Bit different from my headcanons, but I am currently watching Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and now knowing that Sid and Bruno Madrigal are both voiced by John Leguizamo makes it so much better.
Like do you know how many good memes I could make if I had the skills?
Sid&baby t-rexs = Bruno&rat babies
It all adds up and I love it 😭

Baby gifts
Okay but Pepa always had sniffles from being in the rain for too long. Whether she was sad, feeling emotional, or just wanted to dance in the rain, Pepa’s clothes were normally soaked by the end of the day.
Her whole family would tell her to put on dry clothes before she caught a cold but she would argue back that they were just going to get wet all over again.
So Julieta began carrying around food especially for Pepa to prevent her sneezes from shocking the village. This also lead to Pepa developing a very strong immune system against any cold like symptoms that she passed down to her children. (Camilo would lay in the rain with Mirabel for ages because they both liked it, and though Mirabel would normally become ill afterwards, Camilo would be bouncing around like nothing had happened. Antonio also needed a strong immune system as he spent a lot of time in his room which was damp at the best of times)

Alma Madrigal
This is exciting.
So, I know that Abuela Alma doesn’t have a gift, but I was reading
And it had an idea that I am in love with. Alma can control the powers of her family. In the fic above, she burns Mirabel’s “door” after receiving Bruno’s prophecy saying that she will destroy Casita (this is all before Mirabel turns 5)
I thought, what if she can seal the doors as well? Like, if Pepa was ill/pregnant and unable to control her emotions, Alma could partially seal her door and prevent Pepa’s power being as strong as it normally is. Or if Camilo was in trouble and grounded, she could seal his door to stop him speaking out as someone else.
So, obviously, she would need a way to seal this metaphorical doors. I think that it is done through pictures maybe? Like Alma would have a picture of each child with their door and when she wanted to stop their powers, she would cover the picture with a veil. When they are first born however, Alma can get visions of the door, not fully complete so she doesn’t know what their powers are. And this is how she prevents Mirabel from getting her door.
But yeah, just a bit of dark Alma Madrigal for you. This whole post is a bit messy but let’s ignore that and live life to the fullest!

The Tense Triplets
I’m sure by now everyone has seen the idea of Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno being the three tenses. If you haven’t, I’ll quickly go over it
Past:
Julieta can heal injuries from the past
Present:
Pepa affects the present weather
Future:
Bruno can see prophecies of the future
But any way, I wanted to talk about their ages. Cause I am almost certain that their proper ages are out there somewhere, and I am almost certain that I know what it is. But I don’t really care, cause I disagree with it
Julieta is the oldest. Everyone agrees on that. She gives of such a mum vibes, and she so would of been the one looking out for her siblings. Still, as they are triplets, she wouldn’t be much older and I recon she was actually the most mischievous of the three. Obviously Alma never realised this and thought she was the perfect daughter, but Julie- as her siblings called her- was the master mind behind all their pranks and troubles. She also teased her younger siblings non stop
Bruno was the middle child. I already know that most of you are disagreeing with me. In my eyes, Bruno isn’t the youngest. He feels like he let his family down and I’m sorry, but that seems like an oldest/middle child thing, not a youngest child thing. He was definitely the most mature of the three and looked after Pepa and Julieta all the time. Him and Julie would also totally gang up on Pepa when she became engaged to Félix
So that leaves Pepa as the youngest. I can’t really describe why I think she should be the youngest but I do. As a child she definitely had slight anger issues and found it hard to control her emotions compared to her siblings. She was always babied by her older siblings and would complain loudly but secretly loves it. She got married before Julieta. While she was pregnant, the weather changed more frequently with her mood swings, and she would sometimes be found ankle deep in rain and tears.

