“My chains are too heavy
And my pants are too tight
One rock ‘n’ roll too many
Takes it’s toll out of you”
As we prepare to say goodbye to the original Wembley cast this Sunday, I can’t even begin to express how much Starlight Express has impacted my life for the better. I can’t wait to see what all of these talented actors do next ❤️ For the new cast, welcome!

Something something Starlight Express. I’ve had trains and Star Wars on the brain thanks to May the 4th and I’m enjoying the concept of CT-82 “Hydra” and Jedi Knight McCoy a bit too much

(Selfishly presses the button that says ‘cuteness’ like a call bell on a plane) uh ma’am may I humbly request a glass of your finest Blaze and their dads moments if you will 😔
- @itsnotamatterofif (cursed tumblr not telling me send asks from a side blog)
EENY small Blaze skating lessons under the cut. 🫵 get fucking cutenessed.
Askbox is open for rqs!
“I just don’t think she’s ready.”
Rusty had paused halfway through the process of lowering the trainlet to her wheels, his hands tucked under her tiny arms. Clearly irritated, Blazing Dawn kicked her feet violently, trying to wiggle free.
“Daddy,” she squeaked. “Lemme down!”
“She sure sounds ready.”
Across their little training course, Hydra was sitting cross-legged, grinning up at her. They’d marked out a small, straight track in chalk, just a tad too long for them to reach out and join hands across it. That way, Blaze would never be too far away for one of them to snatch up out of falling.
Hydra had been adamant that she needed to fall, because that was part of learning. Rusty wasn’t sure he believed that. Admittedly, a lot of his earliest memories did involve slipping off his skates and wobbling back upright, but it was different when it was your baby. Toddler. Nearly three now, stars above, where had the time gone?
“Daddy,” Said baby whined. “I do it!”
“C’mon, Rus, let her have a go,” Hydra said. “She’s got all her safety gear on, she’s all protected, int she?”
The last bit was directed at Blaze, prompting even more flailing as she tried to nod with her whole body. She’d only had her little wheels for a few months now, and just about done enough stomping around to firm them up for a go at proper rolling— most of what she’d managed so far was tipping over inside the shed and grabbing the nearest object, which wasn’t always a good plan. She could shuffle along semi-successfully with someone holding her hand, but that was all. The pads at every joint and the big, bobblehead-looking helmet offered a little reassurance, but not much.
Extremely reluctantly, Rusty set her down on her feet. The trainlet strained against his hold, puffs of steam escaping her mouth as she chuffed with the effort. The moment he let go, she pitched forward, tumbling right over her tiny toe stops and ending up splayed face-down on the ground.
Rusty’s fire guttered as he held his breath. Don’t scare her, he told himself; if he panicked she’d panic, and then she’d cry in that sad scared way that ripped his heart out to hear.
No tears, this time, though. Instead, a teeny little “oops!” before she started wiggling, trying to get upright.
“Remember what we showed you, sweetie?” Rusty asked. “How to get up?”
“Uh-huh!” Blaze said, very much not doing that. She straightened her legs instead, pushing up with her arms as if she were about to try a handstand. Predictably, she fell backward as she stood, arms pinwheeling as she slipped off her heels and into Rusty’s lap, giggling all the while.
“Hi, daddy!” she said.
“Hi, baby.” Rusty scooped her up and righted her again. “Wanna try again? Can you try to skate to papa?”
The little engine nodded, and tottered, determined, in Hydra’s direction. The motion was off, shuffley little walking-steps rather than stroking. If she kept on like that, she would—
Over the toe stops again, bonking down helmet-first. Rusty winced, but she just popped back up, perfectly happy.
“Can you push with your feet like we showed you?” Hydra said, beaming at her efforts. He mimed with his hands. “Push, push!”
“Push, push!” their child echoed, wobbling precariously as she tried to do exactly that.
This time she went over sideways, one elbow pad clacking off the concrete when she shoved herself over her left foot with the sheer amount of force put into her right.
“Bit too much push, I think,” Hydra said, sagely. “It’s alright, just means you’re real strong, like daddy!”
At that, he looked up over her head, shot Rusty a cheeky smile.
“Yea,” Blaze agreed, wobbling back to her feet. “‘M strong!”
Rusty couldn’t keep the smile off his face as she managed her first proper strokes, slowly crossing the distance between her parents. He couldn’t stop watching Hydra watching her— the sheer softness in his husband's eyes as their little miracle teetered towards him. Hydra was always a ball of energy, fingers tapping, shifting where they sat—  but now he was still. Focused.
There was so much of him in Blazing Dawn. From her stubborn optimism to the locks of green in her choppy curls to the way her eyes scrunched nearly-shut when she smiled. She reflected both of them, truly, but the best of her had come from Hydra. Sometimes Rusty would watch her laugh the way he laughed, stick her tongue out the way he did when he was concentrating, and be completely swept under by a surge of adoration for them both.
Finally, she made it, one last weighed-down push before she toppled joyously into Hydra’s arms.
“I did it!” She screeched, sounding off in her wispy little two-tone trainlet whistle “Woo woo! Daddy, d’you see?”
“I did!” Rusty clapped for her, whistled back, pride glowing warmer than his fire did. “Woo woo! Good job, baby, you’re learning so fast!”
She was learning fast. Scarily fast. It occurred to him that this meant she’d be on the rails on her own soon, not needing one of them to carry her any more. It seemed impossible—  it seemed like only days since she’d been small enough to hold in the crook of one arm, and now here she was, all done crawling and creeping and walking, skating around like a grown-up train. It was more than a bit bittersweet.
“Can you skate back to daddy?” Hydra prompted. Blaze nodded, scrambled back to her feet. Rusty held out his arms for her, caught the moment when Hydra reached up to wipe at misty eyes. Smiled back, almost overwhelmed.
She really was a miracle. The best of them both, the future of steam stumbling toward him with her little arms out to her sides and her hydrogen-combustion core chugging away in her chest. First of a kind, first of her line, quite possibly the best thing to happen to Hydrail since its inception, even with dirt in her chocolate-coloured curls and scuffed-up hand-me-down padding on her elbows and knees. But she was more than that. Something better.
She closed the gap, flinging her small, solid body into Rusty’s chest, driving both herself and the point home. He scooped her into a hug, cheering and whistling and peppering her with kisses as she flung her arms in the air, whooping gleefully and narrowly avoiding punching him in the nose.
Blaze was a vision of the future, a miracle of engineering, a new start for steam on the rails. But more importantly than that, she was theirs to love.

Being a fan of Electra and their components is just asking yourself the question "Which one am I giving a sad backstory?" And the answer is normally all of them.

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.
I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.
If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.
And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

It's been a hot minute but I never stop drawing centaurs so have some scrappy centaurs!
I think centaurs would love wrestling and shoving as a form of fooling around and social bonding as well as just communication also it's fun to draw, good interaction practice!
