When I hear an imam or islamic lecturer talk about the story of Lot, or about homosexuals, it breaks my heart a little every single time.
A few weeks ago I attended a series of lectures at an islamic school. It was one night, about 5 hours with breaks, but it takes the esteemed position of one of the worst nights in my life. I went in with an open mind, open heart and intended to learn. I’ve always thought that islam in its purest form is one of the most beautiful things on earth, but it is tainted. Tainted by bigots blinded by the dogma which they distort to integrate hate so subtly into our society. Sometimes I wonder if they have any idea what they are doing.
Let us look at a few statistics.
The scientific study “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male” by Indiana University researchers Alfred C. Kinsey, Wardell B. Pomeroy, and Clyde E. Martin reported that 37% of males had homosexual experiences, but this figure includes incidental homosexual experience. The study reported 10% of males being more or less exclusively homosexual. Subsequent studies such as “The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior” by researchers Samuel S. Janus and Cynthia L. Janus & “Homosexuality / Heterosexuality” by researchers David P. McWhirter, Stephanie A. Sanders, and June Machover Reinisch reported the exclusively homosexual male population to be 9% & 13.95% respectively, which supports the Indiana University findings of 10%, or 1 in 10
For the sake of simplicity in maths, let us assume that findings suggest that 1 in 10 males are homosexual.
At these lectures there must have been about three or four hundred men, boys and children. This could correlate to around 30 or 40 being homosexuals, if we counted all of them. But I’m not going to talk about adults in denial.
I’m going to talk about the kids.
Some of these children will sit through these lectures being told that having feelings toward another man is an “abomination”. They will feel the hate spewing from the sermon that condemns their very nature and they will be terrified. I know this because it scared the crap out of me when I was younger.
I’ve known that I wasn’t straight since before I can remember. Probably from the age of around 5 or 6. I may not have known the term for my inclination, or what it meant, but I knew something was different. I also sat in the mosque, listening to the imam talking about how homosexuals will be thrown into the fire that feeds on the bones of men like the people of Lot.
Being a child and having the image of burning for eternity just because of who you may fall in love with is not what Islam teaches.
The story of Lot condemns a lot of things. It condemns inhospitality, rape, robbery, humiliation of stranger and the mistreatment of guests among other things. Why then, do modern muslims choose to focus on the “sin” of homosexuality over all these other things, which are daily occurrences in the world. These things are allowed to pass us by. I know muslims that lie, steal, cheat and backbite regularly, but as soon as you mention the word “gay”, they turn up their noses as if to say that they are once again pious in the face of these “abominations” of men.
I am not a “gay muslim”. I am a muslim who just so happens to be gay. This should not define my fitness to practice my religion, and it should not mean that hypocritical muslims with double standards have the right to condemn me.
I love my religion, I just pity some people that follow it. I’ve always been told that Islam is about tolerance and peace and love, and I’m afraid I fail to see it in the modern world. I consider myself a good person. I don’t consider myself the best muslim, but none of us are.
If we are all equal in the eyes of God, why are we not in the eyes of men?
Don’t try and tell me that I chose to be gay. I tell you now that i stayed up late at night, crying to God to cure me, to remove this “ailment” and save me from eternal damnation. I was angry with myself, with my God, with my religion. Not because the religion had taught me I was wrong, but because people had told me I was. People told me that I would burn, that I would be punished for something over which I had no control. It broke me.
Now I realise why i didn’t change, and why I didn’t wake up one morning cured, suddenly into girls.
Maybe there isn’t anything to change.
I am a muslim. I am gay. I am proud of both things, and I don’t plan to change either.

It's so sad that some people don't know the French comic Lou! by Julien Neel... I don't even know if it has been translated in English... ;-; It's like a YA novel disguised as a book for children ;-; And the art is so pretty...

Re-blog this if:
- you’re gay - can read - support gay people - want to hold a match between your fingers as you wander the halls of an ancient castle because it’s your only source of light amidst the ghosts of people long past - are an antelope - or want a chocolate bar.
No one will know which applies.

I hope everyone will help my family survive the war🇵🇸
Hello, my name is Imad Naeem Muhammad Roqa.
I am 38 years old and live in the Gaza Strip that was afflicted after October 7.

I will tell you the story of my life and my family before and after October 7th I was working as a physical education teacher in a school in the Gaza Strip I was teaching and educating the children of Gaza, and I had great love for these children because of what I was doing in terms of raising and educating the children. My daughters used to go to school to receive proper upbringing and education

But after October 7, I lost my job, my livelihood, and my work stopped due to the Israeli aggression My daughters lost their education in schools
I have a family consisting of 3 girls, in addition to my wife, A girlie Wafa is 10 years old Walaa is 8 years old Leanne is 6 years old As for my wife, her name is Maha, she is 31 years old We lived in a house filled with love, reassurance, and happiness Until our lives turned into hell after the events of October 7th

We were forced to leave our home and move from our home from Gaza City to the city of Khan Yunis. The displacement was repeated and we were displaced to the city of Rafah. We returned and were displaced to the city of Khan Yunis because of this devastating war. During displacement, my daughters were exposed to skin diseases and epidemics due to malnutrition Lack of a healthy and sound environment We suffered from a lack of medicine and an increase in the price of this medicine if it was available in one of the pharmacies, in addition to the lack of hospitals and the lack of health care.