How the Madrigal’s deal with their gifts
(and the problems that come with them)
Julieta:
She often finds herself cooking with no memory of when she started or what she is making. She can tell when someone isn’t eating enough and has these strange instincts of what people’s favourite and least favourite foods are. She can also tell if anyone has an allergies
Pepa:
Pepa was already an emotional child, but when she was younger, she would get really worried about losing control of her powers which would lead to her losing control of her emotions. If the weather isn’t caused by her, she is one of those people who can smell rain in the air, and just know when storms are coming.
Bruno:
He became very superstitious and also had OCD tendencies, such as touching a wall to prevent a new prophecy from happening. But, he could always tell when someone was going to ask someone else out and likes watching the people in the village accept their crushes.
Isabela:
She has to sit in the sun a lot, and is always drinking more water than she needs. She can get plant illnesses which she hates. When she was around eight, she caught the tobacco mosaic virus and everyone was really worried as there is no cure. Luckily, by sitting constantly in the sun and eating lots of her mums cooking, she got better but still has a few faded scars from it. Baby Mirabel thought they were so cool
Dolores:
Dolores gets overwhelmed by sound very easily. She has ear buds that she puts in her ears to block the worst of the sound but they aren’t always enough. She hears everything, so she can’t always look people in the eyes for several days at a time if she hears something. Her whole family have learnt basic sign language for days where she doesn’t want to talk
Luisa:
She loves being hugged. Because she is always seen as the strong one, she loves the feeling of someone else being the stronger person who hugs her instead. She also eats high energy foods all the time as she uses so much strength. Her mum always makes something with protein for her.
Camilo:
The only person who eats more than Luisa is Camilo. Because they change form a lot, it takes out a lot of energy. They prefer to sleep with a weighted blanket, as it makes it harder for them to change in their sleep. They obviously use they/them when they are themselves, but otherwise don’t really care what pronouns are used
Mirabel:
Although she doesn’t have a power, she helps the others with theirs a lot
Antonio:
He sometimes forgets that people can’t understand his animals and tries to hold three way conversations. He has a tendency to eat raw food which makes his mother shriek every time. He often finds it hard to sleep at night as the nocturnal half of the rain forest come out

Reasons both
Isabela
And
Luisa
Could be the older sister
Isa:
So, Isabela is obviously the canon older sister and it is shown quite well. In her song, “What else can I do” we see that she worries about not being good enough. She spends a majority or the film being perfect and graceful and even almost gets engaged just because her Abuela thinks it would be a good idea. She doesn’t really get the chance to express herself until her song, focusing on being the perfect daughter. There are so many amazing quotes I could take from her song to prove my point but I feel the best way to understand would just to be listening to it. I am an older sister and a lot of the song relates to me on a personal level which I adore! Isa is such a good representation of an older sister I just want to hug her. Wanting to be something but instead moulding your self to fit the family idea is just something that comes naturally to older siblings I am almost certain.
Luisa:
Now, I feel like people are either really going to agree with me or really disagree with me here, and the main factor will be if they are the oldest sibling or not. I thought Luisa was older when I first watched Encanto. Like, have you heard her song?! That is literally my life as a catchy song! Being strong on the surface but cracking under neath. Pushing yourself past your limit. Being seen as indestructible by your younger siblings. The amount of pressure put on older siblings is insane. The whole “give it to your sister, your sister’s older” makes me just ?!?! That’s me! I relate to this so much! “No mistakes” ?!?! Me!
So while yes, I agree that Isa is a perfect oldest sister, i feel like Luisa has the potential to have been just as good if not better. But still, that’s just my opinion

