Before anyone comes for me, while being aspec is more important to my identity/how I articulate my experiences, I am lesbian about it too. Not that I should have to say this, but I am a lesbian who uses the lesbian pride flag Velvette is holding in the merch in one of my pfps.

For starters, you can choose to ignore canon. I generally find this to be in poor taste, but frankly, while we are not swimming in lesbian representation, I think polyamory has even less representation. And at least for this dyke, being non-monogamous is more important to me than being a lesbian. You can always tag your works as “non-lesbian Velvette” or “bisexual Velvette” or however you feel so inclined so people who only want to read her as strictly lesbian can avoid your works where she isn’t.

Secondly, get weird with it. I am not joking. The ace community has been saying for ages that action does not equal attraction. If people can come up with compelling and believable scenarios in which aroace Alastor has sex or is in relationships with people who have a crush on him, put the same work in for lesbian Velvette. I am serious. Frankly, if you only do this for aspec characters, I don’t think you actually understand that action doesn’t equal attraction in aspec people’s case, you just see us as “queer lite” or the “empty” orientation you can project what you actually want onto. Shoutout to @icannotreadcursive for writing gay Angel Dust having sex with Cherri Bomb for fun in a way that makes me, as another friend put it about something else, make me feel “big seenies” as a lesbian who has had sex with men for fun. Action doesn’t equal attraction doesn’t just apply to aros and aces; it applies to monosexuals and monoromantics too because it applies to EVERYBODY.

Personally, I’ve already been writing lesbian aspec Velvette who has sex with Vox for fun because she likes him well enough and this is what partners do, isn’t it? It’s not a bad time, it’s usually a fun enough time, why not? I am, again, an aspec lesbian who has sex with men sometimes. Just get fucking weird with it. No, I am not bisexual; no, I do not experience sexual attraction toward men so rarely that I still call myself lesbian while experiencing sexual attraction to men— though that is one route you can take with lesbian Velvette and poly Vees. I do it because i get off on kink and sex feels good and sometimes I find a man who’s compatible with me when no women are offering.

Make Vox and/or Val transfem. That’s another option.

Make sex within the Vees entirely about power. None of these people have considered whether they’re even attracted to each other. It’s all part of power play, baby, not even just in a kink context but all the time for real 24/7. Do it with just Velvette’s dynamics with Vox and Val or her dynamic with just one of them. Again, get weird with it. I cannot stress this enough.

Lesbian Velvette who queerplatonically loves Vox and/or Val more than any of the flings with women she’s had over the years.

Lesbian Velvette who is actively attracted to women, but doesn’t mind sex with men, because it can still feel good. (I’ve basically already said this, but I need to make it very clear.)

Lesbian Velvette who still identifies as lesbian despite being attracted to Vox and/or Val because it’s so rare for her, just like I still called myself aro after I started dating my now ex and one singular exception thus far to being aromantic. It made him so anxious, like, “you’re still into me, right?” And I can totally see that happening with Vox. Val is probably like “I’m just that good 😉”

Lesbian Velvette who is more into femininity than womanhood. (See Jay’s sapphic Vaggie.) Val presents femme enough for her to be down at baseline. If Vox presents more femme too, the same applies.

I was thinking more Velvette who is like… okay with doing that to make her partners happy. Doesn’t have a strong enough sense of self to decide that would be a fucked up thing to do. Which, to be clear, I still find absolutely horrifying as a concept, but in a way that I think could be fun to shake around in my teeth. Sort of like that sequel to a Midsummer Night’s Dream that my one romantic ex told me about that I never got around to finding, you know? Velvette who thinks dating them or dating one of them is good for their brand and she doses herself with love potion to do it. Polyamory might not be 100% accurate, dating might not be 100% accurate, but she doesn’t know what else to call it to convey emotional intensity. Velvette who knows Vox and/or Val is romantically into her and she likes doing romance-coded stuff with them because it’s fun and it makes them happy even though she’s not experiencing romantic attraction. She of course still posts to Sinstagram/Voxtagram because OF COURSE SHE DOES, and also, the chatter about poly Vees is good for business.

Kinsey scale 6.5/6 Velvette who still identifies as lesbian. (Yes, I basically already said this before, but it doesn’t have to be SO rare that Vox and/or Val are her ONLY exceptions, you know?)

Yes, I am an aro lesbian and projecting.)

Lesbian Velvette who says “fuck you, I do what I want” when asked how she can still be lesbian and be poly with the other Vees, because she IS a lesbian and she IS poly with the other Vees.

Just. There are options here and all of them are “get squiggly with it” and that RULES and I was already a queerplatonic aspec lesbian Velvette poly Vees person before this and I personally feel so empowered in my shrimp colors by canon lesbian Velvette. I invite you to join me here instead of feeling conflicted between lesbian Velvette and poly Vees.

one thing I noticed in comic book fandom is that MOSTLY when you ask a Marvel fan who their favorite DC character is, they mostly give you a known one (like the Joker, Batman or Flash sometimes) but when you ask a DC fan who their favorite is, they'll either say spiderman, or a mutant that had 3 appearances in a comic book that was sold in 5 countries for a limited time and got killed off in the 2nd issue. I find it funny.
