A long-delayed commission for the kind and extremely patient @branloaf. It's Margaret Tudor, taken from this contemporary sketch here, from the Recueil d'Arras.

UPDATE 2: I reached my goal!!!!
Thank you, everyone for spreading the word and donating. I don't know most of the people who donated, so if you're reading this, please accept my gratitude!
This has been stressful but thanks to people who shared and donated the crisis is averted.
Help me pay August rent
I was away for long because of Real Life stuff. I hate for this to be my comeback, but I really need help.
My bank account is drained and I need about 400 US dollars /500 CAD to be able to afford rent. I have about a week to collect it. Please donate if you have something to spare or reblog to spread the word. It would mean a lot!

UPDATE! I managed to secure a Temporary Rent Assistance, which is 200 CAD!
So now I only need about 300 CAD, or 200 USA dollars.
I edited the fundraiser to reflect this.
Thank you @jefflion and @suburbanbeatnik for donating and everyone else who shared this.
Please share if you can, it means a lot!

The point of getting rid of the death penalty isn’t that there are some innocent people on it. The point of prison abolition isn’t that there are some innocent people in prison.
The point is that the state shouldn’t have the power to kill people. The point is that the prison system commits systemic abuses of human rights, doesn’t reduce crime, is deeply racist, and doesn’t take the desires of the victims into account. To argue about whether one individual on death row or with a life sentence is innocent or guilty is just a distraction from the central issues, which is that these institutions are unjust and should not exist

worst type of villain is ‘person who holds a fairly reasonable ideology that makes sense in context, but then a bunch of bafflingly evil stuff is added onto it in an obvious attempt to demonize that ideology’

Photo Album: Zalipie, Poland
■ Zalipie is a small ancient village in South-Eastern Poland. It is definitely one of the country’s top tourist attractions. Not because it has five-stars hotels or massive glass buildings, but on the contrary, due to its small wooden cottages, which are painted in the most vibrant colors.

Movie director: what if instead of casting 20-30 year olds to play teenagers in movies, causing actual teens to feel inadequate in their bodies because they don’t look at all like a fully grown adult with toned abs or big boobs, we cast actual teenagers?
Hollywood: like. Having underage teenagers? Actual fifteen-sixteen year olds to play fifteen-sixteen year olds?
Director: yeah?
Hollywood: But… filming underage people emulating sex is illegal or something. We wouldn’t be able to make the near-explicit sex scenes.
Director: well um. Maybe we could make a teen movie without near-explicit sex scenes? Maybe one about coming of age experiences such as first parties, first kisses, connecting with a best friend, doing stupid shit just because a friend bet you couldn’t… y’know, teenage stuff.
Hollywood, sweating bullets: what the fuck are you talking about?????

after the huge amazing response I got from my ace!Jiang Cheng comic - all of the ace people saying how amazing it felt to be acknowledged, and all of the people who came to me saying that they hadn’t realised they were ace until they read the comic - I decided I wanted to make something for ace awareness week. it’s not quite as pretty or feelsy as the other comic, but there are so many people even within the LGBT+ community who just… genuinely do not understand asexuality, I figured even something basic would help :)
happy ace awareness week! please remember: everyone’s experience with sexuality is different! be kind and support each other!

anyway most writing advice is frequently contradictory to other writing advice you might receive from people who have just as much/more writing ~expertise~ and a lot of writing advice is just flat-out terrible even if it’s coming from an ~expert~ so if you’re a writer consider this post a reminder that
writing advice that comes up on your dash should be looked at as tips you can choose to follow or discard as it suits you, not hardline rules you MUST abide by or else you’re a ‘bad writer’
you’re allowed to look at a piece of writing advice and say, “wow, that’s a shit idea and i don’t want write like that” and forget about it – even if the post has thousands of notes full of other people agreeing with it
there is no One True Right Way to write, your writing does not have to be just like everyone else’s – if all stories were written the same way and with the same style, reading would be a much more boring thing to do
if you try to write in a way that pleases everyone, you will fail because pleasing everyone is not possible – your own satisfaction with your work, your own desire to write a story, and your own enjoyment of writing are more important than that

In many cultures, ethnic groups, and nations around the world, hair is considered a source of power and prestige. African people brought these traditions and beliefs to the Americas and passed them down through the generations.
In my mother’s family (Black Americans from rural South Carolina) the women don’t cut their hair off unless absolutely necessary (i.e damage or routine trimming). Long hair is considered a symbol of beauty and power; my mother often told me that our hair holds our strength and power. Though my mother’s family has been American born for several generations, it is fascinating to see the beliefs and traditions of our African ancestors passed down. We are emotionally and spiritually attached to our hair, cutting it only with the knowledge that we are starting completely clean and removing stagnant energy.
Couple this with the forced removal and covering of our hair from the times of slavery and onward, and you can see why so many Black women and men alike take such pride and care in their natural hair and love to adorn our heads with wigs, weaves, braids, twists, accessories, and sharp designs.
Hair is not just hair in African diaspora cultures, and this is why the appropriation and stigma surrounding our hair is so harmful.