✨Encanto✨
The lack of clarity on the Madrigal cousin ages really bugs me. I like having everything laid out neatly with cool little links between people. But, Disney didn’t help me there. So I’ve made up a head canon for their ages. Obviously some of it will be canon, but not all of it.
Isabela:
Eldest first. I recon Isa would be the oldest of the cousins as she is mentioned as the golden child countless times. She is the example to her younger siblings and cousins because she is almost literally perfect. There is also that whole thing about how she almost gets engaged just because her Abuela thinks they would be a good match.
Age wise, I’m going with around 23. As the eldest sister, it isn’t unusual to have a 15 year old sister, and also, she almost gets engaged. She can’t be that young. That would put her as 7 when Mirabel was born which sounds right to me in my head.
Dolores:
I was debating whether or not to put her as the oldest, but decided ultimately that while she looks like she is an amazing older sister to Camilo and Antonio, I can’t quite see her being the leader of the cousins while they grew up, but rather the second in command who knows exactly what is happening all the time. Dolores also mentions in a song that she “grew to live in fear of Bruno stuttering and stumbling”. If I remember right, Bruno left when Mirabel was five (correct me if I’m wrong) which means as the second oldest, she would have had time to actually grow to be wary of him.
In the film, I head canon her as around 20. This would still give her a five year gap from Mirabel, meaning she could have grown up with Bruno until she was ten, but also give Isa enough time to be a good influence. When Isa got her gift of gracefulness and general perfection, Dolores would have been 2ish meaning she grew up watching Isa be perfect.
Camilo:
Camilo and Luisa were hard to choose between but I really liked the idea of Dolores and Camilo being closer in age and getting up to mischief together. Obviously they nicknamed each other Lory and Cam and they stuck when their cousins and brother joined them.
Cam can not be any older than 19 in my opinion. He is so laid back (which I’m not saying people in their twenties aren’t) but he also looks so young. I mean, if we went by looks, I would have said Luisa was the oldest. But yeah, I think Camilo was born almost exactly 10 months after Lory was
Luisa:
As I said before, Luisa really could have been the oldest looks wise. I head canon that she didn’t particularly like being the youngest and was thrilled when Mirabel was born because she looked up to how perfect Isa was as a sister and really wanted to be that person to someone else. Pretty much as soon as Luisa hit ten, she started volunteering for jobs and to do all the heavy work because she liked feeling appreciated and was constantly worried that she was in the way or not good enough. (Also, from her song, I would have thought Luisa was the oldest. I’m the oldest of four, and that is how I constantly feel)
Luisa is around 17 but still has a very happy go lucky personality that is sometimes replaced when she is really concentrating on something, but otherwise is like an excitable puppy
Mirabel:
We all know who Mirabel is. I don’t have much I feel like I really need to add other than she she too didn’t like being the youngest and was excited through Pepa’s whole pregnancy.
15, but we all knew that
Antonio:
Can anyone not love him? Isa used to make plants grow into whatever him favourite animal at the time was, and that was actually one of the first times she was able to make more than one plant that wasn’t some sort of pink flower or rose grow. Lory would sneaky into the nursery when she heard him waking and get him out of his cot and take him to play in her room as it could make any sound anyone wanted and had lots of wind chimes and water features. Cam was so happy when he was born because he finally had a brother and danced around the house, constantly changing into different people. Luisa was probably the least close with him as she was already working a lot and didn’t have much time to sit down, but she would let him climb all over her and throw him into the air and basically let him tumble around. Mirabel’s relationship is really nice in the film so I’m not changing that either.
Lil’ baby Antonio is only 5
But yeah, there is the Madrigal cousins as how old I head canon them to be

Here is a head canon/story idea for
✨ Encanto ✨
So, Dolores. Some of the things she said have made me wonder about her character because it doesn’t get explored as much as I would like. In “We don’t talk about Bruno” she says a lot.
So, I’m going to list the most relevant bits to back up my point.
•“Hey, grew to live in fear of Bruno stuttering or stumbling
I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling”
•“He told me that the man of my dreams
Would be just out of reach
Betrothed to another
It's like I hear him, now”
• “It's like I can hear him now, I can hear him now”
• “And I'm fine, and I'm fine, and I'm fine, I'm fine”
Like. That is a lot to unpack. She can hear everything all the time. She could hear Bruno the whole time and probably thought she was mad. Like? Surely she could tell how close the sound was and had to put up with Bruno mumbling to himself in the back of her head.
She is either the eldest or second eldest of the Madrigal cousins (although I doubt there is much in it) which means she would of grown up with Bruno for a fair amount of time.
So, it has to be terrifying for everyone to be saying that he has disappeared while you can still hear him. Plus that she would of been able to hear the adults talking about him.
I feel like the film should of included a scene where Dolores was having a breakdown due to a sensory overload and Mirabel has to help her.
Also, when they all lost their powers, I want her to lose all hearing not just super hearing. That would of been a cool idea to explore
