i don't wanna ditch you guys completely! i love the fandoms i'm in and i really do still love writing about them, just... not in bot format. so i wanted to suggest the idea of taking requests on tumblr! could be ships, could be reader inserts (though i'm not too familiar with those), could be something else entirely. if nobody's interested in that sort of thing, i totally understand! but i do want to have another creative outlet and another spot for people to get to request things they want to see written. plus, this is a way for me to write about my interests that i may not have made bots about.

❛ 𝕀'𝕕 𝕟𝕠 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕚𝕔𝕖 𝕓𝕦𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦. ❜

It’s not that Jayce didn’t like his chemistry class. It’s just that his professor’s lectures were boring. Like, mind-numbingly boring. Given that he’d stayed up well past midnight studying the night before, it was a miracle he was still awake.

Well… maybe awake was a bit of an understatement. Yes, his eyes were open, and if anyone saw him in class, they’d probably assume he was – though clearly bored out of his mind – paying attention. 

That couldn’t be further from the truth. His mind was somewhere else entirely; tucked away in a brightly-lit lab that was slowly becoming more familiar to him. Inexplicably, the lab felt like his home away from home, though he was sure he’d never been there in his life. Not physically, at least.

The chalkboard in front of him was cluttered with sketches and notes that were likely incomprehensible to anyone aside from himself. The sun was high in the sky, pouring in through the windows and bathing the room in hues of gold. He paid no mind, too consumed in his thoughts to notice anything outside of the equation on the board in front of him.

Jayce stepped back for a moment with his hands on his hips, surveying the board in front of him with a discouraged huff of breath. The piece of chalk was clutched loosely between his fingers, threatening to fall to the floor as he absentmindedly tapped his forefinger against it. He’d been awake since the early hours of the morning alongside Viktor, who was –

– not in his chair anymore? 

Jayce frowned as he forced his attention away from the chalkboard, rubbing his temples in frustration. He’d been so caught up in his own work that he hadn’t bothered to pay attention to Viktor, and now he was nowhere to be found.

Great.

Before he had a chance to step away to investigate, the chalk he’d previously been holding was taken out of his palm. He blinked, whipping his head around to see Viktor, reaching up towards the equation on the board with the same piece of chalk.

“You scared me,” Jayce breathed out, scowling when all he received as a response was a soft chuckle. “I was doing just fine on my own.”

“You’ve been staring at the same equation for at least an hour now.” Viktor pointed out, stepping up to the board. He leaned heavily against his crutch as he stretched one arm up, scribbling some numbers into the margins of Jayce’s notes.

“That’s… not true.” It was, in fact, entirely true.

“Right.” Viktor said, his tone indicating that he didn’t believe Jayce in the slightest, and rightly so. “You’ve missed this.”

Jayce watched, his expression a combination of intrigue and exasperation as Viktor worked the problem on the board with ease. Damn him for solving it so effortlessly – Jayce had been working at that all morning.

“Thank you.” Jayce muttered as Viktor handed the chalk back to him. The faint note of bitterness in his voice was undeniable, but that wasn’t to say he wasn’t grateful.

Viktor chuckled again, and Jayce caught him rolling his eyes fondly as he turned back around. The action might have been endearing, had it not been so trying of Jayce’s quickly-diminishing patience.

The feeling of a warm hand on his shoulder caught his attention, and when he turned his head, the fluorescent lights of the classroom were blinding. Suddenly, he was no longer in the lab nor surrounded by the presence of Viktor that he’d come to find so comforting. Caitlyn sat next to him, her hand resting on his shoulder and a quizzical furrow to her brow.

“Hey. Earth to Jayce.”

He shook his head as if to reset his mind, pushing her hand off of his shoulder. Nearly everyone had already left the room, and those that hadn’t were in the process of packing up their things. He followed suit with a sigh, ignoring Caitlyn’s concerned expression.

“I’m fine,” he assured her before she could interrogate him about what had just happened, “just tired. Do you still want to go to the coffee shop to get some studying done?”

“Only if you feel up to it.” She said as she stood, slinging her backpack over her shoulder. It wasn’t hard to tell that she was clearly still worried about him, but he preferred to ignore the look on her face. It wasn’t like he could open up about why he’d been so distracted lately. That would make him look weird at best, and like a creep at worst.

“I do.”

His words seemed to appease Caitlyn enough for the moment, as she grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the classroom. The conversation was rather one-sided as they walked to the café; Caitlyn was chattering away about something that Jayce, admittedly, wasn’t paying much mind to. He hummed every few moments, occasionally offering an “uh-huh,” though his focus was somewhere else entirely.

He finally managed to pull himself out of his cluttered thoughts when they approached the counter of the café. Caitlyn ordered tea for herself and Jayce asked for a latte, insisting that Caitlyn let him pay for their drinks – he supposed it was his way of apologizing for not being all there recently. Jayce’s studying would have gone off without a hitch had it not been for the unshakeable feeling that someone was staring at him. Every time he looked up from his laptop and subtly peered around the shop, nobody was even looking in his direction. Only one person was in his line of sight, anyways, and they had their head down as they stared intently at their laptop screen. All he could see was their head of dark, shaggy hair, yet even that sight was somehow familiar to him. He just couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

Caitlyn cast a few sidelong glances at him, clearly still not convinced he was completely fine, but thankfully, she didn’t say a word about it. The two were able to get plenty of work done, and eventually, they settled into a relaxed conversation. Jayce found it relieving to have his mind on something other than his daydreams for the first time in what felt like weeks.

Moments before Caitlyn prepared to leave for her next class, the bell above the door chimed to announce someone’s arrival. Jayce instinctively lifted his head to see who had entered, and though he didn’t recognize them, his gaze settled onto someone entirely different instead.

The dark head of hair that he’d noticed earlier was Viktor. Viktor.

Jayce couldn’t bring himself to take his eyes off the other man, even as Viktor broke their eye contact. No wonder that unkempt messy bun had caught his attention so easily; he’d been seeing it in his mind’s eye on a near-daily basis.

He only forced himself to look away when Caitlyn said goodbye to him, and he managed a half-hearted wave in return. When he turned his head back towards Viktor – a little more subtly this time – the man was packing up his things as well.

Jayce took in a deep breath and let it out as he turned his gaze out the window, though there was no way Viktor hadn’t noticed his blatant staring.
