases like that in Virginia where a Democrat and Republican were exactly tied in their race for the state house, show that yes, one vote CAN make a difference!

a few years ago a man came up to me after a show
he had an opinion
lesbians give feedback
men give opinions
so i spoke in this show, i spoke about taking antidepressants medication
and he had an opinion on that
Interestingly enough i also spoken about how unhelpful unsolicited advice is on a mental health plan ,but he mustn’t have heard that bit
He came after me after the show to give me his opinion
he said you shouldn’t take medication because you are an artist, its important that you FEEEL
he said if vincent van gogh had taken medication we wouldn’t have the sunflowers
i never ever thought that my art history degree will ever come in handy
but oh my lord
i told that guy a college size new asshole
i said good opinion mate ,except he did medicated .A LOT
He self medicated a lot , he drank he even nib on his own paint
and you know what else he just dint painted just sunflowers , he painted a few portraits of psychiatrists
not even random ones the ones that treated him and medicated him
and there is a particular portrait of a particular psychiatrist , and he is holding a flower , its not a sunflower its a foxglove.and that foxglove forms parts of a medication van gogh took for epilepsy and a derivative of the foxglove medication is that if you overdose a bit you know you can experience the colour yellow a bit more intensely .SO PERHAPS WE HAVE THE SUNFLOWERS PRECISELY BECAUSE VAN GOGH MEDICATED
WHAT DO YOU HONESTLY FELT? THAT CREATIVITY MEANT SUFFERING? is that the burden of creativity? so just you can enjoy it?
Fuck you man ,if you like sunflowers so much buy a bunch and jerk off into a geranium ———————————————————————————– take vincent
vincent van gogh the way we tell his story…. is no good, its destructive, because we reduced to a tale of rags to riches
he only sold one painting in his life .you know? now look at him.“he is quite dead” YEAH BUT HE IS VERY SUCCESSFUL
Only sold one painting in his lifetime ,and people believe with that story that van gogh was this misunderstood genius .You know he was born ahead of his time. What a load of shit .Nobody is born ahead of their time,it’s impossible.Nobody is born ahead of their time. Maybe premmie babies but they catch up
Artists don’t invent zeitgeists !.They respond to it .HE was not ahead of his time he was a post impressionist painter, painting at the peak of post impressionism
he wasn’t born ahead of his time, he couldn’t network ‘cause he was mental. He was …crazy he had unstable energy .People would cross the street to avoid him That’s why he didn’t sell more than a painting in his lifetime ,He couldn’t network .This whole idea this romanticising of mental illness is ridiculous. It is not a ticket to genius.IT’s a ticket to fucking nowhere . ———————————————————————————– Do you know why we have the sunflowers? It’s not because Vincent van Gogh suffered. It’s because Vincent van Gogh had a brother who loved him. Through all the pain, he had a tether, a connection to the world. And that is the focus of the story we need – connection. Thank you.”
