This makes me so happy, you don’t even know how much [cry emoji]. I worked so hard on that story. It was my shrieking baby child. And I am so glad you enjoyed every bit of it.
I love when you find an author who just has a good flavor to their writing. It could be the way they handle characters, the way they use certain tropes or themes, even the specific lilt of their words. Its familiar and comforting and carries across different stories, like coming back to a place of comfort and recognizing the furniture.

So... I found this and now it keeps coming to mind. You hear about "life-changing writing advice" all the time and usually its really not—but honestly this is it man.
I'm going to try it.

hey so uhhhhh just a heads up: ao3 may or may not be in deep legal trouble. specifically for mistreatment of volunteers and lax compliance with certain laws, afaict.
i highly recommend you back up any stories you have and any favorite stories/authors you'd miss.
here's how i'm doing it:
download calibre. it's an open source ebook reader. link here.
it has a plugin called fanficfare. download that here.
open calibre and go to the dropdown next to "Settings", and then select "Get plugins to enhance calibre"
Find and install FanFicFare (sort by title and scroll down to F to find it easier)
go to the dropdown menu next to the fanficfare icon in the top bar and select "Get story URLs from Web Page"
when prompted for a URL, you can post any URL that displays a list of stories, e.g. "https://archiveofourown.org/users/[username]/bookmarks?page=7" or "https://archiveofourown.org/series/[number]" or "https://archiveofourown.org/users/[username]/pseuds/[username]/works"
click "Yes", then wait for it to gather the metadata and download the stories (you can give it another URL to grab stories from once it's done with gathering the metadata if you want)
it will give you a little popup in the lower right corner once it's done, telling you how many it was able to download (usually all of them) and how many it didn't.
if it misses one or two, you can click to see the details and find out which one didn't get downloaded, and go back to the page you got it from and download those yourself if you want.
tell it to update your library.
voila! all the stories on that page are now backed up on your computer.
notes: it will skip any fics that are locked to archive users only (the ones with a blue padlock next to the author's name in the listing), and you'll have to go back and grab those yourself. if your whole account is under archive lock, i highly recommend unlocking it for the duration of the time it takes to grab and download them (a few minutes to a few hours, depending on whether you have <20 or multiple hundreds like i do lol) before locking them again.
back up everything you love!! back up everything you moderately like!! back up anything you wouldn't like to lose!! even if the ao3 mess pans out to nothing, it's always good to have a "just in case".

I think it’s time for a refresher about what a “trickster” is and what makes a character or deity one.
A trickster is a boundary-crosser; an entity who highlights the rules and conventions of society by calling them into question, usually with their actions, and usually by breaking said rules and conventions. This helps us assess why these rules are in place and if they even serve us.
Because of this, tricksters tend to be transgressive and subversive. Sometimes this can be very delightful and other times can be very uncomfortable, even repulsive.
“Trickster” is a function, not a personality type. Sure, many tricksters are cocky and possess a devil-may-care attitude, but so do other beings who aren’t tricksters, and there are many tricksters out there that don’t have these personality traits.
Tricksters don’t exclusively deal with absolutes. Everything they do changes depending on the situation they’re dealing with and the goal they’re trying to achieve. And unfortunately, this is what many people seem to misunderstand.
For example, I often see people say, “Tricksters are never trustworthy,” or, “Tricksters always have ulterior motivations,” when the truth is that tricksters are situationally trustworthy, and tricksters situationally have ulterior motivations.
Tricksters are capable of being selfish or selfless, helpful or harmful, constructive or destructive, kind or cruel, etc. all depending on what it is they’re trying to achieve. We may not always know what they’ll choose because they’re operating at a higher level of meta than we are.
This is the nature you’re dealing with when dealing with a trickster. They’re not “secretly a villain” or actually an “unconventional and misunderstood hero.” They’re a trickster, and that moral gray is what you’re going to get when dealing with them.

So here’s what I would like you to do. I would like you to (a) reblog this, and in the tags guess the context, or (b) guess the context in the comments. I just want to see what you think this is connected to before I tell you under the cut. Doesn’t matter how. Just be specific.
Done? Okay. Well if you guessed that this immediately preceded a recipe for chocolate ice cream, and that the text began and ended with no explanation or transition, you are correct.

They are all like this.

What recipe did this text precede? Homemade fries and ketchup.
I’m not making fun of this, by the way. A lot of food blog posts are silly, or include weirdly perfect depictions of some suburban housewife’s daily life. I don’t know what this is. I don’t know why this is.
This is from the About page:

This person’s aura is strong enough to level cities.

Hi, if you are writing fanfiction and you include elements of someone else’s fanfiction that are explicitly derivative, you need to give that author credit AFTER reaching out to them first. Yesterday I clicked on a fic at the top of the now-merged Top Gun tag on ao3 (😭) and in the entire first chapter it lifted five very specific plot points/tropes from Marrying the Hangman. I got no communication about this beforehand. It was even written as a what-if to my story, which is another layer of not-okay in terms of not asking first. Also? They didn’t comment on a single Hangman chapter. Insult to injury. Just crediting is not enough, either. If you are going to lift shit wholesale from someone else’s hard work (I did weeks of research) you need to REACH OUT first. I’m not Paramount. You can’t just write fanfiction of my fanfiction without permission. It’s not the same.
People new to writing fanfiction: for the love of god, behave.

I don’t know how to explain to some discourse damaged people on the unholy trinity of social-media-websites-whose-names-start-with-a-T that romantic subplots in non romance media are not put there with the sole purpose of giving the audience the warm fuzzies; that, like any other element in a story, a romantic subplot should serve the themes and central thesis statement of its larger narrative; and that sometimes the most adequate choice of a pairing or approach to romance for a given story is not necessarily the one you personally think would be the cutest / healthiest / most progressive