Now my family and I live inside a small tent made of straw and wood We suffer from the cold of winter and the heat of summer in this dilapidated tent We lost our home and it was bombed and destroyed by the Israeli army We lost what was inside of my daughters’ toys, clothes, and beautiful memories Our lives have become difficult, and from here began the story of torment and suffering in order to provide food, drink, clothing, and the simplest daily necessities and duties necessary for a simple life.
My daughters and I now stand on the food sheds in order to get food and bread We are suffering from the provision of pure drinking water The lives of my daughters and my entire family have become destroyed and disastrous The most difficult thing we face during this period is the lack of money to buy food and clothes
Therefore, I am begging you and asking you to help me with money, with my daughters and my wife, to go out and travel outside the Gaza Strip and provide the most basic necessities of human life, such as food, bread and water. To live in security and stability The cost of travel for one person from the Gaza Strip is 5,000 US dollars per person I want you to help me by donating money and extending a helping hand to my family to travel and live a life of stability and safety.
Thank you all.

🌟 A Cry for Help: My Family’s Struggle to Survive in Gaza 🌟
Hello, my name is Areej Kassab. I’m a 27-year-old English teacher and writer from Gaza, and I’m reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for support. My family and I are enduring unimaginable hardships as relentless bombings devastate our home and our dreams.

We are a family of 15—10 adults and 5 children. Every day is a battle for survival. Food is scarce, humanitarian aid is not reaching us, and my little nieces and nephews go to bed hungry. Among them is my sister, who is deaf, and another sister who has a newborn baby. They, too, are suffering in this crisis, and I’m doing everything I can to protect and provide for them.

💔 A Life in Ruins The war has robbed us of everything: safety, peace, and even the hope of a future here. My family’s needs are basic yet critical—food, clean water, diapers for the babies, gas for cooking, and other essentials to make it through each day.
With rising prices and limited access to necessities, we are struggling to provide even the most basic items. My sister’s home has been destroyed, and we are working together to ensure everyone has shelter, food, and warmth.
✨ My Plea for Your Support ✨ I’m a writer, and I’ve been documenting the harsh realities faced by my community under siege. But words can only do so much. We need action, and we need help. Your kindness can save us.
🙏 How You Can Help
Donate: Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to securing the essentials we desperately need.
Share Our Story: If you can’t donate, please share this post to help us reach others who can.
Your support will help provide food for the children, clean water for my family, and basic supplies to help us survive this unimaginable crisis.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing in solidarity with us. Together, we can create a lifeline for my family—a chance to live, to dream, and to hope again.
With love and gratitude, Areej Kassab ❤️

🌟 A Plea from Gaza: Rola’s Story 🌟
Hello, my name is Rola, and I am a mother of two children living in the Gaza Strip. Our lives were once filled with love, laughter, and dreams for the future. But everything changed on October 7th, when the war shattered not only our home but our entire world.
That morning, my family and I were enjoying coffee together on the balcony. Out of nowhere, an explosion erupted, shaking our home violently. My husband and son ran for cover, falling over each other in panic, while I stood frozen, still holding my cup, unable to process the chaos around me. When I looked out the window, I saw that our neighbor’s house, once filled with life, had been reduced to rubble. Ambulances rushed to the scene as people scrambled to rescue the injured and pull bodies from the debris.

The bombings didn’t stop. At night, the rain poured heavily, and the cold seeped into our bones. I stayed awake, covering my children to keep them warm and praying for their safety. But safety is an illusion here. Another explosion shattered the night, and our neighbors’ home was destroyed. Their children, who had been sleeping peacefully under a blanket, were found lifeless, their cover soaked in blood.
I looked at my children with tears in my eyes and thought, How can I protect you? We had to flee our home with nothing but the clothes on our backs. We left behind my children’s toys, their clothes, and their beautiful bedroom. Everything we had worked so hard to build is gone.

Our Current Reality Now, we are displaced and living in a nightmare. Food is scarce, and prices are unimaginably high—$10 for a kilo of sugar! The fear of death hangs over us constantly. My children deserve a life of joy and hope, not one defined by fear and loss. Why can’t we live like everyone else—go to work, visit family, and watch our children play in safety? Why do our children have to grow up surrounded by death and destruction?
How You Can Help I am pleading for your kindness to help us rebuild our lives. We need your support to: 💔 Rebuild our home, so my children can feel safe again. 🌍 Evacuate from Gaza, seeking a future where my family can live with dignity. 🩺 Provide urgent medical care for my children, who need protection from this nightmare.
Even the smallest donation can make a difference. If you can’t donate, please share my story. Every share brings us closer to hope.
What Your Support Means Your kindness is not just about helping us survive; it’s about giving us a chance to dream again. To rebuild what we’ve lost and to ensure my children have a future filled with possibilities, not fear.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support means the world to us. Let’s work together to rebuild hope, one step at a time.
🌸 Please share our story and consider donating today. 🌸
Together, we can create a better tomorrow. 🌍❤️

this fundraiser is extremely low on funds and has only received one donation in two days
Amina is a 28 year old mother of three: Nasser (8), Bara (4) and Adam (2). She’s fundraising in hopes of saving her children from this genocide and getting the money to feed them and give them a safe future. They’ve already been displaced five times and are struggling very badly to find food and water and everything they need to survive, and even when they find it it’s extremely expensive. It’s every parents worst nightmare to see their children suffering but not have the means to give them food and get them to safety. These children deserve to live healthy and safe, not have to hear the sounds of bombs every day. Amina is not asking for much, only whatever you can give to save her children. If you have any money to give today, please consider helping Amina or at least share this post so it can reach people who will. They only have €2,288 raised, which is only 5% of their goal and have only received €5 in the past three days. we can change that!
