hii kay, weekend's here finally for which I was saving your fic & holy shit it was so worth it!!!! i loveee how you write both PoVs but especially Pat's, there’s such a dire lack of him in RPF discussions lol.

also you're so right about Virat being harder to write lol I have such a hard time writing him as well (it doesn't help that I suck at writing anyway I suppose). I think part of the problem (for me at least) is that he's been in public scrutiny of an absolutely absurd intensity for so long & we're seen him grow, seen so many facets of him that our perception of him is very well rounded & makes him a character with an internality very complex and challenging to write. Which is not to say that others, like say, Pat aren't also complex people, but just that i haven't seen so much of most cricketers for my perception of them to be as complex.

i started off writing from virat's pov at first but then like you mentioned, there's just so much of him that has not just been said but in fact over-analyzed at this stage, that i decided to sort of go back-and-forth with their povs instead. and while writing i then realised that pre-captaincy cummins is still such a hidden gem so might as well exploit that unknown, for the lack of a better word!!

(and i refuse to believe your writing is anything close to sucking omg i would love to read what you have created!)

the ideal version of this would be a poly ship to emerge out of rcb's 2025 campaign. bhuvi and hoff partnering up together because they realised they share an ultimate goal of keeping virat happy. and in order to do so, they had to form a bond between themselves too, so that virat can learn to blindly trust the two fast bowlers of the team... Omg yes. I fucking hate the homophobic and feminine jokes people make about Shubman. Like that is a man comfortable in his masculinity more than any of those incel idiots making stupid jokes. Even hate opening Twitter as it is the worst there.

I am not a saint I troll him too but more for his performance on the field and all. But going after someone's appearance or voice or whatever is such a low man. Especially the voice. Hate when people make fun of his voice.

i think coming into this series, there was definitely a lot of valid criticism (and mostly concern) about shubman gill's pick for captaincy (his overseas records mostly) - and i don't mind those. i even believe a player needs to hear those to grow.

but these people were making fun of his voice from a clip nearly more than half a decade ago btw where he was only around 18-19 as well! he was definitely still going through a lot of physical changes then and i hate how hypocritical people are because the same indians that praise patty's clean shaven look then go on to trolling gill for making the same choice??? and when all else failed they constantly talk about shubman and ishan and not in a positive or endearing way like we do here. the shubman gill hate train has gotten too mainstream and incel-esque it genuinely makes me ill to watch!

i want him to do exceptionally well both as a batter and as a captain to silence those trolls, if nothing else.

and for all it's worth i adore his voice now actually - people again have no problem calling jos buttler's voice soft and soothing but somehow always have a problem with the way gill even breathes lmfao give me a break!!!

i could easily make this about pride month and cricket yaoi (which i will later on, don't worry) but on all notes serious, i want to really appreciate the softness that shubman gill as a leader and friend has brought to the indian cricket side (and to gujarat titans). i love seeing a man so comfortable with his masculinity that he doesn't shy away from showing affection to his friends and teammates. 💝
