I binge read all the way to chapter 9 of Smooth Operator in the span of a 12 hour car ride and this genuinely might be the best submas fic I've ever read. And I've read a lot of em NSNSNNSS.

I'm saving reading the rest of Scenic Our House for a rainy day when my undertale hyperfixation decides to come back and kidnap me so in the meantime I figured "why not read Smooth Operator." Best decision I could have made, I was literally grinning like a fool the whole ride.

Hey! I just wanted to say holy fart I finished smooth operator and you’ve inspired me to finally start working on my own ingo and (totally not self insert) fic. Your writing was fantastic like jfc and it lifted my spirits through my finals

Do you have any tips for a beginner fanfic writer though? Like what gets you inspired and how do you stay focused on editing and such

But all in all i really enjoyed smooth operator, the character felt like my fiery spirit and it was just healing :) so thank you

hello anon! i’m so happy to hear you enjoyed smooth operator 🧡 i hope your finals went well for you, and thank you for sending me this kind ask!

i’m not sure if i’ll be very eloquent with advice given that i’m self taught, so i’ll share what i do when i’m writing!

1. i read as much as i write. reading teaches me not only the craft of storytelling, but also what i enjoy—whether that be a writing style, genre, or turn of phrase!

2. i think about writing my daily life and wonder how i would write it. this is an odd one. sometimes when i experience something i think, ‘how would i write this?’ or, ‘how would i describe this?’ those moments become inspiration i can pull on later. thinking about writing in my daily life lets my experiences uplift and inspire me. this, alongside reading the works/experiences of others, helps me experiment and create.

2. i try not to edit while i’m actively writing. i often want to backtrack to edit my work while i’m writing it..this ultimately costs me more time and exhausts me. so my rough drafts are always Rough. i only edit once i’ve gotten all my thoughts on the page.

3. i never delete my scrapped work. i have hundreds upon hundreds of pages of scrapped writing. fics i never finished, paragraphs i cut out and never reused, scenes that never went anywhere—that sort of thing. unused work is useful to me. i could end up reusing it in a different way, or it can even become a launchpad for something new :D

4. i write what i enjoy. i once read that i should never be writing for the audience. i should write for me—that means writing whatever i want, whenever i want, however i want. i think this is my favorite piece of writing advice that i’ve ever seen.

along that note, i always try to make sure i’m having fun! writing a fan work should not feel like a chore. it may be challenging at times, but if i’m feel utterly miserable, it may be a sign for me to step away for a moment.

if i’m having trouble continuing or starting to write, i find a scene i really, really want to write. it can be anything—even something i don’t think i’ll ever incorporate into a published work. i find that scene, that blurb, or that strand of dialogue, and write it. the more self-indulgent the better! starting something can be the hardest part, so just getting a few words down is a cause for celebration :D

i rambled on a bit..i hope this was somewhat helpful. in the end, writing styles & techniques include a lot of trial and error, so everyone finds a method that works for them. i wish you the best of luck!

hello!!! hi!!!!! i recently found two of your fics and god. i’m deranged. unusual haunts almost made me cry, which is like. the me equivalent of bawling someone’s eyes out lol. the way you write emmet and reader so tender. holding them gently in my hands

eterna. i have Thoughts about eterna. i love volo hes such a freak (affectionate) and. yesssss your backstory for him like. i’ll never see time looped characters as anything other than sympathetic, even if they were fucked up before the looping started, but. i love his backstory, i love his descent, i love him manipulating emmet into going to sinnoh, wonder what his plan is with that lol. hikari and ingo make me insane that just a guy and his daughter!!! and i don’t think i’ve personally read any fics where hikari was an idol and not gunning for champion. and god the way emmet and cynthia’s grief are portrayed. i love it. i love it!! i love how much personality you give all of the pokémon, i love how you mix up all of the canon relationships to make them feel realer (i don’t think that’s a word) and more affectionate i love them i love this fic if i reread it i’m sure i’ll have more thoughts but right now i’m looking at your other fics lol

Hello! Reread your Undertale work with Snowy again recently and it made me Feel Things. It was cold, it was wet, and I had tea and an amazing story, and yes, I did end up having a good cry too. I’ve stumbled across your fics a few times in the past couple years during times of Pokémon Fandom obsession. Most notably, Smooth Operator. Most the time I’ve rediscovered it, I’ve read it up to the most recent bit (I think the last update I saw before I found this again was chapter four? Ish?), loved it, quietly yearned for more, daydreamed, and moved on.

Just today I found a commission depicting a verrrrry familiar setup. Elevator operator. Charjabug on shoulder. Submas. I revisited the fic.
